Thanks very much! This stuff is not cheap and we try to cover as much as we can with the mindset of consumers.

    Excellent review mate.
We got this rack because of its compatibility with heavy ebikes. Upgraded from the Yakima Holdup evo which was also a fantastic rack but was not specced for bikes over 23kg, or for very long bikes.
This new rack is super solid. No complaints. Works well. And fits heavy and long bikes. Offsetting between bikes works a treat.
I have also noticed that issue with the lifting latch that you reported on, but it’s not a big deal; just requires a bit of extra wiggling to get the latch to spring back into place. Must have a tight tolerance or something. Once you are aware of it, it is ok.
We only take 2 bikes, and I agree I wouldn’t add another two bikes on the back - that would be super long and awkward for backing etc.
The locking pin is the same mechanism used on the holdup evo we had. It doesn’t do a lot once the hitch expanding clamp system is all tightened up. The pin makes sure the rack is in the right place when tightening the hatch clamp, and I guess also acts as a secondary backup. We have had no issues with it.
The only thing I wish Yakima would do is have a longer built-in cable lock. I prefer to loop it through/around the arch of the fork for extra security rather than through the tyre. Though having said that, it’s pretty lightweight so would be no match for even light bolt cutters. Will stop random impromptu thefts, but not someone with the right tools. All the same, a slightly heavier cable wouldn’t go amiss either I guess.
    Cheers. Andrew.

Honestly not entirely sure why this video popped up because I bought my rack a good while back. I watched it though, and man, you’re thorough. I can’t tell you how many times I tried that pin and couldn’t get it to go through… anyway. Stellar review, both in depth and delivery. Made me want to buy one again. Cheers.

Yakima definitely put a lot of thought into making this a top shelf rack

Nice review. It's comparable to a Thule T2 Pro, similar design. I will say on the Thule it has a strongly spring loaded latch so that when you raise it up from that drop down position it reliably clicks locked in place at the normal horizontal position. We have the 4 bike version and I wish I had a vertical unit for 2+ bikes. It's just really unwieldy to put on the vehicle alone and as you say, extends nearly 6ft behind the vehicle, have to be aware of it in parking lots, maneuvering, etc. But for 2, this Yakima unit, like the Thule, is probably really great. The tail light add on is huge, anything to help prevent someone running into the rack is worth it.

Spot on in the comparison to the Thule T2 Pro XT (XTR model has wheels). Having switched from the T2 Pro to the Yamika StageTwo, would say the Yamika wheel trays accommodate more tire sizes and the way it fastens the rear wheel is much more robust than the T2. Alao like the added option on the Yamika of the built-in slot that allows you to use a strap to secure tire to rack (have velcro straps I purchased from Amazon that fit perfect) Both racks are awesome, easy in/easy out and can accommodate emtbs. Think the Yamika has much better security cable (longer/easier to fasten and lock) than Thule T2. Can't go wrong with either one but if I had to choose one, Yamika gets my vote.

Had a look at this but went with the rock solid Thule T2 Pro XTR instead. Better feel and build. Maybe the 20% off sale will be the sweetener for many. Understandable.

Yakima is definitely one of the best Rack makers.
I bought the EVO2 then my brother and 2 friends went the same route… it is strong for Ebikes and simple.
You never go wrong with YAKIMA.

Do you not run mudguards? So if you have a full length mudguard on the fork, do you have to remove it every time ?

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  ปีที่แล้ว

No this will clip just in front of guard or in some cases over the top of it depending on how sturdy it is.

Buy Yakima and you can wait for months until their customer rep gets back to you on the warranty. I had issue with 2 of my Yakima racks. I got tired of waiting for their customer rep and returned both back to REI.
Then I got 1up. Never look back.

Most e-bikes are over 60 lbs, so this rack is a no go for me.
