As a fellow English man you are a credit to our country. At 65 I am still trying and still learning to be a gentleman. Like you, I have no interest in social media and truly despair at some of the you tube videos that pop up with young men's opinions of women. Your videos show the correct way to behave. Please keep up the good work
I am a 78 year old lady who enjoys listening to your videos. It's great that you are out to educate young men about being gentlemen. Bravo! I do wish to differ about hats, though. Stylish fedoras are always in style. They can make men look very sexy and I'm sorry they are not generally in style anymore. I live in a hot weather country and occasionally I see men in straw fedoras. If a man has the type of head that wears a hat well, it can be a chick magnet, so I wouldn't rule that type of hat out. But, please, no baseball caps, especially worn backwards or sideways. To me that spells, Super Jerk. I feel like I'm crying in the dark when I go on the defense of fedoras... but, gentlemen, do consider it! -- Thanks for your excellent videos, James! Wishing you great success with them!
You'll be delighted madam, to learn that I have now ordered a new fedora. The old one from Austin Reeds a lady friend once gave me will be restricted to when gardening!
I have an extensive collection of suits of which only a select few I can wear due to recent weight gain. I’m turning 60 this year. Fulfilling the need (or want) for more suits in my current size, I explored eBay. Most of the suits that are listed are by people who have worn them only a few times and are in like new condition. I have been able to pick up really great looking Ralph Lauren, Hart Schaffner & Marx, and Brooks Brothers suits for under $100 with just a couple needing minor alterations. My wife’s favorite of my suits now is a Glen Plaid Ralph Lauren that fits like it was tailored for me. Thought I would share in case others find themselves in the same boat. Thank you for these videos. I enjoy every one.

I also am more comfortable with people such as we, thus a connection is formed. My early years were influential - attending a quality Catholic grade school, after which, the Jesuit founded (1869) Canisius High School, Buffalo, NY. Another reason I enjoy your videos, and sad it is - gentlemen and ladies are not as prevalent. Such is why I fully enjoy the Classic movies, which along with your videos are a respit from the boorish that awaits me when I cross my front door stoop into a classless society, So, carry on, all around your videos are fantastic, and importantly indeed, you're doing a much needed service not only for men, but also for women directly and indirectly. Post Script : I believe Courage - the now rarest of the important traits of mankind - will be a wonderful topic someday for a video. I imagine that it would take some preparation, but what worthwhile doesn't ? Cheers to you and your audience.
A clean interior is so much more important to me than the type of car. I recently went to lunch with my younger brother who had to spend time cleaning out his passenger seat before we could leave.

Mercedes W116, W124, and W128 body types are a little on the older side, but have a stellar reputation for reliability. They are getting more expensive though.
My first vehicle was a charcoal grey 2008 Mazda 3 sedan with a sunroof and manual transmission. The colour was neutral, the car was always kept clean and tidy, and wearing a suit to work each day while shifting gears made it feel to me like a truly classy ride. I think in part, the man can make the vehicle a gentlemanly ride by keeping it tidy and also opting for a stick shift in my opinion, definitely helps.

In England you can get a good example DB9 from a specialist with warranty for under £30,000. As for Alfas they've been reliable since the turn of the century but many still think of the past! Both the 156 and 147 won the European Car of the Year. I've had two 156's. My current 156 2.4 JTD was bought for £900 in 2018 and has been my daily and long distance car since without much trouble!
Hi James, have been watching your channel since you started it. Congratulations for your success! While I rarely write comments on TH-cam channels, I just wanted to write to show my appreciation for such minor details that we, as gentleman, sometimes we don't notice, but only through experience by looking at other gentlemen and practice them. You said you would probably be returning to your home-country in due time, and if you have the opportunity to organise an in-person meeting in London as you did in Chicago, I would love to be there and meet, as well as networking, with some of the gentlemen. I am from Portugal, but currently residing, studying and working in Swansea, Wales, and so I think 4 hours to London Paddington will not be a thing for me. Great video and all the best in your future endeavours Gent Z!
Most classic British or German cars from the 60’s 70’s and 80’s are the best cars. I don’t think modern cars can be gentlemanly because a lot of them are automatic and they all have pointless gadgets and sensors on them. A Daimler or a Wolseley 16/60 is a good gentlemanly car. I have a 1970 600bhp fully mechanical diesel Mercedes w109 and a bmw e28 and a vw mk2 jetta, these are fun to drive and have little to no electrics to worry about breaking
To add: One way to ruin your gentlemanly image is a messy or smelly car. It's not a great look when you offer someone a ride but they first need to clear all the stuff off the seat before they can sit. Even worse: trash on the floor. Keep your car looking and smelling clean always. (Same goes for your home and for your desk at work)
Yep! I drive a Chevy Cruze. Not the most fancy car, but it’s much nicer than the old 2007 car I used to daily drive. I try to keep it clean and smelling good. When I travel I especially like to get it clean and make sure I don’t come home with a messy car. It’s pretty fun for me, staying best and organized when I’m out and about.
And I’d say this goes for everyone in general. I remember there was this girl at work whom I found pretty attractive. One day we went out for lunch together and her car was a gross mess, with trash everywhere. It definitely soured my opinion of her a bit
Very interesting as always, and very thoughtful and balanced answers! As an unabashed "car guy" (albeit an old one....59), I have an opinion. A year ago I picked up a 2007 Aston Martin Vantage, with only about 34k miles. These are truly exotic, handmade, drop-dead gorgeous cars, and you can pick up nice ones for under $50k. They're actually pretty reliable too, especially from this era when A.M. was owned by Ford. Keep up the great content Gent Z!
Congratulations for this channel, James! I’m very happy to know that the world still has young men like you. Also I want you to know that I’m learning a lot with your videos. Thank you and a big friendly hug of your viewer from Brazil!
I found being an American ex-patriot living in the UK in the 80’s, silence, acute listening and a measured response goes a long way. It got me invited to some of the best events and places.
I like this video a lot! There’s so much I could say here because you mentioned a lot of interesting things. For me I got interested in being a “gentleman” also because of clothes. I loved how I felt in nice clothes as a kid and I too would dress up a notch above my peers in college at times. Now I dress up more. I love watching old videos of cities from USA 1950s or so and I like how well everyone seemed to dress, how clean the cars were, and how polite people seemed to be. In my own way I try to bring that to the world when I go out in public.
One of the silent gentlemen subscribers. Love an old Alfa. Been looking for a v6 164. Just a classic. But where I live in the Falklands means I have to drive a 4x4. Currently that is a Discovery 4. You can tell I like cars that have known issues. Great to see this channel growing. Congratulations on the success.
Thanks for answering my question! Definitely more of a car guy but I appreciate the voice of reason telling me not to get an old Alfa Romeo, what were the issues with your xk and what car do you drive now?
There are cars that are extremely reliable despite their age. Most Japanese cars will do the trick. I drive an '05 Miata and it's a dream. I've finally decided to go for a 1991-1993 Cadillac Coupe Deville for my next car.
Congratulations on the success of your channel! You're correct, Jaguar, Alfa and Mercedes (include BMW in that list) all start to become money pits at about 10 years old. Lexus also has other models than the ES, if one wants something more sporty then the IS350 is the ticket, or for something larger and more stately the GS350 like mine. They will run well past the 200,000 mile mark if kept maintained, but those two have more preformance-oriented engines that require premium fuel. The ES runs on regular, that could be a factor the way gas prices are nowadays. The Infiniti Q series with the twin-turbocharged V6 looks and runs great also, but bear in mind that the turbos could cause issues as they get older, and Nissan and Infiniti's quality has been slipping of late.
Great video, James. I watch all of your videos and really enjoy the calming, relaxing nature of them. I think you could create a Skool community for a small monthly cost of $5 - $10. A free Discord is a good idea, but as the channel grows it will inevitably descend into chaos and die out. A paid community with weekly meetings, advice, live streams would be great. You could go through where you get your clothes from, tips, interviews with tailors, businessmen, and other TH-camrs who are similar to you. If we're paying for the community, we're more likely to value it and savour the experience. Keep it up and congrats on 65k!
As an American, I am apalled at the way I see men and women dressing day to day. I give you a lot of credit for explaing the need to present yourself well. Respect for others begins with awareness and respect for ourselves. I think that we need dress codes so ordinary people can begin to wake themselves up. I was in a dentist office in the waiting room for one and one half hours. The lack of respect for my time, the cell phone conversations that everyone could hear, the skin tight yoga pants almost made me sick. I see the same kinds of disrespectful things in the local geocery stores. Didn't Rodney Dangerfield talk about no respect? All I can do about it is be an example of kindness, patience, respect and good grooming. Thank you for your efforts to "save America".
One thing we don’t want to let ourselves become is judgmental, cynical and bitter about the people around us. This is not a healthy mindset nor a particularly gentlemanly perspective. Remember that everybody has different priorities, and for many people, just being comfortable is what they care about most. That’s OK. It doesn’t mean that they are bad people. All we can do is focus on ourselves. I like to think that by caring about my appearance, showing some grace and humility, and being kind to other people I’m modeling the kinds of behaviors I hope to see more of in society
Hi, I have three navy blazers, my golden buttons have engraved initials of my name, what do you think about having initials name engraved on buttons in a navy blazer?
As a female that enjoys your presentations, what are the qualities in a women you look for? As you have defined very well what and gentleman should encompass. However, are the standards and qualities that a woman seeking a refined gent should embody.
I’ve really been enjoying your channel since I discovered it a couple months ago. Congratulations on your success-well deserved. It was interesting to learn a little more about you here. I have to disagree on the hat topic. It’s important to protect yourself against the sun, plus a hat is just practical for keeping the sun out of your eyes and the rain off your head. I wore ball caps for many years but since I started trying to dress better and improve my style, I have switched to flat caps. I love the look and as I walk around I notice more and more men wearing them; they look way classier than a ball cap. I also have a light woven Trilby that is great for hot sunny days and looks very stylish. I don’t think hats are dead, they just had a bit of a setback.
Were the questions taken from previously uploaded videos on the channel ? Also, I would love to send an outfit or two in a future ,,outift reaction" video.
Gent Z one of the greatest modern Actor and Gentleman Bernard Hill has sadly past on . Please give a shout out especially his role as the Captain of the Titanic . RIP Yossa and Bernard
Well, you finally did a Q&A! Congatulations on the incredible success of your channel. I kind of zoned out during the car bit, though it was useful. I'm glad you didn't come down too hard on jewelry, particularly bracelets, because I enjoy wearing them. You don't watch sports either! I've never been a fan, I just don't have the interest. I've often thought they looked good on other men and wearing them lends me confidence. I can be wearing an outfit with an 85$ shirt I got on sale and expensive shoes and people will compliment the inexpensive bracelets. If you create a Discord I will be there, wild horses couldn't drag me away. I pretty much use social media to post my drawings, I'd love to do commissions one day, though that's way down the line. I very much enjoyed this, it was so relaxed and entertaining. I'm glad I discovered your channel and have stuck around, and I'm glad you not only continue to post but post so regularly. Cheers!
Firstly, may I say, I really enjoy your videos, you have excellent insight for a man of your age. To be honest, I would have instantly picked you as gay (not that there is anything wrong with that). Congratulations on very articulate content and advice.
Funny story: In 1976 my parents stuffed all six of us (4 kids + 2 parents) into my dad’s 911 to go car shopping. (Read into that what you will…) Salesman at one dealer came out to watch when we were leaving, saying he “had never seen a car stuffing contest in a Porsche…”
You once recommended your viewers drive a car such as a black Mercedes. You are from the UK. Should you have recommended Land Rover, Range Rover or Jaguar? M
Black or dark blue are the only correct colours for cars. In a European country, a gentleman drives a new, well-groomed VW Golf. Mercedes and BMWs are for wide boys. Japanese imports are for middle managers who are comfortable with their conformist status in life and who do not dream of another life. "Old money" will drive some beaten up old thing that they inherited from their grandparents because paying for the maintenance of their estate bleeds them dry. A young gentleman is always understated, hence the VW Golf.
Not every old luxury car is or becomes a lemon. The prior owners of these type of cars tend to take good care of their vehicles. I have a 2001 S series Mercedes convertible that I bought used when it was at 7 years old. I really haven't invested much in maintenance and still am driving it today. I do understand it's a summer car and hasn't seen rain, but most of these cars depreciate fast and become bargains.
You are a good presenter and are providing a useful service to all men who wish to be gentlemen. However, I disagree with your assessment of the fedora. In the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones, (Harrison Ford) is on the steps of a government building wearing a blue double breasted suit, and a gray fedora. In my opinion he looks very classy. (Check it out) I enjoy the old movies with Humphrey Bogart and others like him wearing a hat. For me it makes them look complete. Also a newsboy cap or flat cap can look good on a gentleman as well. A medical doctor once said people should wear wide brim hats and sun glasses to protect themselves from the sun, when out doors. I wear a fedora or flat hat in the winter as I am bald and need the protection then as well. Sometimes a baseball cap or sock cap just won't do. Also remember how pretty Princess Diana and Princess Kate looked in hats. Maybe ladies should consider hats as well. Thank you for making such good presentations I have learned a great deal. I am seventy years old and for me, being a gentleman has been a journey rather than a destination. I learn something new every day.
Great video! As for vehicles especially when you are younger dont go big and fancy. Get something that'll take no tine to pay off and cheap for maintenance. Keep it clean running good!! I dated lawyers when i was younger when i drove a 20 plus old truck, even a van at on point and 9 times out of 10 they asked to take my vehicle. 🤷♂️ One thing i disagree about is a good hat. They are in style always have and always will be. Just stay away for the baseball hat if you are trying to dress up at all! A quality fedora, flat cap even a cowboy hat will give your outfit/ look that extra touch. A quality hat will take confidence to wear at fisrt but will soon add to your confidence. The most important part is to learn & remember hat etiquette!! I definitely agree about social media. Its a brain drain and can back fire on you quickly. Even if you are joking it can be taking the wrong way years later and then you have to deal with it. 🤷♂️ Enjoyed the video, thank you again for your time. Cheers, beers and whiskey 🤠 🥃
One is born a gentleman. That said, I applaud you for promoting good taste, style, and, hopefully, manners. Also, all the cars you referenced are awful. Completely unreliable and expensive to repair.
James just doesn´t want to offend anybody I guess, but listening to gangster or hip hop music, is not a proper choice. Just think about it. This kind of music is not classical at all and it has often tendency to be negative, so no way it does match life of a gentleman. It is out of question, if you want to become a real gentleman and not some kind of hybrid. Gangters are bad people and no gentleman wants to be a gangster or other stupid morron. Speaking of classic music, jazz or piano kind of style is the way to go for example. Learn to listen to those, if you want to become high class gentleman without any compromise. Don´t want to offend anybody, but trust me, that my advice is wise. Living life of a gentleman means, that the whole culture matches this life, so nice clothing, nice music, nice behaviour, nice car, quality relationships and other stuff. I know, it is not easy for a lot of people, but I am just saying, what it takes to be an ultimate gentleman. Have a nice day James and all the others

It definitely soured my opinion of her a bit
in this video he sounds much politer almost like a child. I wonder why, Im a new subscriber btw
Wow, I‘ve been following you since you had maybe 5000 subscribers and you have grown so much in such a short time! Congratulations, you deserve it!
As gentleman good car choice
I would recommend new black Accord or TLX
Good used choice be a black Town Car that’s well kept
Congratulations for this channel, James!
I’m very happy to know that the world still has young men like you. Also I want you to know that I’m learning a lot with your videos.
Thank you and a big friendly hug of your viewer from Brazil!
I found being an American ex-patriot living in the UK in the 80’s, silence, acute listening and a measured response goes a long way. It got me invited to some of the best events and places.
Indeed. It’s great to have experience of both cultures. Sometimes it seems we share little more than a common language 😅
Jeff did you mean "expatriate" or truly "ex patriot"?
No judgement either way. Just respectfully asking.
@@sammajor2075 The former, as you say. Thank you.
@@jeffreydaniels7519
You are welcome. Thank you for responding.
If you’re ever in Tampa, Fl or even Miami, I’d go to an event!
The way your gaining subscribers you'll get your 100k plaque before Xmas. Bravo!
I do hope so, thank you!
cheers for all the useful content you provide good sir
Been watching u since the first video. Good work keep it up👌
Thank you for your support

Thank you James.
Low bodycount
You said you whent from 140to220lbs in 8 months was that intentional and did you deside to keep it on
Yes it was intentional. I intentionally cut down to 180 from there. Currently doing smaller phases of bulking and cutting
Thanks I would like a video on this before and after and your goals in doing it@@Gent.Z
You should consider a joint posting with Gentlemen’s Gazette. Seriously. I’ll bet it would work for both of your sites.
Were the questions taken from previously uploaded videos on the channel ? Also, I would love to send an outfit or two in a future ,,outift reaction" video.
I would live to meet you when you come to Europe.
Okay so no, you did not overdo it on those home decor reviews. NO! They were perfect. You must do more!
more bachelor pads, it's not a trend on youtube so few content about it. I miss MTV Room Raiders 😂
Cheers!
Thanks Jeremiah! Hoping to launch the discord in the next month or two
You should do a meet up in Atlanta!
Firstly, may I say, I really enjoy your videos, you have excellent insight for a man of your age. To be honest, I would have instantly picked you as gay (not that there is anything wrong with that). Congratulations on very articulate content and advice.
Famous Seinfeld line here 😀
Funny story: In 1976 my parents stuffed all six of us (4 kids + 2 parents) into my dad’s 911 to go car shopping. (Read into that what you will…) Salesman at one dealer came out to watch when we were leaving, saying he “had never seen a car stuffing contest in a Porsche…”
👏👏👏
Never buy a used Jaguar. I owned one, and it was beautiful, but a money pit. I owned a Miata. Best car ever, if you don't need a lot of room.
In London you should met up with Ash from The Chap's Guide.
did this guy just say he's 28 years old born in 1996? there's NO WAY, he's gotta be at least 35, he looks it.

One thing i disagree about is a good hat.
Enjoyed the video, thank you again for your time.
Cheers, beers and whiskey 🤠 🥃
One is born a gentleman. That said, I applaud you for promoting good taste, style, and, hopefully, manners. Also, all the cars you referenced are awful. Completely unreliable and expensive to repair.
Is it gentlemanly to drink alcoholic beverages and be unshaved when doing a l video about such?
Can men wear makeup?
How about LA?
A manual Porsche, Alfa Romeo or Lancia is the peak of style and beauty
Who broke it off, you or Augustina? Congrats on ur success
Come on you Gunners!
Question: why did your girlfriend leave you? she was such a joy to have on the program. why didn't she want to be with you anymore?
