Freightliner M2 - Amrep HX-450-ASL Garbage Truck

- Here we have an unusual pairing: an Amrep HX-450-ASL ("Elliptical") on a natural gas powered Freightliner M2 cab and chassis! As many of you know, I'm not typically the biggest fan of automated side loaders on conventional cabs, but something about this pairing actually looks really nice together! In my opinion, the curves of the cab really compliment the rounded off features of the body very well. Aside from that, this truck operates very nicely! The arm is fast, but smooth, and this truck was able to knock out a considerable amount of route in the short time that I followed. To make this video even more interesting, this truck is seen here handling both the typical US-style trash carts, and well as European-style "wheelie bins" and handles both with ease! Anyways, without further ado, kick back and watch this beauty of a truck knock out some residential garbage route! I hope you all enjoy!

You're right Bryn Freightliner Conventional Amrep ASL's do look good but with a Labrie Automizer IMO just looks stupid, maybe just because my yards full of Automizers on LEU's IDK, anyway great video Bryn.

Still not sure I like it, but does have a peculiar appeal with amrep. I wonder how it would look without CNG tanks up top--probably better. But I haven't gotten used to the Labrie versions of this! Nice shots anyway, I dig all the wheelie bins you could grab on video. And the extra "suction cups" added seem like they help this truck handle the variety of carts in Chico well, I don't imagine you saw any fall in?
+Trashman242 The CNG tanks up top definitely do take away from the "sleekness" of this combo for sure, I think a diesel version would certainly up the appeal. But, it really was a treat getting to see such an unusual truck handle such an equally unusual variety of carts. And nope, no carts were lost while we were watching! Seemed to hold a pretty tight grip on everything, even the skinny little 30's.
Nicely done video. i, at first, was not a fan of asl's on a conventional chassis as well, but like you its growing on me. as you can see the future if Chico is the typical green bodied rehrig's with the local phone number on them. as the city slowly reaches a dual franchise agreement with WM and Recology, 2 residential zones will be created and new carts will be distributed. thus, the end of days for the old north valley disposal, USA waste, and WM wheelies is coming. and just like the county areas around chico, the city's WM franchise zone will be flooded with green rehrig's with color coded lids. nice to see you this far south of your home, basically down in my backyard, and glad you got to film in the city of cool carts, chico CA.

I hear you, used to have the same view of the M2 as an ASL until following around the old Kann demo for a day. They really grow on you. Especially if they're the heavier duty version with a nice expanse of hood in front of the driver. Nice vid.
+georgewuzheer I'm definitely still picky about 'em, but not as picky as I was before this experience. I still think this thing would be butt ugly under any of Heil's bodies, and I'm still not real stoked about them being paired up with McNeilus either. But I gotta say, this actually looks pretty good with this Amrep, and as such, I'd really like to see one under a Labrie body in person now, since Labrie's bodies have some similar lines and curvatures to the Amrep Elliptical.
Is this in Chico? My grandmother lived up there, still have other family there too. It used to be North Valley Disposal before WM came in and bought them out in the late 90s/early 2000s. NVD used to run old Ford COE and White/Volvo chassis and Dempster Route King II and Heil 5000 RLs and had the same Euro style carts and associated tippers. Butte County was also one of the first in the state to mandate curbside recycling by the commercial haulers, which forced out of business one local hauler, Tom's Dispos-All
+brad202684 Yup, this was in Chico, Thursday route if I recall correctly. Definitely one of the more interesting WM yards in California, for both trucks and carts. Though, not nearly as interesting as what North Valley ran back in the day. It would be a blast to be able to go back and watch some old Route King's and 5000's knock out these routes. Nothing beats some good solid rear-load action in my opinion. Euro carts and tippers would just be the icing on the cake!
