I think this might be the most interested a discovery premiere has made me in the story of the season so far. Maybe season 2 with teasing the original series characters.
Welcome back. Thank-you for your spoiler review. There are so many streaming teevee out there that I beyond my budget. I also like Nitpicking Nerd's reviews.
This was a great start to the new season. Especially since I haven't had new episodes to watch since SNW ended its second season last year. I don't watch Lower Decks for personal reasons due to the plotline between Tendi and Rutherford in the season 2 premiere. So I had a long wait for this premiere. I love Rayner. He was one of my favourite parts. But I love the interpersonal stuff with Stamets and Culber, Burnham and Book, and Saru and T'Rina. Speaking of T'Rina it's taken me this long to realize that if she were Human, her name would be Trina. If she were Human. Lol.
@@renrants Same. The funny thing is that one of my friends thought I was gonna hate Rayner, and made the character seem more like the more intense characters that we've seen on modern Star Trek shows more than once, but when I saw the first two episodes of the season, I had two thoughts: A) my friend sucks at describing characters, and B) they better not kill off Rayner because he's awesome! Lol.
As a STD hater the only reason I'd want to watch is to write stuff on Ren Rants comment section but unfortunately I just don't want to watch this show. Nope Nope Nope.
It's okay to not like Disco, not every Star Trek series, movie, etc. Will appeal to every fan (I hated Into Darkness and Disco still isn't my favorite Trek series by any means)
Discovery was my first trek so I had nothing to compare it to and thus I've only ever enjoyed it. Looking forward to a full rewatch when it ends for good
I was honestly a little stressed about it in the second episode when he decided to run out in front of the drones, I was so relieved when he made it back 🤣😭
Thank you. Discovery was a Trek more closely reflecting the current times that it was produced. Women like its FL had a more prominent roles in the story. I've not watched any episodes, but have followed it by watching reviews. Initially there was a push back and some reviewers didn't like it for what I now admit/see were the wrong reasons. Being Woke scared them, I think. Glad to follow your reviews. Thank you again.
I can proudly say I never had anything bad to say about Discovery for "Woke" reasons, it just took me awhile to adapt to a new style of storytelling :) more serialized vs the episodic storytelling I expected
@@renrants Woke is not bad. It is on the right side of many issues. Thank you. There were some resentment about New Trek that I'm ashamed to say influenced me. I continue to enjoy your reviews and what you say and think are very valued.
@gmatgmat definitely agree, it's just another way for people to avoid calling it what it actually is, which is empathy and inclusion which is what star trek has always been about ❤️ Thank you so much, that means a lot :)
Yeah, in that context I think it was mostly playful, like threatening to tickle your partner, VS like actually threatening to invade someone's thoughts 🤣 Kovich is just generally sketchy 👀👀 I think there's more to him
@@renrants 1&3 are my personal favorites. New Vegas was great though. Gotta ask, you definitely don't strike me as a legion fan, so House or NCR? (Enclave for me. God bless America... AND NOWHERE ELSE!! lol)
I did a play through of house and then one of NCR, you're right about legion, not for me, I feel bad enough leaving raider npcs lying around in their underwear 🤣 I couldn't get into 3, but wasted a lot of time on 4, although I didn't enjoy it enough to finish the main story
@johnhirose9608 it's so good! One of few games I didn't get bored with and actually played through the full storyline more than once, haha I think my favorite game is still The Witcher III, I spent almost 300 hours playing it 🤣
I'm kinda following a Cdrama, Blossoms in Adversity. A modern businesswoman is murdered by her jealous sister but finds herself in the body of a daughter of a concubine in the Hua Family. The patriarch is jailed on trumped up charges and he and all the males above ten are exiled to the North leaving the womenfolk scrabbling to survive with all possessions and wealth confiscated. She steps up to find ways to ensure that they can survive. She meets the man who is the agent of the Family's misfortune. But he is following orders. It's like falling in love with Robespierre. But their love is fated. The FL, Hua Zhi is intelligent, bold but sometimes vulnerable in her feelings. They don't write her as a male with a dress, which is good, I think. It might be interesting for you. Thank you. Sorry that this isn't about Trek.

A new Ren Rants Star Trek review was well worth the wait. Thanks, Ren!
Thanks for always tuning in :)

Yeah, I'm really optimistic for sure

Kovich will merge them with flies if they're not careful...

Rayner is so fun, I'm stoked to see how he develops over the season

@tgif1345 he's great, I'm really excited to see him and Burnham's dynamic get more established

MOTO SURF!
Damn, that's a deep cut...
Great start to an interesting season, with fun callbacks!
Discovery was my first trek so I had nothing to compare it to and thus I've only ever enjoyed it. Looking forward to a full rewatch when it ends for good
Honestly, it's kind of nice to go into a new installment of a franchise without any nostalgia baggage, I love when that happens!
I really hope they're not lining up a Saru death 😢 felt a bit too "only 2 days from retirement" in the way they're setting up his arc for this season.
I was honestly a little stressed about it in the second episode when he decided to run out in front of the drones, I was so relieved when he made it back 🤣😭
So I uh... procrastinated on watching this... and then completely forgot. I'm sorry!
That's okay! ❤️❤️

*Forced to mind meld* sounded rather rapey.
Never mind!
Saru wasn't upset.
Kovich seems to be Section 31 now.

You should review the fallout TV show when it comes out. :)
As a long time fan I'm curious what an outsiders perspective will be. It's out on the 12th
I'm excited for Fallout, but no outsider's perspective from me! I love New Vegas ❤️

I love Discovery. This is was one of the best starts to a Star Trek season. I love they are counting a story that started in TNG..
Totally agree, fantastic Premiere!
