    Put one of those puppies in a Jeep Liberty budget system for my nephew. Actually sounded great, to my surprise. Total cost of around a hunnerd bucks. Used Kenwood amp and MTX 12" subs for $40, Dynavox 6.5" woofers were $11/each, 2.75" fullrange Visiton at $12 a copy and cheap 8awg amp wiring kit for $10 and some passive filter components totalling $15. If this deck is just average clean (1% is a high and increases the chance of speaker damage, well it did 45 years ago) But the RCA OUTPUTS at .012% distortion is EXCELLENT for 10 times the price.

      @@walappreciate the response. that makes sense. This might be anecdotal but I feel like there can be a pretty big difference in output Even though the rating on the box says they are the same. I have a buddy with an entry level pioneer head unit from a few years ago that's rated 4x50 that he had to crank the volume up on it to get decent sound or of it. I gave him my old pioneer head unit that's a few rungs up the ladder but the same 4x50 rating and he said that the output was a lot better. Totally possible it's placebo but you're the guy with the lie detector who can prove it. I think there may also be a market to explore in Android head units from China. Amazon has quite a few options but they're all over ali express and temu. I know the head unit I picked up has some surprising output from its tda7850 chip Even though it's also rated at 4x50. You do you, I'll watch either way. Cheers

      @jp1087 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danielstillmaker4248 While the output ratings on both head units is the same, your unit that was higher up on the ladder most likely had better sound processing or eq's built in and he was hearing the result of that. An example would be a unit with a 12-band eq vs a unit that just has bass, treble, and high settings. When getting into quality aftermarket head units, most people don't care about their power output, because they wind up using aftermarket amps. It's more about the control features and sound processing capabilities that the head unit has to offer. The downside with aftermarket units nowadays is that it is becoming increasingly more and more difficult to replace head units in newer cars because they already have sizable screens features built in, some have screens and factory amps in separate locations, and some cars have so much more going through the head unit than just music. Most people will just swap the speakers, add in amplifiers and DSP to get better/louder sound, and retain the stock head units. In terms of the Android units from China, you get what you pay for. I have a $700 Sony Android unit in my Yukon that has been flawless for 6 years. I just update the firmware whenever one comes out. My friend put one of those cheap 10-inch Amazon Android units in his car and wound up taking it out and returning it two days later.

    I’ve been laughed at many times when I tell people that auxiliary input has the capability to perform better than usb or Bluetooth depending on the DAC in the head unit and the source being fed into the auxiliary port.
    I’ve had people literally call me an idiot for saying it , because it’s almost never the case because nearly all head units have an adequate DAC , but in extreme situations like this , it’s absolutely true.

      True, but most new head units (or phones) don’t have the “headphone jacks” anymore. I hate that! Avoiding the need for MP3 decoding removes the chances of cheap components ruining sound quality and just generally makes things simpler if you can just pump pure sound signal into an amplifier. To me, most Bluetooth in a car stereo sounds about like AM radio signal quality. USB is about as good as it gets these days (not really bad at all) and, honestly, any loss in sound quality is still worth it to me over CDs or cassettes of the past. As long as you have your phone and some data signal, at least you can always find something good to listen to.

    ! Same stereo as the XDM16BT Over 3 years ago, only changes are the Face design and the app control! But Overall a Great Basic Radio with USB and Bluetooth capability for the price. Although you may need to press the reset button once or twice due to weird function after trying Bluetooth Calling for the first one or two times but then it works flawlessly! I think It's the same stereo inside that is sold under the JBL brand with a different Face! Could be wrong but it does seem like it. Lasted for over 3 Years now! The Blaupunkpt didn't so Build wise it wins for the price!

    My local Wally World has this radio in a package with four 6.5” two way Dual speakers, all for $30!! I’ve been seriously thinking about picking this package up and hanging on to it for my next project.
    I’m currently using two of these radios. One in my cargo camping trailer connected to a set of 4” components and a single 6.5” dual voice coil woofer. It sounds decent!
    In my shed, I’ve got one of these Dual radios powering a JP8 and a Kicker 4 channel marine amp. The Kicker amp is running four 6.5” mids and two surface mount tweeters. The JP8 is running a single shallow mount Cadence 10” 2 ohm subwoofer. It plays loud and clean. The app is nice to be able to adjust the volume and settings while I’m working without going over to the radio.
    These Dual radios have been very reliable for me and have been EXTREMELY good for the price point. Heck, it would be good at twice the price!
    Thanks for testing this Big D!! I’ve been wondering if it is as good as the old Dual radio that you tested a while back!
    Edit: in my shed, I keep the volume set on the radio to 30. This allows plenty of volume at max setting on my phone when using Bluetooth. In my cargo trailer where I’m not using an amp, I typically will have the volume maxed out at 20-25, primarily because I’m a lot closer to the speakers.
    Edit x2: in both my cargo trailer and my shed, I have solar panels set up with lithium batteries. Those are what I am using for power for these two systems. The battery in my shed is a 300 amp/hr so I can really crank the volume and not have to worry about voltage drop.

    15 years ago my dad built up a classic car (lead sled) and the dash had no room for a radio as there was mechanisms behind the dash where a radio would normally go (the sudo AC was a big handle that opened a flap on the outside between the wipers) so I found him a Dual (different model than yours but pretty similar and was like $25) well, hooked it up to a good amp and man I was really surprised at the quality. I put all of his music (50's 60's) on a single SD card that plugged into the head unit and it was great, unit also had a remote.

Has Bluetooth so can use my cellphone as well as charge it with the Usb port.Hard to find a decent Am/fm stereo clock radio.Also can biamp the speakers by using front for the planars with a inline capacitor to act as high pass filter and rear for woofers.Can balance output by using fader.

    I drive a 97 Chevy k1500 and purposely sought out the factory radio for it for restoring purposes. It has a KILLER cassette deck with Dolby and auto-seek and when you put factory cassettes in it, they sound nearly identical to CDs. It also has a CD player and my CDs sound a hundred times better than the aftermarket Bluetooth devices (fm transmitter, Bluetooth cassette, etc..) all of them! I just put new speakers in and, to me, it’s worth it to keep buying CDs, they just sound so clean!

    AM is actually required to be included in factory vehicles via US law. The reason being is emergency services. There’s an AM station for state highway conditions. An AM station runs on 5,000 watts to run its 10KHz bandwidth at full power. FM requires 100,000 watts to run its 200khz bandwidth at the same power. So AM can easily be run on generator power during a blackout blizzard. It’s only being recently challenged by Tesla, because high output electric motors cause a ton of interference. All that being said, I think the radio just includes AM because it’s another feature they can advertise.
