the carriers in the usa and canada are shutting off edge and 3g right? here in brazil, both of those work really well still and way too many people would de affected if there weren't any 2g or 3g networks due to poor cell coverage in the countryside

That specific iPhone 4S was made in August 2014, and iOS 8.0 released on September 17th 2014 which explains why it's running 7.1.2 because that was the latest iOS at the time of manufacturing. It could easily be mistaken for a iPhone 4 though.

i actually used one of these last month!! here in canada, my carrier (Freedom Mobile) still supports 3G. it actually worked with my nano-SIM for a few days until i took it out.

I had a iPhone 4S pretty late on in its life. I believe it shipped with iOS 7.01 or 7.1.1. I kept it for 5 years and by the end I was happy to get rid of it because it was pretty much unusable. Mine was also the 8GB variant :(

I got a white iPhone 4S from my church rummage for $2.00 back in 2018 when I was helping out and I got to buy it early. It was a former church members phone. It came practically brand new in the box and everything!!! 😁📱❤️
I have an iPhone 5s on iOS 7 for $25 with the new wrapping on it! I also have one on iOS 10 with box and wrapping that was also a parts listing that I got for cheap.
You can actually tell if it’s iOS 7 or 8 based on the popup; if it fades out, it’s iOS 8, if it zooms out it’s iOS 7.

This reminded me of when I had to have my iPhone 4S (though a 32 GB configuration rather than 8 GB) replaced for having a jammed in power button. They had a box like that but took it out before handing it to me, though to be fair that replacement was handled by a service provider because it was before Apple themselves handled service for iPhone and iPad models purchased on contracts from service providers in Singapore.

Interesting. The service provider did have the same configuration I had (black, 32 GB) as an AppleCare replacement, so I didn't end up with a white phone.
I have the white 16 gigabyte iPhone 4s. And it can update to iOS 9.3.6. And it works great for me. I got it from a store called game stop when I was 6 years old back in 2013
So that’s why the iPhone 4 I found had a bunch of EB GameStop apps.

I have an AppleCare replacement iPhone 5 also on iOS 7.1.2 produced just a few days after iOS 8.0 came out.
Interesting that the remanufactured iPhone 4/4S do not have a polished chamfer (the edge where ethe stainless steel band meets the plastic bezel surrounding the glass front/back). At 5:00 you can see the difference in shininess.
Never had a 4S but had a 4 in white and another 4 in black. Lowkey miss having it

I’ve managed to get my iOS 9.3.6 white 8GB iPhone 4S down to iOS 6.1.3 completely untethered by jailbreaking. I can then re flash the software without any jailbreaks. It’s really fast but ridiculously out of date. iOS 6 will always be special to me as I had an iPod touch when I was 13 (in 2013) that ran iOS 6.
I’ve now got an iPhone SE 2nd gen and an iPhone 14 Pro Max both running iOS 17, and a 5th gen M1 iPad Air which is also on iPadOS 17.
BUT not if its an 8Gb same with iPhone 4 8Gb.
Yes it allows some headroom and is awesome. BUT I think this thing will never be able to see iOS 5 or iOS 6 on it. And you wont go to 8/9 anyway so I would keep it this way and have the corresponging oem baseband to it aswell.
@@TheOfficialDuBsTeC the iPhone 4 8gb 2012 variant has differences on the mobo and thats why it not only doesnt support the cherryfl0wer exploit as also it cant run ios’es older than 6. althought the 8gb was only sold running ios 7 and 8, i dont think they have mobo differences to not be able to run. i just dont try to downgrade mine cause it is running ios 8 and i alredy have everything working there, but as @lukeweeks3470 said, it should work

Ha! I could tell its 7 cause it was purchsed in 10/14 which just released iOS 8 a month earlier.
Usually that takes Apple longer and Im not sure if Apple EVER preinstalled iOS 8 on the 4S as all the normal boxes ended with iOS 7 so I guess they stopped actually installing 7.1.2 even on all replacements (but thats just a wild guess) as purchased doesnt mean it was build than. iOS 7 is pretty cool on that actually.

i still have one of my personal iphone 4s which used to have a shattered backplate and a battery that has been puff up but after some temporarily fixing it now in a much less worse condition with a brand new back but no battery and bottom screw. I still trying to get it fixed but can’t find any repair shops nearby that still fixing these old devices or repair them for cheap so now i have to leave it the way it is. Maybe if i can’t repair it i might as well just buy a second hand one on the internet since they are pretty cheap nowadays (when i say cheap i meant just enough for me to buy one but still quite expensive)

I'm sure the 8GB version was issued especially for apple care plans so that people didn't feel comfortable using the phone and to make people remember it was a phone to be used temporarily because even back then 2013-2014 the 16GB wasn't enough. I wonder what iPhone's are issued under the apple care plan now?

i dont have siri on my ipod touch 4 but the app store works on ios 6 but to actually install apps u have to jailbreak ios 6 since its really old
@@acuramartenss3783 it just started working on iOS 6 they discontinued it in June. we don't know why it came back. other than that, iOS 7+ works. classic made a great video on it that you should watch.

In the past I owned the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5S but after that I been a Android user ever since. Currently using a Google Pixel 6A which has 128GB of storage and is first time owning a Google Pixel smartphone. Until now for Android smartphones I been using mid range from brand names like TCL, Samsung, Motorola.
I highly believe Apple updates iOS on their devices longer than they should. At some point in the devices lifespan software updates will start to make the device run sluggish as heck. I believe Apple does it cause they know you can't downgrade iOS anymore like you could in the past. They know if they make older devices run sluggish perhaps the user will buy the newer model.
Doesn't matter what Apple does, people will complain. Don't give new updates to older phone? Planned obsolescence. Give new updates to older iPhones? Planned obsolescence. Seeing as you haven't used an iPhone in a while, you should know that newer iPhones have better performance for longer- the latest supported iOS/iPadOS versions tend to run decently well on older devices.
I used the iPhone 4s and iPhone 5s. After that I went the Android way. So yea it's been a while since I had one.
To be honest I found better value for the money in Android. Currently rocking the Pixel 6a just bought it.

who would pay 100 bucks or more for this? No body. The only "rare" thing is to find an unactivated brand new old iPhone on an older iOS. The price tage shouldnt and wouldnt differ cause it wouldnt make sense to pay 100 bucks for something which isnt worth anything objectively.
