My truble is knowing wgare the shadeing goes..you are a great artists..hope i can learn this trade ..i been practicing for a few months..n i want to do traditional tattoos n trying to get the 1RL down ...n i love your vids brother n thank you for them
Thanks for posting this awesome video! It would be super helpful if you could include in the description the needle info (what size mag?) and the speed of your machine. I know there’s more than one way from point A to point B, but it would be great to have a general starting point. If I’m using your results as a reference, I have no way to know where I might have gone wrong. Thanks again for putting all this info out there!
This might make more sense in my head than in text, but, how do you know if your whip shading is “deep enough” into the skin to stick. Meaning the part of the whip where it’s lightest (the little dots). Isn’t whip shading putting the mag into the skin and whipping it then out of the skin? Will the ink in the very end of the whipping motion stick into the skin? To me it seems like the very end, as the mag is coming out of the skin, wouldn’t be deep enough to stay? Might be a totally dumb question lol 😆
end goal i want to be a tattoo artist as of now I'm starting to work on my skills with hand drawing I'm always confused on where to shade I get the outline done and idk what to do?
Ive tried this and can confirm it degreases it perfectly. I used a Deodorant stick to use as "stencil stuff" and the stencil went on it so dark and thick 👌
Hey Brandon, first off thanks for making these in depths videos and being so approachable with questions as many in the industry aren't so kind. Anyway I have a couple questions that may or may not have simple answers. First is can I premix my own greywash in large amounts and save it for future sessions? Of course I would use distilled water and new sterile medical grade bottles, but is there a time frame in which I can use the wash? Also what do you think about witch hazel in your wash? I've also heard green soap but that seems a little risky. Thanks again brotha much love from los Angeles ✊💯
I’m have some big problems with making a smooth seamless gradient shade over a large area. I can’t seem to be able to blend separate bits of shading together without making it splotchy… please help. Thank you.
Súper helpful dude! Big thank you. An issue i run into is that the mag marks look to obvious. Is there a way to have a smoother wash or is this simply an aesthetic choice that differs from one artist to another? Thanks again!
im a hobbiest whos only done lemons and fruit and now ive done 4 skins. one of the skins is a demon head oni with color in american traditional and im concerned about color aaplication and shading to fake skins as what if i did the black last then it was wiped into say yello0w or white making it discolored so im considering going dark to light but do you have any tips or videos on doing color shading and application to fake skin?
I still have a hard time understanding artificial light source placement with shading traditional. How do you decide where to place the shading with each different traditional design? Where would the light source be to create the shadow? And how come I see different tattoo artists placing shading sometimes with traditional in areas that don't make sense, as far as a light source is concerned?
look at tons of western traditional flash and copy it. it’s not about realism, it’s about impact. shade to emphasize and block off shapes. try not to overdo the shading, keep things consistent, and simple. don’t worry about what looks realistic.
What does the ink you have in the 3 cups and du you blending it Whit something I’m new to tattooing and I try all you telling us but the there are ink in can you please explains it to me and show what you blended it whit??
The first one is straight black. Middle one is 6 drops of black and the rest distilled water. Third is 3 drops of black and the rest distilled water. Made to help create a smooth fade.
For your stencils you use a stencil printer? I don’t have one so it’s a bit difficult that I do it by hand and my lines aren’t perfect… can you show how you put your stencil on with whatever you use please Boss
Could you do the same thing but on the Amazon fake skin 3 mm it the yellowish color on bc I can't figure out what im doing wrong either that are its just hard skin to work with .iv got box of realfake skin cut off comeing in but for now that all I got is the Amazon ones
You just want the outline printed or drawn and use stencil paper and use a pen to trace it, or buy a stencil printer for perfect lines. Always make a copy of the line work before shading/coloring
Hey! I know I’m 4 months late on this so I won’t be upset if you don’t get to this comment however I’ve been learning how to tattoo for over two weeks now and my biggest problem with traditional shading is having an even flow even when I do the cross hatch. I think the reason might be that I tend to focus on areas that don’t need any attention so I over saturate them. Would love to know what you have to say. Thankyou !
I recommend focusing on practicing in rectangular boxes it’s hard to learn of designs after you get the feeling for the whip method then try on a design also make sure you are using standard needles not bugpin.
Another quick tip people. Shading is an ART and TECHNIQUE. Like I was told a few years back, "if you can do it on paper, it'll be even harder on skin". Cross hatching works wonders (style dependant of course).
my biggest trouble i got is that sometimes, i dont know why, but even what "wash" i use, NOTHING gets into the skin, regardless of how hard i stretch, it's sort of wiard thing that happen 1/100 clients, or sometimes just insanely red and no pigments.
Which needle is that?
Wow thank you. That is WICKED COOL my friend
Do you have any recommendations on machine speed/voltage when shading like this?
My truble is knowing wgare the shadeing goes..you are a great artists..hope i can learn this trade ..i been practicing for a few months..n i want to do traditional tattoos n trying to get the 1RL down ...n i love your vids brother n thank you for them
Thank you! Keep at it!
My biggest problem was using a bugpin… Switch to standard and everything goes smoother.. Great vids

Curious what are you using to clean the skin you're using to practice? Thanks
You can use your glide to clean the fake skins, but baby oil works really well too!
Thank you for what your doing I’m a new on this I invested on everything I need $$$$ I’m going serious on tattooing and your helping me a lot
which mag where you using in this tutorial?
Do you have to use different machines for shading vs lining when it comes to pen style machines? Or would you just change the voltage and depth?
Exactly what I was going to ask
I agree with pizza sometimes I don’t know how far I need to transition outward on some designs that I draw up with
What ink for shading ? I orderd trippel black from dynamic (beginner)
end goal i want to be a tattoo artist as of now I'm starting to work on my skills with hand drawing I'm always confused on where to shade I get the outline done and idk what to do?
Can I drop color on top of this ?
Hi! That’s CNC P6 machine ?
I am having trouble packing color after I've put shading in could you do a video about packing and shading in one
you should try dishwashing detergent it works better to clean the mat
Ive tried this and can confirm it degreases it perfectly. I used a Deodorant stick to use as "stencil stuff" and the stencil went on it so dark and thick 👌
What voltage do you tend to use for your shading?
Do you find a difference with using the smooth side of the reelskin vs the rougher side?
Hi, do you actually put water into the six and three drops black ink cup?
Distilled water.
Hey man what kinda needle are you using and what’s your speed at?
what are these practice skins called? the link says it’s no longer active
What Liner did you use and shader?
Hello. May I know what's the voltage count and the needle used into it?
Hey I lost the link to your tattoo class/program online! Are you able to send it

I’m have some big problems with making a smooth seamless gradient shade over a large area.
I can’t seem to be able to blend separate bits of shading together without making it splotchy… please help. Thank you.
Did you switch needles when you went from black to Grey wash or was it the same needle?
Same needles
Súper helpful dude! Big thank you. An issue i run into is that the mag marks look to obvious. Is there a way to have a smoother wash or is this simply an aesthetic choice that differs from one artist to another? Thanks again!
Доброго здравия!!!Респект!!!
Can I ask waht brand of artificial skin you use in the video?
Reel skins but you can also buy our brand of practice skins here learn.tattooing101.com/practice-skin-orderform
What voltage are you running your machine at when shading?🙋🏽♂️
I'm wondering what brand of practice skins you think are the best. I've had some that were just horrible to do any work on
I have just ordered some reelskins and they are really good but white expensive

Same thing for me also I tend to want to over shade a piece hard to know where a subjective "line" is.

I really wanna know a guide for getting stencil stuff like getting flash art from a wall into stencil etc
If anyone can help will be really appreciated
You just want the outline printed or drawn and use stencil paper and use a pen to trace it, or buy a stencil printer for perfect lines. Always make a copy of the line work before shading/coloring
Hi dear.thanks for wonderful teaching.l decided to start tattoo and follow your lesson .l want ask you hom much in shadow we should press needle
Having trouble with the tattoo healing and the solid black wanting to peel off
Ink falling off? What brand of inks are you using
Hey, what stencil paper do you recommend?
Spirit is the best
Ketika dengar mesin tatto nya, langsung ingin bikin tatto lagi yg baru ❤️👍😂
Man your good I’m trying to soak up you’re info but how do beginners deal with nerves when it comes to real skin because the fake skin can’t talk lol
Cand somebody help me? When i try to stick my needle to shade the needle get stuck in the fake skin..why😢😢😢
Try applying a thin layer of vaseline on the surface of the fake skins. This will help your needles to glide across and not snag the skin
Shading big areas evenly is challenging

I just started today, I’m not bad but i need some practice. This guy is so fast.
He’s like “you want black, boom, it’s black” lol
My biggest trouble is determining where to put what shade lol
My biggest problem is not being sure where to add shading
