I find it amazing just how differently they do the male vs female scenes. Female alear collapsed onto her side, while the male Alear collapsed onto his back.
Female Alear's VA does something kinda interesting for the past cutscenes (I dunno if male Alear is any different). She puts on this emotionless tone when Alear is still with Sombron and for this one she puts on this squeaky child-like voice. Probably to show how far back it takes place and making Alear seem just a child looking for her mother's approval. The delivery of "I wanted to be a good dragon" hurt me a lil inside, even if it is a lil corny, the way she says it just cuts deep. Props to all the VAs in this game. the voice work was top notch.

It's almost disappointing that crazy face Alear ended up being a red herring and they don't act like that at all in the past. They instead ended up being very precious and must be protected.
The way that I translated it in my head, Alear remembered the feeling of happiness and joy in a place that reeked of death (basically from killing her dad). @@nuibaba280 except it doesn't. The story is nonsensical, full of plot holes and bad writing, also 99% of the characters are just simps of alear with no personality or character growth, sorry, troll, you tried
Honestly, this scene makes Lumera's death a lot more bitter, because yeah, it follows the usual parent sacrifices themselves to protect their child from a lethal blow, but this makes it make even more sense, like, they already saw them die once, and it was heartbreaking to them, which is a fresh change to that usual formula. To think about losing them again, it really must have been an awful thought. It makes her sacrifice hurt a lot more. Even if I don't like some of the things they did with the story, I feel past alear's dead inside personality really sells how abusive sombron was, and also, the change once they meet Lumera, it's quite an interesting change, and wish it was developed further, maybe with a chapter where you control past alear, maybe a chapter with Lumera, where she starts teaching them not to repress themselves and purifies marth's dark emblem, so he could act as some sort of protector (and would also make the "I waited hundreds of years for you to wake up" be even more heartbreaking, because they saw them die, and yet waited at their side, because they cared after seeing they had the chance to be a good person, and felt bad for their efforts to be cut short because of Sombron's literal backstab)

The Fell and the Divine 1 I really love the atmosphere going into the flashback with Fell Alear seemingly defeating Sombron. Memories from Red Days is the song playing and I love the mysterious and creepy vibes that come from it (similar to the Corrupted theme). The creepy vibes show with Alear even with us knowing the full truth as the Alear of old stares down Sombron with lifeless eyes. It kind of brings back Corrin’s line from Conquest: “You want to see me act more like you? Like a merciless killer?” It kind of brings me back to Alear back in Chapter 5 (the manga especially) where Alear makes it clear they are out for blood. We could really see what Alear could have become if Lumera didn’t guide them down a better path like a real parent would. As for Alear ultimately getting shot in the back, I didn’t mind it. If I was Alear in this moment, swinging with all my strength to deal the final blow, I would have believed Sombron would be dead in that moment too. Plus there’s no way they were going to have Alear go for the head due to age rating in Japan. So yeah… As for the Alear’s “baby” talk in wanting to be a “good dragon.” I don’t mind. I didn’t mind back then with the “Pinky Promise,” and didn’t mind it here. I highly doubt Alear had the mental and emotional age to not word it like that. That and they don’t get the chance to experience a healthy relationship with a parent for too long anyhow. One of the big things about that I love about this moment is that makes Lumera’s death even more of a tragedy, especially with Chapter 24 in mind. Lumera, was also all alone and had no one just as Alear did. If Alear is pretty much Tiki but as a lord, then Lumera is Marth but as a dragon. Lumera is basically Marth if he lost all of his friends and had no one put Tiki left. That’s how I describe Alear and Lumera’s relationship. Alear’s last words hit like a truck in both a sad, but also heartwarming roundabout way at the end of this chapter. Fell Alear: “maybe I'll return. dressed in white..a gleaming sword at my side… A Divine Dragon, like you... Ready to save the world.” (Dies, leaving Lumera in grief)
It killed me too. And Fell Alear’s final words before dying… it’s sad but heartwarming in a way knowing by the end of this chapter, Alear’s wish will be realized.
I’m grabbing the tissues. Alear actually DID return. Exactly as she wanted to. She was dressed in white, a divine dragon like Lumera, and with the gleaming sword liberation at her side. But the day she did, they were separated again because Lumera died!
I wonder why Alear didn’t check to make sure Sombron was completely dead before seeing Lumera. If she did, he would’ve been put down for good, and she wouldn’t have to go through a millennia-long revival sleep.
At least she wasn’t a drunken office worker unwittingly wishing that he was a short girl, like Laura Stahl’s character from Total Fantasy Knockout, Tachibana!
