Welcome back to my channel and thanks so much for watching this video! Today is a different kind of video and not one I ever thought I would be making. So... I was laid off. And it was really unexpected. You've probably heard a lot about recent tech layoffs, and I am sadly one of those people that find themselves out of work. If you've been laid off, first, I'm SO sorry! I know this sucks! but you're also not alone, and this is not forever. Tech layoffs 2023 sucks, but we'll get through it!
I decided to create an unemployment vlog series and to share my journey navigating this weird time. I hope one day I can look back, appreciate the struggle and see how far I've come! I've never been in the position where I've had to say I lost my job and it's weird and scary. So I'm sharing my process and my job search in the hopes that it helps someone else. Here's a DITL, thought it's not my usual day in the life vlog. Come along for the journey! That being said, you'll be seeing a lot more videos from me!

I also got laid off 1.5 months ago. I'm pregnant and I'm still feeling sad about the situation. I'm 37 yo, and I feel my age plays negatively. So frustrating. I loved my job :(

I was recently laid off as well and started vlogging about it. Good luck to you! It’s been tough. I worked in talent acquisition and there are so many people in that field that are laid off. I have applied to 25 roles in the last two weeks and I have only had one interview which wasn’t even a role I applied to. I have 2 phone screens scheduled so 🤞🤞🤞 good luck to you!

I got laid off from Microsoft and have been vlogging my experience as well. How are you managing your stress and applying to jobs in this market?
Ugh I am so sorry! I will say I did not manage the stress very well 😅 I relied really heavily on creative outlets like TH-cam and writing but when I wasn’t distracting myself I was superrrr stressed. Getting outside and taking walks, journaling and therapy were all very very helpful. I am really fortunate and blessed to be able to say I found a position after only a month of being laid off, unfortunately I’m finding it’s not the right fit and have been applying again and just accepted a new role. How is your experience going?? How are you doing? Are you trying to stay in tech the way things have been?
I abscounted from 2 it firms in Bangalore 🇮🇳 Now I'm working in another IT company here
I've learned if u decide to quit a lousy job, or u get fired, make sure to have 6 months to a yr of savings, just in case.
This is absolutely helpful to save as much as you can or to leave with something else lined up, but definitely not always possible in a lay-off since they're so unexpected!
@royreadingco1157 I agree and I know it's almost impossible to save today w/everything so expensive, but it's good to have some money set aside for a rainy day...
Much better than what Nicole Tsai from Google did when laid off, which was spend money
I mean to each their own! Retail therapy works for some people, and this is what worked for me 😂
I'd never hire a gen z who immed jumped on social media blabbing every detail of their layoff.
And luckily that’s your choice, and it’s mine to create these kinds of videos :) it may be babbling to you, but to me it’s sharing a journey and hopefully helping someone going through a similar situation!

@@oluwadamilolao Not nasty at all, just telling it like it is. These gen z's are gonna find out the hard way that their parents lied to them: that their farts do in fact stink.
And they're gonna find out that as the economy collapses, this narcissistic blabbering on social media is going to make them unemployable. They'll be living with mommy and daddy til they're in their 50's then end up homeless when mommy & daddy die or go to a nursing home.
