It's easier to simply place the letters in the recycling without opening them, if a TV licencing individual knocks on your door and you open it, when they announce they are TV Licensing, simply close the door and say NOTHING.
this is exactly how it's done, the moment you contact them they just get worse and worse with their threats and what people need to remember is their threats of getting a warrant (scare tactics) actually require them to physically see you watching live tv
This is absolutely the best course of action to take. Better still, place a 'Private Property - Do No Enter' sign on your curtilage, that removes any implied right of access and will hopefully scare off Jehovahs and other cold-callers. Just let your Postman know he's OK! if the TV Licensing 'Sales' person arrives, just tell them they are trespassing, end of conversation.
No licence needed declaration used to be every two years but I noticed that they have changed it to annually. I will not be complying with any further requests to do this every year. There is no need to have a tv licence now with catch up television, you tube etc available.
I knew most of this, but a very important video with great information in general. There might well be a problem with one form asking if you do reuire a license, but this form is loaded in such a way that whatever the response, then you still need a license, so beware of completing any paperwork for treturn to TV licensing. Blkackbelt barrister demonstrated this in a video. Never respond to any letters, as you are not obliged to, and never answer any questions on the doorstep or sign anything. The best response to a caller is 'no thank you', and close the door.
30 years without one and still going strong, i just have absolutely no contact them. Plus why would youmsend them a letter, that's a communication with them. You,are litterally telling them who you are and where you live.
I will tell you my self 1 have cctv out side your door 2 don’t buzz them in if they do not have appointment with you 3 if they knock the door don’t open it 4 lose the fear & you will be fine
I'd just add that you do need a tv license if you use the BBC Iplayer however, you can use ITV X, Channel 4 etc apps to watch their content without a licence, just don't watch live tv while using those apps.
After declaring online that I don’t need a TV Licence, I emailed TV Licensing and told them in bold, and underlined script that I am Withdrawing any Implied Rights of Access (WOIRA) to my property. They acknowledged receipt and entered this on their records. I have never had a visit or letter from them in the past two years.
The no license required is a handy hint to stop the letters but it's beside the point. Do you tell Netflix, Apple, Amazon, Disney every two years that you don't want their services or they bombard you with harassing and inaccurate and threatening letters. Of course not can you imagine the uproar. So why should you have to tell BBC that you are not using their services. There is no legal obligation if you don't watch or record live TV or iplayer and the BBC licence fee is paying oversized pensions for nonce's and has beebs. BBC needs defunding, Capita and TV licensing need suing for emotional harm and harassment.
Exactly! I don't fish, so why would I need to tell anyone that I don't want to buy a fishing licence every year? I don't get anyone knocking on my door asking why I haven't bought a fishing licence.
A year ago I emailed bbc cancelling & withdrawing the implied right of access & they acknowledged & accepted my instruction & gave me a refund. I have not received any letters or visits but recently got an email questionnaire, which I ignored & deleated. I have got notices on my main 5 bar gate & in the porch. I have also now got a rather big German Shepherd who loves to stand with her paws on the windowsill & shout at visitors. We are fairly rural so I am guessing there are easier targets than us😂
Withdrawing their implied right of access outright in my opinion plays into their hands. As soon as you do that it _can give_ TV licensing additional supposed 'evidence' that illegal viewing activities _may_ be occurring at the property. I believe that while implied right of access remains in place it is very difficult for TV licensing to apply for a search warrant without substantial evidence of 'wrong doing'. Think about these words to understand how to _effectively_ use the withdrawal of the implied right of access.
The only time I ever got a visit was at my old house when I done a no licence needed declaration, since they I've just thrown letters in the bin and had no visits.
Has anybody ever taken legal action against them for harassment for constant letters. Or...FOI request on how much they spend on printing letters & postage?
I would suggest folk consider buying a Ring doorbell as it will provide valuable video footage or evidence if needed. As a general rule if someone comes knocking at your door you are entitled to ask “ who are you”? If they seem vague or reluctant to give a straight answer then be very careful as it may be they are not a normal caller. Should they ask are you person X or similar be polite and say nothing if they ask who are you? You can politely reply “I’m saying no thank-you” and close the door, they will not be able to do much but go away. A genuine person will identify themselves and say I’m from the gas or something similar. Do not let them into your property as you don’t know who they are, the less you say to them the better as it cannot be misinterpreted as something else. Remain calm and polite, it doesn’t cost anything and makes a difference. Do not sign anything as you don’t know what it is and it might be nothing but trouble.

Where does "my property" begin, the communal door or my internal front door? Eg, during the day the stairwell is accessible to couriers, but it self locks in the evening requiring visitors to be buzzed in. Does this affect anything? Thank you! 🙏🏻
Yes you can. Once withdrawing their IRoA they should not call at your property. If they do then they are breaking the law. It really is very simple. Do not give them any personal details, tell them that their IRoA is withdrawn and that they must NOT contact you in ANY way in future unless you ask them to. what he doesn’t tell you is that you don’t pay, they prosecute you in magistrates court who levy a fine and if you don’t pay that then the you can ultimately goto prison for non payment of a court fine. TV Licensing prosecute 100’s of people a week for no tv license

It doesn’t matter what live tv stations you have on the television. You will be charged with watching live television without having a tv licence. To avoid any problems have your tv aerial removed.
@@RonnieWeir-u5g Why? Having an aerial or dish plugged in isn't illegal and doesn't require a licence.... you might just use the radio channels which don't require one.
Rubbish. If you declare a no licence required, they'll have your name & that guarantees get a visit off a goon. Opting to go down the route of a WOIRA will give them again your name & grounds for a search warrant as they believe you have something to hide. Most letters state "to the occupier." The best thing to do is just say "no thank you" & shut the door. Most convictions come from you talking to the goon on the doorstep. Don't sign anything. Just shut the door. That's the end of their investigation.
Another person who thinks they know better than a lawyer. No, they'll only have your name if you're stupid enough to give it to them. I told them to basically p*** off and never contact me again 13 years ago, withdrawing their IROA. Not heard a peep from them since.
Dont over complicate the issue. You bin the letters and when they turn up at the door - tell them to piss off. Thats it. Whether your watching legally or not. I aint had one for 12 years.
Of course you can. Issue a withdrawl of impied right of access, don't give them any personal info and tell them that they must remove your address from their database and must NOT contact you again EVER unless you ask them to. They MUST abide by those instructions by law.
I have received an email from them saying that their records show I have been using BBC iplayer. It has been impossible to get through to them on the phone. I finally got hold of an email address and have asked them for evidence. Any one had this happen?
No. Do not contact them at all. No letters, no emails, nothing. You are just giving them information. Rip up the letters ,say no thank you and close the door. Do not engage with them in any shape or form. The idea that a company can put out content that is easily accessible by anyone and then demand money for it through harassment is mind blowing.
you forgot to mention that the licensing people could get a search warrant (if they have sufficient evidence to convince a judge) in which case they would have a right of entry and it would be illegal to deny them access.

(and is the best option) i CANNOT emphasize this enough and no.. having an ariel on you roof is NOT enough for them to give you concern.. as you have said.. rented properties cant have the ariel removed by the tennent edit- they have no idea if you own or rent
the last time they turned up i said to them just keep on sending me the letter i love to have them they have a use if u run out of loo roll i even said that to there face lol
If any other company acted in the way that TVL do, they would be hauled up in court in no time. I completed the "No Licence Needed" declaration years ago. That's when the nasty letters started. It was only after I called them (I did not give them my name or any contact details) that they agreed to put a halt on the letters for 2 years, but stated they may still send someone round occasionally. Unacceptable in my opinion.
I think this is poor advice on many levels and a lot of clarity was missing. Don't talk to TV license agents at all. Streaming from Netflix etc is not allowed if it is live tv. The declaration only lasts two years. And so on....

This has been seen time after time, in fact the bbc used to run a fake cancel license website that reccommend doing this on purpose as it helped them get into the houses, they were exposed online by experts who knew it was bad advice and investigated them they found all ips lead to the bbc where it was being run from.
they are also known to put their own wires into the tv, retuning it.. then taking the owner to court for having recieved live programming infront of them, citing "obstuctiion of their duties" when you try to stop them..
because earning commision on convictions is NEVER a conflict of interests.. right?
snide as fuq
what he doesn’t tell you is that you don’t pay, they prosecute you in magistrates court who levy a fine and if you don’t pay that then the you can ultimately goto prison for non payment of a court fine. TV Licensing prosecute 100’s of people a week for no tv license
because people admit to it; sign stuff; or let them in!! No contact means no prosecution. Do you work for TVL or the BBC by any chance??
Nonsense.
@@bristolmod Exactly. If people are stupid enough to admit to anything then they're setting themselves up
hi do they visit at weekends. one came other day but was at work. can they take photos through windows
Hi kal, if watching sky TV through my virgin package, do I need a TV licence?
Hey, technically you will yes as it is a live broadcast you are watching :)
@BetterCallKal 👍🏾
There’s me thinking “soliciting gratuities with menaces” was unlawful? 🤔
Every time I get a letter to "The occupier" I send it on to the Israeli embassy. Not had a reply yet.
Been licence free for a few years. Will never give another penny to that traitorous, pdf filled company. #DefundTheBBC
Implied right of access does not exist in Scotland
Kal great video you got a new sub, can you do a video on old alleged debt . This is going back over six years where you pay say £ every month . The debts over the years have had different collection debt recovery agents . Is there any legal; way to stop these old alleged debts that keep getting transferred to different agents ,thank you
Great to have you on board mate!. I'll see what I can do. When you say alleged debt, what do you mean?
@ same story CC
Does anybody know a way of blanking out a connection on the tv set to stop receiving BBC. Yeh me neither!! I have heard of people allowing them entrance then they pick up the remote and find the BBC on the set and say you are being prosecuted.
It doesn’t matter what live tv stations you have on the television. You will be charged with watching live television without having a tv licence. To avoid any problems have your tv aerial removed.
They aren't allowed to touch your remote, they are supposed to ask you to do it
@@jillyjdh9408 that is if you let them in. You are under no legal obligation to do that unless they have a court warrant.
@@RonnieWeir-u5g Why? Having an aerial or dish plugged in isn't illegal and doesn't require a licence.... you might just use the radio channels which don't require one.
I heard Elvis is still alive and running a hotdog stand in Dagenham, don't mean it's true though
Yea,i notified tv company, still get harassment letters, even though I don't own a tv
Rubbish. If you declare a no licence required, they'll have your name & that guarantees get a visit off a goon.
Opting to go down the route of a WOIRA will give them again your name & grounds for a search warrant as they believe you have something to hide.
Most letters state "to the occupier."
The best thing to do is just say "no thank you" & shut the door.
Brilliant thanks ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for your video very helpful 🎉
You can't stop tv licence harassment. Just ignore them.
You can stop it. Report to police. I did and it stopped it.
Watt if you dont have the internet I have carnt aford it
What's next a smartphone/tablet licence or a gaming pc license🤣
I do not advise issuing WOIRA, because it just makes you a target.
Just don't interact with BBC/TVL.
Yet another person who thinks they know better than a lawyer
@stuartvale2901 There is no legal obligation to contact the BBC. Therefore my opinion is as good as yours.
you forgot to mention that the licensing people could get a search warrant (if they have sufficient evidence to convince a judge) in which case they would have a right of entry and it would be illegal to deny them access.
if the warrant is fraudulantly obtained it would be null&void and resistances WOULD be lawful..
No evidence needed. Just their word is enough.
What if youtube videos are live broadcasts?
Technically you need a license, this has happened recently with boxing
@BG-ef8sk thanks ...and IMO here lies the problem
Only if it's from a TV broadcasting company. If it's TH-camr or other amateur you do not.
How would they know....
@@MikeEves they don’t know, I was only saying technically you need a license, I watch live tv and bbc but don’t have a license, I’d never give a penny to the bbc
You don't have to tell them anything, open the door say get off my property, end of.
I don't watch live tv no more, its rubbish, we should have a choice
Québec love you ❤
Travel size lol good one.
I dont have a TV & never watch it either, i rent my property and the ariel is owned by the landlord. Im more than happy for them to enter, however, ive been told that by having an ariel im liable?
So can i come round and have a look inside your property? i'm sure you'll be more than happy :) ..
The aerial is totally irrelevant. Never let anyone in or explain anything. Just because you have no tv isn't that important nowadays, because you will be questioned about other devices like mobile phones & pc's. It's not worth your time & effort to explain your innocence, these goons are trained to trick you, & are paid to get convictions. Don't take chances with these goons visiting, you're not obliged to give your ID or any info, just close your door!.
NEVER EVER LET THEM IN YOUR HOUSE!!!!
they are NOT your friend!
they WILL screw you over for money in their pocket!
they are VERY likely to use snide tactics to earn themselves conviction commision!
(nothing to stop the goon from putting in their report that they found a tuned tv,
in your property after leaving it.. even if you dont own one.. who do you think the 'judge' will believe??)
do NOT engage with them in any way.. you are NOT legally obliged to! (and is the best option)
i CANNOT emphasize this enough
and no.. having an ariel on you roof is NOT enough for them to give you concern..
as you have said.. rented properties cant have the ariel removed by the tennent
edit- they have no idea if you own or rent
the last time they turned up i said to them just keep on sending me the letter i love to have them they have a use if u run out of loo roll i even said that to there face lol
Buy a shirt that Fits!
One phone call to the police Jon emergency number reporting the letters and a letter to the BBC with the crime reference number saw to these goons.
I think this is poor advice on many levels and a lot of clarity was missing. Don't talk to TV license agents at all. Streaming from Netflix etc is not allowed if it is live tv. The declaration only lasts two years. And so on....
Just ignore and shred nothing to see here.
16yrs not paid a penny 😁
You dont do a WOIRA either. That tells a prospective judge you got something to hide - and are more likely to grant a warrnet. Jesus no wonder you only got 500 subs. Your advice is pants. You just flaming well IGNORE THEM.
I like
How the BBC get away this is mind boggling stuff. ??

Chili Jon carne is so much better. Choose another subject.
Hello there I hate having to pay for separate tv licenses when we are vulnerable people who live in supported living but just in separate flats but in the building
So if you are watching live TV without a licence, just do an online declaration that you're not and they won't bother you? Brilliant...
jail time i hope... just bin the shyt
