Story :-
Samuel aka Sam and his wife Mia have led a simple and comfortable life in their large 4-bedroom house which has been their safe haven. They have two children; Sean who is fourteen and seven-year-old Tia. Their children have been their ‘everything’, or were till Rachel moved in with them.
Rachel is Mia’s older sister and a mother of six children. Her divorce wasn’t a pleasant affair so he and Mia, being empathetic, agreed to let Rachel move in with them till she found a perfect apartment and a stable job. Now, she refuses to leave the house and find work.
Sam and Mia are distressed since they noticed the drastic increase in their monthly expenses. Rachel and her children consume thrice the rations Sam’s family does and with them moving in, the bills have skyrocketed as well. The couple decided to talk to Rachel and request that she pay rent or contribute to monthly rations.
Rachel’s reaction wasn’t what they’d been anticipating. She shouted at the two, ripped the rental agreement, and called them heartless and greedy. The people heard them and saw Rachel crying which led the Todds to become the center of everyone’s disgust. Rachel didn’t stop there. She’s gone as far as to turn OP’s children against them and is attempting to win their trust by playing the victim.
Sam has decided to join the platform to share the predicament he’s in and wants to know if he did the right thing by deciding to charge his sister-in-law rent or demand her monthly contribution in household rations especially when she’s received a huge sum of settlement money from the divorce. Sam looks forward to the guidance of the audience to help him get out of his quandary.

Once the ‘whole town’ hated OP and his wife anyway, why not just live down to their assumptions and kick them all out for real.
I would so do that, all their real friends know the truth anyways especially the ex husband. On the upside no one will never ask to move into their house ever again with a reputation like that. After just the first update I'm like, ok, locks on the fridge, pantry, washing machine, fuse box, etc. warm water is only available at fixed shower times and there's a schedule, same with laundry, food is given out at meal time, otherwise the kids have a snackbox that is refilled after the scheduled grocery shopping trip, everyone in town not liking that can take them in or help pay for the increase in living costs. Like, the heck? People think feeding 7 nonpaying extra mouths that use water and electricity is that easy? They are free to do just that.

But honestly, since she does not want to move out, does not want to help pay the bills AND is poisoning the kids, even OPs kids, I'd rather live in a prison like enviroment and have her suffer and hopefully move out and if the children complain I'd just tell them, well, if the aunt can't help with bills, this is what we need to do to be able to have aunt and her 6 kids live with us without paying anything. Like, why go into debt or deplete your savings for someone who actually has money and could work, but just doesn't want to?

I would have taken away any extras normally provided to the family....vacations, extracurricular activities, etc. Tell the kids you need the money for food. I would also have never let her in the house without signing a lease agreement. He has got to go through the eviction process asap or she will never go.

I wonder if Rachel's ex-husband is the father of any or all the 6 kids. If so, he could have requested custody since Rachel technically has no place of her own to live.
How the parents brushed of Sean's phone calls and told him to go tell Rachel what he wants was a bit cruel but effective to make him realize reality. He can't expect his parents to support Rachel and 6 kids indefinitely. No matter how financially stable you are as soon as you get too many mouths to feed you're being sucked dry. Sean is also old enough to see this but he's also very gullible for a 14 year old and falls easily to any sob story.

Tell him that since this is about money. Since he supports his aunt, he can go without because she needs to not work. And stop giving him anything. And remind him every time he wants something,you can't because auntie needs it more. And see how long that lasts.
I would explain to the kids how much more things are costing now and we have to cut corners to make our monthly budget. Netflix is gone, cable, streaming is gone, minimal wifi and pull the plug when the packets have been exceeded. No more pizzas, more rice and beans for dinner, no more happy meals or taco bell. Explain that when others expect you to finance their life that it will affect their quality of life, but it's family and everyone has to make sacrifices including themselves. I would also point out to the teens in the house that they better get jobs and start saving for college because if this continues for years there's not going to be much of a college fund. Let that bit of reality sink in for them and see how fast they change their tune when it starts affecting them.
