Mini led TV doesn't need a darker room, last longer. Even though oled has better viewing angle, but who really watch from a 120° angle. Even the idea of a curved flat TV is not very useful other than a conversation piece. You still miss the view when you pass the curve.

Are the LGs MLA true oleds? I am finding that the a95k has a blooming and weaker black levels than my previous sets. I think it's because of the QD technology but I don't know what MLA is or if it's similar to QLED.

    • @bpowick
      @bpowick 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

MLA stands for Micro Lens Array. It's basically a layer of very tiny half domes (lenses basically) that recapture outward going light from the screen that would usually just scatter and be 'lost'. I'm not sure of the specifics but it basically means they can use that captured light to make the screen brighter and more vibrant. An OLED, no matter what panel type, definitely shouldn't be blooming so if it is maybe it's faulty or has a calibration issue?

A good mid range TV these days can do 1000 nits + and get great contrast with local dimming.. The main problem I find is the lack of 4k content in general and even more rare is HDR content.. For me I find my TV looks great in with HDR content but 480p content is still 480p content. It's watchable but just doesn't compare to HDR.. The burn-in isn't something that "could technically happen". It WILL happen, inevitably. It's part of what OLED is by design. Only question is "when?" Sure, new tricks buy more time, pushing the problem beyond the warranty period, but thats as far as it goes. Saying otherwise is wishful thinking. Some people might say there's no VISIBLE burn-in on the newest panels: sure, because it's hidden by diminishing the state of all neightbouring pixels, basically "burning" the whole screen to level with the worst parts. Which in return brings visible banding to the table, and it's not good either. So... miniLED is the way to go if you want the screen to last. That is until microLED comes into play eventually.

In theory, issues with current mini-LED displays should be solvable if mini-LEDs can work as both area switchable thing which is great for great contrast in pictures, or in alternative mode when all mini-LEDs could be always on as on classic LED IPS display, so you trade a bit of contrast and power efficiency for fast response in games and movies without ghosting and high contrast edge bloom in fast-changing scenes...

The first flat panel TVs were monitors (no tuners) in the late 1990s and they were plasmas, extremely expensive and most had a shiny screen that also meant that they had to be used in a darkened room with no reflected light sources in line with the TV. Then came LCDs that were much brighter, lower cost, and more practical for the average home but they had picture problems, including both vertical and horizontal angle of view and motion and pixel blurring. I and my friend have both the first and last Panasonic plasmas and he also has today's top model LG OLED and we both think that overall the plasmas still have superior picture quality, especially in terms of color. Of course, they don't have HDR but most content sources do not have HDR, including for the "Next Generation" (ATSC 3) over-the-air antenna TV that is the least compressed compared to cable and satellite TV. I am still using my 42" 2005 Panasonic plasma but with still the gold standard of TV recorders, the last four generation/models of the OTA capable TiVos. Streaming is still best done with dedicated devices like Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, etc.

I have an old Panasonic plasma and the contrast and vibrancy is excellent for such an old TV.
But it does have some burn-in which kind of sucks but it's not always noticeable.
Still, my OLED is the best display I've ever laid my eyes on. OLED right now beats every other tech by a mile. Hopefully my OLED doesn't get any burn-in.

That’s such GRANDPA tech tho Plasma is veyr dated now. U might seek diff tv . Like QD-OLED . 😊 there ppl hold onto like most PREMIUM Cadillac from the 1990s luxry. I know exactly d “holding onto d “ strip down having nothing advanced on it elite gadget means to a lot of ppl.

WElcome to CHECK this panel --since U thought Plasma is MOST elite panel .
Look it up” SHARP AQUOS QUATRUM-BACK LIT LED” --it was d one destroyed Plasma.
Plasma is VERY dim. Peak about 200-300 nits. It’s almost unwatchable during day time.
But LCD is Bright but blooming issues(back in d day)
In 2009-2012 -Japanese SHARP AQuos (Aquos is their Made in Japan 🇯🇵 premium) had invented -2 Layer TV. --Back lit LED.
It had Back layer panel handle Brightness--HIGH color Volume,
      Front panel control black.
So d TV can OPENLY SPIKE peak brightness 🔆 have Extremely high Color VOLUME = at same time. To result d MOST rich/vibrant color. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yet has insane black control of true black.---thats d MOTHER concept of --QLED/ULED technology in all MINI LED . 🎉hello ,plasma friend. It existed in 2009 . It was d BOMB in CES . Worn NO1 at CES 3 yr in a row. N destroyed Plasma n LCD. I had d newer version of that panel in 2011. -that panel could produce images look better steaming 1080P live cable tv than TVs made in 2017 2018..
      🎉🎉🎉🎉
MOST ppl did NOT know that SHARP- Aquos panels produced 100% of SONY/LG/Samsung’s Flagship LED 🎉for at least 2 yrs. That SONY, LG , Samsung selling their Flagship 60” at $5000 but they r just SHARP Aquos TV made in -Japan. Which solidified the LED as d “pre OLED” king 🤴 of TV status.
N at same time ppl did NOT even know that d Next level up SHARP had MORE premium panel saved in -HOSUE .
It’s called Quatrum panel. Qua means 4. Sony, LG, Samsung all tv colors are blended by 3 colors red green, blue.
Quatrum invented 4th sub pixel -True yellow 😮😮😮😮 with pattern. In Latin Qua means 4.
Since Quatrum 2 panel back lit 🔥 LED already had achieved Peak brightness 🔆 now it OPENLY produce d MOST high color volume(u need rich color volume to look vibrant for bright Tv other wise will look FLAT like OLED , pestle on scene like forest/ocean/sand/sunset, grass…..)😮, because it no longer having to worry d 3 color blending . That u adjust 1 shade tinny bit it affects EVERY shade, n all in between shades. All images are Mostly made by IN-between shades.
All TV enthusiastically will “wow that’s legendary TV” 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 that was on every tech news that destroy PLASMA. Cuz d utter advantage of control of blooming is I relevant when there 2 Panels layers together. N SHARP-Aquos, Quatrum panel had EVERYTHING. And due to extra sub pixels, at time it could produce 16 million extra pixel/colors. U could watch all 1080P live stream cable in 2-3k visual. It’s utter insane the viewing experience. I had gone thru 2 of those panels. Even in 2017, an 2011-2012 Sharp Aquos $4000 Quatrum LED tV would still better performing 2017 SONY flagship LED.
Yeah So PPL thought they bought high end SONY/LG 3D LED , $5000 panel. they didnt know they could HAVE bought BETTER panel back in the day. As Big3 brands were BUYING time. They all SET up factory in Mexico 🇲🇽 MakING CHEAP LED panels. But SHARP -TV. Holds so much TEchNOLOGY pattern. That SONY,LG had to Design their own LED, which looked like Dog 🐕 sh*t. --but they still charged $3000-5000 for their Flagship LED , d same price when they used to use SHARP Aquos panel. To fool ppl to Beleive -its BEST n premium.
That’s how they predetorial ruin the Later reputation of LED>
LED was d KING of TV utter shutter Plasma. Due to predetorial practice that SONY, LG, Samsung all pay $3-2 million to Bestbuy a yr to “suggest their brand” first when ppl asking for Flagship panel. Sharp left USA, n sold theri TV line to Hisense, which they bought it back. Samsung took the 2 layer tv idea n develop now we call QLED .
So once Big 3 were producing over priced LED made in Mexico , ppl started hating it, cuz it did NOT look Ike what they “heard” LED suppose to look like. N when they need UPGRADe. They could nOt find anything better but OLED. Once OLED was “let me resolve this issue” , SONY/LG even in chohoots made their LED WORSE. To promote OLED. Because in business school. “Present an Issue, giving solution, promote as higher tech, ppl will fluster to ASK for d faked Higher Tech , pay 2X price” its like ppl were willing to pay BlackBerry as they were promoting as encrypted. But it only lasted when IPhone did not exist before iPhone was able to do encryption for corporate phone.
Now all MINI LED- are all QLED technology. All MINI LED have 2 layer panels.
U MIGH want to look into get rid of that Plasma cuz u will be utter shocked how technology had been advanced. OLED is becoming d OLD blackberry, more n more ppl are switching to MINI LED or QD-OLED>. Cuz once u use it, u CAN NEVER go BACK :O) 🎉

It's best to format those movies at 28% zoom height to fill the screen and crop at 10% so the movie doesn't look squeezed. Leave that for your custom aspect ratio for those scope movies. 1.85:1 ratio movies almost fill up the screen so those are not bad. 2- Costs.. 120Hz 4K mid-range TVs costs like $600 - $1200 .. while IPhone products are expensive.. so yeah, U can't compare high end phone with like mid range TVs..
Yes.. Quality high-end Mini-LED / Q-LED will slightly better, but even then.. they won't pay High R&D & high Hardware costs for just
Also.. 25-kg TV already cost high to produce & ship, unlike small 0.2-kg phones Lol.. that's why TVs always try to cut corners to get higher cheaper productions costs (plus majority of people care less for TVs quality compared to phones)

Just bought 77 inch S95C, an upgrade from my 7 year old 65 inch LG B7 and the brightness difference is astonishing. When I turn on game mode I had to decrease the brightness, it is that high. OLED TV's improved so much over the years. Also using Samsung Neo G8 OLED monitor, never regretted it. The colors and contrast is so amazing. Every panel has a lifespan, be it OLED or LED doesn't matter, they are gonna die. If I can use a panel for a solid 5-7 years, that is enough for me. You will want to buy new technology anyway. Like when the micro led costs go downs, everyone will want one.

I went with a 55" Samsung Ark gen 2. 165hz, 1 ms latency, 4k quantum mini-led curved computer monitor. I always have static images on my display, and I very rarely turn my computer off... so mini led is the choice for my use case.

Ppl used to have MINI LED. I mean the Flagship MINI LEDS ,,,think OLED is TRASH. Utter dim , low COLOR Volume, LAME server black crushing. Those are MAJOR MAJOR flaws.
The ppl LOVE OLED n NEVER HAD PREMIUM MINI LED< they will make fun of MINI LED as if MINI LED is inferior(in their mind) like how FORD Truck drivers will MOCK Luxury Tesla suvs like no tomorrow.
So they will never be able to convince one or another. But d Interaction between tech nerds Bickerying, shows their openness or Smal Mindedness to able to communicate. There are a LOT of Vulnerable Narcissit anti social ppl will USE “TECH” as tool to 1 UP d other to feel smart. Thoes are d PPL utterly NOT excited to be enlightened even it can benefits them or their own family for better viewing/buying experience for their own hard earned money.😅 cuz for them be able to HOLD their “perception” means if they are smart or NOT smart. Literally thats like TV is attached to their own self worth. 😮

OLED will be better as it progresses and cheapens but for now absolutely stick to mini led as your more mid range goal as you'll get a bigger TV for half the price and be extremely happy with it. The compression and data streaming is a problem anyway, if you buy an expensive OLED most times you won't get the true power of it. Don't buy one!! Get the mini led and save half the price for the bigger TV that will deliver for now.

Why are companies still selling 1080p TVs in 2023?. 4k should be a standard across the board.

It's all about use case!! I have an OLED in my bedroom. I do not want it bright. I would NEVER put a Mini-LED in my bedroom. LED bleeds too much and I like a dim picture in the bedroom. Mini-LED would be good in the Living Room.

It's oled for the simple fact has the lowest motion blur and input lag nothing comes close! Fast action or video games are going to show without a doubt oled/woled/qd-oled is king of kings
Another point why mini led is dead on arrival for pc monitors and that super brightness for these mini led are going to be bad for your eyes for long term use. We already have issues with standard quantum dot led or led and the blue light they put off, now double or triple that brightness and watch the strain on your eyes thus causing long term use issues maybe even causing permanent damage to your eyes. As someone who already has permanent eye damage from CRT monitors, this is opening up class action suits, IMO.
One major flaw of oled though is this burn in issue that can be similair to plasma tv also dead tech for this reason supposedly qd-oled reduces this issue significantly at least on paper wont know until a lot more people use and abuse these displays to truly know this long term issue. But as someone who replaces displays tv and monitors every 3 years as tech changes so rapidly I don't mind lcd led has this issue to just takes longer.

Not going to lie is it deliberate that you skipped over window to TV placement? Because I bought an OLED in 2021 and had to return it as it turned out to be a very expensive black mirror, my TV is mounted opposite a south facing window (northern hemisphere) and it was just glare and reflection of outside... Went to a Samsung QLED and again could now see the picture despite being in a bright room... Buying the OLED was one of the worst purchasing experiences as the whole returns process as a nightmare is I'd already crushed the box before, because it was meant to be amazing picture quality and have an anti glare coating so I wasn't expecting the issues with a premium TV but it was awful

I prefer miniLED but as stated good OLEDs have dropped a lot in price and the tech has advanced to make up the gap in quality and longevity. So, its a preference but I would not say miniLED is better, just I prefer the colours and brightness. Win-win really nowdays.

Mini LED LCD has inferior colors.
Mini LED LCD TV's win in brightness.
OLED smartphones have high brightness just like Mini LED LCD TV's.
Mini LED LCD has garbage blooming. 🤮🤮🤮
