As someone who works in a tire shop. You’ll go to a tire shop when this fails on a really hot day but for something to get you outta a jam it’s a good tool to have.
Never ever do this to your tires!! A few weeks or months later, the air will get between the belts and that tire WILL look and ride like it's pregnant! If it's leaking, get to tire tire place and have it fixed right! ;-)

The DOT doesn't make something safe or unsafe. Example: look at a DOT rated helmet. Then look at a Snell rated helmet. DOT is government. Snell is not.

Things like these are designed to get you out of trouble until you can get to a tyre shop and get a permanent fix done, a permanent fix is done with a what is nicknamed a mushroom plug (I can't remember the proper name for it), the plug is pulled through from the inside of the tyre, the stem comes through the hole and the head covers the area around the puncture from the inside.
I like the old rubber ones better tbh. Not because they do a better job But because they’re just more satisfying to watch as they’re not a literal tire porno.
U need to still trim that plug flush with the tread, from my exp. it can work loose with it stickin out even a little bit, but still its only meant to temp repair till u get to a shop to patch it
False advertisement this is not a permanent puncture repair , a permanent puncture repair involves removing the tyre from the rim and patching the puncture from the inside.

Secondly, I haven't seen a single one of these repairs that hasn't leaked months later. Guess what happens then? You have to come to the shop to get the patch you should have gotten in the first place... That is, if your temporary fix hasn't screwed up the inside of the tire beyond our ability to vulcanize a patch in place. Meaning, your attempt to save money might actually cost you more.
fun fact. In nz these repairs are illegal for cars that are registered. You have to get a plug repair where you strip the tyre off the rim and a rubber plug is inserted into the hole from the inside of the tyre
