DoorDash was at its peak around 2017-2021 them were the best years for me! Especially around Covid time! I was pulling of 300 a day in a 6-8 hour shift! Nothing but good orders, Large Orders.. hell I even got tips! After Covid DoorDash fell off hard.. it’s taking me a long ass time to hit my 100 and I get nothing but shit for orders… gotta cherry pick the hell outta orders just to get good ones! DoorDash really don’t care for us drivers getting the food, waiting for the food and bringing the customers the food… like shit 2 dollars is disrespectful but DoorDash is okay with allowing customers even pay that bs… and they wonder why I can’t maintain a high AR… I’m never going to pick up shit orders… I’m refuse to move for less than 7 bucks and I won’t move if the miles aren’t worth the pay! The Tier Program killed me. I used to receive 2-3 Catering offers per day, haven’t gotten one since Tier Program started and I’ve been with this company since 2018 - they’re happy to have migrants taking the $2-$4 orders, they don’t care and they especially don’t care about the Veteran drivers.

One thing I heard about DoorDash that is absolutely 100% accurate is that why you do still interact with restaurant employees for the most part there’s a lot of time that you just spent in your car by yourself and it is lonely and it’s not the same as working a regular 9 to 5 W-2 job Where you’re working with multiple people even if it’s only one other person. There is a mental toll that comes with the job which revolves around loneliness, which I don’t really think is discussed enough when it comes to these gig, economy, delivery driver applications.

The thing is, if I'm using my car and having to hustle from location to location, that comes at a cost in any other job. Except this. The things that normally come at a premium are just your working conditions as it pertains to food delivery apps. If at the end of the night, the hour per dollar ratio works out, that's one thing. But to accept those conditions only to find you're making what the lowest paid worker at a restaurant is getting at the end of the night, where they didn't have to go through half of what you did is hard to stomach. I just don't think this model can hold up. It's just broken.

I've only made $18,000 destroying my car and after dealing with bad customers who lie and complain, horrible drivers, employees with attitudes, restaurants that use cheap containers that leak out,
all of the AR and tier system crap, low base pay with zero tips - I'm trying to get out of it. Plus, I owe taxes and don't know what that's going to be like having to owe money to Uncle Sam.

I'm a Dasher, and I'm Platinum. I'm in an average sized city, if that makes sense. Me being Platinum definitely helps me.
I make around $35 an hour plus tips. Yes, I have tasks that aren't great, but around 80% of tasks are good. I never worry about tips. I look at the amount, mileage, and keep things very basic. I don't cherry pick, it wastes time to me. I don't complain about Doordash. If i wanna work, I work. If not, I won't. I focus on the benefits. I access my pay the same day. I have superior flexibility with my schedule. I also find being accommodating to customers and polite gets things going a lot smoother daily. Can't please all customers, though.

Great analysis. I am a former economics teacher. I recently retired and been doing Uber eats/grub hub full time for over three years (mostly because I want to say active). When I first started right after Covid …the market seemed to favor the driver. Gradually over the past three years it had turned in the opposite direction. Basically less deliveries and the ones we do…get paid less. Overall, it is not sustainable. As inflation increases, the payouts and deliveries decrease.

But that being said, opportunities have changed in my area, and the payouts are less than they were... but I have a theory. Even among the platinum dashers, if you are over 80% there is opportunity for the greater pay orders...but customers are not spending and tipping as much as they used to. It's simply doordash will never put a cap on how many dashers they hire for each market. Like many others, two markets I work used to be really good. In the last two months, I've noticed way more dashers in both areas and still seeing hiring ads from doordash in each market. Tony's concern is quick deliveries regardless if dashers are doing well or not. And of course lower tips or no tips (trash offers).
In the end, doordash is thriving, but most drivers are not. I'm platinum, and mostly just get recycled trash. I actually do better with earn by time overall. Believe it or not.
Be aware of how Tony pays you. Higher the tip, less the doordash contribution. I had a $14 delivery going 9 miles. 12 tip,2 doordash pay. For 9 miles, only 2 doordash pay. Everything has been set up to benefit the company and it's customers. Not the drivers. They knew most drivers would want to be platinum,so how many true platinum offers can go around?

They come and help me all the time. I don’t have anybody I’m gonna will them my home and all of my property because I have no one else to give it to! So that person don’t get something because God is whether you believe in God or not, and he makes things right and punishes those who do wrong and things for the wrong reason! Becoming a nail tech become a hairdresser have a little mobile station where you go around and you help elderly people you go pick them up and bring them to appointments or you bring it to their home and give them a perm or somebody who needs their nails painted or acrylic nails or whatever they’re so many options of different things you can do to make better money in tips! You just have to think outside of the box.
I used to have a local pet groomer come into my home to cut my pugs nails! The pugs weren’t being they just did not like their nails cut and put a lot of stress on them to take them out and to the dog parlor!😅
Another thing is if you’re DoorDash Uber whatever, get to know your customers, and have your customers to call you when they’re getting ready to put in a Walmart food order or whatever to be home delivered! They tip you good and you’ll always know that you can take care of that that’s one person that you know That knows you will call you every time they need food delivered so that’s good!
And I say this because I’m one of those people !!!👍 I have a wonderful lady that a lot of times picks up my Walmart order and delivers to my home. So I reached out to this woman said would you be willing to do this? If you would be willing to do this then I will order my food around within a window time and I will let you know ahead of time I’m putting in an order, if they wanna run and pick it up and bring it to me even if it’s off or whatever, I will and I’m only 2 miles or less from Walmart more like about 30 small blocks I can almost walk up there. I could definitely ride my ride a bike up there to Walmart. But I’m older so I don’t like to get out and drive especially in the winter so I well my grocery bills are usually around $200 every week and a half to two weeks and I tip anywhere from $10-$20.
Also, I like jets pizza and that’s about three or 4 miles from me and there’s just wonderful Christian guy that comes out and delivers it and he is the kindest sweetest young man and so I make sure I tip him extra and I put a amount into my order and then I tip them again when he delivers !
Because I appreciate the people who try to make a living that bring out my food.
The only downside to having somebody go into the store and shop for you is a lot of people don’t know how to shop they don’t understand that the freshest food is at the back of the shelf so if you have a shelf of a can of peaches, the freshest newest ones go in the back in the ones that are closer to expiring they rotate to the front. So when you’re shopping for delivery for someone grab the stuff in the back or take an extra second to look at the expiration date, especially on eggs and bread and milk and yogurt and stuff like that that has a short shelflife . I mean, take a glance over make sure there’s no mold on it real quick and you can whiz right through these things. I know that this delivery person who went and shopped for me extra time to get me the best products and the highest quality of that product, and that means a lot to me so an extra extra tip is always warranted For those people!👍

This is a Business, with executives that watch these videos! A few decades ago, you start a job and to move up you work your buns off and move up in pay, experience, ECT. This is the same today, exactly, you work in a business, you get paid for your service, the economy grows and so do you. Example, truck driver, if he turns down loads, the dispatchers and planner's will have that person sitting for days, this a business with customers just like Door Dash is. Deny an order, your choice but also you choose your own consequences and end up weeding yourself out of the business by getting mad and quitting! When you really sabotaged yourself by not performing your best inside of the BUSINESS! So, you guys can listen to this person if you want to....... Reap what you sow, Do nothing also receives nothing.

Correct, this is a business. The objective when running a business is to maximize profits. Are you saying drivers should take unprofitable orders and operate at a loss?

@@KevinT7274 I also drive a semi, 4-5 miles per gallon! Unlike your cars, 14-30 mpg. If a driver takes a low mile paying load, it does hurt us others wanting to take the load for good pay. My point is like us, you really have no choice, someone will run the orders, the Dash has no worries and you'll just be out there sitting waiting on an order longer.

@arthursmith5409 I'm a truck driver for my day job. I don't like sitting and waiting, but at the same time I'm not going to accept unprofitable orders. The key is knowing the right areas and right times to work them.

I think it depends on the area your in how much you make in how it's doing financially. This week I've made $227 on 11 and half hours of work. I stillade made more delivering for dominos around here but left there because of lousy management of the place who thought I should give them extra hours of work each week without base pay. All ofbthe major pizza places will try to robbed you of hours worked even if like me I worked to get the job done and not jerk off too much. Right now doordash is working for me but the area isn't easy to drive here in mountainous east tennesee. I know what they mean by having to put up with bad drivers especially the ones around here who drive too fast on very curvy roads going 20 mph plus on these roads. I just don't want give up my only money source right now to get a job like pizza delivery places where someone will come along in each place you work and will start causing you problems one way or another. I go to work and do what I suppose to do but some people have a problem with that... it's too difficult too handle for some people.

The completion rate is accurate. Once you accept the order, you should complete it. You took that responsibility when you accepted it. If the restaurant doesn't have the order, or you have extremely long wait, that doesn't count against your completion rate.
