I am a 65 year old woman who is fascinated by Nightwish! This has to be your best album ever. My son introduced me to Nightwish 2 years ago on a road trip. Please come to Salt Lake City Utah !
I remember my grandmother coming into my room exclaiming "What a beautiful voice [the singer has]!" upon hearing Nightwish' Walking In The Air. That was twenty years ago. She was your age then. We would be headbanging in the car when I picked her up from her choir.
I've been listening to Nightwish since I was 7 years old. I'm 27 now. Together with their music, I experienced the end of school, university, the pandemic, and the deaths of some of my family members. There were good events too, and also along with their music. All I can say is that Tuomas' music, Nightwish, is what supports me at any time. I am so happy to live at the same time with them.
@@chuggs2949 he’s either a very advanced kid can understand deep meaning of the lyrics alone or lucky to have great parents guiding him went through it
@@AlfaRomeo128 Does it really have to be either of those two? When I think back to when I was 7 years old, I'm not so sure. I didn't know "Semi-Charmed" by Third Eye Blind was about drugs until I listened to it again as an adult, but that never stopped me from rocking out to the song. I feel that there is far, far more to Nightwish than how deeply you can understand the lyrics.
@olyaryabeva Just like me! My parents used to listen to them, and so did I. I liked their songs even before I could understand English. Being able to understand the lyrics makes my love for this band even deeper 😁
Not one song that isnt downright amazing. I had never heard them before 2 days ago and Yesterwynde is already in my favorites. I will be spending the rest of this weekend listening to every album. Thank you for this masterpiece!
This song is absolutely peak Nightwish. Compositionally, lyrically, melodically I am obsessed with the beauty of this. It feels like the antithesis to The Poet and the Pendulum, I swear I even hear some melodies that reference it.
With The Poet and the Pendulum brought into context, I see the dots you connect but also offer this for consideration: An Ocean of Strange Islands is more a sequel, or perhaps even an addendum to TPATP. The ending of TPATP implies the mother figure at the song's end is directing the character (Tuomas, if we're being literal) to "find his shore," as he has "such oceans within." Hence the common core themes of discovery by looking into the past and toward the future. TPATP is surviving s*icide in a song, evidenced by the live performances where Tuomas essentially pantomimes beheading himself with the sound effect of the pendulum swinging. This song, and subsequent albums since Endless Forms Most Beautiful really feel as though Tuomas, the author and narrator of the Nightwish's music and universe, has discovered a beauty in living that many post-s*icidal people tend to land on, myself included. It's essentially saying "Fine. Since I'm forced to live as I was forced to be born, then I will see beauty in this world even if I have to create it myself." Or perhaps that's just a reach. Frankly, I could write whole essays on Tuomas's lyrics as if they were a literary classic in the broad academic sense lol.
This song embodies Nightwish's soul. It's like going on a ride through all of the band's eras, from the heavy drums and guitars to the bombastic orchestration to the softer tunes. It evoked awe and wonder and felt like taking a ride thru fantasy lands. I am so happy right now! Thank you, Nightwish! ❤❤
Exactly - I said, "I've heard this before - not a copy, certainly not the lyrics, but the overall feeling of the piece I've heard before from NIghtwish."
Want to be even more mindblown ? Tuomas says this song's lyrics has several meanings, the main one being a representation of life as an Ocean and the islands being the people you meet... But people have also theorized that another meaning might be Tuomas' own life with Nightwish and current and previous band members. Like "the retiree" who could be Marko. And if that's true, it would mean the musical influences from all the eras of the band could be extremely deliberate
It’s very similar to many Nightwish songs in that respect. It’s hardly anything new though, in fact, it’s very mid-late 2000 in its technical predictability. Tuomas has developed a dark side to his bitterness over the filmscore he’ll never be asked to write, even turning on his own inspiration Hans Zimmer in his criticism - wow Tuomas, you’re not in the same league for the very reasons you decided to twice rebuke his invitation backstage. Seriously, twice? Why twice? Like sending a message without ever being man enough to deliver it in person heh Tuomas? Hans remains clueless btw, maybe a third snub is needed?

I'd love to have seen Empuu and Floor's faces when Thuomas rolled this one off the demo track ... "Yeah, cheers mate... Just the seventeen tempo and key changes then?"
From what I have readat least Foor seems to be very unhappy with that. But like the fans say: It is what it is, and Tuomas intended it, so it must be great.
@@flowq3874 I mean Floor's allowed to have her own tastes in music but a song with a lot of tempo and key changes isn't intrinsically bad, it just depends on what you're looking for. I like complexity and variety in music, myself. Being too samey is boring.
Troy made me almost cry ffs. The ending was fucking beautiful and arguably one of the best pieces they've ever written. Movie quality soundtrack stuff right there
This is so... Nightwish! I'll describe this song in one word - complex, soaring, driving, haunting, heavy, grand, deep... Oh, who am I kidding, this is larger than any one word could describe. Every member of the band (orchestra, choir) expertly contributes to the whole. And it only gets better each time I hear it. Just sublime!
@@Booolicius I think it's not an easy thing to do one show; the band will have to put together many things to make this show special, and do all the rehearsals and promo; this work can hardly be paid off by one show, but perhaps I'm wrong; in general I understand that they just probably want to live their lives; and it's good for them :)
I know we want to see them again but please, respect their desire to take a well earned break. They've all been through so much in the last 3 years and they've given us so much. I won't grudge them the break.

What a fantastic job Thuomas. This is the true spirit of symphonic Metal, typical of the early 2000s. This is one of the most incredible songs I've ever heard from Nightwish, due to the super dynamic instrumental and orchestration, the mix of various elements and variable sounds, with highs and lows. This sound is impeccable, with Floor's voice as beautiful as always and her sensational nuances and variations, which only she is capable of doing. Thank you for presenting us with another masterpiece. We'll reach a million views soon.
Interesting... I was trying to interpret the visually amazing ending part of the video and what its meaning(s) could be - and ended up thinking there could be a visual reference to "Pharaoh Sails to Orion" kind of themes in it. If the song is interpreted to be about navigating through human life, then what else is the beautiful, slow, melancholy, somehow hopeful instrumental end part - other than about the inevitable death. The visuals in the ending part focus on the sail and the skies above. The sail shape pretty closely resembles a pyramid in those shots. The pyramids and ships were important tools in Egyptian mythology to help the pharaoh navigate in the afterlife. The beautiful final image where colors appear seems to reflect the image of the butterfly on top of the mast onto the sky above. A visual of the transition of the soul to the stars in the afterlife? Could even be about Tuomas himself as the song contains many references to the band and its other songs?
At the first time I listened to this, it felt familiar, but new. Or in other words refreshing, but still Nightwish. This feels like a really nice song to listen to, especially when you can just let your mind and imagination be free. These kinds of songs are my favourites in Nightwish repertoire. Every subsequent listening feels like it unlocks references to older songs, which is almost like a fun puzzle. Well made.
WOW ! WOW ! WOW ! This is an amazing rollercoaster ride of EPIC magnitude ! You have to listen to it again straight after the first time because you certainly missed something first time round ha! The reason is because of the production of ALL the little parts that are in the background ! I am a massive Rock Fan and i have to say that the Drumming on this track is one of the BEST i have EVER heard ! How the hell he got the speed and tempo is mind blowing ! It changes many times in the 9 + mins to ! I think this is the best Nightwish Album for YEARS !
This song is a smasher. It's almost like Romanticide meets Poet and the Pendulum meets The Siren. 🎉 Some of the bass lines remind me of the grittiness in Endlessness too. Here for it
Merci Nightwish, merci Floor, merci Thuomas!...
What a masterpiece!!! There are no words that can adequately express the emotional impact of this song... The interpretations one can make are numerous...For me, we are all wayfarers of our own ship...buffeted and tossed on the sea that is life..The butterflies, in particular, are symbolic of transformation and renewal...bueaty that is short lived..Take the helm of your own ship...even when lost, your inner compass will always lead you home... yes, every instrument reminds me of a different era of nightwish and it is like a tale.... A tale for us... For them...
This reminds me of Ghost Love Score merged with Shudder Before The Beautiful. Both of which are phenomenal songs. Well done.
This is like being wrapped in a warm nightwish comfort hug
Floor’s voice, man… I just can’t. 🥹 I’ve been a huge fan since I was 16! I’m 37 now. I do hope we get to see this one live one day. ❤️
Only top musicians can deliver such a masterpiece. Floor with a lot of text, Kai is phenomenal again, as are Empuu and Jukka and certainly not to forget Troy. What a genius Tuomas is. Forever a big fan of Nightwish. Thank you.🤟🏻🤟🏻🎶🎶
@@mkgym do not shoot me please, but it is Emppu, not Empuu (would not point that out otherwise, but have noticed lately a lot times his name misspelled)... no biggie.

Troy is an amazing instrumentalist
Many times along the Nightwish journey I’ve been left utterly speechless. This song is certainly one of those moments. I just don’t have words to convey my emotions right now. What a beautiful powerful display of amazing musicianship. This band is a blessing. Period. That outtro has me sitting here in tears. I’m mind blown. Love it. Love them.
Still processing the first listen... Even after 26+ years with NW, their new material can still make me feel like an ape who just found the Monolith...
What a song!!!
The new orchestrations are phenomenal!!! Floor's voice exceptional us always.... The whole band nailed it!!! 🤘🤘🤘
An absolute banger 🙏😊👍❤️
Amazing ❤❤
Totally agree...powerfull...impressive parts headbanging .. but also touching parts crying..breath taking lyrics...and so creative ....a unique band with a already classic song..a masterpiece
One of the better Nightwish songs of the last decade. Huge props to everyone involved.
This is Ghost Love Score , Greatest Show on earth levels epicness
😊
Mesmo isso! Surreal ❤
The pipes gave me the chills!! The whole song sounds incredible. So glad to be alive at the same time as Nightwish
@@catalinanavarrete9282 does anyone know the proper name for the instrument (pipes) near the end of the song? I'm curious!
@@jasonleary604I think they are ullean pipes. Not sure if that is the right spelling though.
@@jasonleary604Actually the spelling is uilleann. Just looked it up.
Finally! I can't believe it! I thought I would never listen to something like this from Nightwish ever again!!! I love this song so much!!! It's been years since a song brought tears to my eyes.😭😭😭
Amen. Really haven't enjoyed the other singles, and didn't like most of the last album but this is the one!
Same, its been a very long time since I've loved a song from Nightwish as much as this one
There's music and then there's Nightwish
This song just sounds like every other Nightwish song all wrapped up into one and it's absolutely amazing! You guys outdid yourself once again we your fans of the Nightwish army thank you from the very core of our musical souls
I truly needed my soul to be soothed like this today, Nightwish isn't just music, it is healing audio therapy. Thank you
I'd love to have seen Empuu and Floor's faces when Thuomas rolled this one off the demo track ...
@@flowq3874 What's your source for that claim?
This song to me is one the best i have ever heard.
Troy playing the pipes at the end is so haunting it sounds like a lament.
Thank you Nightwish!
Please one concert with an audiance that you record? No touring but just one real concert for us all??
I think in 2026. In an interview, Tuomas said that they will celebrate the band's 30th anniversary in a big way.
They said that they would be not be touring in support of the next studio album, but maybe even one show? its not a tour if its a only one show 😎
I concur!!!❤
@@Booolicius I think it's not an easy thing to do one show; the band will have to put together many things to make this show special, and do all the rehearsals and promo; this work can hardly be paid off by one show, but perhaps I'm wrong; in general I understand that they just probably want to live their lives; and it's good for them :)
I know we want to see them again but please, respect their desire to take a well earned break. They've all been through so much in the last 3 years and they've given us so much. I won't grudge them the break.
Kai is killing it on the drums 🔥
Seems like he could use a little more energy. 😂
He always is. drummer of the highest order. There are of course better, Danny Carey for exeple, but in this genre, Kai is the MVP.
Tuomas Holopainen says of this song that it is about people we meet throughout our lifetime. Each person representing an island.
beautiful
Actually it's about a real story
bla bla bla
No man is an island, entire of itself ...
I can’t stop listening to this amazing, brilliant song. Thank you Nightwish for being a part of my life story. No words can describe or make justice how beautiful this song is. Truly special!
In my opinion one of the best Nightwish songs, a true epic piece of art.
It should be the last song of the album, that OUTRO is perfect to finish it.
I agree with you 1000% but at the same time I feel like this could be the opening track aswell 😂
Yes i agree too.
Good old Nightwiiish!! It sounds like Poet and the pendulum and Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean ALL TOGETHER!!! Favourite band gives goosebumps after so many years still!! Thank you for staying yourself in the best possible way!
7:15 this sequence brought tears to my eyes. Id say this part is the best piece if music they've ever written. No words. If you havent heard this part of the song, PLEASE listen!
I love how they go from a very heavy section to this quiet section and it still feels perfectly logic as one and the same song.
This song is an essence of all of the good Nightwish melodies!
Does anyone know why i am not able to do a comment in the main thread, only answer comments???
Oh my fucking god, this song is insane. Definitely what I was hoping for
Really?? You were hoping for ... insanity ???
Perfection song! 😱😱😱
Absolutely amazing song! Happy to be alive same time as Nightwish, thanks Tuomas!!
Right.
Nightwish was my introduction to the metal genre all the way back with the album "Once". Dark Chest of Wonders blew me away all those years ago. This song made me feel exactly how I felt when I first heard Nightwish. I'm stunned.
Please Toumas, never stop composing these epic saga's of musical expression. Every song from Nightwish is beautiful and spine tingling To every fan and very member that has ever been, Thank you for bringing life back into music for me with your Rock-pra!❤
Masterpiece Song, Masterpiece Album!!!

WOW.. that was powerful... What a masterpiece! It could go easily to the top favorites of any Nightwish fan!
The best part is from 0:00 till 9:26 🤘🏼🤘🏼
So true ; )
I'm 70 and since the beginning Nightwish has fascinated and surprised me! Keep it up! Bravo!
I am 61, and feeling the same way. Love their music❤️.
I am so full of joy with the prospect of a new album. Old sounding music, new sound, and everything in between on this album. Good luck, Nightwish, on your new album release and enjoy your well deserved break!
you know its a masterpiece when you feel goosebumps on firsts listen
Exactly
I can't imagine how Floor can remember the whole album lyrics 🤯

What an amazing song. Sounds really fresh while resurrecting a blast from the past. Yesterwynde is a great album
Monumental track. I've been listening to your music for 20 years now... And this track hit me like thunder. What a rollercoaster of emotions : I feel devastated and ecstatic at the time. I don't know how you do it but you always manage to make me smile and cry at the same time. Man, that track was beautiful. So, so, so beautiful. Thank you.
Another masterpiece from the genius that is Toumas and the sublime performances of Floor, Empou, Troy and Kai. Can't wait for the 20th!!! I love how Toumas weaves themes and emotions throughout all his compositions, blending rock and folk with classical.
Amazing!! beautiful lyrics, beautiful composition, beautifully arranged, beautifully played and beautifully sung. So far I’m blown away by Yesterwynde thank you all for bringing your music to the worls
How is this possible that this composition goes on for almost 10 minutes and no second of it is boring ? Well done, Nightwish. Truly a symphonic poem.
This might be my favorite song, and I'm only halfway way through. Perfume of the Timeless was really good, but this just gives me older Nightwish vibes. Reminded me why I fell in love with this band to begin with.
I am truly blessed to be alive at the same time as Nightwish. ❤
You have changed my life, Nightwish
same here :)

Ein Kunstwerk... wie das ganze Album .... man kann es gar nicht oft genug hören ❤😊
The end with the pipes is outstanding
What a fantastic job Thuomas. This is the true spirit of symphonic Metal, typical of the early 2000s. This is one of the most incredible songs I've ever heard from Nightwish, due to the super dynamic instrumental and orchestration, the mix of various elements and variable sounds, with highs and lows. This sound is impeccable, with Floor's voice as beautiful as always and her sensational nuances and variations, which only she is capable of doing. Thank you for presenting us with another masterpiece. We'll reach a million views soon.
Very strong song, the end with the Uilleann pipes turn it in to a very haunting song.
Massive "Pharao Sails to Orion" vibes in the first parts of the song. I like it!
How is Nightwish sounding even thicker and mightier than ever before
At the first time I listened to this, it felt familiar, but new. Well made.
They're still killin it! Amazing song!
WOW ! WOW !
Here for it
Best song of the album
Easily my favourite of the songs released so far! It feels fresh and yet the most nostalgic, which is a great combo.
Definitely one of the best songs they ever did! Nightwish is more alive than ever!
Wow, I LOVE this song! Especially that bridge at 5:09. I wish that part was longer, I could listen to that forever. 🤩
Hört sich an wie die Anfänge von Nightwish! Hab es so geliebt und das hier liebe ich auch!!!!
This one made me cry so hard... The old magic of Nightwish is right here in this song. Nightwish, my deepest solace lies in you
I need this whole album now!!!!!!!!!! What a masterpiece of art you all created
What is left to say? THANKYOU NIGHTWISH...❤❤❤❤❤
I am LOVING this song so far! I can't wait to hear the rest of the album !!!
Outstanding score. For me the best from upcoming album. Waiting for more! Long live Nightwish!
