I became aware of that entrance on September 30, 1977 when I visited Graceland, shortly after Elvis' death. My mother, brother and I actually met Billy Smith that day. He came down that entrance on his golf cart and chatted with us. He was so very friendly and nice. I have pictures of him on his golf cart and with my mom. You can see over his shoulder that entrance. We were fortunate to have met Vester Presley and he was so gracious and allowed us pictures with him and gave us his autograph. I took a picture of the Graceland Christian Church sign that day too. My brother walked along side of the white fence and took pictures of the backyard. He took pictures in a sequence and we put them together to make a panoramic view and they turned out great. Remember, that was back in the day when you had to have film developed. I took pictures of Charlie Hodge stopping at the gate to enter Graceland as he chatted with Vester Presley. We signed the rock wall and photographed that and our day was complete. How exciting! We visited the mausoleum at Forest Hill Cemetary on October 1, 1977 but learned that Elvis and Glady's bodies were being moved the next day. It was a whirl wind trip to Tupelo, Memphis then on to Nashville, Tn. A trip I will never forget!

Wow you were there on a very eventful weekend for sure.. Had to be a banner day.. Did you get any pics at the mausoleum?

@@SpaGuy Yes, I have pics of the mausoleum from the outside. Entrance roped off with floral cross arrangement at top of stairs. I have my pic beside the arrangement. There probably were no more than a dozen people there. That was my only visit to Memphis. Would love to visit Graceland but it would be a solo trip and I have heard bad things about Memphis area so guess that won't happen. I was fortunate to see Elvis in concert 6 times. The last concert was in Macon, Ga on June 1, 1977, shortly before his passing. Thanks for all your videos as I really enjoy them!

I've never been the same since we lost elvis in 1977. A piece of me went with him. The world is a little bit worse off within Elvis. Everything seemed well when we had Elvis. Still have to remind myself that Elvis is no longer with us. Seemed like I knew him personally.

Have to admit it our first time to Graceland as my Dad talked to Uncle Vester he told me about the gate back there ELVIS had just passed so you couldn't go on the grounds yet funny thing was I climbed the wall to look at Graceland as I'm sitting there two little dogs come barking running my way next thing I hear was a lady yelling at me later I found out it was Aunt Delta oh the funniest part was yet to come I jump down off the wall and think a brick I'll take a brick off the wall for a souvenir great idea until I came around the corner and my Dad and Uncle Vester were still talking my Dad looked like he wanted to kill me but Uncle Vester kind of laughed it off hey I was a 14 year old kid and I'm a Graceland so I was super excited. Peace and GOD Bless You ALL from Saginaw Michigan Dontoons

Thanks to you, Spa Guy, our trip to Graceland was amazing! We stood at the side-gate entrance looking in, when all of a sudden, it opened.... I thought it was a gift from God. While debating if we could walk through, a grounds keeper went by on his golfcart laughing, then the gate closed. It was magical for a moment! Thank you Spa Guy!!

Nice job documenting and researching this as always, Billy. I was lucky enough to be able to go down that driveway on the side of the EPE offices and through a security gate back in 2006. I won't mention the person's name, but I was a personal guest of a personal friend of Elvis. This individual drove, went through security and delivered something personal to the employees during Elvis week. Again, I don't want to share their information in this forum, but I will be glad to tell you privately Billy, if you are interested.
Then, during the candlelight vigil, I spent the night on that very hill that you were standing on. Because of being a private guest of that same individual, my wife and I were granted access to that hill for vigil night. We had camp chairs and blankets. There was an inflatable movie screen set up and we were able to watch Elvis concert performances all night while taking turns doing shifts as honor guard. It was a very special time that I will treasure forever.

Great info Billy. Somewhere between that convenience store and the shopping area, I was sitting in my car one day in 1975 outside a Barbeque restaurant just watching the activity at Graceland. In a few minutes the black limo rolled in from the South toward the gate and it slowed quickly as Elvis stared me down. I was sitting in my black 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix. Years later I learned that he really liked the Pontiac Grand Prix and the Stutz Blackhawks were built on the Grand Prix chassis.

My wife and i went on a tour of ep home in the 80s aunt delta was in kitchen was very limited tour. Things were ropped off. Graceland has changed so much i live in indpls. After ep s death charley hodge and others brought ep belongings to a place where we could see them west side of the city near airport. Watched movies in his theater seen his vehicles garments weapons and collections. Great experience . Times have changed so much ep was a very lonely man searching for love and actually total friendship of good people he never forgot his roots. He gave and help poor folks like dt. He missed his younger growing up in the church of the living GOD. he never forgot it. He cherrished every moment of gospel music and spiritual up bringing, which most folks dont talk about. GOD BLESSED THAT MAN WITH A VOICE AND A CHIRMATIC STYLE TO THE POINT WHERE IT WAS VERY RECOGNIZABLE THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER. HE WAS SHORT LIVED ONLY APPROXIMATELY 22 YRS. OF FAME AND FORTUNE. HIS SONG FAME AND FORTUNE TELLS IT ALL. HIS SONGS GAVE YOU EXPEDIENT SURGING MOMENTS OF HIS PERSONALITY IN WHO HE ACTUALLY WAS. HE WAS LONESOME MISSED HIS MOM SOO MUCH. HIS LIFE CHANGED DRASTICALLY AFTER HER DEATH. HE LOVED DAD AND FAMILY, BUT NOBODY COULD FILL GLADYS SHOES. THEY WERE VERY CLOSE. BONDED THROUGH LIFE. HE TRIED TO FILL HIS LIFE WITH HAPPINESS AND JOY BUT ONLY GOD CAN TAKE CARE OF THAT. CARS DONT MAKE YOU, HOMES WONT MAKE YOU AND MAN CANT CHANGE YOU. ONLY JESUS CAN SATISFY YOUR SOUL. WHEN WE LEAVE THIS WORLD YOU CANT TAKE IT WITH YOU. HE TRIED IT ALL. GB TY JESUS FOR LIFE AND BIRTH OF PRECIOUS SOULS. AMEN!😊

Great video, really interesting to see the aerial phots over time, what is striking is how out in the countryside Graceland looked when Elvis bought it and how built up it became over the years. I wonder how Elvis would have liked or disliked the fact that it was no longer out in the countryside, did it loose any of its sanctuary or remote appeal over the years he lived there or had he lived on after 77 how might he have felt about it.

    • @SpaGuy

Yes, I often thought this too, he could have created a Circle G at Graceland had they purchased the additional lands around. I often think Elvis had no real time to stop and think, as he worked solidly, maybe like many of us do as we get older we get time and opportunity to engage with our passions. I think with Elvis we will always be "what if" and sadly we can never know. Thanks for the reply @@dktk540

Also went through lisa marie plane when they brought it to indy airport after his death. Very unique plane had a great volume of memrobilia such a classic piece of equipment. Elvis had good taste. Very well chosen clothing, very well designed. He was different that made people interested in him as a person as a man as a celebrity, of special choices in life like no one else recognized in life. That made him special in the eyes of the people. No one was below him he respected you no matter who you were or where you came from. He acknowledged the poor when he saw them. He rewarded his friends, and other people who he felt would need it. His family and friends were his life they meant so much to him yet some set out to hurt him and lost his confidence and trust. He was hurt many times but tried to sing it off though you could see the sadness in his eyes and face as he sung to audiences in his performances. He was shy but friendly, always caring and thinking of others. Even in his moments of being at home in graceland was the best part of his life because thats where his family and friends were and good laughable joking times took place. He liked to play the piano and reminis while there. His voice will never be matched, nor his talent its once in a lifetime. Many people try to match it but there is always something somewhere missing. They will never be able to come close to his caliber od personallity. Only one Elvis Presley. Only one graceland and they are on tour. The man has been gon for over 50 + yrs. And he is still just as popular as ever. His legacy lives on, because of people like billy ( the spa guy). Ty billy GB. YOU MUST REALLY LOVE ELVIS. STAY SAFE YOUR AN AMAZING PERSON AND I KNOW YOU WORK HARD SO CONGRATS TO YOU. I TIP MY HAT TO A NICE MAN OF YOUR CALIBER. HOPE LIFE SERVES YOU WELL. TY😊

Loved it loved it loved it! After looking at all the old aerials - Elvis should have tightened up and bought most, if not all, the property around Graceland. The 1956 photos looks like he's out in the country. So sickening to see how quickly the city encroached upon his privacy. No one around in the early days. Now - Graceland has hardly any property at all. Just amazing to see then and now. Lessons to be learned I guess if you're blessed with money and want to find that perfect getaway.

Well done as always, friend, as I know it takes quite an investment of time, but I hope you love it as much as we all do! From various pictures, and yours included, it seems like a small little village in the area of the side gate. As if memory serves me, I believe I once saw a light blue Cape Cod style home back there, as well as several concrete type structures where I had thought the guys might stay. Photos of that area seem very hard to come by. Any idea as to those brick structures & other things, while a great pic of Billy and Joe's place, as well as Tish's.
P.S. I was just thinking, too, but the attraction of Elvis always amazes me. As we're about the same age and I, too, was crawling through the trees in the late 80s. lol

I think I’ve been driven that way once, around 13 years ago. Hard to say exactly where I was. I was taken with some others, possibly by golf cart, around the left side of the house and up a back way. From what I could tell, it looked like there was more to the house area than they show you on the tour. And I was taken to some building back there where there was kind of a security office. That’s all I remember. But interesting stuff.

I went to school in Mississippi during the 1970’s.A history teacher of mine claimed that her friend lived in one of the houses that was on the back side of the property and said that Elvis would knock on her door.He would go through her house and call someone then go out the back door and jump the fence and have someone to pick him up and drive to his house. We were skeptical that it was true.

It's there. Or it used to be. I lived in Memphis on Winchester and rode my bike to the big white fence and kept going until someone stopped me and told me I was not allowed to be there. This was in the 70's. There were horses there too. 1971 to be precise.

On the Graceland Christian Church webpage their history section says that they remained at the location next to Graceland from October 1956 to 1989 when EPE purchased the land to expand their facilities. They moved their church to Stateline Road East in Southhaven, Mississippi. Their write up mentions Grace Toof, Mrs. Moore and Elvis in the history.

The road that is behind the Graceland guest house, was it put there when they built that hotel for easy access to the building where they keep the special items? I notice that it closely joins the area where the other entrance use to be, or where the wedding chapel might be now.

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Les gens n'ont vraiment aucun respect pour la vie privée.

Ive seen pictures where Elvis is at the gate when the wall etc was being built. In the picture you can see across the street and there is nothing but an old house. Graceland was at that time in the country on an two lane country road.

I have to check my photos I was at Graceland in 1988 and have a picture of the same sign out front with the one A on it if that’s so I have to check that out I also signed the wall a little to the left of that sign I took photos of the whole outside and out front of the main house and back where the horses were at the time of my visit cool to know this stuff I hope to get back there to show my wife it. I should of bought photos I seen on eBay the photos were at the back of Graceland someone took photos over the wall there was a swing set back in the late 70s I guess it was Lisa’s swing set the photos were rare snapshots I hesitated to buy them they were cheap and when I went back for them they were gone but they were nice shots of the back of Graceland I never seen before the person who took the photos said they had to climb the wall quick to take them
