      Even for some stuff he said about Edison elsewhere I was thrown off b/c a lot of what's being played in Edison now is stuff I very distinctly recall my local area playing back then. Or the BLS + Reborn + Dhole pov thing was the common perspective here after seeing that list drop.

      @@lulzvg If it didn't top a regional or higher it's extremely unlikely there's records of any given deck actually having any success. And even then it's a bit iffy since records are basically entirely community based.

      @@Skasaha_ I get that. I just meant it was really surprising people didn’t notice larger scale till more recently is all. Even some friends from a few states away had the same situation back then though I didn’t meet them till much later than Edison. I’m sure it’s developed even beyond that point and the notion of that is really cool. Like even in a single country the meta development can be at wholly different stages during the same time.

    Early HAT is when I got into yugioh and it is still the format I have the fondest memories of playing. I understand some people might be put off by the fact that the best two decks (HAT and Geargia) begin every game by setting 5 cards, and even decks that look to spam boss monsters (i.e. Harpies) just end up sitting on one big chungus while grinding out the match, but for anyone looking for a slower (but not underpowered) format, I really recommend checking it out.

      HAT was literally peak Yugioh, a grindy, resource intensive control format where the powerful control tools that allow you to outgrind your opponent are easily accessible extra deck toolbox monsters instead of limited power draws like in Goat. I hope to see more people playing HAT format in the future.

      It's an interesting format - this was the first one I was competitive for.
      Unfortunately, Monarch (ED and Domain)/PK Fire/Kozmo, then a Tier 2 of Pendulum/Qliphort wasn't actually particularly fun. A large percentage of games were just "where's the Domain out," Kozmo was a check on Domain but bricked to hell, Qliphort was all floodgtes, and no deck could keep up with PK without resorting to shenanigans.

    i made a poll in zodiac duelist around October 2020 regarding Eternal / TOSS format and a lot of people wanted to play post gold sarc tins (introducing nibiru, shifter, and drnm) which used the July 2019 list, as opposed to the October one you suggested, but both formats being post-tins make them significantly different from the longest version that was actually played, immediately after the good orcust cards came in DANE at the very start of May until the banlist in mid-July, some two-and-a-half months long, and also different from what i think is the most fun version to play - the July 2019 banlist format PRE-tins, which was also played for about one-and-a-half months
    i've just made another post on Zodiac, hopefully this one will gain some traction and generate discussion as well, but hopefully your mentioning the format here will generate some interest in it as well

    I personally came back to Yugioh during Inzektor format, and personally I'm pretty nostalgic for it. You had about six decks all vying for top spots (Wind-Up, Inzektor, Dino Rabbit, Chaos Dragon, Ninjas, and Hieratics), and even some decks that came a bit too late that could compete retroactively (mainly Spellbooks) and some interesting rogue options (Gishki, Quasar Turbo, and early Madolche).

    8:00 I disagree with your assessment of the October banlist. The problem with that format was the Mega Tin promos: Nibiru and DRNM. It made Salad and Danger Thunder a riskier option to play. Sky Strikers and Orcust didn’t have as big of an issue with Nibiru and DRNM. The later you go into the year, the better sky striker orcust becomes and this kind of breaks the beautiful dynamic of the format. I think the best point would be the July banlist of that year for the reasons mentionen.

      & Cyber Dragon, @Ignister, Ancient Warrior, Danger! Gren Maju & Cubics are all fun decks that while not as viable are more viable/actually exist unlike in the prior format dominated by Striker/Orcust, there's even a playable Orcust deck still in the format, just the most balanced incarnation of it to ever exist

    • @AzzyReal
      @AzzyReal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hard disagree, before the tin promos it was obnoxious trying to stop those decks from doing anything in certain scenarios, and it got to the point where breaking an established board pretty much wasn't reasonable to accomplish with your available card economy. October 2019 was definitely the most well balanced of the Toss formats, and I feel people just lust after the absurd power ceilings that were reachable in July 2019. I understand the appeal, don't get me wrong, but after the promos, builds had to become more reserved. Danger Thunder (for example) was forced to pivot into Pure/Stunder builds and I personally think that's the more interesting way to play the deck, and resulted in the pilots having to be smarter to continue to succeed with the deck. The interplay between the decks still existed, it had just shifted and evolved. The only blight I would argue is that Striker Orcust rose in prominence around that time.

I remember playing Jurracs, Evols, Warrior Rabbit, and other dumb decks on DN and doing ok. Its got a fairly sizeable card pool but its not that hard to go through all the cards.
      Also it has the best deck ever of Chaos Dragons.

      That era after the Four Horsemen (DIno Rabbit, Inzektors, Wind-Ups and Chaos Dragons) got wrecked in some shape or form but before Rulers were released was so fun. tbh even after DRs I was still pulling out wins with Dark Worlds. It was Hidden Arsenal 7 that wrecked it for me with Evilswarm.

      I think that era kind of runs into edison format, glad beasts, a nerfed/evolved version of tele-DAD & lightsworn are all still playable there, it's not the same but it can be worth joining in with that to play those cards with a pretty active playerbase

    • @AzureAetherXx

      @@Marcusjnmc it does but I specifically am looking for that era of pre bans because while yes the decks were definitely broken for their times I like that was this kinda "Clash of the Titans" feeling to it. While historically that format is remembered for TeleDAD dominating everything having played that format first hand I can say that both Glad Beast and Lightsworn were able to breakthrough at lower levels which history often doesn't show.

    “Oh u summoned colossus yay...”
    Here’s the thing though...Colossus against the other decks was varied? Orcust and Salad outed it through his protection effect (and Orcust just did not care about Colossus at all as well) so it was really Striker that had a problem. Pure Thunder relied on Titan and Danger Thunder needed the extra negates that Agarpain brought out to not get clapped by Orcust. This is why Thunder was considered the weakest of the 4 TOSS decks compared to Salad, Striker and Orcust before the Mega Tin Promos and October Banlist. Don’t let your hate boner for how they expanded Thunder Dragon into an archetype influence how it actually performed.

    • @AzzyReal
      @AzzyReal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The funny thing is, by October they shifted to pure/stunder (which was when I picked up the deck) and because of how you shifted your strategy, alot of matchups shifted in your favor. You could play under Nib by setting up Lambda with Gamma in hand, get an Apo up by fifth summon, or just sit on Titan+Colossus and backrow. The backrow options were pretty decent too, sitting on Macro/DiFi just shit on Orcust and Salad, Titan and Colossus kept their protection through skill drain and survived Torrential, and tributing off extra Colossus for virus fodder just gave insane amounts of control to good pilots. Plus you were maining Nib and Phantazmay anyway, so your hts were super high impact. Hell, you could afford to main Lancea purely for the mirror and Orcust matchups, and that was huge as well. To top it all off, Aloof was pretty much impossible to handtrap as a starter since it banished for cost. I think these things just got overshadowed by people trying to force danger Thunder to work because they were still chasing the high from the power ceiling of July Danger Thunder, and things like Striker Orcust rising yo prominence (sick fucking deck as well btw, but fuck 3 engage lmfao.)

      a lot of the deck diversity of february '20 also comes out of the format just being more balanced though, the most broken decks of the format both being hurt by both Droll & Nibiru helps balance a lot, & Winda is relatively easy to handle with Dark Ruler in the format on top of Imperm & with Schism not having been released yet so it's generally a target for those start of turn, which opens the door to a plethora of rogue decks to be played

    If I had to pick a favourite historical format, it would probably be Goat control, I first started playing the game outside of the playground at school around this time and because I couldnt really get ahold of the cards for the "standard" goat control deck, I actually ended up playing a deck the revolved around xyz dragon cannon utilizing cards like dimension fusion and return from the different dimension and I had quite a lot of success with it. i honestly dont think I would be playing the game currently if not for my experience back then, as while I did stop playing the game after goat format ended, because of my fond memories of the game and my love of frogs, I came back to the game just in time for the frog ftk deck using substitoad (yeah, i know its degenerate, but I love frogs too much to care lol).

    For the past few years me and my friends have been play CRV Goat Format which is the same banlist but includes Exarion and CRV into the card pool which namely adds Cyber Dragon and its Fusions which also makes Cyber-Stein viable, so this is very similar to your "Reaper Format" but with the Goat Format banlist. But with Goat Control at full power, the Cyber-Stein OTK is actually very stoppable and often backfires lol
    I'm big on playing Cyber Dragons so for every Time Wizard Format I get into I intend to play Cyber Dragons if they're playable and they're somewhat playable in almost every format but very good in TOSS and maybe a 2016-2017 format that has Infinity in it, like that ABC Format I guess, CyDra Orcust was a tier 1 deck back in 2019 so if that was at full power for TOSS that's probably what I'd run, CyDra is a little jank in Edison but it's semi-playable and meshes well with some of the cards at the time like Dimension Fusion or Return, since Cyber Valley, Overload Fusion and Eltanin can quickly fill your banish pile. Also DNA Surgery + Chimeratech Fortress is insanely funny in Edison lol

    A big reason why Goat lists moved away from pure control was the banning of Exarion Universe. Exarion was commonly played in Goat format lists until a few years ago. Losing a big dark that could punish goats, reaper, weenie sets took away a lot of aggro/pressure from control lists

    • @Brawler_1337
      @Brawler_1337 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn’t that Exarion Universe was banned. It was a matter of when precisely the wave of tins containing Exarion Universe became tournament legal versus when Cybernetic Revolution became legal. There was a debate over this for a long time because Upper Deck tournament policy at the time was weird. It was eventually decided that Exarion Universe was never legal before Cyber Dragon was, and so Goat Format now definitively removes those tins from the card pool. TBH, it was probably for the best, since Exarion Universe’s presence made Scapegoat an actively bad card, and now there are a bunch of viable tech choices that were outclassed by Exarion Universe.

Example salamangreat's arguably became stronger when they stoped going staleo turbo and looked to other tech choices still has the clogged up extra deck sadly... plus after the initial combos there were still back and forth slug matches.
