Real videos like this is what we reactive dog owners need

I have a reactive dog. 3 years old. When the guest comes home, he barks a lot, or when someone in the room is leaving, he jumps on them, sticks to their clothes and tries to stop them. I did a lot of reading and watched videos. Like what was told was mostly punishment-oriented, correction with the leash made a little sense, but it didn't work for us either, he became more stressful. I think what you mentioned is very true and it made me feel good, I hope we can succeed🙏🏻

Would this help for my dog who is particularly scared of other dogs. He will try and hide behind my legs and cower away and if a dog gets too close he will growl and lunge. Hes still a puppy but want to get him used to dogs and not be frigtened ❤

I do have another question! What if a) your dog unfortunately has had plenty of experiences of finding things outside (she will still let me expect, but there's nothing i could trade with for a bone so I'm losing brownie points with those) and b) its really hard to see those food items because they're usually in tall grass etc, so its hard to even give the cue. She loves to sniff and so far I'm unable to distinguish between "i found food" sniffing and other sniffing.

She loves any leftover foods, really loves bones (which unfortunately people seem to be leaving around everywhere 😤), and the grossest thing was def human feces 😩

I wonder what you think of BAT for reactivity? Have you tried it, do yiu use it, and why do you prefer this approach? (Or is BAT only for fearful reactive dogs?)

My Bella is like Kiki but times that by a 100 😆She jumps on tables, will walk along counters, when she was a pup she managed to get the peanut butter jar out the cupboard. Her prey drive and food drive are immense. We are currently on the leave it Part 2. She's a GSD cross Staffy.

I have been using this method for my clients' dogs for years. To boil it down I simply tell the clients to teach a behaviour that is incompatible with jumping up. That is either a sit, or a down. This can work well, but the client has to have good mechanics which of course includes good timing. It sometimes takes the clients a while to get their timing good enough for the dog to understand that he is being rewarded for four on the floor.

Another awesome real life session! Great highlights and points. THANK YOU! My sweet boy has been so good with being calm and non-reactive until the last few weeks as his testosterone levels are “growing”. He is a large breed (Rottweiler) and we know that in order for him to be at his healthiest bone/joint health we need to keep him whole as long as possible (we’re shooting for 3 years for his growth to be complete). He LOVES meeting other dogs. Used to be that other males have a problem with him. He would be sad when they reacted to him. Then at around 18 months he would respond when they reacted. Now at 23.5 months, we saw him initiate a reaction toward a male dog. We felt so much shame! He’s so sweet and we didn’t expect this from the character he’s shown. Another trigger is anything that drags/rolls with a deep sound similar to a growling dog…garbage cans, rolling cases…and also, the ice cream mans annoying music or the squeaky horn. HA! We’ve been trying a few tactics on that and he’s improving. Monitoring his reactions within distance of another dog and implementing these well timed tactics are next on our list. 🎉

Hands down the BEST training video I’ve seen on walking the dog…I’ve watched A LOT. ESPECIALLY the distinction between heel and loose leash and how you use them and transition. Oh, and the importance of progressing difficulty of environment. It’s not that this information is not commonly available, it’s that you show it in a real example and it is so very clear. The progression… SOOOOO Good! My 2 year old Rottweiler learns so quick, but we’ve had trouble helping him to get the heel & heel release understanding. Never mind loose leash vs sniffing E’rythang! I’m confident that this will be my savior. I’ll be back to let you know. You’ve got a new subscriber!

I just wanted to stop to say I really admire you for all you skills. I actually researched this subject to find the best way for me to deal with someone else's dog. I come to the house biweekly to clean. She's a black lab, 2 years old. She and I love each other. But she will always jump on me. mybest progress has been just to put my open hand in front of her and say nothing. but he's still just over pours me. ???

I have toppls for my dogs because the Kong was too frustrating for them and they would give up. They love the toppl but when I freeze it to make it last longer, they seem to give up quickly. Any thoughts?

I’m wondering about the amount of treats given. Would you do this amount in place of a meal? My dog is getting pretty chubby with all the treats I use in training.

Hi! Thank you so much for this guide; it's been a true help with our recently adopted rescue. So far the process is going well, but one snag I'm running into is that my dog is enthusiastic about putting his head *into* the harness-but seems pretty uncomfortable when he has to take his head out (maybe the pressure on his ears as it comes off is uncomfortable?) Any ideas or resources on how to get him comfortable with the feeling of taking the harness off over his head? It also could be the harness I'm using is too tight for his head-are all over-the-head harnesses a little bit difficult to take off, or do the brands you like to use slip off easily/without pressure on the dog's head and ears? What I don't understand is that how the dog will leave the cat alone while you are not at home after these steps successfully completed? Wouldn't they chase the cat at home if you (praiser) not there? I have a puppy who is unknown mixed breed from shelter and has prey-drive on my cat. I did not teach her leave-it yet, however, there are big questions in my mind and one big one is above mentioned. Thank you for the video, very detailed! :)

Hello, how do you practice this if your dog never jumps on you at home, only when guests arrive? I recently became certified as a dog trainer but struggle with this at home as I don’t have ways to practice this when living in the country except for when actual guests arrive. Thanks Paula

So simple! Yes, this is an aggravating walking problem with my small dog. I’m 78 and have a balance problem and don’t like bending over. Never thought to teach this. My dog loves to shape so I can’t wait to “play this game” with him. I’ll let you know how it goes. Thank you for a new perspective on an old problem❣️

This will be so helpful. A few questions though. It's a lot of treats, do the owners cut back on the dogs next meal? Also, my dog is a sniffer. He usually spends more time sniffing then walking and I have to encourage him to keep walking constantly. If I let him we could spend 20 minutes sniffing one spot. Any suggestions on how to encourage him to walk more than he does? He's not that treat motivated. Thanks

My new challenge /goal is to get Bella to ignore all animals when we’re not intentionally going to play with a dog friend (example: while I’m driving, and she’s focused on every dog she sees). How do I get her to leave it (stop staring)? Staring is still below her threshold. Do you have a training program for getting to the point where the dog never hits threshold for silly reasons, like opening the garage door?
