What a thrill to see them back in Manitoba nesting and raising families year after year. Starting to see endangered whooping cranes back in Manitoba as well. Great conservation stories for sure. Well done.

Trumpeters have been setting up shop in the swamp area near our home for the last four or five years or more. SE Manitoba halfway between Winnipeg and Kenora. I've a few video recordings, their song is so beautiful.

I love this story of the trumpeter swans but I was also amazed as someone who lives a couple hours north of the headwaters of the great Mississippi River in Minnesota - Itasca State Park - that there is another Mississippi River - in Almonte, Ontario - why have I never heard of another Mississippi River before - I grew up on the Rainy River which is the border between the U.S. and Canada from Fort Frances/International Falls to Baudette/Rainy River out to Lake of the Woods and I bet no one in Northwestern Ontario has heard of the Mississippi River in Almonte, Ontario - everybody has heard of and loves trumpeter swans and loons which were also on the river in Almonte - but I wonder if any Winnipeg resident has heard of a Mississippi River in Ontario. P.S. Is there a Missouri River in Ontario, too?

They made a great comeback over 30 years ago on Vancouver Island. they could be seen in large flocks on agricultural land in the Comox Valley.

My great grandfather Alderman John Hallam of Toronto was responsible for many things, including creating the Toronto Public Library, but was also responsible for introducing swans to Toronto's waterfront. Toronto Star, October 9, 1894. I have the Star's article. He complained to the customs department about being charged $14.80 duty on the importation of 4 live swans.

How can we bring back our Red Headed Woodpeckers? I used to have them in Port Stanley but now they are gone. Have not had one in years.

Defund the cbc, continue to comment on every post they allow. Turning off comments denies conversation, and this is supposed to be our government tax payer funded media.
The cbc must go, spread the word.

It's interesting conservatives didn't hate CBC when they were in power. They could have defunded them when they had the opportunity. Must have been biased reporting in favour of cons or they would have. There's more to CBC than news views, and they have some of the best programming there is. Without it, I'll miss programs like Murdoch Mysteries, Marketplace and This Hour has 22 Minutes, just to mention a few.

@@jaygray7102 this isn’t 2006, cbc does nothing useful anymore.
As for your point to the conservatives not doing anything about cbc, the news was not a issue to argue before bill c-11 and bill c-13, making cbc one of the only news broadcasts available for Canadian viewership, effectively strengthening the propaganda power of the cbc.
Why are you talking about what wasn’t done more than 8 years ago especially when the circumstances were different.

The old "that was different" argument when it really wasn't.... 2 bills don't make the news or a country. CBC is definitely not one of the only news broadcasts available for Canadian viewership. Propaganda conspiracy theorists so popular with Conservatives know that, they make a living off them. @@dustin3136
