      I can understand why Vauxhall/Opal would hide it. As once the engine boils up and F**ks the cylinder head they'll be rubbing their hands together. Usually at the car owners expense.
      Sly, Dirty and Dishonest.
      Just got to look at the amount VW had to pay out because of a emissions fiddle on the PD engine.. Hmmm.. They German to aren't they.. LOL

      @@tonysilliker5977 I dont call YOU inexperienced. Read again! For a normal Person (who isnt that experienced like you) it isnt necessary to know the coolant temperature. @@octipuscrime It is a feature that you will only have, if you have the comfort-package (or how it was called). If you have 4electric window-openeners (front and back) than you have this feature. But if you really want it: It can easily be programmed. I've done it for my caravan, with only front-openers. Maybe you find a opel-service-point where they will program it for you for a tip of a few euros. Its really useful in the summer to let the heat out.

    Do you know that windshield wipers has a custom rythm mode?
    When pushing its lever up, you can chose between the 3 modes available; to get the timing that YOU want, simply disable windshield wipers ,put the lever down once, and then, after the interval you want (not too long though...), Push it up again. It will work at that timing you did.

    maybe you can pin my comment: There is another nice feature when you have the climate-automatic: After you switched off the engine and pull the key out, you can press the "auto"-button on the climate-control. The astra will try to hold the temperature as good as it can.
    The fan will stay on.
    So in the summer, when there is a littlebit of cool air left in the AC, it will use it, and it will pump outside air into the car to prevent from overheating in the sommer. Very useful, when you just fetch some stuff from the supermarket.
    In the winter it will use the heat of the engine to keep the cabin longer heated.

    Just another not so widely known feature. If you turn off the car and pull the key out of the ignition, if you press the turn signaling lever either left or right, the corresponding front and back (Daylight running light and taillight) will stay on until you press the lever again. This (I think) is meant to be used if you park at night at the side of the road, on a spot without other lights, so traffic can see you car and avoid it.

      Anything older than 2000-2002 max is clunky garbage in my opinion. Have in mind I'm comparing my 2000 Astra g 1.8 with these newer '' ahead of its time'' cars and I don' t get it how can anyone buy her if he owned the earlier model. The only thing Opel improved was more breakable parts, more problems with plastics, uglier designs and shorter working room. If you like Opel's newer designs you are mazohist!

    • @АлександърИванов-щ8ю
      @АлександърИванов-щ8ю 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like the older Opel, when they used to make good reliable vehicles. I drive Opel astra 1.8 and it is still running even with 300,000kms(not the real ones for sure) and I really like my car. It has a nice style, no electronic problems, a little bit of rust, but the frame is solid! And the engine is purring like a kitten. I also have bought her with Lpg and after some repairs of the front suspension, Lpg system and a few other changed things I am pleased with the vehicle.
      Also after I found out Amsoil and I've flushed my engine oil and put Amsoil she even runs better and has more power with all those kms and years! I suggest everyone to try Amsoil, also do like I do. I change my oil now every 15-16 000kms and I change the filter 2 times, because it is a small filter.
      I get 9,5-10 litres per 100kms with Lpg!

  • @mavrlik
    @mavrlik 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    ⚠ BEWARE ⚠ - in certain firmware versions, access to hidden menu causes random wake-ups of infotainment system if the vehicle is parked so the battery will be fully drained in 2-3 days! The way to reliably undo this problem is to disconnect the battery, wait a minute and then re-connect, so the infotainment is reset. (Then it is no longer in hidden menu mode. Hidden menu mode can be also switched off by the same button sequence as it is switched on, but I am not sure whether it is also as sufficient as disconnecting the battery to stop battery drain.)
    I learned this hard way, when I used temperature indicator all the time using "hidden menu" trick and car mechanics were not able to find cause of my battery drains for several years. All circuits seemed to be OK. Once I stopped using this mode and reset the system, the draining issue "suddenly" disappeared.

    • @dosgos
      @dosgos 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our Astra battery was draining quickly. Once we figured how to fix the CD30 radio button lights, battery drain went away. To fix radio button lights, we removed and fully disconnected radio (plus disconnected main battery) for a few hours; after that radio button lights worked and battery drain vanished.

      This is the same for most manufacturers but only if you have all-round electric windows. Ford started doing this in the 90s before remote locking came to, you used to be able to put the key in the door, hold it in position and it would close/open the windows and they carried it over to remote locking... Great feature and very useful generally...
      Unless you have a Mercedes then it's not so useful because you have to be within a metre or two for it to allow you to use the global window feature.

    You forgot to say that if you left "first feature" on then your car radio never goes to sleep, continues to draw significant power an in couple of days your battery is pretty much dead.
    This hidden menu could be disabled the same way it is turned on.

    • @4nzXxD

      To my experience this problems happend with a faulty radio unit, specifically with the sensor on cd port. Sometimes when you have no cd inside the unit thinks that the cd is on and the car radio never goes to sleep,continues to draw significant power and you run out of battery.

      @@4nzXxD I owned an astra h for 13years, and often used the mode, and talked about the missing feature with my opel-service-guy:
      He said, that you can't imagine, how many people came to them in the 90ies, when the temperature-gauge was higher than the middle. (90° mostly)
      And another fact: Most modern cars, that have a temperature-gauge don't show you the real temperature! Because of the reason above! So in reality a modern gauge is not really better than "no gauge, with warning light".
      Normal operating Temperature of the Z16XER was about 95° if i remember right. The older Z16XEP was even higher with 105°C.
      "Sir, i have a problem, my engine is always too hot!" -- "No it isnt."
      Thats why they did not put it in. A modern gauge shows crap. Always 90 if its in the right range. I just used the hidden-menu in the winter to see, when i can turn on the heater for the cabin. If it was not above 80°C i turned off the heater completely. Yes i loved my car. :D

    I have a question, please give me some advice. In this video when you switch the ignition on, the exterior light is turning on, too (green mark on the dashboard). My astra does the same, and when the engine is running I can't switch off the exterior light even if I put the light switch to "0", the lights are keep going. My light switch has an "auto" function, but when the ignition is on or the engine is running I can't turn off exterior lights at all, neither with '0', nor with 'auto' mode. Is there some setting to fix it? Thank you. My astra is 1,7 cdti from 2005, elegance with xenon.

    • @4nzXxD
      @4nzXxD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, when I have ignition on or when the engine is tunning, if I put light switch on 0 the light are always on. Main beam only turns off when I put light switch on parking lights.
      I think this is possible to switch off with original diagnostic tool:)

    • @sonntagskind84
      @sonntagskind84 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it can be programmed. The Astra H has different "daylight"-modes.
      In some countries you have to drive withe the headlights always on, so it can be programmed. My setting here in Germany was "off". So when i turned to zero, it always stayed of. When i turned it to "auto" it was switched on, when it gets dark (had the sensor for lights and wipers).
      I do not remember all possibilities, but they were "no lights", "only head parking lights with backlights on", "headlight+backlight on", "only headlights on". and another one. Just google that, and i am sure you will find the variations.
