*Correction #1:* Iron bar to Steel bar ratio is now 1 to 5 - You need 5 iron bars and one steelfire to get one steel bar.
*Correction #2:* Smelter thralls do *not* make steel cheaper, they only make fuel more efficient and they smelt faster.
*Correction #3:* Before you get into steelfire mass production, I would *highly* suggest you to get an Alchemist II or higher (at least one always spawns in the Black Hand Galleon in the desert). This way you will need only one tar instead of two per steelfire, meaning the thrall will save you a TON of resources in the long run. Brimstone can be easily mined in the Sinner's Refuge (a cave in the desert).

We find farming npcs in Highlands (they have 3-15 steel ingots on them 80% of the time) , a far quicker way of aqquiring steel. A short walk to New asgarth, slaughter the place, and walk back. Presuming you hit the camps on the walk their aswel. 200-300 steel easily solo in 15-20mins. Means all steel fire produced can be used on bombs along with not having to farm and smelt the 1500 iron ingots that you'd need for the 300 steel ingots.
Skin the bodies for hide aswel while your there, and you can make the tar for steel fire and in 1 trip, your covering your explosives and steel farming in 1 go. Can even hit the mammoths right next to it for thick hides aswel if you want to make the most of it from the explosives side.
We smelted steel properly at the start, but get a good broadsword and it's 10x quicker to farm Highlands (if you are near there obviously)
Update : Since the anniversary patch, new asgarth is more populated so you get even more at the moment. 180-210 in new asgarth alone.
Oil is the same burn efficiency as dry wood, I recommend building 5-10 standard fish traps and just put all the fish you catch in a couple of fluid presses. Walla! Oil for days

nerfed fish traps mean fewer to get the job done but with bugs from feed box and plant fiber gathering as bait
TIP: An alternate method for crafting Tar (to tanning hides at 1:20) is using a Liquids Press to extract Tar from Coal. If you're based in an area with ample coal deposits, it can be quite a bit faster than skinning and tanning, and it wont leave you laughably overstocked on leather.
Shhh. Little known tip (can't figure out why everyone forgot this) that lets you pass all those waiting on the bark bottleneck.
Eh... coal is super slow source for tar even with a good deposit nearby. Bark and leather is easily collected during a raid on a thrall camp as bark is a common loot drop and human characters can be skinned with a skinning knife. Extra leather can just be thrown out, no need to hoard everything.
ShadowTani I eventually got fed up with the endlessly repetitive time-wasting drudgery of farming raw matls for construction in CE ... tedious to the point of sadism, IMO. Once it got boring I switched to using the admin control panel to just spawn full stacks of whatever I need. Normally, i dont resort to admin mode in games, but the endgame of CE (SPOILER: unlocking your bracelet permanently deletes your gamesave, character, and everything you've ever constructed) is just so mindbogglingly anticlimactic, unsatisfying, unimaginative and downright abusive to players that I no longer give a damn .... compare and contrast with construction in Skyrim for example, which was moderately enjoyable.

@@pfzht I bailed on CE 3 years ago. Trust me, your time would be much more enjoyably spent on say, Witcher 3 or AC:Odyssey (or Origins).
For hardcore self-motivated survivalists, I found Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey (A:THO) pretty engaging. I have playlists for all the above.
Easier Hardened stell, kill nordheimers at mounds of the dead and new asgarth for steel bars, than farm brimstone at the white lake, way easier than making steelfire

Yeah. Steelfire is best used to make explosives. I think it is not very efficient to get iron, brimstone and tar for steel. Get steel from npcs and if you want hardened steel just get brimstone.
Unless you have an encumbrance build, because that makes mining resources insanely easy, especially with the second rank of survival, which makes nodes break in half the time. I can fill a vault with steel in one day. Meta.

use oil as fuel guys, the best fuel in game. how to obtain easy oils: crush unappetizing fishes (little blue fishes) in Fluid Press and the ratio is 1:1.
That's also similar to the best way to get ichor. Just cook the shrimp. 1:1 on ichor to cooked shrimp.
Slow way is seeds in the fluid press as well
Smelters don't do cost reduction. They only speed up process. And it's 5 iron bars + one steelfire for a steel bar. I'm sure dozen of people told you that already but it's still up here giving false info. *facepalm*

You can also get tar more easily by putting coal through fluid press. Don't need coal for fuel once you get your hands on oil

Only been playing for two weeks, gotta ask. Are these recipes, Steel, hardened steel, bread, glass and so on, in the game or luckily throwing things in a furnace or bench is the only method.
Nice, I've learned a lot. Thanks very much, didn't know that dried wood burns that long. So you basically can throw all your coal into the press and get even more tar. Because honestly, farming bark is a pain in the ass right now and I'd rather put it in the dryer than drown in tons of leather.

A little late, but It looks like he’s wearing a mix of lemurian armors, you get the recipes after you defeat the witch queen.
Title should be how to make steel and harden steel not easy way to make it since theirs only one way... also farming steel from asgard village is easier then making iron into steel since npc's drop 2-10 per kill. But other wise this video is pretty informative on how to make it.👍

It wont be as easy anymore - now for hardened steel instead of relatively easily obtained brimstone, you gonna need Black Ice. So as long as you stay in non-ultra cold enviroment, normal steel stuff is all you get. Not exactly greatest change imho, we already had to venture to closer part of frozen north for Star Metal, and now we have to go even further for lower grade material?
It's one of the stupidest changes they have made to the game. How the hell does ice make steel hard like really wtf were they thinking.
@@Firespark81 Well, Black Ice is supposed to be enchanted with powers of Outer Void, so it could be some sort of alchemy-witchcraft stuff, but I agree it sounds weird (than again, its even weirder to consume such stuff, as its one of the ingredients to Feast of Ymir) Plus the practical side - while brimstone had several locations to be found (desert, jungle and even in north in possession of some thralls), Black Ice is isolated only to the snow biome (second hardest as far as survival conditions go). I mean, sure, only rarely would somebody put their main base in newbie river, but desert, savannah and jungle are often settled by players (me included - I love that tropical aspect of Exiled Lands). And while for "north-dwellers" it would be relatively easy to return back for brimstone, "southerners" will have a very hard time and probably skip entire "hardened steel" tree and go directly to Star metal or better...
You can also make tar by putting coal in a liquid press.

you explained it well but my T3 & T4 thralls only seem to increase the speed of making steel and not decrease as they still need 5 iron bars to make 1 steel,is that a mod?

I was like fuck did i forget the recepi for the harden steel, so i go here and see that i was doing it right then i dont read coments and search youtube be time last week and tadá u need black ice. Each time before closing game i forgot to check it online and was lazy to close the game. :P

When you have a full stomach it increases your overall hp by 10-20% ( cant remember exactly) this makes it look like you lose hp when its actuly going up, you dont lose any the overall bar gets bigger
@2:10 You said 1 steelfire and 2 iron bars... its 5 iron even with a named thrall. Cost reduction only implies to things you can select to craft not auto.

best fuel is oil!!! Better than drywood because you can just harvest full invetory one with like fish 15 traps... No need to farm walk around find wood or coal patches... if your base is near water.
Yes oil can be used as fuel, and fish is infinite (u can place as many traps as it fits in the river..which is almost infinite):D
15 fish traps + 3 fluid press I got now to make enough fuel for my furnaces, campfires, cooking place, etc.
This maybe irreleveant on your server if you get 2x/3x/4x gathering but where I play is no bonus for farming.. its hardcore server:D
also this way ALL coal can be used as tar too no need to farm hide.. which also reduces bark farming ... so u gain a lot of time using oil as fuel... I just did that last 3 days when I accidentally discovered oil can be used as fuel
since thta I only have to farm wood/stone/iron for my furnaces and carpentry.. no need to farm as many bark and coal can be used as tar my steel production become much easier

Oil i think even burns longer then coal and drywood.. drywood burns for 40 second (By wiki) im not sure i didnt look it ..but I know 100 oil works for 1 hour 20 minutes (which is 4800 seconds so 48seconds each)
coal I believe is 35 seconds or so
since I use oil I got a lot more time for farming other stuff no need to repair my steel axe/hatchet (after farming coal/wood/drywood) which takes a lot of iron/coal etc. farming

Goddamnit! I was wondering how to get Hardened Steel. I know how to make lots of Steel, I can get Brimstone well enough. Hell I have a Large Crate full of Brimstone. But I didn't know it was involved twice in making Hardened Steel.
Why not just kill npc at asagard or mound of dead

You can get thrall and farm for your god too
Sasuke Uchiha Because you only get about 150 steel from Asgarth if you kill every single thrall, and they take about 15 minutes to respawn. In that 15 minutes respawn time you could have gotten enough mats to produce something like 500 steel. Substantially more if you have T3-T4 smelters.
You can produce easily 1-2k steel bars in an hour if you're doing it right.
If you only farm a town you're gonna get about 600 bars in an hour? And that's assuming you're the only one farming the town and thus you get every single bar dropped.
Edit: 600 also assumes you're farming so fast and efficiently that you manage to wipe out the town 4 times per hour. 3 wipes an hour (450 steel) is far more realistic.

Luckily there is a map room there
Use it to spawn at mound and farm again
And then go home since my home nearby mound

Add the time to farm hide for tar and Brimstone too
also fastest way for brimstone is volcano killing the rock monsters ( i use star metal pick for it and get around 200 per kill)

There is only 2 ways to get Hardened Steel. Kill stuff and hope it drops it which is very grindy or make it. It's not really hard to make and much easier than grinding for it. Because you will need a ton of it.

I made the brimstone video first m8 why would I do it all over again when I have already shown it. There is nothing cheap about it. It's called good time management on my part and omg you had to watch another 5 min video. You poor thing.

Alphonso Frett The skirt is Dekerto. Level a Pleasure Place of Dekerto to a dome (first upgrade.)
The top is, I THINK, a Kambasomthing . It's the medium armor from the "Raider Armor" feat.
Edit: The mask is also Dekerto btw. Same as the skirt. As far as i can tell he had no gloves or boots on.
Edit2: If you also don't know, pleasure place of Dekerto is the god-shrine for her. And you upgrade it by crafting the upgrade in the shrine it's self, the same way you would build any other item. If i remember correctly it automatically upgrades once the crafting is done.

Oil is a better fuel... that way you can press ur coal to make Tar. IMO barks a pain in the ass and always have way to much leather
U can use crusher to crush coal and make tar
5 coal for 1 tar Or you can put it in the tanner and get 1 for each leather.
i have a lvl 4 thrall and its not going 1-1 and not as fast as yours o_O

narcis815 on the wiki they say that a lvl 4 thrall will smelt 1-1 but I got 4 and none do. So the settings on the server where the wiki was use to search this was modified?
When i seed is servers seting i mean about the speed. And if you see on wiki a name thral can do 1-1 is rong just for iron to iron reinforment but not ironston in ironbar or ironbar in steel.

Not sure what words people want me to use to inform people that it is an easy to follow tutorial for beginners. I mean there are only 2 ways to get it without cheating. Killing things and harvesting resources/crafting it.

@MrToby101 my game is pretty stable. There are bugs sure, but nothing game breaking. The main thing to look for when choosing a server is low ping - try in the 60's and you should get much better play.

I conflict, so it doesn't really affect me.
I like building. and adventuring more than anything. Created a bunch of different buildings across the server. One of these days, I'm taking that bracelet off and leaving these God Forsaken Lands altogether.

Actually the fact that you start off screaming noob show how truly little you know. Oil and dried wood are exactly the same as burn times go.
Screaming noob was wrong but Dried wood is too precious to burn.
@KRB HI See now that is a good comment. Once I can actually have a conversation about. On officials yes. Just burn oil. It's way easier to get. However, it also comes down to the server you play on because you could be playing on a server where it is easy to get and if you don't live next to water it is a good resource to burn.

I guess if you don't need to make insulated wood for building or repairing your structures then yes burning dried would makes sense. But for black ice buildings I always want a lot of repair / rebuild materials stored up. Or even if I just want to build temp buildings north of the frost line for many different reasons. If you never build a structure north of the frost line, and T3 reinforced stone construction is good enough for you instead of black ice then yeah you probably have a surplus of dried wood to burn. Or maybe in PvE or PVP-C when you dont have to worry about building damage.
You get tar from putting coal in fluid press too
Like I told the other guy 5 coal for 1 tar Or you can put it in the tanner and get 1 for each leather. Would much rather get it from leather.
