It seems like everyone in their 20's cares what people think, by the time they get to 40's they stop caring. I think that is why some companies like 20 somethings, because those employees try to impress people. I thought about doing just gig work, but kind of feel like it is a grind that is always 1 broke down car away from being homeless.
I’m also sick of a 9-5, specifically anything that is related to customer service. Most of the jobs around my city are customer services/sales. It’s exhausting because most retails jobs don’t really pay much. Don’t get me started with warehouse jobs, that would exhaust the soul out of you. When employers want you to act more like them and less like you as possible, AKA kissing ass, then it's a real problem.
When I was in high school I worked in a small town bakery and I watched a guy retire that worked the ovens for 30+ years. 6 days a week, min wage, no med. That's just the way it is for many people. Those days are back and it sucks but what can we do? All I can say is evaluate your skills, look for jobs that pay well and try and get the skills they need. You don't have to go to college but you need to develop skills that matter. The first skill is showing up to work every day and working hard, it will get noticed sometimes. Yes working with people sucks but even if you have all the money in the world people still suck. Working as a kid in small businesses around aggressive managers hardened me to the real world.
