Pretty much how I felt about it. It's a really solid general futurama episode that could slot into any classic season and fill it up nicely. Not one of the all-time classics, but the stuff you need to surround the one or two spectacular conceptual episodes that made the golden age of this show great.
8:34 seems like an obvious Lord of the Rings reference (FYI I never read the books I just watch the movies) (Also I never got to Return of the King I've only seen The Fellowship of the Ring)
Oh damn, you're right, honestly my brain kept thinking they were "one eyed purple paper eaters" since they only had one eye too 😅 glad my laugh is infectious though 🙂
I included Hermes mentioning the Barnzen Nobula, but I didn't mention it since the joke is a little more obvious than the Dalton-B one, with that one I was like "hmm Dalton-B has to be something..."
So far! Hopefully we get some more I think All The Way Down was great for sure (I did a review of it as well) but it was still missing a little special sauce that makes a truly phenomenal Futurama episode, it was also missing a little from Quids Game too, even though both episodes are very ambitious and well done
This one was definitely the best of the three so far. There was a lot of the old humour in it, and the absurdism made it work. And lets be honest... that is really what temping is really like...
I could tell the main reason I liked it was they leaned heavy on the Star Trek formula. There were a lot of nods to the episode being structured like that, the audio stings early in the episode whenever a scene ends on Frank. Tapping into the same creative source as Orville and Lower Decks is effective for a watchable episode so I was happy with it but I don't know if pulling that every time still leaves any Futurama left besides delivering everything with an adult animated snark.
I think it still felt like Futurama to me with the jokes and the relationships between the characters. I totally agree bringing back the Star Trek parody elements which were more common in older episodes was a good choice, but also that they can't rely on it every episode. I didn't mention it in the video, but I thought it was cute that in the captions they referred to that little opening score during Leela's log as "Star Trek-esque music" 😅
My favorite thing is the implication that the Omicronians are Space Jews, because of the glass bottle throwing. They really didn’t *have* to throw that all in, but it’s kind of neat.
This is just a theory but Frank trying to replace Fry is clearly a paralleling and foreshadowing the Fry from universe 1, will try takeover universe A Fry’s life, since I did notice in the last episode of S12 that when Fry has been getting his headaches and we do see black haired Fry in those past flashbacks. Futurama might be having their own Miguel O’Hara from Across the Spider Verse.
If limited to novels, when I was much younger one would be an 'erotic' book. But something that provides passages with good feelings, like To Kill a Mockingbird. The knothole, the carved soap dolls and Jem's face that looked like there were dried tears on it. A Michener book like Tales of the South Pacific or The Drifters that made a great impression when I was in college. A war book like Porkchop Hill or perhaps One Bugle, No Drums: The Marines at Chosin Reservoir with the passage of the little girl with the pageboy hair cut that looked like the author's sister in the crowd of refugees. Life was not fair. Sounds like a sad episode, stranding Frank again. Thank you.
@@renrants I noticed that as I aged, I understood more and more of To Kill a mockingbird. I gave away my copy to a student about 10 years ago, so haven’t read it since. Thank you.
@gmatgmat hopefully it shouldn't be too hard to find a new copy if you ever want to revisit it! It's amazing how our understanding and connection with the same story can change throughout our lives
7:19 that seems strikingly out of character for Leela should she be worried about Fry and not make up dumb excuses not to be with him and living with her parents for 6 weeks
But she doesn't have a reason to worry about Fry, in her conscious mind, Fry is here and everything is fine, it's only subconsciously that she's aware something is wrong and she isn't sure what it is, it's just a gut feeling, so she avoids Frank because she knows something isn't right, but there's nothing for her to confront him about or anything
3:16 and yet that Frank guys sounds a lot like one of the characters from BrickleBerry that GOD Awful Adult Cartoon from Comedy Central that tries to be like Family Guy in the woods and Fails at it it's so un-funny and Stupid I'd encourage you NOT to watch it plus it had a terrible ending

Yeah, I think that's definitely fair!
it's definitely the best episode of the season so far
2:25 I'd knew it be a callback to Amazon Woman in the Mood from the early seasons of Futurama
there's something so delightly goofy and relatable in forgetting a coworker's entire existence for decades straight
Definitely! the forgettable Frank gags absolutely made me cackle 🤣
they're definitely back on track with Great episodes in the Hulu revival of Futurama
1:13 even from there cole opening I was like Who the Hell is that? and whatever happend to Fry?
8:34 seems like an obvious Lord of the Rings reference (FYI I never read the books I just watch the movies) (Also I never got to Return of the King I've only seen The Fellowship of the Ring)
Good review! Mid-tier by classic standards, pretty good by Hulurama standards is a great way to sum it up.
And truthfully, Futurama is like pizza, even bad Futurama is still good enough I'll watch it even if it's nowhere near as enjoyable as good Futurama 😅
Loved that, you laughing makes me laugh! 😄 By the way they're 'Flying Purple Paper Eaters', and the planet is in the Barnzen Nobula! 😄

Definitely my favorite of this season (and last season) so far.
It's really good!! I think it's actually my favorite too even if it wasn't as high concept as last week's
This season yes, but 'All The Way Down' is clearly the best of the Hulu episodes, imho. 😁
So far! Hopefully we get some more

I think I enjoyed it the most out of the three even if the second one was technically more ambitious 😅
Agreed, the jokes were funnier and the plot was more intriguing.
this may be the funniest episode of the season so far
I think so too! So many of the jokes made me laugh
Two books? I guess something explaining how to create an interstellar distress beacon out of books and fly larvae...
4:20 and yet No Wonder People don't read any more I'm they still do it's they use Audio books
I do love a good audio book, but personally I also read lots of ebooks too 😅

I really liked it too! :) that whole sequence was a lot of fun and added so many cool details about the Omicronians and their daily lives
@@renrants So I’m watching it again and it’s actually the skull-crushing analogue, but it’s still cool.
To me this is a classic good episode of futurama like 30% Iron Chef, 300 big boys, future stock and insane in the mainframe.

6:06 boy that must be disgusting of eating books
He's kinda like Rob from Gumball, nobody turned villain and abandoned on a planet like spinel.
I haven't seen Gumball, but I guess it's a trope now, haha
They reference the Horta, but not a single reference to Wrath of Khan anywhere in the Frank plot?
4:21 Its wrong, most people never heard of it since it was only in the US.
@@Elgi72 oh fair, I should have specified US Gen Xers
They’re definitely getting their mojo back.
It really feels like it for sure! :)
