Your videos are far too interesting to ever be boring !! I could watch you experimenting all day 🎉😂 I have the same thoughts, as I am sure we all do, as you are telling us ….’will this work’..….’I wonder what will happen if’….oooops…I wonder what happened there….as you say….experimenting and trying out ideas is something that we just have to try. I need to remember to write things down that worked or more importantly…didn’t work !
Agreed !! 🤗🤗 I love Susan’s videos, and also as a newbie like you, and trying things out, I think she is one of the very best here on YT and the way she explains and describes everything to us is the best 🤗
Oh my goodness ❤ The pull from the larger plate when you were cleaning them was decedent! I would never be able to collage on it but that is a huge issue I have-I find (almost) everything precious 😢😂🎉
Thank you so much Susan, I really really enjoyed watching you play with those iridescent colours. I got to say that even the one you said was a fail, I really love ❤️ ❤❤❤ it, and all those prints are so beautiful and gorgeous too. I love ❤❤❤❤ the iridescent colours and the bronze is really really striking and stunning too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Hello Many of us, when we first started out, used Google to do research …. Or maybe we went to a local art supply store for explanation Or advice? Just a thought?
The ghost is the paint that is left on the plate after you've pulled a print. I usually let that dry, then put wet paint over it and then pull the ghost. I plan to do a video on interference paint. But until I do here is a link for Golden's explanation: www.goldenpaints.com/products/colors/interference-iridescent-colors
Loved this ! So happy you showed what you did and didn't like! Guess it is all in the eye of the beholder or in this case the prints! Thanks, I am just starting with the gelli plate process.
Hello Susan, first time watcher and within a week(?) I hope to receive the gel press set and 4” brayer that I ordered a couple of days ago. I am heretofore a card maker but the artist laying dormant is raising its head, thanks to you. Not that the cards that I create couldn’t be considered art from time to time. So, we’ll see; I’ll keep watching. Thank you for being here, Elena
I think you will fall in love with gel printing. It can become an obsession. Just warning you. 😊 You can print right onto your card stock. I did a video on printing postcards.
@@SusanCliftonArtist I'm looking forward to it. I struggle with ink blending backgrounds so I'm hoping that a gel plate will help change that. And speaking of gel plates, you mentioned that you wanted to get a larger circle. SSS has a 6" circular gel plate for I believe, under $20.00. In the meantime, I don't know where you are but here in Puyallup, Washington, it's early afternoon. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your day...
I have a love/hate relationship with the gelli plate. I love the unexpected and hate it. LOL. When I say I don't like the way something came out it's usually because I had expectations.
Really enjoyed this and will be experimenting with iridescent paint and interference paint. Just a tip I learned today from Elizabeth St Hilaire - you can totally clean your gel plate so easily with tape. Just put packing tape across the surface and pull it off and it’s totally clean!
I do that on occasion. It didn't get my plate clean with the iridescent paint though. I haven't quite figured out why it works sometimes and not others. I use hand sanitizer when I want a really clean plate.
@@SusanCliftonArtist They are a soft body paint, halfway between heavy body and fluid. I use them on the gel plate a lot, with success. The prices are amazing.. 4 oz of the gold pearlescent is $5.99 vs $23 for a similar Golden fluid. 16 oz of Pyrrole Red is only $22.49 vs $81 for the same amount at Golden. 32 oz. of gloss medium/varnish is $23.49 vs $32.59 for Golden. I can't tell any difference in pigment load. Shipping costs add up but it's still cost effective.
Hi. I’m not seeing anything on Golden site about Quin Nickel Azo Gold being discontinued. And my local art supply has it. Hopefully they keep making it !
I love metallics and love these prints. I am enamored with your #8 swirl mask and the swirly, Van Gogh-y stencil. I looked in your shop, but didn’t spy either. Can you share a link?
I enjoy how you try different techniques and learning different art words associated with gelli printing, what paper do you use for these techniques? Do you have a recommendation video of papers to use just beginning my journey with this type of printing..found video interesting and informative..💛🇨🇦🇺🇲✍👩🎨🎨
Yes, I'd like to buy a small plate. I only have an 8x10". In searching for small, gel plates I found 4x4 and 6x6" but their prices are ridiculously high. Wondering, can the plate that I have be cut into smaller sizes? Has anyone ever done that? Would I even want to? I also searched your channel for any DIY gel plate vids but didn't see any. Have you ever made your own gel plates?
I have no idea if you could cut it up. I watched some other videos on making your own plate but my schedule is so tight I have no time to try something like that. Give it a try.
@@SusanCliftonArtist I did see on YT where 2 crafters successfully cut up their plates but I've decided not to do it. I'd better hold on to my large plate because I got it for under $20 (Gel Press) about 3 yrs ago. Today, all of the smaller ones are OVER $20. I'll try to get a small one on discount/coupon one day. I can also work with using 1 corner of it sometimes. Been also wanting to try my hand at making some, though my schedule is also clogged with much crafting and arting. Recipes are very simple and quick, though the plates made this way are said to be more delicate and easier to damage. Someone said the recipes including alcohol make more durable plates.
It depends on if you are doing multiple layers first and then picking up all the layers at the end or if you are just doing one layer at a time. So the multiple layers with a single pick up at the end you have to dry each layer in between or they will smear. The final layer needs to be wet. On the one layer at a time, each needs to be wet. I hope that help.
I’ll try to explain. When you are creating all your layers on the plate with just one pull you need to let the paint dry before you add a layer or the colors will blend together. The last layer needs to be wet so you can pull all the layers at once. If you are layering one at a time, pulling each layer then each layer should be wet. I hope that helps.
You made a comment about not using the deli paper again, but I saw one of you most recent videos where you enjoyed using the deli paper. So is it yes or no to deli paper?
I like the one I get on Amazon. It's not too expensive and pulls well. 120 Sheets Deli Paper Sheets Transparent Paper Translucent Clear Paper Tracing Paper for Drawing, White (9 x 13 Inch) amzn.to/498i17b
Thanks for this, Susan! I'm wondering if you'd recommend a particular brand of rice paper. I've been using JapanBargain which is the least expensive I've seen, but it does tear now and then and I've wondered if another rice paper might be less prone to that.
Sorry about that. I forgot to add to the description. Here it is: ❤️ Artistic Motif Spiral and Finger Wooden Stamps for Printing (Set of 6) amzn.to/3Nuqpny
I don’t like the bronze as the final layer. It is too opaque. I kept hoping you would cut it with the Pearl. That way you could see through it. It was interesting, but I like to see the layers and not cover them up.
Never bothered by how long the video is. As a newbie I am fascinated by your techniques and anxious to learn. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome, thank you! I'm always afraid people will get bored. LOL

Every session ends up a little experimental. I like that about gel printing.
I love that you show your”fails,”. It’s very encouraging to see how you can possibly recover from those😊
Thank you so much! You can't get discouraged with the plate. Sometimes you fail. But we learn from those fails.
U r. Doing so good
Loving this process, I love hearing your voice.
Hi Mary! Thanks.
Yep, nice voice. 😊 Not high and squeaky, run-on or pressured. Just the right timbre and calm. So easy to listen to.

Nova Paints have a line of gorgeous metallic mediums for adding to other paints.
One of these days I will try Nova Paints. I don't see any other artists using them on the gel plate. What is the consistency? Soft or hard body?

This is so fascinating to watch. I want to make stencils with my Cricut Joy, too. Do you have a video on how to do it?
I have a few. videos on the subject. I'll try to find a link to share with you.

These are great. Love watching the process…
Thanks, I like just playing sometimes. The results can be frustrating or unexpected. But always fun.
Susan, I would like to purchase one of the stencils you make. Is that possible?
I'm working on that. Probably not until early 2024. Thanks for your interest. It's helpful information as I grow.
