I've been working with the Remarkable 2 for two months, but after that time I wanted more features for this tablet. So I decided to send it back and buy the Supernote. Thanks to your videos I think I made the right choice :)
I am doing the same. Got the Remarkable2 impulsively. Then after doing some research realized supernote sounds like a better fit, especially with the smaller size. I’m enjoying the Remarkable2, but looking forward to receiving the supernote for comparison.
Another well-designed and informative video. The discussion around your disciplined approach to crystallizing just what your requirements for an e-note tablet are, and to abide by those requirements (as opposed to being distracted by all the pretty features that are of low value to you) was a very helpful reminder of what is required to get to a final product decision. Bravo! The D&D template example gave me a smile....Gary Gygax would be glad to know that his product has gone where Remarkable has not (I'm guessing somewhere in Latin America)....still have fond memories of playing D&D myself...a long time ago :-).
My supernote was truly great. Loved it. But... getting older. Can't see quite as well. Lack of a backlight was a dealbreaker, finally had to get rid of it. I understand their reasons, I just don't have to like them. But if you're young, the supernote is pretty tough to beat.
Loved this review! :D I had been debating for quite some time whether to get an A5 or A6, and your suggestion of drawing the sizes out on paper and testing them was so simple yet SO MINDBLOWING that I couldn't believe that I hadn't thought of it lol So thank you very much, and I will be watching more of your videos when I buy it!!
I’ve used the remarkable 2 for over a year and decided to get a Supernote a5X. My personal opinion is that it really depends on what you are looking for and what type of person you are. My remarkable 2 is well design and fashionably designed. The remarkable 2 is the ultimate in dumb tech where its never glitchy, super reliable and easy to use as I collaborate with others. Now the Supernote A5X definitely has a learning curve and personally there was too many steps to access features. When I write, I just write and I don’t need any additional cognitive load to look for features. (Side note, My 80 year old grandmother uses my remarkable 2 with ease). Also, the Supernote design is not as ascetically nice as the remarkable 2.
Great review. I've been a e-ink enthusiastic since 2007, when kindle 1 was released. And the last year I consume all channels about note taking the TH-cam present me. And today, I saw you. Congrats.
I feel like we are similar users of the Supernote based on this video! I love that you even use it to help with your knitting. I am just learning to knit, but it's a great idea!
Your videos are really great - Simple, informative and easy to digest! Haven’t gotten my Supernote yet but your videos gives me a lot of ideas on what to expect from the device. Thank you!
it is nice to watch a long term review about supernote a6x, and I love how complete your review, including about the diy pen. I've been considering an a6x but everyone else is using a5x. I also hava a poke 3 so your review is answering all my question. I was considering onyx boox too but I was not so sure if I need another boox. thank you now I am sure A6x is a best choice for me :)
Excellent review. It is exactly as you say. The writing feeling is very different compared to Remarkable. In other side, the note taking resources are top. I would like a dedicated icon to switch quicker between Kinde app and notes, as far as I usually take notes when reading. The only issue I have is with the battery % on the last update. So, it is the best option for note taking but with a special writing feeling. I apreciate a lot the software updates, no doubt.
You talked me into it! I have a ReMarkable 2 but I worry about its fragility. I decided on the smaller A6X, in addition to the rM2, to be my daily driver. I'll use the rM2 for heavy note taking as I do really enjoy the writing feel on it.
Your review must be really spot on because the reason for not choosing the Boox device was the main reason I went with it over the supernote device. I really needed a backlight! I also started with a reMarkable and finally jumped ship when 1) the R2 wasn't going to be that much better; 2) It was delayed AGAIN; 3) You were still going to have to rely on 3rd party hacks for some functionality.
Haha totally understand it’s a dealbreaker for some, depending on how you use it. I certainly wouldn’t have gotten a Kindle without a frontlight since I read in the dark most of the time!
Agree with both comments. For me I’m perfectly happy with a “simple” device for note taking, and others for everything else. So no backlight and other features is fine. Just looking for a digital and more useful notepad really. Supernote just seems like a better buy than the rm2
I was going to give it a thumbs up just because it was an in-depth review, but I definitely gave it a thumbs up because of the D&D character sheet and dice!
I must say, I found this video to be thoughtful, thorough, insightful and ...strangely relaxing. I was an early adopter of the reMarkable (v1) and I'm frustrated that it still falls short in some basic areas. They have begrudgingly and belated admitted that ePub v3 capability is poor and inconsistent, but despite their promises, fixes never seem to come. They seem more focused on monetising their users with a subscription model than delivering a good user experience for all users. Ho hum.
I didn't even finish your video yet. I have been struggling on which to get size wise. You said in your video that you pulled out tablets you were currently writing for comparison was a light bulb moment for me. Thanks for that. Ok now I can finish your video.
I love your video! I recently bought a Boox Note Air 2. Still not satisfied with the writing feel. Have just tried the Staedler Noris Jumbo, but neither this nor the standard pen is perfect for me. So I just ordered the LAMY AL-star Black EMR stylus. I have been using LAMY Safari fountain pens for many years and I really like the grip and writing-feel. THEN I saw your video - and wow what an excellent idea you have to mix the EMR part with an AL-star Turmaline (teal) Rollerball ! Looks fantastic!!! -So I just ordered that one too :)
And now that the A6x is discontinued and I just missed buying one discounted on the website, he who hesitates is lost, I wonder if and when they will reissue that size device.
Noticed the Kodak Ultramax and Ilford FP4, it's so interesting to see how many commonalities we all have. All my friends that like writing/studying like analog things like 35mm, all my photography enthusiast friends like pens and papers, and we are all looking into e-ink tablets
I did see that they are working on a smoother zoom experience. Definitely one of my gripes as well. I hope they put a lot of work into the pdf reading experience.
It would definitely make it much easier to recommend to people who need to read/annotate a lot of academic papers. But I’ve experienced this past year how Ratta has delivered on planned features so I’m pretty hopeful (especially after seeing it on their roadmap) this year may be the year :)
@@pixelleaves Well, landscape is a big step and I saw somebody’s beta video showing it. The trick is to make it a simple but powerful experience. They seem pretty good at that so far.

I am considering getting this device for work notes, daily to-do lists and also for knitting and dnd notes. I literally gasped out loud when that is exactly what popped up in this video! Thank you for the insight, this was very objective and helpful 😃
Using my SN for my current home game and for scribbling on the pattern for a slightly complicated summer knit-can confirm it’s very useful for both! :)
A fantastic review! Clear and concise, whilst giving an aesthetically pleasing viewing experience. My kind of review. Great job and has given me another E-notebook option compared to Remarkable.

I want to be able to write a lot without worrying about changing nibs. That’s one thing that swayed me away from the scribe. One reviewer said they changed their nib after a month. 😅 Your video on size really helped me. Because I was wanting a large screen. And I know their A5x2 hasn’t come out yet. I really wanted this too, but the shipping and import taxes are too much for me and I thought that it has yet to justify the price for a dedicated note-taking device, so I might go for the Boox Note Air 2 Plus

Ha- you answered that right as I finished typing. I dont know that any have that function… Finally- amen on dropping device on face as you fall asleep😂
Hi, in the video you mentioned that keeping your eyes away from screens was one of the factors for getting SN. I'm kinda interested in it for the same reason. After using it for 1.5 years, how much easy is it on the eyes as per you?
I'm very curious about your Obsidian configuration shown at 11:30. At least I'm pretty sure it's Obsidian...? What theme are you using to get that nice clean look and layout? Also, how did you get that nicely formatted table (with multiple fonts, no less!)?
Hi, thanks for noticing 😁 I use Sanctum theme which does most of the work, with some stuff (e.g. background colors for headers) changed using the Style Settings plugin. The table is a Dataview query!
@@pixelleaves Thanks! I may have to play with it a bit! And I've noticed a lot of folks using Dataview but have yet to tinker with it myself. It seems like it can be pretty powerful if one knows how to make good use of it.
I'm noticing that you don't rest your hand on the tablet while writing. Is this simply your preference, or a necessity particular to use of this device? Your review is perfect. Thank You! You touched on every issue/question I've had in trying to decide between e-notebooks.
Just the angle in this case, I think! :) In that first part I’m definitely resting the side of my hand on the tablet for some parts of the note-taking, and I usually do. Thank you for the kind words!
Is it still true that the calendar integration sorts notes based on when they were last opened rather than when they were created? Thank you for the super helpful video!
I’m really happy you mentioned the notebook size in relation to desk real-estate That is my big concern. Also, great advice with experimenting with page sizes. Can you password protect this device?
I am about to start graduate level studies. I just got my Nomad. I have Obsidian as well (new to it) Can you please help me, how can I set up the templates and notes for organizing my notes for school?

Thank you for the kind words!
finally a useful review
Could you do a tutorial on how to make your own templates for the Supernote? Mine is on the way :). I'm loving the videos!
This is on the shortlist of videos I was considering doing next, and I think I’ll move it up haha. Thank you for watching and for the suggestion!
Ah Thank you! I can't wait to watch the other videos you have in store! :)
Can you search handwritten notes on it??
Do you use the option of converting notes to text? What is the quality of this? No mistakes with recognizing and sorting words?
It only has conversion in Word files and it’s not practical imho. You can check out my “basics” video for my thoughts and a demo
@@pixelleaves Thanks
Ah! Character sheets!!! Oh dang!!!
It's a bit more expensive than a base model ipad tho D: makes me want a tablet instead.
But E-Ink....
Is it still true that the calendar integration sorts notes based on when they were last opened rather than when they were created?
Thank you for the super helpful video!
Wow we have the same old kindle and the same reading patterns, casual on kindle, serious on A5X
That Kindle is a tank! 😆
I’m really happy you mentioned the notebook size in relation to desk real-estate That is my big concern. Also, great advice with experimenting with page sizes. Can you password protect this device?
Yes, you can, I believe it’s a 6 digit code.
I want the Supernote with a light. ;)
Does this do handwriting to text? Thank you 😊
I am about to start graduate level studies. I just got my Nomad. I have Obsidian as well (new to it) Can you please help me, how can I set up the templates and notes for organizing my notes for school?
