Fry has always had stupid luck. Leela is well-rounded, and lacks in perception. Remember that they were married at the end of season 10, (a fact I hope they will elaborate soon,) so their personalities must be mixing.
Is it weird i kinda hope for a Fry and Leela break up episode thats based in the idea that Leela literally isn't herself anymore? (And they can get back together at the end) (Or better yet, they don't and the relationship slowly builds back up over the season, bc it's less interesting to have every episode end with the status quo returned)
Leela choosing not to get involved with the Bugilo problem could be the writing giving her a bit of a cynical arc? But I feel it’s because from an environmental standpoint, the situation is not that bad. Leela doesn’t mind eating animal so long as they aren’t intelligent, and as far as anyone is concerned Bugilo aren’t. They also aren’t endangered like the Muck Lech. In fact if people were eating them, the Bugilo would probably overpopulate Mars. Based on the size of their herds. Basically Leela found a gray area with tasty food in this episode
I think my issue is we don't see Leela say anything resembling that, and when Bender claims they can talk, she doesn't really seem interested in investigating that claim at all Leela eating the Buggalo legs definitely wasn't a problem on its own, as she also did that in Where the Buggalo roam, just the surrounding context makes it feel inconsistent to me
You make a great point. Not even just Leela, but this is 2/4 episodes this season that are pretty much Bender stories. I was calling for a Zoidberg story, but Leela certainly deserves it first
On the topic of bug intelligence, There's a Bug Zoo in my area and when I was there with a friend a few years ago the guide we had explained that praying mantises can remember and recognize faces! They can even remember if they've had a positive or negative experience with someone! The mantis she got out was even acting excited because it recognized the guide as one of the people that feeds them! It was really cool!
I believe it’s because, after a lifetime of scorn and social isolation, now that she has “interesting people” as friends, and a caring and understanding boyfriend, she can finally let herself go and enjoying whatever madness is thrown at her
This could have been comedically framed as Leela strungling between her interest in animal rights while also, really, _really_ liking eating meat, which might even be relatable to quite some people.
My minor gripe with this episode is the episode states that bugaboo form a hive mind when they a bunch of them are together. Why didn't they talk in the other episodes where there were mobs of them. It felt contrived.
The Bungalow are just big giant space bugs, and they are being bred by Amy's family, she seems more worried when it comes to natural habitats rather than manufactured ones
Maybe Leela doesn't like bugs or just was brought up to eat insects, after all she was a mutant living in a sewer in her childhood so it would track. She could be selective of the types of animals she protects and is not so animal activist as she was made out to be. It could just be the writers are trying to steer clear of creating another Lisa Simpson and felt there should be limits. To some this would make her seem more relatable. Though in truth it isn't the first time Matt has changed characters personalities.
She was actually raised in a orphanage, she didn't discover her parents until she was an adult, she grew up thinking she was an alien It does make sense to try to avoid the Lisa Problem, but Leela feels very messy at this point
@@renrants I agree, Matt has never been good at keeping a track record of his characters and when he brings in new writers there's a chance they forget a detail just like I did. The point I was trying to make was that she is a different species although some people actually do eat insects so it wouldn't be too far fetched. I do get she can have a gruff side to her, but I think they leaned too heavily into that. It could be she's losing empathy over her lifetime but, it's quite sudden.
I think Leela is in character. Some people are more attached to some animals than others. Amy was eating pork in this episode. Also because she is the voice of reason its funny when she occasionally says something callous. I also think that they were going for a bit of a "I can't be the voice of reason all the time gag." Like in the Teddy Bear episode of the Simpsons where Marge said "What can't I be greedy some times."
I could see that, I think it would be more effective if up to this point her characterization felt consistent with the way they used to write her, so for me it just felt like one in a long string of moments where Leela feels out-of-character
I think Leela's character proves someone can be carnivorous and empathetic towards animals. Much like the real world "bull runs", people run with the bulls to them a chance to escape their fate. When they reach the end of their journey, the bulls die fighting. The buggalo state they enjoy the festival, because it is made for them. Leela understands how this tradition honors livestock, so chooses to remain neutral. Also, she eats the meat out of the trash so every part of the animal is used.
when I'd first heard of the title of the episode I'd honestly thought it was going to be a Kiff and Amy love Story and Sadly it was a Buggalo fighting Bender theme episode which is Okay just a little too Preachy NOT Every Adult Cartoon needs a moral shoe horned into it it's NOT like South Park
it's it me or is the Comedy Central era and the Hulu revival it's like they made Leela a lot dumber and not in her activist role anymore which is odd seeing Leela act out of character this season in he Hulu revival
if you're looking for a Funny Adult Cartoon on Hulu with Wacky Alien Family hijinks with a wall subplot with people shrunken down and put into the wall then try Solar Opposites they've released there 5th season and it's really funny plus the new guy who voices Krovo sounds way better hen Roiland ever did
I think it's probably a message aimed at the extreme left: You being offended or having a problem is not other people's responsibility. I mean, the scene is literally Amy asking Leela to change how she lives an Leela being like "no, honey, that's _your_ issue." And continues to enjoy her meat. Maybe it is a contrast of character compared to earlier seasons, but I think this is what the writers are getting at here. Amy has one set of beliefs about the cattle and Leela does not share this same belief, and so is not obligated to share in Amy's frustration or fight. Had Amy stopped to consider her friends moral stand point before demanding support from Leela? Nope.
To be fair, she didn't ask Leela to stop eating meat, she asked if Leela was going to support the bug fighting which she viewed as animal cruelty, since Leela is someone who has been shown to care about animals it is weird and out of character that she doesn't care about animal cruelty at all
I just finished this episode and it is my absolute least favorite episode of Futurama ever. It feels so, so, so wrong. Season 11 and the rest of 12 felt meh, but not offensively bad. This episode just upset me, so bad.
it's weird how Leela was strikingly out of a character and they stripped her of her actitivest role
She really likes Bugalo meat
Is it just me or have the Comedy Central and Hulu Seasons made Fry a little more maturer and Leela a little more immature?
It does kind of feel that way at times
Fry has always had stupid luck. Leela is well-rounded, and lacks in perception. Remember that they were married at the end of season 10, (a fact I hope they will elaborate soon,) so their personalities must be mixing.
Here's hoping next episode is about how Leela got brain worms or is a doppelganger or something.

Honestly, I get it. I really miss the way they used to write Leela 😭
2:17 Still better then how Family Guy did the whole Running with the bulls thing
I stopped watching family guy a while ago so I don't really remember that, haha
@@renrants yeah but I'd sometime still watch Family Guy and it was in there later seasons
I totally believe you!

I would also love a Zoidberg story tbh
@renrants whoop whoop whoop etc. Lol
We got a Leela story this week. It was ok.
@@icecreamhero2375 It was enjoyable. IMO it's been a pretty solid mid-range 3 weeks in a row which is better than it could be!
I didn't love this week's episode, but it was okay 😅

That's amazing!! Bugs are so cool
It's a Shame we didn't get a Kiff and Amy Love Story it would have fit the title better
It would have been really cute for sure 🥺
I believe it’s because, after a lifetime of scorn and social isolation, now that she has “interesting people” as friends, and a caring and understanding boyfriend, she can finally let herself go and enjoying whatever madness is thrown at her
That's an interesting take
This could have been comedically framed as Leela strungling between her interest in animal rights while also, really, _really_ liking eating meat, which might even be relatable to quite some people.
Yeah, there's so many ways they could have given her a bit more to do and made it feel truer to her character, your idea is great
@@renrants It was even somewhat already established in the popplers' episode, so they didn't need to come up with much of anything.
Yeah, the contrast between the Poplers episode and this one kind of bugged me
Leela has been known to be thrifty with her morals. It's how Zapp was able to sleep with her.
My minor gripe with this episode is the episode states that bugaboo form a hive mind when they a bunch of them are together. Why didn't they talk in the other episodes where there were mobs of them. It felt contrived.
That's valid, it is a little strange they never revealed it before

Definitely
Yo I just finished 5th Episode. Hulu are cooking Leela😭😭
I watched it today as well and now I almost regret demanding a Leela episode 🤣
Oh no, spoilers!! I just watched this one.
Good review. Thank you.
Thank you :)
Idk about yall but I will fs fold quicker then paper if she said hi to me 😭
Hopefully next weeks episode will be more Leela centric focused
Did they mix up Leela and Fry's script maybe?
Sometimes if feels that way 🤣😭

Like I said you would be one the best for RP like huh your so pretty been stuck watching your TH-cam channel since earlier 😮💨
Yeah it's strikingly odd how out of character Leela is in the newer seasons to Futurama not even in her activist role anymore
I couldn't stand this episode, purely because of the end.
If it was a we want to continue, bit only two buggalo together...
I've just got back into binging through the Umbrella Academy on Netflix but Some how I'd hate to that show have a disappointing ending
Some people liked it, I was definitely not thrilled
