Just laid off last Friday. Mid level IT position in financial services, 12 years of service. HR lady zoomed me 15 minutes before I signed off for the day. I made the lay off list first round. No severance, just my last check and medical coverage till end of the month. Signed up for unemployment, got side gig income. But, this is stressful us all. I was laid off last month from my escrow Officer job with a huge national home builder. I saw it coming though. Sales fell off a cliff when rates spiked last year. Those terrible sales months came home to roost starting in January. Closings were projected down 75+%. I’ve been a barber for 10 year now and I’m a huge proponent for having a skilled trade on your resume. I cried for a day, made a phone call, and had a job making my same income the next day. 29 year old me is really thanking 19 year old me for sticking it out and getting licensed. It’s such a great feeling knowing I have a safety net for when shit hits the fan.
Man. I wish I had ever had a job that made me cry at losing it. I was never laid off, always quit. In most cases, something better is right around the corner. But it is scary not knowing where your next dollar is coming from. Wishing you all the best and that your next situation is amazing.
My husband is a real estate appraiser and we saw it coming also. Made adjustments to our monthly expenses. Even with making those changes, it did not give as much breathing room as it should have. With groceries and just about everything else that has gone up so much it's mind-blowing! We will hang on and ride this roller-coaster the best we can. I can’t but help remember the Tech Kids of the day condemning laid-off factory workers “learn to code!” back when the Government and Wall Street were bankrolling the Chinese Communist Party replace American workers with virtual factory slave labor… as one of the few who actually learned how to code (and then experienced being laid-off and replaced by H1Bs) I have to say that 2/3rds of Americans are saying now “learn to drive a truck” or work as a barista is now becoming “the new normal”
After graduating into a recession in the early 90s and then suffering unemployment in the Dot Com Bubble Implosion of 2001, I learned skill diversification is key. It’s like mixed martial arts - do not rely on just one skill in on area. A one dimensional Java developer would face a tough job search. But if the skills were diversified to include defense security clearance and aerospace engineering, then the job search gets easier.
I turned a layoff into one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I launched a TH-cam and a business helping people do the same and proud to say I've fully replaced my income (and then some). Navigate the murky waters in the beginning, but have a plan. You may find a sweet ending to your story as well. Good luck with the job search and I'm sure you'll land squarely on your feet!

I lost my job back in 2019 right before Covid hit. I felt like a complete failure but God had bigger plans. Sometimes he removes us from situations that we would of otherwise never left on our own only to place us right where he needs us to be. God has a plan!
Exactly. The problem is we get so used to feeling safe doing the same routine that when we change things up it's scary. We associate out identity with our jobs and feel lost. Change is good. Apply for unemployment, take a few weeks to get things in order and figure out what you want to do now. It will be ok and work out. Sending prayers for peace.

@@Iaintbrokenomo I did work remote, but not everyone in tech works remote. A lot of tech companies are having people go back to the office. Most likely I won’t be working for another big tech company. They aren’t hiring Recruiters, they are laying them off instead. LinkedIn and Twillo just laid off a ton of Recruiters yesterday and Disney is about to layoff 7k people. I’m going to assume many of them are going to be Recruiters. There are not a ton recruiting roles available right now and most of them are hybrid or fully onsite.
This might sound crazy but since you have the talent acquisition experience, why not do videos talking about what managers should look for in potential candidates. Also, what someone looking for a job should do/say in an interview...resumé advise, etc. Your channel will probably blow up.

The first thing you do is celebrate and treat yourself to a fabulous meal. Congratulate yourself on the great job you did, and then get a good night's sleep and start looking for another job the next day. This is normal anytime you work in the corporate world. Always begin with the end in mind, as Stephen Covey said. Believe me, it works!!

I have been laid off several times. It is not the end of the world. Get started immediately looking for work and be realistic. In these days, having a good emergency fund is critical.

I was ahead of the curve: I was laid off in November. I'm currently working at a counter-service seafood restaurant, and really knuckling down on my budget, living paycheck to paycheck while I figure out what comes next. I can't imagine how scary it is to be a mother in this position. May we all endure the lean times, and come out on the other side with experience and wisdom.
Don't sweat it too much. You will look back years from now at this episode of your life and see it as the next great opportunity it will turn into. I speak from the tech field and with experience in working at multiple places that have gone out of business. Pretty much the same thing as being let go but without any safety nets or severance in those cases. One day you go to work and are told you will be staying to "turn off the gear and turn out the lights". Every time, I and every one else I worked with bounced back better and higher. Breathe ! This too shall pass. :)

My mom has been laid off from mid level marketing 3 times in 6 months. She FINALLY got a job last week. And it’s the same job she was offered, but declined for her last position due to the cost of healthcare benefits. It’ll all work out!

Losing a job you've had for years can be tough. Take time to process, assess your finances, update your resume and network, consider upskilling, explore new opportunities, and take care of yourself. I think one professional skill you could leverage in your TH-cam content is your perspective as a recruiter - tell people what will help them stand out, get hired, negotiate their offers. That’s what people who are in the same position as you are probably going to benefit from the most right now.

2001, 2002, 2009 were my years of layoffs in the tech industry. You'll get through it - it is a bit tougher getting the same kind of job in tech being non-technical. I am a developer but back in 2001 and 2002 it took many weeks (2002 was 6 weeks or so) to find a another job. Anyway, I've been through it 3 times and back out the other side. You'll be ok! Yep, 2001. There had been rumors, our supervisor couldn’t say anything but dropped hints (“ this is not a good time to make large purchases.”). I figure I’d beat the rush and quit early 2001. I knew I wanted a job where I didn’t have to work nights, holidays, & weekends-I was in tech. I worked in a bookstore, learned to drive a bus, did security and finally got my dream job with my own office. Stayed there till I retired 12 yrs later.

I am a Behavioral Therapist and I would like to suggest that you continue your child’s IEP, request an appointment with his primary physician, and see if your health insurance provides ABA therapy. My family is going through this right now. Even with a degree in IT and many years of experience, he is being laid off. Getting the max in unemployment does not even pay the mortgage here in CA. Yes, share your tech knowledge and related fields for finding work, maybe one day a week, or whatever you might enjoy.
I went to lunch with the HR manager and was told I would get a promotion on my next review. I had free lunch at Olive Garden. After driving back to the office, my badge didn’t worked. The company logo outside the building was covered in plastic tape and I knew I was laid off. Lesson learned. Don’t fall for free lunches.
I was amongst one of the first round of layoffs in tech a year ago. Its been pretty crazy! I was quite fortunate, besides a couple of freelance gigs here and there, I managed to land on a fairly stable tech company. Admittedly I have been trying to leave this job because its a constant fire-drill. But its been difficult because its hard to get a switch jobs now. So I try and remain grateful that I have a job until I find something else. Anyway, ALOT of people have lost their jobs this year. We're all in this together.
Thank you for sharing. I lost my job a couple of years ago. It felt like my world came crashing down. In retrospect, it’s best I parted ways because it wasn’t working out, but the sense of defeat and failure was all-encompassing when it happened. What I learned is that the only thing you can control, is your own mental health and your job performance. For me, these two are intricately linked. Over time, some doors will close. But other doors open. Hope you get a new job soon!!
So sorry. It can be a punch in the gut. When I was younger, I was told I was laid off from a corporate job the morning after working until 2 in the morning to finish a project that was needed. Two weeks later, I was already hired by another company. This experience made me realize that everyone is even every payday. I don't owe them anything and they don't owe me anything. This mindset served me well through the rest of my career. Don't look back just look forward.

Unreal, I've been laid-off in the construction industry in 2008. I didn't have a need to give a play by play. Instead of doing a tik tok or YT video. I just obtained new skills and became an electrician. It really is not hard, but you do have to get out of your safe zone and become an adult.
The reason why companies have to layoff. Most especially tech is because of the interest rate being higher than zero. Most tech companies got over leveraged for the past 10 years, thus creating a bubble, but now that US FED has increased interest rate, most of those companies can't borrow money for free, so hence the layoff, also the stock prices of these companies have dropped also due to high interest rate. It's all to fight inflation. Sorry for losing your job

Getting laid off is tough! Give yourself a little time to grieve, but then remember it is an opportunity to reassess what you want and find something better. I'm sure that there will be something much better in store for you. Perhaps it's sticking with IT, or perhaps it will be a whole new field. New opportunities can be very exciting!
Laid off in September 2022 and still unemployed now. Tons of applications and 4 interviews and no hires. Former IT network tech. Company shutdown. Sucks not working.
I got laid off from my engineering job when the pandemic came but oddly enough I never actually stopped doing work for them. It's design work so I can WFH but I'm no longer officially employed, though I was getting severance pay for a while. Now they're just paying me by the project. It was the strangest firing.🤔 Anyway good luck with your job search. The job market is pretty tight right now and skilled labor is in demand. You'll do fine.

@@seriejohnson698 most of it is things like marketing and technology, there will always be manual labor jobs open all the time, they are too big for them to layoff any of the workers that actually run the parks and hotels, I have worked at Universal already and the amount of people that apply, get hired and quit before they even get past training its absurdly high, like 50%+ to put it safely, and those that make it past training a lot quit in less than 3 months. Its not because the jobs are demanding, people just think they can get away with a lot of stuff while working in those places and they are very quick to fire people off.
I’ve been laid off in September 2021 after 26 years. I got a one year severance. I was soooo miserable the last two years at that company so I was kinda ok with it. My mom also passed the year before which turned my life upside down and to this date I’m still grieving and crying for her. Things will get BETTER for you !!! I now work in a total different industry and did I tell you I’m 50+ so I thought I would work at my previous employer until retirement or close to it. As they say when one door closes another opens and many doors will open for you !!! I have faith in you !!! You’ll be ok !!!
In 2022, I got laid off the day after my 10 year anniversary and right before Christmas. I was also going through a divorce. I was devastated. I was never going to leave my marriage (15 years). However, I was being abused in every way. My job paid very well but was toxic. I was never going to leave my toxic job because I had a family to support and no one would pay me the salary I was earning. Everyone said this company pays above and beyond the industry standard. I now have a dream job and peace in my home. Hang in there, it gets better.

I was laid off in 2019 and again at the beginning of the pandemic (also in tech) and the biggest hit for me was finding purpose in my every day routine so your thoughts about the immediate aftermath resonates so much. Being a regular blue-collar worker is as risky bas the high-tech route. We get laid off too, best thing is to say a prayer , then go right out and get a job, one that pays enough for you and your son to just barely make itr. That's your starting point. Gotta go.....

He is loving the fact that I am now picking him up from school now instead of my mom who watched him after school for me while I worked. He made sure to tell his entire class and teachers that his mom lost her job. He thinks it’s a good thing because it’s more time with mom! 😂 I did love my Dyson, but it recently broke so I had to get a new vacuum that isn’t a Dyson. I still need to take off the charger from the wall. I’ll get to it eventually!

Let me share my layoff experience. I got laid off when the tech bubble burst during the early 2000s. I can't find work for 3 years. I lost 2 of my teeth because I didn't have dental care. I actually had a cracked and infected tooth in my mouth for months and I was spitting out blood on a daily basis. My family abandoned me. My mom actually told me not to call until I find work. Things got so bad that I actually considered being a nurse. When I finally got work, it was with a contracting agency that took more of the money. Yeah, layoffs build character.

However I had no warning just an impromptu meeting appeared on my calendar with HR my manager and others receiving the same devastating news as me. So now I’m trying to stay busy and not think about it so much because I get angry all over again

Here’s is my 2cents do what makes you happy! I have been lay off several times, many emotions running all directions but life continues. I have to stay focus for my daughter. I’m currently I ride share driver/food delivery/ Real Estate Agent! The best thing that happened to me was loosing my job! I will never ever look back! I got laid off twice in 4 years, the second worked out for the best as I was able to be home with my kids during the pandemic, plus somehow i made more money being laid off then as i was working.

I know there are layoffs... and sometimes there's nothing we can do about it... BUT- the way it was done... OMG, in my origin country (Israel) that is so illegal !!! An employee needs to be handed a hearing invite note, explaining that this is a hearing about their employment and what will be discussed there (for example- company cut-downs, productivity, tardiness, etc...) - 24 hours at least before that hearing !! Some choose to say- I don't need the warning- let's go into the hearing, but it is still mandatory. As a fellow TH-camr- my heart is with you. Even though I have not been employed for years now... (was fired from my IT job when I started showing symptoms of PTSD) Maybe this will be the beginning of an epic new journey, focusing more on TH-cam (you could also take some of the ideas for DIY projects you're making and turn them into classes to upload to skillshae...) OR- hoping you'll find employment soon. all my love to you and your kid (I'm autistic myself, and there is so much on that spectrum. I mean, no one would even guess I have autism, haha)

I feel I must be from another planet or something. I have never felt connected to a corporate job in this way that I didn't understand that we are all just cogs in a giant wheel and really not that relevant to the operation or concern of the company. This is probably the reason I have resigned after 3 or 4 years at any company because that's all of my soul I was willing to give them. Our youngest son is autistic. Those IEP meetings are gut wrenching. Any time I was between jobs I devoted it to our son and family life in general. I have never been laid off, but I have heard many people say it's very emotional.
You just need to allow yourself to settle down for a while after an unwelcome '"surprise". We have to embrace it as part of life in working class society. Take this quite moment as opportunity to do what you were not seriously thinking before / wish to but didn't when you had a job. Eg : Go to gym, do yoga or whatever you like. No one is 100% dependent on a single company to survive. Just like love, not able to get the loved one to accept you doesn't mean there is no one else out there (despite we feel heart-breaking). As long we are healthy and be positive, just a matter of time for your new journey. Through my career, I have been laid-off once and it took me 1 year to secure a new job. Life was horrible at that time (cutting expensive to the bear minimum). Looking back, that was 20 years ago and now, life is pretty decent. Hold in there, my friend.

Majority of our tech department was cleaned up yesterday. We all got our notices however as per UK law they need to do a consultation for 45 days before handing over redundancy.

My life story. I'll keep it vague so no one can figure who i am 😂. Got laid off in 2016 from my dream job after 2 years, got paid £30k a year. Got a job 5 months later(took longer cos we had a baby soon after so i only started my job search 3 months later), was getting paid 45k i did that job for 5 years. Then i changed job and got laid off after 3 months i was getting 150k, then i thought it's the end for me as i lost the jackpot but found another job 3 months later at 130k

Believe in yourself, your family and God to help you get through this difficult circumstance. It is NOT your fault. Unfortunately, USA companies do NOT value their employees, but this MUST change on the near future.
I have been laid off more times than I can remember. I have been fired a few times too. It is just part of a working lifetime. You will be fine. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! Now you will get paid to do what you want for a little while, Enjoy time with your son and dog. Before you know it, you will land a new gig and life goes on. 😉

Man. I wish I had ever had a job that made me cry at losing it. I was never laid off, always quit. In most cases, something better is right around the corner. But it is scary not knowing where your next dollar is coming from. Wishing you all the best and that your next situation is amazing.
My husband is a real estate appraiser and we saw it coming also. Made adjustments to our monthly expenses. Even with making those changes, it did not give as much breathing room as it should have. With groceries and just about everything else that has gone up so much it's mind-blowing! We will hang on and ride this roller-coaster the best we can. After graduating into a recession in the early 90s and then suffering unemployment in the Dot Com Bubble Implosion of 2001, I learned skill diversification is key. It’s like mixed martial arts - do not rely on just one skill in on area. A one dimensional Java developer would face a tough job search. But if the skills were diversified to include defense security clearance and aerospace engineering, then the job search gets easier.
I turned a layoff into one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I launched a TH-cam and a business helping people do the same and proud to say I've fully replaced my income (and then some). Navigate the murky waters in the beginning, but have a plan. You may find a sweet ending to your story as well. Good luck with the job search and I'm sure you'll land squarely on your feet!

I lost my job back in 2019 right before Covid hit. I felt like a complete failure but God had bigger plans. Sometimes he removes us from situations that we would of otherwise never left on our own only to place us right where he needs us to be. God has a plan!

Exactly. The problem is we get so used to feeling safe doing the same routine that when we change things up it's scary. We associate out identity with our jobs and feel lost. Change is good. Apply for unemployment, take a few weeks to get things in order and figure out what you want to do now. It will be ok and work out. Sending prayers for peace.

@@Iaintbrokenomo I did work remote, but not everyone in tech works remote. A lot of tech companies are having people go back to the office. Most likely I won’t be working for another big tech company. They aren’t hiring Recruiters, they are laying them off instead. LinkedIn and Twillo just laid off a ton of Recruiters yesterday and Disney is about to layoff 7k people. I’m going to assume many of them are going to be Recruiters. There are not a ton recruiting roles available right now and most of them are hybrid or fully onsite.

This might sound crazy but since you have the talent acquisition experience, why not do videos talking about what managers should look for in potential candidates. Also, what someone looking for a job should do/say in an interview...resumé advise, etc. Your channel will probably blow up.

The first thing you do is celebrate and treat yourself to a fabulous meal. Congratulate yourself on the great job you did, and then get a good night's sleep and start looking for another job the next day. This is normal anytime you work in the corporate world. Always begin with the end in mind, as Stephen Covey said. Believe me, it works!!

That’s a great idea! I will definitely make a series of videos taking everyone along on my job search. I’m so used to helping other people find jobs as a Recruiter, it’s weird to be on the other end.
I was ahead of the curve: I was laid off in November. I'm currently working at a counter-service seafood restaurant, and really knuckling down on my budget, living paycheck to paycheck while I figure out what comes next. I can't imagine how scary it is to be a mother in this position. May we all endure the lean times, and come out on the other side with experience and wisdom.
Don't sweat it too much. You will look back years from now at this episode of your life and see it as the next great opportunity it will turn into. I speak from the tech field and with experience in working at multiple places that have gone out of business. Pretty much the same thing as being let go but without any safety nets or severance in those cases. One day you go to work and are told you will be staying to "turn off the gear and turn out the lights". Every time, I and every one else I worked with bounced back better and higher. Breathe ! This too shall pass. :)

My mom has been laid off from mid level marketing 3 times in 6 months. She FINALLY got a job last week. And it’s the same job she was offered, but declined for her last position due to the cost of healthcare benefits. It’ll all work out!

2001, 2002, 2009 were my years of layoffs in the tech industry. You'll get through it - it is a bit tougher getting the same kind of job in tech being non-technical. I am a developer but back in 2001 and 2002 it took many weeks (2002 was 6 weeks or so) to find a another job. Anyway, I've been through it 3 times and back out the other side. You'll be ok! Yep, 2001. There had been rumors, our supervisor couldn’t say anything but dropped hints (“ this is not a good time to make large purchases.”). I figure I’d beat the rush and quit early 2001. I knew I wanted a job where I didn’t have to work nights, holidays, & weekends-I was in tech. I worked in a bookstore, learned to drive a bus, did security and finally got my dream job with my own office. Stayed there till I retired 12 yrs later.
You will find another job. Just stay strong. It is terrible that companies are becoming ruthless with no human touch. God bless you and your son. You will definitely come out of this stronger and better.

My family is going through this right now. Even with a degree in IT and many years of experience, he is being laid off. Getting the max in unemployment does not even pay the mortgage here in CA. I went to lunch with the HR manager and was told I would get a promotion on my next review. I had free lunch at Olive Garden. After driving back to the office, my badge didn’t worked. The company logo outside the building was covered in plastic tape and I knew I was laid off.
Lesson learned. Don’t fall for free lunches.

I was amongst one of the first round of layoffs in tech a year ago. Its been pretty crazy! I was quite fortunate, besides a couple of freelance gigs here and there, I managed to land on a fairly stable tech company. Admittedly I have been trying to leave this job because its a constant fire-drill. But its been difficult because its hard to get a switch jobs now. So I try and remain grateful that I have a job until I find something else. Anyway, ALOT of people have lost their jobs this year. We're all in this together.
Thank you for sharing. I lost my job a couple of years ago. It felt like my world came crashing down. In retrospect, it’s best I parted ways because it wasn’t working out, but the sense of defeat and failure was all-encompassing when it happened. What I learned is that the only thing you can control, is your own mental health and your job performance. For me, these two are intricately linked. Over time, some doors will close. But other doors open. Hope you get a new job soon!!
So sorry. It can be a punch in the gut. When I was younger, I was told I was laid off from a corporate job the morning after working until 2 in the morning to finish a project that was needed. Two weeks later, I was already hired by another company. This experience made me realize that everyone is even every payday. I don't owe them anything and they don't owe me anything. This mindset served me well through the rest of my career. Don't look back just look forward.

Unreal, I've been laid-off in the construction industry in 2008. I didn't have a need to give a play by play. Instead of doing a tik tok or YT video. I just obtained new skills and became an electrician. It really is not hard, but you do have to get out of your safe zone and become an adult.
The reason why companies have to layoff. Most especially tech is because of the interest rate being higher than zero. Most tech companies got over leveraged for the past 10 years, thus creating a bubble, but now that US FED has increased interest rate, most of those companies can't borrow money for free, so hence the layoff, also the stock prices of these companies have dropped also due to high interest rate. It's all to fight inflation. Sorry for losing your job

Getting laid off is tough! Give yourself a little time to grieve, but then remember it is an opportunity to reassess what you want and find something better. I'm sure that there will be something much better in store for you. Perhaps it's sticking with IT, or perhaps it will be a whole new field. New opportunities can be very exciting!
Laid off in September 2022 and still unemployed now. Tons of applications and 4 interviews and no hires. Former IT network tech. Company shutdown. Sucks not working.

I got laid off from my engineering job when the pandemic came but oddly enough I never actually stopped doing work for them. It's design work so I can WFH but I'm no longer officially employed, though I was getting severance pay for a while. Now they're just paying me by the project. It was the strangest firing.🤔 Anyway good luck with your job search. The job market is pretty tight right now and skilled labor is in demand. You'll do fine.

@@seriejohnson698 most of it is things like marketing and technology, there will always be manual labor jobs open all the time, they are too big for them to layoff any of the workers that actually run the parks and hotels, I have worked at Universal already and the amount of people that apply, get hired and quit before they even get past training its absurdly high, like 50%+ to put it safely, and those that make it past training a lot quit in less than 3 months. Its not because the jobs are demanding, people just think they can get away with a lot of stuff while working in those places and they are very quick to fire people off.

I’ve been laid off in September 2021 after 26 years. I got a one year severance. I was soooo miserable the last two years at that company so I was kinda ok with it. My mom also passed the year before which turned my life upside down and to this date I’m still grieving and crying for her.
Things will get BETTER for you !!! I now work in a total different industry and did I tell you I’m 50+ so I thought I would work at my previous employer until retirement or close to it.

In 2022, I got laid off the day after my 10 year anniversary and right before Christmas. I was also going through a divorce. I was devastated.
I was never going to leave my marriage (15 years). However, I was being abused in every way. My job paid very well but was toxic. I was never going to leave my toxic job because I had a family to support and no one would pay me the salary I was earning. Everyone said this company pays above and beyond the industry standard.
I now have a dream job and peace in my home.

I feel for you and hope things get better soon! I was laid off in 2019 and again at the beginning of the pandemic (also in tech) and the biggest hit for me was finding purpose in my every day routine so your thoughts about the immediate aftermath resonates so much.

He is loving the fact that I am now picking him up from school now instead of my mom who watched him after school for me while I worked. He made sure to tell his entire class and teachers that his mom lost her job. He thinks it’s a good thing because it’s more time with mom! 😂 I did love my Dyson, but it recently broke so I had to get a new vacuum that isn’t a Dyson. I still need to take off the charger from the wall. I’ll get to it eventually!

Let me share my layoff experience. I got laid off when the tech bubble burst during the early 2000s. I can't find work for 3 years. I lost 2 of my teeth because I didn't have dental care. I actually had a cracked and infected tooth in my mouth for months and I was spitting out blood on a daily basis. My family abandoned me. My mom actually told me not to call until I find work. Things got so bad that I actually considered being a nurse. When I finally got work, it was with a contracting agency that took more of the money. Yeah, layoffs build character.
I have every confidence that you are completely hireable. You seem like a very dedicated/hard worker. Let us know when you get that new job. I am positive great things are on the horizon for you and your son.

However I had no warning just an impromptu meeting appeared on my calendar with HR my manager and others receiving the same devastating news as me. So now I’m trying to stay busy and not think about it so much because I get angry all over again

I got laid off twice in 4 years, the second worked out for the best as I was able to be home with my kids during the pandemic, plus somehow i made more money being laid off then as i was working.
I thought IT would be the best career ever. Scary seeing those jobs, lost. Just keep positive and getting back to work asap, don't get use to not working.

I don’t understand why these companies don’t treat the people they lay off with decency.
I know there are layoffs... and sometimes there's nothing we can do about it... BUT- the way it was done... OMG, in my origin country (Israel) that is so illegal !!! An employee needs to be handed a hearing invite note, explaining that this is a hearing about their employment and what will be discussed there (for example- company cut-downs, productivity, tardiness, etc...) - 24 hours at least before that hearing !!
Some choose to say- I don't need the warning- let's go into the hearing, but it is still mandatory.
As a fellow TH-camr- my heart is with you. Even though I have not been employed for years now... (was fired from my IT job when I started showing symptoms of PTSD)
Maybe this will be the beginning of an epic new journey, focusing more on TH-cam (you could also take some of the ideas for DIY projects you're making and turn them into classes to upload to skillshae...) OR- hoping you'll find employment soon.

I feel I must be from another planet or something. I have never felt connected to a corporate job in this way that I didn't understand that we are all just cogs in a giant wheel and really not that relevant to the operation or concern of the company. This is probably the reason I have resigned after 3 or 4 years at any company because that's all of my soul I was willing to give them.
Our youngest son is autistic. Those IEP meetings are gut wrenching. Any time I was between jobs I devoted it to our son and family life in general.
I have never been laid off, but I have heard many people say it's very emotional.

You just need to allow yourself to settle down for a while after an unwelcome '"surprise". We have to embrace it as part of life in working class society. Take this quite moment as opportunity to do what you were not seriously thinking before / wish to but didn't when you had a job. Eg : Go to gym, do yoga or whatever you like. No one is 100% dependent on a single company to survive. Just like love, not able to get the loved one to accept you doesn't mean there is no one else out there (despite we feel heart-breaking). As long we are healthy and be positive, just a matter of time for your new journey.
Through my career, I have been laid-off once and it took me 1 year to secure a new job. Life was horrible at that time (cutting expensive to the bear minimum). Looking back, that was 20 years ago and now, life is pretty decent. Hold in there, my friend.

I’ve been laid off 3 times since the age of 50. My average time back in the workforce was 6 weeks. I worked like a demon dawn to dusk networking and sending out resumes.
How is it legal to fire someone like that on the spot making them unemployed as of the next day? 🤯 This country cannot be real.

Majority of our tech department was cleaned up yesterday. We all got our notices however as per UK law they need to do a consultation for 45 days before handing over redundancy.

So sorry! I’m sure you’ll fine a better place to work. God laid it on my heart lately to prepare myself for a layoff. I’m noticing that they are hiring more people over seas and may fire me first since I’ve been there since 1998 so they may move the jobs to lower paid workers.
I was laid off during the pandemic. It all worked out for me at the end😊.
HAVING A DAY-JOB IS THE WORST THING POSSIBLE, WHICH EXPLAINS WHY SUCCESSFUL FOLKS AVOID THEM. IF YOU GOTTA HAVE ONE, THEN IT PAYS TO HAVE REAL-WORLD SKILLS THAT OFFER OPPORTUNITIES OUTSIDE OF OFFICE CULTURE. THE BEST CASE IS WHEN YOU WORK FOR THE WORK, AND NOT FOR REMUNERATION. BEING LAID-OFF IS A GREAT TIME TO RECONSIDER WHY YOU WANT A DAY-JOB IN THE FIRST PLACE. I’D BET THAT YOU DIDN’T LIKE YOUR JOB ANYWAY, IF WE’RE BEING HONEST.
My life story. I'll keep it vague so no one can figure who i am 😂. Got laid off in 2016 from my dream job after 2 years, got paid £30k a year. Got a job 5 months later(took longer cos we had a baby soon after so i only started my job search 3 months later), was getting paid 45k i did that job for 5 years. Then i changed job and got laid off after 3 months i was getting 150k, then i thought it's the end for me as i lost the jackpot but found another job 3 months later at 130k
I am very sorry that you were laid off. Know that you ate not the only one that have suffered this situation. Believe in yourself, your family and God to help you get through this difficult circumstance. It is NOT your fault. Unfortunately, USA companies do NOT value their employees, but this MUST change on the near future.

I have been laid off more times than I can remember. I have been fired a few times too. It is just part of a working lifetime. You will be fine. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! Now you will get paid to do what you want for a little while, Enjoy time with your son and dog. Before you know it, you will land a new gig and life goes on. 😉
