This is the first video since I have been watching Soap videos that broke it all the way down in the simple form. Break it down to me like I am a 5-year-old. It was very clear and I truly understand this Soap Calc now. I appreciate you!
For the first time, I have been able to understand the soap calc - thanks to you! Now I am doing 1 lb test batches - I love being able to make and test best soap for me💗
Thank you so much for this video. I really needed it. I’ve been soaping for awhile and using TH-cam videos as inspiration and help and always wondered if there was something I could do different or better and this video answered a lot of questions. Again, thank you for taking the time to demonstrate all the different recipes. I can tell you love what you do and you are awesome!!
I tried your soap recipe #2 & it worked great. It had a slow trace so I had a lot of time to work with it. It made a very nice hard & bubbly bar. Thank you for sharing it!
Thank you so much for going over how to use soap calc, up until now I was so intimidated but all the information that was on the screen and now I’m much more confident in how to use soap calc! Thank you! You explained it very well!
This was a wooooooonderful comparison video! You did a fantastic job keeping consistent and organized for each batch. Great video and great soaps, Ellen 💚
@@EllenRuthSoap I already had planned on incorporating teaching my youngest and now my granddaughter how to make soap lotions etc .for the homeschooling program I'll be creating....plus gardening, canning woodworkimg as well as other teachings homeschooling is so much more beneficial!
Oh Ellen, you really did it at this time. Priceless informations. Thank you for your time to do this very educational video. Learned a lot. Sure I appreciate your time and effort put into it.
Ellen, you are by far the queen of soap making on youtube! Your voice is so calming and you really have inspired me into soap making. I haven't made my first loaf yet because i want to understand the chemistry behind it more. How do you know how much lye and water to use. That is where I'm so stuck on this soap calc
This was extremely helpful, informative and just a pleasure to watch. Thankyou for sharing 😊 I never thought a soap with green in it could be so pretty and luxurious looking.😍
Oh Ellen!, this was absolutely great! so glad you took the time and trouble(you make it look so easy, but I know it was time consuming)to make this video. It has helped me so much. I am going to dive into these recipes for I just got one of those molds in the mail yesterday and I like the look of it so far. I am new to soapmaking(just over 6 months) and is still learning...just in the last month or two I feel that I have started making soap that I would not mind selling, thanks to your videos. Keep up the excellent work!
Omg thank THANKKKK YOU for showing us how to use soap calc! It was so intimidating when I got on the site 😅but you came thru for me!!! I can watch ur videos all day! I’ve even made lotion bars and the lip balms! Ur such an inspiration! I will always look for ur videos!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼💕💕💕
Out of the 4 batches I'm very much drawn to #3 the hemp seed oil soap and #1 the palm oil soap. Your so kind to share all of these recipes with us, thank you Ellen 😊
@@charmainattwood you can easily make one from a piece of wire from the hardware store or with a wire coat hanger. Soap makers often make a lot of their own tools, especially something like a wire swirling tool, which there is no point in paying a lot of money for, otherwise their profits get eaten in to by unnecessary purchases. Notice she was also using easter egg dye cups, as she mentioned above? Look around you for what you have available & put those things to use in your own way.
Thank you Mrs. Ellen. For sharing this video. I looked at this website all the time, but it was very confusing to me. Now, After you explaining it I understand it better. It is amazing the soap making.
I’ve been out of my soaping loop a few years, got burned out and set it all aside. Planning to pick back up and ran onto this. That lye calc was my fave!! I REALLY appreciate the test recipes and the follow through to the end here. I don’t see a lot of that, maybe I’ve not been looking for it but it was a really nice find. When I started soaping over 10 years ago it was all trial by fire rofl there were some recipes out there but it was always with ingredients I didn’t have and starting up we all know how expensive it is to start anything so I was crafting my own soaps from scratch. I have my old recipes laying around here somewhere-briefly saw them when I moved last summer 😱 I was NOT looking forward to finding them or starting from scratch. I’m anxious to try #1&3 from this. Spiralina & green clay is definitely gorgeous!
I have been studying soap videos all week and really learning tons. Thank you for your wonderful videos. I really like this one! Thanks for doing it side by side.
Fantastic teaching video! Especially appreciated the time spent breaking down the soap calculator. Bit intimidating for a beginner otherwise. You are so generous with your time and information! I just want to make for family and friends but want the bars to be luxurious. Number 3 recipe sounds like the one.
You went above and beyond on this one, my dear! I wish I'd had this when I first started soaping! But, I thoroughly enjoyed this video, and all the work you put into it. I appreciate how you always explain things so clearly. Thank you sooo much!
This video is very helpful Ellen, especially for those who don't know how to formulate a soap recipe!! Of those 4 you have posted, I like the second and third ones, which are similar to mine but I find the coconut oil is a little too heavy making the cleansing numbers too high. Those should be down to about 16 or so and a higher conditioning number to at least 58 or more. The rest of the oils and butters in both those recipes is good!! 👍
Oh my goodness thank you so much for this Video. I love that you share everything and it is very helpful for those of us who have no idea on how to formulate recipes. Thank You 🙏🏼
Thanks Ellen, this video is packed lots of great information. You really did a great job explaining how to calculate the recipe and understanding the oils. I have a much better understanding how to make a good recipe now.
I'm so thankful you shared how to use that specific lye calculator. I've been using Sage.... I've been making cold process soap for over 10 years, just for personal use and as gifts but am just now launching my (very small, local) business "Abundant Provision". I'm always happy to know why you are using a particular ingredient and what prupose it will serve in the soap you are making. Or perhaps how an ingredient reacts, positively or negatively, with other ingredients or skin. PS. - I also love that you homeschool. I'm currently pregnant with our 10th child, our oldest is in 7th grade. My husband and I are both homeschool graduates (though I've also done some time in public school) and we've homeschooled all along.
I made #1 and got it cut today. But I had to improvise a bit on soapcalc bc I did not have enough olive oil! I forgot to layer the color so mine doesn't look marbled. But I loved adding the milk to the oil, as well as sugar to the water. Hoping my family will like the new soap recipe after it cures.
You are such a lovely person! Thank you so much for sharing your time, skills and recipies! I don't intend to sell my soap I just want my family to have natural soap that doesn't irritate their skin! Thank you again for all your tutorials
I’m so glad you are treating yourself to some full bars. I’m new to the soap making world and I’ve been using almost everything I’ve made to test them out. Lol. Some have been recipes from you that I truly love. Keep up the good work.
Nice job Ellen on showing us the steps on soap making, and the lather test. I am a beginner and this helps a lot. I hope you demonstrate again. I would like to see you test creams and lotions. Thank you
Love love love the way you explained everything. For someone like myself who is new to soap making and love Spirulina this is fabulous. Thank you so much
Thank you soooooo much for this very helpful video! I homeschooled also for 12 yrs.! Love your soaps and I learn so very much from your videos. You are a blessing to share with us just learning and greatly appreciate your help and videos!!!
Thank you so very much! this was so helpful. I have been watching so many different video on soap making, and yours is the only one that I found helpful. Thank you again :)
Awesome and a lot of work. I am proud to use PALM Oil that is sustainable. I am a member of 'Palm Done Right'. A great organization to help sustainable palm growth so farmers can support their families and not go into the forest and do damage, instead. I understand there are some that won't use it, possibly because they are still thinking about all the issues of 2015 & haven't recently reintroduce theirs selves to the more recent changes to the industry. Palm oil is used extensively in the food industry now. So many changes have happened for the good of farmers, workers and animals alike for Palm Plantations all over the world. Sorry I go on. Cheers 💕💕
I started making soap for my son. He has eczema skin and I wanted him to have a variety of scents and colours to choose from, all the while being confident of what has gone into it. So, he gets to choose any bar of soap that he wants. I just mooch some off of his rack when I want to see how a particular recipe turned out. Thanks so much for sharing your recipes too. Except no. 3, I usually make my soaps with the same ingredients. But I try to add 15% -20 total of butters. Thank you again.
I want to tell you how much I enjoy your video. It has helped me so much. The soap cal was just awesome. Gave me lots of ideas and information. Please keep them coming
This is the best soap making video I've ever seen on TH-cam. Great job. I love your presentation. Very clear instructions and after effect results are a big help. Thanks for the free course :)
I have a slow computer and for those of you that have slow computers where ads slow it down even more then you might want to try the wsp lye calculator. It is the exact same thing as soapcalc (maybe a few less exotic oils) and without the distracting ads. It was probably written or bought by the exact same programmers. Just a helpful tip. Additionally, I have the exact essential depot mold. They must have changed sizes over the past few years. The width on mine is smaller then the reported width on their website. Nonetheless, it is a very good mold and getting soap out of it is ridiculously easy. The soap dang near falls out of it when turned upside down. I wish I would have bought one or two more back then.
Recipe #2 is what I use with a little bit more Shea and Cocoa butter. I love it so much. Just made a beautiful batch using Rustic Essential Tangerine Gelato. Thank you for inspiring me to make my own soap.
This video is great! I think I might have done a different color per soap to make it easier to differentiate. Having all these bars at home, I would know immediately which bars have no perfumes, but #4 would probably stay at the kitchen sink. The rest in the bathrooms because they seem so moisturizing, and #4 is just a classic hand wash with no frills, but gets the job done! I love tbos video! I want to try soap making, but don't have the space. The supplies I would need and the cure.. I just don't have space. My husband would not be happy. I originally started looking at soap making to use bees wax in soap. We will be eventually buying a house, and I want to keep bees. I believe I could have a couple hives and always have honey, never have to buy soap, and always have lovely gifts that won't break the bank. Hubby is disabled and I believe my factory days are numbered as I'm not getting any younger. Anyhow, thank you for sharing!
Absolutely love this soap I ordered some the other day can’t wait to get it. I love the black and white strips with solid black. Also the molds Ellen uses are by 2 get the 3rd one free.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, it may have been your best video to date. I'm a fairly new soaper (6 months). Very informative, I can't decide who the best...yourself, Holly, or Tree Marie. Again awesome video!!!
I did it with the avocado oil and it turned out really good ❤ thank u a million times for this recipe I have been playing with it and making soap in oue hotel room and they are all turning out so good. I have made them all palm free too thank you so much 💛💛💛 I also used less olive oil, more coconut oil to try a little more solid bar. Seriously ur the best for sharing this.
Love you videos . Your soaps are beautiful. I did my first 3 CP soaps from recipes I got here on TH-cam. They turned out ok . They look good but not very much bubbles. I will try your recipes . Thank you so much for sharing. 😊😁
Brilliant video ellen , so clear and concise and so easy to understand one of the best i have seen , thank you so much for doing this ,i have learned so much from this, so thanks again your such a sweetheart.
These are SO pretty! This was such a fun video. 🤗 Thank you for sharing and all your hard work, time, and effort. You are such a joy. God bless you, Ellen. 🙏💜🙏
Wow. What alot of video work. Excellent info and a joy to watch. I have been looking for tussah silk- just a sm amt to try. I have made simple soap before, wanting to step it up. I rarely use fragrance bc of sensitive skin, I am gonna try 1 & 3. Thx so much.
This video rocks, thank you do much for generously sharing what you do in such detail. Soap calc has also helped me out greatly, along with an online measurement convertor to get things into grams. I have scaled down to have my end volume be exactly 1kg per batch as well, which is less confusing for me with the molds I have. I will be testing out 3 of your recipes this week. Wish I had some hemp seed oil on hand right now, but have everything else, including the tussah silk & sodium lactate. Can't wait to test these puppies out 🙂 I have subscribed & am going through your many videos, one by one. Thank you again ❤
Thank you SO much for doing this simple and straight forward soap calc video! I can't tell you how excited I am to see this. All the other videos loose me very early on. I've always used The Sage lye calculator because it's easy and I understand it, but now after watching your video, I'm going to try using soap calc.
Thank you Ellen for going over all of these soaps. It is so helpful to have a recipe to get started with and then add our own flair as we grow. I und erstand the dangers of lye but find most videos to be intimidating making me feel afraid to try soap making. Thank you for yet making us aware but not afraid. I want to come check out your booth at the farmers market sometime!! Until then "happy soaping"!!
These are all pretty and i like the swirls. I like 20% coconut oil though and at 6% superfat, over 20% coconut oil is very drying to my skin as I'm going on 60 😔. Thank you Ellen for the recipes though, I can always tweek them 😉.
Thanks for another good watch, I enjoyed the video. The palm free recipe's are great, they are just as hard and luxurious. I'm really tempted to try spirulina have not tried it before, looks wonderful
Ellen, I’m a soap business owner for 7 years now and I have my own recipes but when I saw your video on the #3 recipe I had to try it. Today I made Christmas Cabin I wish I could post of pic of it on here. I used Forest Green & Tru Red mica using white and swirled it, pipped the top and drizzled a shimmer gold using oil & mica. I’ll cut it tomorrow. It’s the recipe with the hemp oil. Which I don’t use very often. But I had some left and decided to go for it just for fun. Well, I love the recipe and it fit perfect in my mold had a little left over for some sample sizes. It started to thicken up on me but not to fast, I’m thinking it was the mica or the fragrance. It looks great now, but I’ll cut it tomorrow and see how the swirls turned out. Thanks it was fun making and thank you for sharing the recipes. I must try those too. Happy holidays to you and your family.
Thanks, I rechecked it and put it in grams and added another butter. I hope you don’t mind. It made my soap harder. I also use salt and sugar into my lye water and the soap 🧼 turns out fabulous.
Thank you for the recipes and explaining how the oils work in the soap. I'm new at this and love your videos. I can't work anymore, so I thought, why not make soap. 😁 It looks like fun watching you soaper.
❤️💙💚💛💜Ellen you are a Star! I do appreciate your test sharing and your valuable comments to it. These video is very informative and you are so wonderful as always! Do what you doing because you are great at it. Ones again, big thank you 🙏PS: I bought the stamp from the guy you've recommended 😘
My husband has been asking me to learn to make a shaving bar for him so if you don't mind I would like to use #3 recipe for his shaving pleasures. Thank you for the video and sharing with us all.
There is a chart on line that has all of the saponification numbers on it. I printed it and have it in front of me for recipes. It truly helps to have a hard copy.
Hello, I'm french, i don't speak English Well but tank you very much for your vidéos. They are very interesting , very nice soap, very good work. Your age very sympathetic. Good day
What does the sugar do and how do you know how much goat milk to add to your recipes? I have learned so much from your videos, you are by far the most helpful and love the info on where to save money!!
The sugar is a lather builder and booster. For the milk portion - when mixing lye, you need at least that much water or liquid to mix it with, never put more lye than liquid in a pot. Then I take the extra liquid portion as milk and put it in the oils.

Where?
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, it may have been your best video to date. I'm a fairly new soaper (6 months). Very informative, I can't decide who the best...yourself, Holly, or Tree Marie. Again awesome video!!!
Wow ty so much I have seen a lot of soap vids but none literally explain everything and show how to do it like this one 😊❤
Glad you liked it!!❣️
Wonderful tutorial especially with the soapcal which I need to learn. I will definitely revisit this video. Thank you, once again for sharing.🥰💖
Glad it was helpful!
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the recipes 💕
Love you videos . Your soaps are beautiful. I did my first 3 CP soaps from recipes I got here on TH-cam. They turned out ok . They look good but not very much bubbles. I will try your recipes . Thank you so much for sharing. 😊😁
Brilliant video ellen , so clear and concise and so easy to understand one of the best i have seen , thank you so much for doing this ,i have learned so much from this, so thanks again your such a sweetheart.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
These are SO pretty! This was such a fun video. 🤗 Thank you for sharing and all your hard work, time, and effort. You are such a joy. God bless you, Ellen.
🙏💜🙏
Thank you so much!
Can't wait to test these puppies out 🙂
I have subscribed & am going through your many videos, one by one. Thank you again ❤
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it, have fun making💕
Thank you SO much for doing this simple and straight forward soap calc video! I can't tell you how excited I am to see this. All the other videos loose me very early on. I've always used The Sage lye calculator because it's easy and I understand it, but now after watching your video, I'm going to try using soap calc.
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for watching 🥰 I’m not doing farmers markets anymore...
Ok
These are all pretty and i like the swirls. I like 20% coconut oil though and at 6% superfat, over 20% coconut oil is very drying to my skin as I'm going on 60 😔. Thank you Ellen for the recipes though, I can always tweek them 😉.
Thanks so much for watching!
Loved this video! I just recently started using hemp oil. Very creamy. Thank you!
Glad you liked it!!
Thanks Ellen for the soap test! I too have done my own test on soap recipes, but great to see someone else do it on youtube. Beautiful bars!!!
Thanks!
Very detailed and informative. Soaps look awesome! Great job Ellen👏👏😍❤️
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for another good watch, I enjoyed the video. The palm free recipe's are great, they are just as hard and luxurious. I'm really tempted to try spirulina have not tried it before, looks wonderful
Thanks for watching! I love the earthy green that spirulina gives!
From one soaper to another, THANKS! Glad you gave the recipe a try❣️
Thanks, I rechecked it and put it in grams and added another butter. I hope you don’t mind. It made my soap harder. I also use salt and sugar into my lye water and the soap 🧼 turns out fabulous.
Huge hugs for sharing your recipes and testing 🙏🤗🧼
Thanks for watching 🥰
Thank you for your videos they really help with all things soapy! Giving me so much help and information.
You're so welcome 🥰
I love green color and I loved all the soaps.🥰🥰🥰
This is so helpful! Thank you Ellen
Awww, I didn’t know you were a homeschool mama! I love that!!
Yes! I loved homeschooling, and graduated all 4 of my children...
Thank you for the recipes and explaining how the oils work in the soap. I'm new at this and love your videos. I can't work anymore, so I thought, why not make soap. 😁 It looks like fun watching you soaper.
Soaping is so fun! Enjoy 💕

You are so welcome!
I need you to drop your skincare routine! Your skin looks amazing!
Thank you🥰 A good retinol, and red light mask, plus my own soap and lotion👍
Which one did you end up liking the best? :) Such a fun video! Thanks so much!!
# 2&3 were both really good!
Your soaps are amazing, I would still be happy to use dented or wonky ends in my shower every day!
great video!!!! now i'm curious to know which you preferred after an all over body use in the shower and which one left your skin feeling the best.
I liked them all very much, but I think #1 & 2 were my favorite by a slim margin
My husband has been asking me to learn to make a shaving bar for him so if you don't mind I would like to use #3 recipe for his shaving pleasures. Thank you for the video and sharing with us all.
Yes! #3 would make a great shaving soap! Enjoy!
Wonderful! Very good tutorial. I'm all set & hope to match your good result
Good day
Thanks for watching 🥰
This is one of the most helpful videos and exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!!!
You're so welcome!
Great video Ellen. Thanks for taking us along with you. 😁
Thanks 🥰💕
Oh darlin, I really enjoyed this video, so informative for a novice like me!!! ❤️ Ty for the links also 👍🌹
