I’ve ordered stencils, extremely cheaply, from Temu… I know the app is controversial, but for those of us on a very limited budget, it really helped me be able to get lots (probably 100?) of stencils for what 2-3 from a store or even Amazon would’ve cost
I declare at this time, you need never express your comfort level regarding color choices. I absolutely LOVED every single one of your pulls. There were a few times I thought your next choice of color was w-r-o-n-g and I WAS PROVED WRONG EVERY TIME!!!!!!! I believe you have an inate talent for color choice and I bow before you!
Hi Jamie. Thank you so much for your encouraging comment! I had to go back and watch this video myself to remember what I had done. I do love experimenting especially when the results are happy accidents. 🥰
I agree completely with Jamie and her comments on your colors. Great video! Thank you so much for sharing your talent, techniques and absolutely beautiful colors and results.
OH! MY! GOODNESS!!! Sherri, every single print you make is magical!!! I have watched a LOT of other channels on printmaking and by FAR yours is the BEST!!! Thank you :)
I just got a gelli plate for Christmas and was looking for ideas and came across your video. What a great idea making your own stencils/templates using a glue gun. I learned quite a bit from watching this video …..thank you!
This video is going in my save file. Thank you for taking us through your explorations with glue gun and gel plate, what a wonderful share. I will be able to refer back to your video as I am definitely going to have a go. I loved all those shimmering colours I think you actually have quite an eye for colour. Thank you for sharing this, love it, love it, love it!
Thank you! Yes I agree and know how you feel. It does feel more authentic and expressive to use your own work. I feel the same way about creating my own papers and digital collage. 🥰

For just experimenting I personally thought you were phenomenal. That was awesome and you seem to have a sixth sense. Very nice. Very well done. Thank you for sharing.

My TH-cam feed sent me your video and I am sooo happy! ❤ Thank you for creating and sharing. I just bought 2 gel plates I purchased on ebay. I was supposed to get one like I ready had. The gal had sold it and sent me 2 ~ a thinner 8 x 12 one and one with hearts all over!! I have old acrylic paints and brayers - I can't wait to play!! Thank you again!!!
Sherri, absolutely flabbergasted by the work you pulled! I see backgrounds, I see inspiration. This is a save vid. I lost my way with gelli printing I hope this pulls me into that realm of experimentation again. Thank you ! 46: 46:50
@@darlenegreen1089 The color I think you're referring to was not added to the glue. It's just a result once you use them on your gel plate with paint. They were glue stick color until I used them. Thanks for watching! 🥰

Really great video! I’m still learning about how the colors work when layered so seeing what you used and then the results is especially helpful. Thank you!
Sherri: I love your creativity in using hot glue for organic shapes. I also incorporate glue on my painting and when I typed it in the search box I got your video! Thanks you!
Gorgeous papers...I like to add acrylic inks to my acrylic paints on the plate, creates some beautiful effects, however, I can't wait to incorporate metallics after watching you create.

Love gelli prints and have used them in many of my collages. The glue gun stencils have great appeal. Your tutorial was excellent and i learned lots. Thank you.
I love this idea and the prints you made. I feel inspired to get up out of bed and burn through a couple of glue sticks! I have some ideas for Easter themed stencils.
Just beautiful. Gonna try with some wet strength tissue paper as well as rice paper. Goal will be to cut each & use as card fronts. Thanks for your demo of so many beautiful color combos!
You are very good at gelli printing, Sherri! I've tried it a few times but without success. This looks very contemporary, which seems like a different direction for you. I like it.
Thank you Genaveve. Yes I like trying lots of different styles. I guess I've always been a bit eclectic. I hope you'll keep trying. It's lots of fun and very addictive and forgiving. Thanks for sharing.. a tip for 41:44 for example... if you want to pull that paint causing a white spot , don't pull the paper from the plate any further: put some acrylic medium onto that paint with a brush or your fingers, put back the paper and leave to settle it onto the paper just as with a normal print .. it will fill the white gap.

Just came across your channel, I really enjoyed your video. I am a gel plate printer too and I'm always experimenting with color - trial and error but so much fun. Thanks for sharing.
I love your color choices and wonder if those are the same colors you wear? My skin, hair, and eye color make me a "spring," and I wear all of those same colors. I think you could use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun. Maybe not as quick but much safer. You can flatten the glue masks by putting them between parchment paper and ironing them.
Thank you. On a daily basis around the house I wear neutrals. However, I have an entire section of my closet with more colorful tops with lots of embroidery in these types of colors. I have had others recommend a hair dryer as well. I've continued to used my heat gun because it's always plugged in at my work table. I've never had an issue with it....maybe mine just doesn't get very hot or maybe it's because I keep it at a distance and keep it moving but I've never had any issues with using it. I love the idea to flatten the masks and will definitely try that. Thank you for the tip. ❤️
I love what you did. I have made these hot glue stencils in the past. Just made my first gelliplate and hope to be able to use it end of the day but will start with oxide inks.
Thank you. I love that you made your own gel plate. I bought the ingredients but haven't tried making my own yet. I also have not tried using oxide inks on my gel plate so I'll have to remember that next time I play with it. 🥰
I'm so glad to see you making your own stencils, and getting texture from the grunge on your brayer. I get a little bit frustrated with videos of artists using placemats and things like that that they find at the dollar store, which is basically copying someone else's art which they have not given you permission to copy! When you purchase a stencil, you're at least using someone else's art that they have given you permission to use, but you're still using someone else's art. I love the idea of finding ways to make my own. That may be a hot take, but that's my opinion. And oh that pull, the one that came up at 33:28, that is so beautiful!! My favorite so far easily. And I love the pull at 42:30, but I'm curious why your paint bubbled at that point after all the other paint that you had put down? I'm not sure if bubble is the right word but it's like your gel plate was still oily. The result is beautiful - I actually love the little cells that it made - but I'm curious why it did that when I didn't see all the previous layers of paint doing that. For reference, I'm very new to my gelli plate so I'm still learning why it does the things that it does.
Thank you. I know what you mean. Without watching it back I’m going to guess that I used a cheaper paint that had more water content. I never really mind when things react in a weird way because it just gives it another layer of interest and texture. Thank you for watching and commenting 😊
Im not rven halfway through and your prints are fabulous, im just learning and your video is fantastic. I love you shared your hot glue stencils!!! I'm thrilled! ❤ I also love metallics. But that iridescent medium is an eye opener,! Thank you so much really enjoying this and how you explain. New sub! I love doing these too. So much fun. Yours are beautiful 🙌
#replay beautiful outcome! btw, a heat gun definitely wouldn't be recommended and will quickly ruin homemade gel plates even from a distance but a hairdryer on "cool" (most have a button or setting for this) is safe and will never damage your plate.
Thank you! And thank you for sharing your advice about homemade gel plates and heat guns. I use mine all the time (at a distance and constantly moving) with my commercial gel plates and have never had any issues...but maybe my heat gun isn't very hot. ☺️
Hi Judy. Thanks for watching and for your comment. I figured as much....I had bought my Speedball brayer years ago to get the bubbles out when collaging so that's all I had used it for. It's in pretty rough shape from not cleaning it so I have a set of other brayers for printing. 🥰
@@heartandsoulfuldesign The metal surface really isn’t easy to clean, so I don’t worry about it. Whatever residue there is normally dries. I use it for my mono printing and it never smears the back of the paper. Thanks for your video!
Thank you! I've added a link in the description now as well but here's a link to them on Amazon: amzn.to/3N3RGNY. In this video I used Liquitex Basic Acrylics in a variety of colors. This link is for a set of 48 colors so you can try them all if it's in your budget or would be something nice to add to your Christmas Wish List. Rich dazzling colors and patterns! Do you let each layer of paint dry before you add a different color, ie to avoid mud? So inspiring, I hope to follow your video step by step. Thank you!
Thank you for watching! Yes, I let each layer of paint dry in between. I'm currently working on a French journal series but hope to do some gel print videos in the coming weeks. 🥰

Thank you so much! I'm hoping to do more videos like this soon. 🥰

That print you pulled @37:00 is lit
Thank you. 🥰
Thank you so much! I love this new craft - excited to get started.
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching. You will have so much fun! 🥰
So fun to watch! Who was the beatiful music by?
Thank you Denise. Sorry I forgot to put the music attribution. It's from Bensounds but I can't remember which song exactly...🥰
Yes, the Speedball brayer is made just for this .... printing. I've been using one for a few years and love it.
Great ideas.... Where did you get the tool you use to rub the paper with that your printing on ? Thx 🙌
Thank you. There is a list of materials in the description. That tool is a baren and here is the link: Speedball Block Printing Baren: amzn.to/3j6SztF
Love your work and I am trying to get some of the items you are using. Could you please add link or name to all the paints too? Thank you 🙂
You can always purchase your favorite colors individually on Amazon or any store selling art supplies including Michael's and Walmart if you're in the US. ❤️
Beautiful I love this idea. Thank you 💖💖💖
Hi Rhonda. Thank you for watching! 😊
Thank you for an instructive video!!❤
You are so welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hope you'll check out my Stencil Making 101 and Stencil Making 2.0 playlists. They are best watched in order but have tons of information if you are new to making your own stencils. 🥰
This is really cool. Making me want to get my gelli plate out. 💕
Oh you should! It's so much fun. 🥰
How did you add color to glue gun. Love this idea.
Hi Arabella. The color I think you're referring to was not added to the glue gun. It's just a result once you use them on your gel plate. They were glue stick color until I used them. Thanks for watching! 🥰
I tried the foil, that didn’t work well for me, but now I am trying different things and having fun❤
That's awesome! Glad you're having fun experimenting with different things!
