This is a very, very helpful review of the different Sailor pen models and sizes. I don't know why Sailor makes these so confusing. I bought a 1911S early on in my fountain pen interest because it said that S was for Standard, and it turns out I would have been much happier with a L (for Large) (this is what happens when you don't have a shop to go to, to actually try things out). But on the other hand they make the L size so much more expensive just because of the nib difference. Some of this seems just arbitrary, and I don't have these issues with Pilot or Platinum pens.

Thank you for using the colored versions! I wanted to see the colors in motion under different lighting and it was easier to distinguish.

Thanks for the video Brian! I've had my eye on a Sailor pen for a while but didn't know the difference between the pen models. You did a great job explaining the differences and similarities.

Thank you so much for a wonderfully informative video. This has answered quite a few queries I had with these pens. Now the dilemma, which model and which colour!

Almost wished you had demo version of the pens, nostalgic to sales in the 80s. Will look at Sailor more favourable bc of your vid.

Great review and great job explaining the differences. One question, how easy are all these for disassembling and cleaning (not referring to the Montblanc)? Can you disassemble the Realo series with the Twsbi wrench?

I believe the sections are the same between equivalent series: 1911 and Pro Gear, 1911 Std. and Pro Gear Slim, ... You can produce hybrids: cap flat top and barrel torpedo shape or viceversa.

Anderson Pens presented the clearest explanation as well as the most comprehensive description of dimensions and nib differences. I want to, and I will, go to Anderson.com to explore the variances of Sailor products. Thank much.

Sailor Pens, like most other Japanese pens are fairly light. The heaviest Sailors are 1911 Black Luster (metal section) and the Pro Gear regency Stripe (metal overlay, now discontinued). There are other models with the metal section, but outside of possible Japanese Domestic variations, none in current production.

The Pro Gear (regular) is the one that is atop my wish-list of must-have pen at the moment. It looks like an outright classic. And I think the black pen with the silver/rhodium trim is the best. Sailors have some of my favourite nibs of all time. And the 21K (broad) is irresistible. What does the Pro Gear Regular currently cost? I covet it even if it’s sinful. 😀
