    Would definitely be interested in more footage on how you handle prey drive. Really helpful videos.

    Louie's body language is so much more relaxed, he enjoys his walk so much more now.

    Very helpful. I can’t use kong hands with my dachshund. Way too low to the ground and bad for my back.

    I enjoyed this video, very informative. What do you use for treats and haw many do you ues per walk? The reason I acknowledge Ask is my dog has a delicate system and it's hard to find treats that will distract him from distractions

      Glad you liked it! As mentioned in this leash tips video th-cam.com/video/V7kE4RZ18XM/w-d-xo.html I suggest bringing two different treat values on walks. I bring some kind of regular treat (such as beef liver or another meat-first dog treat) and then I also bring some kind of fresh meat typically (such as cooked ground beef which was Louie's favourite, roasted pork chop, etc). I save the fresh meat for the more difficult requests and reactivity training!

    Just wondering - Why did you decide not to use a harness ?…

    • @happyhoundsdogtraining
      @happyhoundsdogtraining  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fair question! I touched on this earlier in the Louie series, but not on this video. My preference when training reactive dogs or dogs that pull on leash is to use a harness to protect the neck. However, I also respect client preference. Louie is a large, powerful dog and his guardian was originally concerned about being able to manage him if his gear changed, so we changed it in stages to keep her comfortable. First week I increased to a 6ft leash (she had been using a 3ft), second week she started using the longer leash too, then third week we switched him to harness & 8 ft leash which you’ll see in upcoming videos 😊

    Great video. I am curious, is it possible to train a reactive dog without the use of treats? What would happen with Louie if you were out of treats, for whatever reason?

    • @happyhoundsdogtraining
      @happyhoundsdogtraining  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, and great question! Is it possible? Yes... Would I personally suggest it? No. For other skills (example recall) there are alternative reinforcers such as toys/play that can work really well. However, particularly for the dogs that find play REALLY reinforcing, it tends to amp them up which I wouldn't want during reactivity training. Treats are nice because they offer a quick positive experience, but then ~second later the dog is ready for another reactivity practice repetition so you can make pretty quick changes. Alternative reinforcers such as praise/pets typically aren't quite high enough in value to make as quick of progress. If I run out of treats (which definitely happens!) then for the remainder of the walk home I use a larger distance from the trigger (for Louie that means birds & other animals, people, and dogs) so he's never close to the threshold line. In those cases I'd use praise and pets (if your dog likes those) to reinforce calmness, but I definitely wouldn't push the training difficulty. Hope that makes sense!

    It is practically impossible to find the exact moment when the bird accident happened in your video without having to watch it all. Can you please insert more meaningful timestamps?

    • @happyhoundsdogtraining
      @happyhoundsdogtraining  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I timestamp depending on my goals/purpose for each video. In my stepwise tutorials you'll see each individual step timestamped as it's an exact process to follow. I've had numerous requests for full, unedited sessions like this however where the "purpose" is to show an entire session with a dog versus cut-apart, specifically targeted clips. However, if there's a certain part a viewer thinks other viewers should be aware of/focus on, I'm always happy for people to leave their own timestamps in the comments!
