My cousin spent years trying to get custody of his daughter, spending thousands, but every time the judge awarded her full custody, and made him pay the maximum child support. She was even awarded custody while under indictment for manufacturing and selling meth. Talk about a screwed up "Justice" system. He was finally able to get custody when she got old enough to say who she wanted to be with, and she immediately said her daddy. The JUDGE tried to get her to change her mind, she looked him square in the eye, and told him if she never saw her mother again, that would be fine with her. To this day (at thirty-eight years old) she has very little to do with her birth mother, her step-mother is who she calls Mom. When she, grudgingly, acknowledges her BM, she calls her by name, and you can hear the sarcasm dripping off her tongue!
Glad with this happy ending... This story is a good way to remind the justice system that in cases of divorce the wife is not always the innocent victim and the husband is not always the horrible monster. 😕

this story is why I hate the family courts. they almost always grant custody of the kids to the mother and then force the father to pay crazy amounts of child support to the point the father has to work multiple jobs to keep up. even if the father proves what the mother is doing, they get a slap on the wrist and told to not do it again. the system needs to change or most men are going to lose everything just in hopes of being in their kids lives. and that's if the mother hasn't been alienating them from the father. the system is wholly biased against men and it needs to either change or be burned to the ground

It was infuriating me that the judge allowed ip to be talked over without comment yet rebuked him for trying to stand up for himself. Both sides should be able to tell their full story uninterrupted before any counter arguments can be brought up and child support shouldn't be allowed to keep going up unless the one paying child support chooses to get a better job and better pay. Their living expenses should also be taken into account. Also I really think child support money should have to be accounted for on what is being spent on so the receiver can't just waste/abuse it and the person recieving child support should still be required to have their own job not just expect to be taken care of

As a PI, I can say with 100% confidence that this story is 100% BS. Any evidence gathered by a PI can not be dismissed as faked or hearsay, as ‘evidence’ gathered by either party could be dismissed as. The PI would be present in court to substantiate his evidence. Evidence of drinking and driving in court would’ve been utterly devastating to her custody. And as such, the judge would’ve never allowed her custody to continue. Judges don’t stoop to admonishing anyone as that would indicate that they weren’t be fair or impartial. In family court, kids are never brought in as witnesses, as they should be never exposed to this kind of drama.
I have said this to several people that the court system is too attached to birth parent women and screw men and other women who are married to the birth parent. Birth mothers need to start working after the children are in school and need to contribute 50% to the children's care and stop screwing the non-custodial parents to live off the ex parent.
Fr some men are outright barely surviving because they have pay child support that the mother herself can't even provide. Child support should be strictly based on child expenses

There is someone I am close to who was reamed by the state they live in and forced to pay the Mom to breastfeed even though she refused to do it. She contributed nothing to the child's life until he was heading to college. At one point, the kid called and demanded a Kiureg because he needed to treat his ADHD with coffee. No, instant wasn't good enough, it HAD to be a Kiureg. He was 10. Now you tell me who really wanted that machine? Btw, until the "child" graduated college and started looking for work, he treated his supporting parent as an ATM. We are certain that much of what he demanded to get was for his custodial parent. Children are taught greed and classist behavior, just like they are taught hate and ignorance. Many children are abused by their custodial parents and the kids don't see it. Also, the child began refusing to visit their paying at the age of 10 with no reasons ever given. I told the paying parent (PP) to stop paying until there were reasons given and therapy begun but the PP was too afraid of being drug back into court and forced to hand over more money. And NO I am not either parent. I am happily childfree by choice after helping my parents raise several of my siblings' kids.
That's a myth. OP's ex got everything she asked for because she had a good lawyer and OP got free lower quality representation (underpaid/ overworked/no time to build a good case). Women generally get custody because men don't ask for it. Most states default to 50/50 these days. When men do go for custody they usually get it. But money is the deciding factor. A friend of mine recently lost custody to her ex. She was a stay at home mom by mutual agreement (religious family). He's a doctor who's never home. He recently remarried and had a baby recently with his new wife. My friend, the primary caregiver to their children, got every other weekend, and the workaholic father got full custody. His wife, who is caring for their newborn, will be the one actually responsible for the children. The father won't be caring for the children or even have time for them, but he's a doctor and doesn't want to pay the child support he'd be ordered to otherwise because it would be a lot (and he can afford it). The children (teens) said they want to live with their mom, but money talks. In a sane world, they'd live with their mom who has always taken care of them and visit their dad that they will barely see in any case. Basically, the new stepmom they barely know got custody. Courts don't favor women. I know several other women who got custody and child support, the ex sued for 50/50 to avoid child support, won, and still never see their kids. Custody wasn't the goal. Reduced or eliminated CS was. There should be penalties for failing to use court ordered custody for absentee parents. This interferes with work schedules for the parents who are actually caring for the children who have to miss work or scramble to find last minute childcare when the other parent (usually the dad) doesn't bother to show up.

My stepmother did that with my child support. She had my dad buy me school clothes. She would buy supplies which were not expensive. I would also buy clothes with my babysitting money. She would get her coworker to give her clothes. The lady assumed she was helping out the church. No she brought a big garbage bag home. Tell me try on clothes. If they fit goof. She would buy her brand new school clothes for work.

I see the smart system we have in place where i live. (Scandinavia) … the childsupport is a fixed amount, does not matter how much you earn, rich or poor, all pay the same in child support. (And if you dont, the “system” will pay to the parent, and then automatically hold back the paycheck and take the money from there, - so there is no way around it at all. But the good thing is you know how much it is, and there cannot be continuously court appearances to try to increase og decrease it. Easy to handle, easy to maintain the system. (But also giving spousal support is most unusual here).

Child support should be put in a joint account and the mother should also put in the same amount of money thats required of child support payments and both parties should have an active view of what the money is being spent on. Agreed. Joint account assigned only to pay for the needs of the children. Each party is only allowed to spend from it via Debit or Check Transactions. Receipts/Copies of Receipts from each transaction must be saved. I did a quick search and found that Quickbooks can connect directly to banking accounts. Upload an image of each receipt to QB and it will maintain records of each transaction. If a receipt cannot be received for any reason (printer problems at the merchant) photographic evidence of the point of sale machine showing the total should be taken in lieu, a list of purchased items written down later, and an explanation of what happened to the original receipt. I'd add that expenses should be paid to the adult caring for the children for similar expenses only (Tickets to Disney, food at Denny's, Groceries, Clothes, gas, car maintenance (not a new car), etc).
Making this part of my comment before any updates. I would definitely agree with finding as much proof of many aspects of her life and behavior. Even before finding anything between her and her lawyer, there should be a lot of questions asked if you find proof of her going out very frequently, getting drunk often, and making purchases of non child clothing/jewelry. One would hope the courts would inquire where all the funds are coming from to allow this lifestyle since she is unemployed and she is not allowed to use child support for this. Turned out like I thought it would. The lawyer was fighting so hard for two reasons. The relationship and because he could funnel the money back to himself through legal fees she was paying him with the child support money. The question is, did he even love her or was he going to drop her the moment they couldn't squeeze more money out of OP, and thus she wouldn't be useful to funnel money from anymore.
While I do like the fact OP won in the end this story does stand as a testiment that unless your chromosomes match, you are a second class citizen in the legal system
But then her abuse allegations would have been easier to prove. Even if it had been once, the evidence she got from that would have easily been able to prove he had been 'abusive' for however long she needed him to be. At best, he would have been fined and had a restraining order against him and not allowed to see his children period. At worse, he would have been thrown into jail if Laura and Banks wanted to take it that far.

It would have ended so much faster if he just hired a lawyer. He screwed up his appearance and got steamrolled by his own incompetence. Dude almost lost everything just to save a nickel or two. He only got lucky enough that the PI was able to be a credible witness, and even that wasn't guaranteed considering how little he was willing to spend for his own children.
Creative writing. Both lawyers have a witness list. Period, the kids being put on the stand without his knowledge would get their testimony at worst thrown out and at best prevented from speaking on the stand.
the problem in this case was the obvious bias against the Father. courts invariably give 95% consideration to the mothers evidence, even though a good 90% of that evidence can be proven to be faulce. Plus courts invariably fail to see that a father,can be just as good a parent as a mother if not in some cases a better parent.

Due to ongoing politics, we have all learned about lawyers making extremely unethical decisions and bad behaviors. On both sides. It’s been pointed out that while judges cant suspend lawyers from practicing law. Judges can only make recommendations. The recommendation is sent to the state bar association as the bar is who grants and who suspends licenses in each state. So, if anyone knows more about this, we would love to hear if judges can also legally suspend a license. I understood that’s laws revoking licenses was the same for every state. Is that true?

I have said this to several people that the court system is too attached to birth parent women and screw men and other women who are married to the birth parent. Birth mothers need to start working after the children are in school and need to contribute 50% to the children's care and stop screwing the non-custodial parents to live off the ex parent.
Fr some men are outright barely surviving because they have pay child support that the mother herself can't even provide. Child support should be strictly based on child expenses

Not that the kid would care if the parent without the money didn't use the children's lack as erroneous evidence that the non-custodial parent doesn't care.
There is someone I am close to who was reamed by the state they live in and forced to pay the Mom to breastfeed even though she refused to do it. She contributed nothing to the child's life until he was heading to college.
At one point, the kid called and demanded a Kiureg because he needed to treat his ADHD with coffee. No, instant wasn't good enough, it HAD to be a Kiureg. He was 10. Now you tell me who really wanted that machine?
Btw, until the "child" graduated college and started looking for work, he treated his supporting parent as an ATM. We are certain that much of what he demanded to get was for his custodial parent.
Children are taught greed and classist behavior, just like they are taught hate and ignorance. Many children are abused by their custodial parents and the kids don't see it.
Also, the child began refusing to visit their paying at the age of 10 with no reasons ever given.
I told the paying parent (PP) to stop paying until there were reasons given and therapy begun but the PP was too afraid of being drug back into court and forced to hand over more money.
And NO I am not either parent. I am happily childfree by choice after helping my parents raise several of my siblings' kids.
That's a myth. OP's ex got everything she asked for because she had a good lawyer and OP got free lower quality representation (underpaid/ overworked/no time to build a good case). Women generally get custody because men don't ask for it. Most states default to 50/50 these days. When men do go for custody they usually get it. But money is the deciding factor. A friend of mine recently lost custody to her ex. She was a stay at home mom by mutual agreement (religious family). He's a doctor who's never home. He recently remarried and had a baby recently with his new wife. My friend, the primary caregiver to their children, got every other weekend, and the workaholic father got full custody. His wife, who is caring for their newborn, will be the one actually responsible for the children. The father won't be caring for the children or even have time for them, but he's a doctor and doesn't want to pay the child support he'd be ordered to otherwise because it would be a lot (and he can afford it). The children (teens) said they want to live with their mom, but money talks. In a sane world, they'd live with their mom who has always taken care of them and visit their dad that they will barely see in any case. Basically, the new stepmom they barely know got custody. Courts don't favor women. I know several other women who got custody and child support, the ex sued for 50/50 to avoid child support, won, and still never see their kids. Custody wasn't the goal. Reduced or eliminated CS was. There should be penalties for failing to use court ordered custody for absentee parents. This interferes with work schedules for the parents who are actually caring for the children who have to miss work or scramble to find last minute childcare when the other parent (usually the dad) doesn't bother to show up.
@@user-xd6nc6rg7b it is not a myth. I have known many differently gendered people who have been screwed by the laws in the state they live in and by the system in Divorces having a heavy bias toward birth mothers.
It is Interesting to note that this bias aligns completely with the current conservative high Court we have running, save the babies and save the mothers right to breastfeed. We are living in a country where the Victorian Era never ended and where, it seems, members of the GOP hop back and forth through time to pull more idiotic ideas of how to destroy the democracy with ease and with the aiding and abetting of the undereducated that kiss their butts.
The court system in all areas in this country is broken and only the rich wheels get the oil. You can have a great lawyer and get screwed because you don't use your boobs to feed a child.
This is SO Victorian and ignorant. Birth Mothers need to help provide for the monetary needs of their children whether married or not. Women who use the excuse that they want to make sure their children are raised properly produce children who have no idea of how to problem solve, how to make decisions, how to take care of their own needs like cooking and laundry. We are using the excuse that because the human brain isn't mature until 25, our children can wait to learn how to be independent. I am NOT saying that parents aren't necessary and important ; I am saying that once the kids are in school FT then mommy needs to go to work and the kids need to help take care of their home, themselves and their siblings. Not parentification but learning to live in a community, their home.
Read the books of Horatio Alger, Jr. Who wrote some interesting novels in the 19th century which shed light on America of today. It is time that the laws in this country were based on reality and not antiquated biases that only continue to destroy the foundation of our society and our goverment.

Child support should be tied to when the parent has physical custody. When mom has them she pays when dad does he pays.
Nope once I find out just what she's doing with that child support I would've asked the judge to make her show receipts that detail and prove that it's going to the children plus put a stop those ridiculous increases. How she's getting away with this is crazy
My stepmother did that with my child support. She had my dad buy me school clothes. She would buy supplies which were not expensive. I would also buy clothes with my babysitting money. She would get her coworker to give her clothes. The lady assumed she was helping out the church. No she brought a big garbage bag home. Tell me try on clothes. If they fit goof. She would buy her brand new school clothes for work.

I see the smart system we have in place where i live. (Scandinavia) … the childsupport is a fixed amount, does not matter how much you earn, rich or poor, all pay the same in child support. (And if you dont, the “system” will pay to the parent, and then automatically hold back the paycheck and take the money from there, - so there is no way around it at all. But the good thing is you know how much it is, and there cannot be continuously court appearances to try to increase og decrease it. Easy to handle, easy to maintain the system. (But also giving spousal support is most unusual here).

I'm so happy for the original poster and I'm glad he was able to give his ex-wife exactly what she deserved along with her terrible piece of shit lawyer but look I do want to say this at the same time as an honest opinion the original poster should have came in more prepared the first time he had to defend himself in court by gathering enough evidence like if he was aware of this is how terrible his wife was he should have been gathering up a good paper trail to make sure he didn't look like a piece of shit that beat father in the first place because that's what got him there was this lazy personality of not documenting his behavior in the first place but I do understand like okay it's one thing if you're in shock at the fact that your wife is divorcing you but it's like come on man of you're aware of how her behavior is this is something you should have been able to show to the court immediately

Child support should be put in a joint account and the mother should also put in the same amount of money thats required of child support payments and both parties should have an active view of what the money is being spent on. Way too many women are getting child support and its basically just a free check for them. Edit: Honest to God I'd argue that men should outright stop having children and getting married. Agreed. Joint account assigned only to pay for the needs of the children. Each party is only allowed to spend from it via Debit or Check Transactions. Receipts/Copies of Receipts from each transaction must be saved.
I did a quick search and found that Quickbooks can connect directly to banking accounts. Upload an image of each receipt to QB and it will maintain records of each transaction. If a receipt cannot be received for any reason (printer problems at the merchant) photographic evidence of the point of sale machine showing the total should be taken in lieu, a list of purchased items written down later, and an explanation of what happened to the original receipt. I'd add that expenses should be paid to the adult caring for the children for similar expenses only (Tickets to Disney, food at Denny's, Groceries, Clothes, gas, car maintenance (not a new car), etc).

Making this part of my comment before any updates. I would definitely agree with finding as much proof of many aspects of her life and behavior. Even before finding anything between her and her lawyer, there should be a lot of questions asked if you find proof of her going out very frequently, getting drunk often, and making purchases of non child clothing/jewelry. One would hope the courts would inquire where all the funds are coming from to allow this lifestyle since she is unemployed and she is not allowed to use child support for this.
Turned out like I thought it would. The lawyer was fighting so hard for two reasons. The relationship and because he could funnel the money back to himself through legal fees she was paying him with the child support money.
The question is, did he even love her or was he going to drop her the moment they couldn't squeeze more money out of OP, and thus she wouldn't be useful to funnel money from anymore.
The judge can't put her in jail for not getting a job, and he can't suspend the lawyer without due process. What a BS story.
While I do like the fact OP won in the end this story does stand as a testiment that unless your chromosomes match, you are a second class citizen in the legal system
You went through a lot, but it would have been sooner, easier, and better if you had gotten a good divorce lawyer in the first place.

That was his biggest mistake. Nothing curbs a violent temper more than the fear of retaliation.
But then her abuse allegations would have been easier to prove. Even if it had been once, the evidence she got from that would have easily been able to prove he had been 'abusive' for however long she needed him to be. At best, he would have been fined and had a restraining order against him and not allowed to see his children period. At worse, he would have been thrown into jail if Laura and Banks wanted to take it that far.

It would have ended so much faster if he just hired a lawyer. He screwed up his appearance and got steamrolled by his own incompetence. Dude almost lost everything just to save a nickel or two. He only got lucky enough that the PI was able to be a credible witness, and even that wasn't guaranteed considering how little he was willing to spend for his own children.

the problem in this case was the obvious bias against the Father. courts invariably give 95% consideration to the mothers evidence, even though a good 90% of that evidence can be proven to be faulce. Plus courts invariably fail to see that a father,can be just as good a parent as a mother if not in some cases a better parent.
What’s bad is even the great dads who want to support their kids gets screwed by the court system an the child support office seems like the agents always already assume that the father is a dead best an that just isn’t right I understand there is a lot of fathers who just walk out their actions makes ppl classify all dads as deadbeats

I’m confused about Mr Beans though. Due to ongoing politics, we have all learned about lawyers making extremely unethical decisions and bad behaviors. On both sides. It’s been pointed out that while judges cant suspend lawyers from practicing law. Judges can only make recommendations. The recommendation is sent to the state bar association as the bar is who grants and who suspends licenses in each state. So, if anyone knows more about this, we would love to hear if judges can also legally suspend a license. I understood that’s laws revoking licenses was the same for every state. Is that true?

This story was very hard for me to listen to. Domestic violence against men is very real. And there's very few resources for male victims. I'm not done watching the video yet. But I hope OP gets justice for himself and his kids
