They didn't sellout? Mmmmm... they did say when asked if they used new designs (Like they did in the 80's and 90's which made them so cool) or "other" designs. They replied: their amps are co-developed with the factory (read: what do you have already in production that we can put our name on with a few changes of course?) from "Validated platforms" (read: already produced, not new, yes amps that someone else designed). That's selling out my friend. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE MTX, I have collected several of their amps over the years and I think pretty much everything they do is cool. But they have sold out, they have succumbed to modern capitalistic (Chinese/Korean/Malaysian) mass production schemes. That said, so far as I can tell MTX "selling out" has done absolutely no harm to the consumer. MTX products are still just as cool and reliable as ever and MTX still loves mobile audio as much as they ever have.

@bearxbunny what are you even talking about? Your comment makes ZERO sense! You say it's about time as if you are more than satisfied with the power this MTX amp is putting out (even though you wouldn't pay $700 plus for a 2.5k rated rms amp to begin with). And you mentioned "Kicker finally got the message to make amps with real power." And this is what makes your comment so wonderful, when you went on to say "now how bout RF?!?!" What do you mean how bout RF? They've steadily been making amps in this power range that you seem to be so pleased with so long as it has the brand names MTX or Kicker. The RF 2500bd Constant Power amps are great amps & produce very respectable power! If you do not think they do then it is simply because you have never had the luxury of owning one. Btw all 3 amps are great amps, the MTX 2500 in this video, the Kicker KX & new WX Warhorse & the RF amps. The RF t2500bd Constant Power amps have been coveted amps for years now. Look at what the older models are still fetching used!
When I was in high school(92-96), my first set of subs were a bandpass MTX Roadthunder II box (10s I believe). Unfortunately, I did not have a great amp and sold them before I had a better amp. They still sounded pretty good though. Also at the same time period, a buddy of mine worked at our local electronics and appliance store. The MTX rep was there with their demo van. The rep took the store owner out to lunch and left the keys to the van. We spent a couple of hours playing with it. I really don't remember anything but a wall of subs behind you and a wall of amps if you opened the rear doors! It was by far the most bass I had experienced. MTX has always had a special place in my heart because of these things.

It's good to see MTX is back in the game. One of the best sounding loudest systems I have ever put together on a budget was a full MTX thunder series system. Being a Phoenix Arizona native I just had to go with MTX for a change I've been through all the rest Orion, Rockford fosgate, and PPI. For the $ MTX was amazing.

I own alot of old school stuff in my collection, especially Rockford, but by far I own more old MTX stuff than anything. Probably over 50 subs and 25-30 amps. Not the baddest stuff out there, but as far as Old School Cool.....11/10. 😎 As far as most powerful amp I would probably guess 1 of the Jackhammers, but I'd be lying if I said I knew for sure.
I love their amps. They have always underrated their wattage ratings across the board. I replaced a JBL 10" subwoofer with a blue thunder in my home audio box, and got to pick the best of eight from one of the stores I had privileges at and it performs like a champ at modest wattage. Thanks for doing a review on their amp and i hope you find the time to do more. 😃👍
Glad to see MTX still putting out some amazing products. Been a fan of the brand since they were American Acoustics Labs - have a pair of the floor speakers from 1979 still going strong.

This is great too see. I had started looking at old school Thunder series amps as I was unsure of their build quality. But man they came out swinging to the fences on this one. Nichicon caps. Didnt they change the model number the nxt yr in the Thunder Elite to like 7801 or something like that? I cant remember, i had one for a few months on an Orion HCCA 15" then sold it. Wished i woulda kept it now.
I love it been a fan since blue thunder days anything kicker im a fan of the quality dropped off from back in the day but this one is promising thumbs up 👆
I think Steve 😅😅 should have went with MTX ,All MTX needs is some Christmas lights strapped to it and they got a winner,,, but in all seriousness good job D,, Good job MTX
Once again BigD delivers another Knock Out vid! Thanks D & I'm glad to see MTX release this amplifier, looks very stout, it honestly has more headroom then I expected it to have. MTX done a good job on this & I think the price point isnt too bad. I would pay the $700 to give it a try in one of my vehicles.
Good looking amp inside and out. But glad you tested the amp since the power output numbers were quite "understated". Don't want to blow up your subwoofers. My buddy is still using his Made in America 2001 MTX Thunder mono block amplifier powering a single sub. And yeah, it still performs flawlessly.
The MTX RFL4001D mono block amplifier is a monster of power. It is at the cutting edge of technology and performance. This is the standard of the brand's amps. With more than 4000W RMS in class-D (very high that is what I found about the most powerful amp mtx made . This amp put out 8k
@Jack-tf2gw subs back then didnt require 5k like some subs today the most powerful sub was the MTX Jackhammer at 6k rms but was also 24". The most common was around 1000-1500rms. So that was a ton of power subs were also more efficient.
@frederickcrossley8303 yea they used a pair of them in a bread truck that a half pipe folded down out the back of. The first one sold and used in the midwest was here in Indiana, bye a local shop the put it in a Mercury Cougar hatchback for about a month before the guy blew the engine then it sat in the showroom for ever.
My very first amp back in the day was a MTX Thunder 4160. Had it driving 2 Crunch 12s at first before I bought a Precision Power A2350 (believe that was the model) and 2 more Crunch 12s. Had 4 Crunch 12s being ran of that 1 Precision Power amp and ended up using the 4160 to power my dash and rear deck 3 way 5.5s (they may have been 5.25", can't remember). Lol. Wasn't the best system in the day, but it sounded good AF at the time and you could actually hear my car coming from damn near a mile away. Idk why, but it seemed like whatever system I put in my Mazda 626 5 door (basically a hatchback) carried sound like crazy. Btw, if I'm not mistaking, the MTX RFL4001D was the most powerful amp MTX has ever made, but I'm willing to bet I'm wrong on that.
The test results here just go to show why I have been a " fan " of MTX products since '95 or so! Just as their amps well exceed " rated power " so do their sub's! And they sound great doing it!
MTX speakers have always truly "wow"'d me! Their new 3way's with the rotatable pod is super enticing!! As for amps, the old 81000D was a monster and super popular! To get over 1kw mononlock was hard at the time, the Alpine MRD-M1000 was king, but even though the MTX 81000D wasnt as "clean", it had BALLS, people even removed the protection circuit to run it at 1 ohm!
the mtx RFL4001D I'm pretty sure was mtx's largest amp & i think it was said to make 8,000 RMS watts.. back in the day i had a few terminator subs but then got a pair of road yhunder 12's but my favorite subs from mtx was the 4 blue thunder subs i put in the bed of my 88 chevy stepside i did a blow thru box that ended up putting a transmission on the beside end of thebbox that i experimented with just to get the bass to travel as far as possible with cuz i had a fiberglass tanneu cover on it & was very strange when i spent countless hours changing the port lengths till i found the best combo and i still dont know why i did that but it actually worked just like the push pull with dual 10" terminator subs i made a box for my buddies ford ranger splash that actually hit pretty hard and low
I’m an MTX fan, I still have a working mtx 4300x on my mids and highs and a set of working subs from 2001. Both have never had to be repaired. That said, none of the dyno numbers match up, certified, uncertified, or clipping all the way down, I believe your numbers over theirs all day long. It feels like they just took the 1ohm test and made up the other numbers in the interest of time. In today’s day and age, their dyno sheet should be listing the testing method they are using (what hrz) and even what equipment was used to test it, especially at the price point they are asking. Also your questions were on point but I think your energetic responses should be toned down and be more subjective and you should be on your team more than on the team of the company that sent you an amp to review. I think your fan base would respect it more. Still a fan but offering sound (pun intended) advice and to you and MTX. Also, I believe MTX’s largest amp was a 4000 watt amp. An RFL series if my memory serves me correctly.
Glad MTX is coming back hard. This is some great looking gear. Now just need a new 9500! Only thing I hate is the fact I live in Canada. So no access to the pre order.
Yeeaah... Beautiful design... amazing power... MTX is one of my fav brands...since 1994... Is the MTX RFL 4001 D the biggest mono amp they ever made????🤔🤔🤔
circuit city sold the blue thunder amps. i see alot of MTX love in the comments. i was a huge MTX fan in 1996 i ran a few, thunder 280 two 2160's and a 2300. i was a installer at the authorized dealer we were also the rockford dealer before bestbuy. every amp blew up except for one 2160. then i went with the next thunder amps the 500D was awesome till it smoked. after dealing with the mtx rep and tech support i switched to rockford. i still have those RF amps and they all still work never had a issue again. rockford subs always sounded better than MTX. i was scared to get the new P3's with aluminum cones but credit to RF they sound just as good as ever. ROCKFORD never disappoints. technology has come along way let's hope these are more reliable and don't live up to the reputation that i remember. with all the cheap big power china amp's there is more competition than ever.
Only thing that would surprise me is if the amp didn't meat rated, 4600? Awe baby that's really good at dynamic, i thought 3300-3500 but 4600? You getting way more than advertised
I never ran MTX amps but did their subs and they were great. I hope that tradition continues. Though I am not sure they are "engineering" their products based on the response they gave. Sounds like they are specing internal components for a third party product and slapping their name on it. That's prob a good way to get the costs where they need to be but I would still be concerned. I think we can all see the results of this by the efficiency results at 1 ohm.... I will also say I never run my amps at 1 ohm, don't know many that do, so it might be a bar that's too high anyway.
Old Circuit City Roadshop (90s) guy here.... Glad to see that MTX is still alive. I always preferred their amps over RF myself.

A tad high on the pricing maybe, but I doubt anyone will charge MSRP, 'cause they usually don't. I'm glad MTX is finally updating thier product line.
MTX was the only amp company back in the day that sent dyno sheets w/ their thunder series amps.
I had fosgates that came with "birth sheets" that showed the actual power.
MTX is a great company. Their president is active on Reddit and they have always made quality gear at a good price point.
Amazing amp , now let's kick it old school Dyno the 81000D please.
@@LIHTEBULB there is one of these for sale on Mercari. Like 900 buck they want for it. Don’t get me wrong, I’d buy it just for the glory of saying I bought it….lol
Didnt they change the model number the nxt yr in the Thunder Elite to like 7801 or something like that? I cant remember, i had one for a few months on an Orion HCCA 15" then sold it. Wished i woulda kept it now.
@@Tony2Pockets actually I changed it to TE1501D
Very nice, the price point is kind of high, however it is definitely a beautiful amp and it’s got some decent power.
Yeah it is a little high for that especially with that cheap ass base knob they give, that would be a dealbreaker for me.
I love it been a fan since blue thunder days anything kicker im a fan of the quality dropped off from back in the day but this one is promising thumbs up 👆
12 inch MTX terminators they lasted me 10 years now still sound great
MTX is keeping up the with the competition and keeping it budget friendly! Not bad MTX!! 😎👍
I think Steve 😅😅 should have went with MTX ,All MTX needs is some Christmas lights strapped to it and they got a winner,,, but in all seriousness good job D,, Good job MTX
Good work MTX! I had a thunder 6500D(500 watts) in 02' tested 613watts@12.5 volts.
Good to see MTX making a comeback
They never really left, to be honest. They were just eclipsed by the audiophile market. You know how that goes...
Beautiful amp. I will always remember the thunder series with the prizim lights
Nice video, MTX amps has always been good to me 💪
Good looking amp inside and out.
That's it
@Jack-tf2gw subs back then didnt require 5k like some subs today the most powerful sub was the MTX Jackhammer at 6k rms but was also 24". The most common was around 1000-1500rms. So that was a ton of power subs were also more efficient.
Pimp my ride used one of the jack hammers.
Those amps are beasty. Huge damping factor and very underrated. (They did WELL over 4K at 12.8V)
That amp is slick. Kudos to MTX..🎉
I had 2 MTX 2300X Thunder amps 1 4300X amp and 4 Thunder 8000 subs and it hit hard all was the gold letter black amps.
I also have about 12 mtx 81000ds and 6 mtx 1501d's. Repaired all of them myself
That baby is kicking 💪💪💪
MTX made some insane subwoofers back in the day as well! Big D should remember the "Jackhammer"
the mtx RFL4001D I'm pretty sure was mtx's largest amp & i think it was said to make 8,000 RMS watts.. back in the day i had a few terminator subs but then got a pair of road yhunder 12's but my favorite subs from mtx was the 4 blue thunder subs i put in the bed of my 88 chevy stepside i did a blow thru box that ended up putting a transmission on the beside end of thebbox that i experimented with just to get the bass to travel as far as possible with cuz i had a fiberglass tanneu cover on it & was very strange when i spent countless hours changing the port lengths till i found the best combo and i still dont know why i did that but it actually worked just like the push pull with dual 10" terminator subs i made a box for my buddies ford ranger splash that actually hit pretty hard and low
8k was strapped.
@@mikemccabe7124 kicker warhorse
I really like MTX. I would like to see some new 9500 subs paired with one of these amps.
I had the terminator(?) competition version in red and bought it open box which saved me a chunk of change
I miss seeing amps that have that much "Dynamic Headroom" these days.
BRAVO MTX
GREAT VIDEO BIG D
My third favorite brand behind Phoenix Gold with Rockford fosgate being my number one. That 2300 you tested is proof on how well built mtx is
I’m an MTX fan, I still have a working mtx 4300x on my mids and highs and a set of working subs from 2001.
People forget that in the 90's , rockford fosgate engineers left and went to mtx. Mtx produced some solid amps from the late 90's on.
Looks like a solid design, should last a while under heat!
A dual mono design (5kW stereo) version of this would be nice too.
Good list of budget friendly 2000watt rms amps
Price is still a little steep, but I would take this over the smd 3k of the same price ANYDAY
Glad MTX is coming back hard. This is some great looking gear. Now just need a new 9500!
Only thing I hate is the fact I live in Canada. So no access to the pre order.
I will definitely consult with this channel when installing my own car stereo. Thanks.
Yeeaah... Beautiful design... amazing power...
MTX is one of my fav brands...since 1994...
Is the MTX RFL 4001 D the biggest mono amp they ever made????🤔🤔🤔
The MTX RFL4001D is probably the most powerful amp MTX has ever made...IMO...
I believe the Thunder Elite were their big amps. Plus they were strapable
Ding Ding Ding you are correct!😊
Dont forget the 24" (61cm) mtx jackhammer subwoofer. A test wouod be great haha
circuit city sold the blue thunder amps. i see alot of MTX love in the comments. i was a huge MTX fan in 1996 i ran a few, thunder 280 two 2160's and a 2300. i was a installer at the authorized dealer we were also the rockford dealer before bestbuy. every amp blew up except for one 2160. then i went with the next thunder amps the 500D was awesome till it smoked. after dealing with the mtx rep and tech support i switched to rockford. i still have those RF amps and they all still work never had a issue again. rockford subs always sounded better than MTX. i was scared to get the new P3's with aluminum cones but credit to RF they sound just as good as ever. ROCKFORD never disappoints. technology has come along way let's hope these are more reliable and don't live up to the reputation that i remember. with all the cheap big power china amp's there is more competition than ever.
Definitely reasonably priced. Good to see they’re still going.
Wow, what a powerhouse of an amp
The 40001 was the largest MTX amplifier ever produced.
Only thing that would surprise me is if the amp didn't meat rated, 4600? Awe baby that's really good at dynamic, i thought 3300-3500 but 4600? You getting way more than advertised
MTX= Moe Then Xpected :)
Yes! I love the W7 as a demo sub. Looks sexy af :) and fits the power handling for the amp
I remember MYX 9500 and 4000. They were amazing subs back in the day. 4000 did well in a band passbox
I run 2 9512’s in a large low tuned box on a TA92001. Im mindblown by the performance even by todays standard!
Man, i miss the MTX Bass CD they had back in the day!
