Can I just say how I love that you're not skipping all of the songs that aren't just the last few bosses and instead getting familiar with his style and having the same sort of progression you'd have in the game.
Flavor Text for "Silence Before the Storms" CTTO: (name lost in time) The Hero stared down at the burning, charred remains of the greatest threat the realm had ever known: Calamitas. They wiped blood from their eyes, sheathed their sword, and breathed a sigh of relief; The nightmare was finally over. Then they heard the laugh. It was cold enough to freeze flame, and the repercussions of it were immediately evident. As they looked down at the corpse, they saw it dissolve, scattering into mere shadows, a now obvious duplicate. Their teeth clenched, barely-contained rage boiling inside of their veins, and yet, there was naught to unleash fire and fury upon. The arrival back to the home they had constructed was an awkward one. Townspeople applauded them for their heroic deeds, and yet, in the depths of their hearts, they knew it wasn't even close to being over. After cleaning the gore off their armor and re-attaching their limbs in the right places, they decided the best course of action was to clear their mind. A walk to the ocean; None of the common beasts of the land posed any sort of threat to them anymore. No. There was something far worse than mere corrupting beasts, playful slimes, or abhorrent flesh-monstrosities. They sat down upon the pier, chosen weapon in hand, and gazed upon the horizon. The Tyrant King's chosen servants would be coming soon, and the brief peace they had risked their life to obtain would be shattered in the flames of calamity. A clenched fist. A stoic stare into the future. There was surely a peace in this land worth fighting for; all they had to do was kill the ones responsible for all this destruction. All they had to do was destroy them all. Then, it could finally be over. The Hero gripped their weapon. A storm was coming: But they were ready for it.

Now, there is a mod that adds them in game: "Calamity Interludes In-game", which adds them at their lawful place. Silence before the storm plays after Calamitas has been defeated, and even greater dangers are to be met, like Leviathan and Anahita, for example
i enjoyed the imagery you described for the different sections of the songs. it's always interesting how similar (or different) people interpret these songs
It's honestly insane how much raw emotion and imagery Dokuro managed to shove into this one piece. This isn't even a 'main' song against a major threat or anything, this is for all intents and purposes a side quest.
That jungle drum that you were referring to is actually somewhat of a motif tying back to Cryogen. The Siren uses protective ice magic in conjunction with water attacks, so there's a bit of a link between the Archmage and the Siren. Also, the guitar layer on the third portion of the song signifies the Leviathan is present, and actually fades out if you kill it before you kill the Siren.
"Entrancing" I can't think of a better word to describe what you would expect a song titled _Siren's Call_ to sound like. (Siren's Call being part 1 of the Leviathan Trilogy, followed by Siren's Warcry and Forbidden Lullaby.)

Look out for a boss theme that isn't on the official OST playlist, but is still part of the official soundtrack and is a theme for a boss much later on. The theme is accessible here on YT, so don't forget to check out the Exo Mechs theme after the music of a boss named Yharon later on, as the Exo Mechs are fought after Yharon normally.

I think they were added with a recent update, I remember hearing a very different theme after Calamitas Clone that had priority over even the underground jungle music (I was getting ready to fight Plantera right after Calamitas Clone)
Holy crap, in all my time playing this game I never noticed the Infestation motif. However, you didn't notice that the flute part of the Leviathan's theme is actually "Tale of a Cruel World."
Could you elaborate more on that a bit? I do hear a similarity in structure between forbidden lullaby and tale of a cruel world, but it doesn't really sound like it, genuinely curious
@@ehawhar Yeah, that structure is a motif. It's not the exact same, but it has the main chord with some added instruments. Kinda like of the song Hollow Knight is in every single track on the Hollow Knight OST except for like... 4.
You should listen to "The Devourer of Gods (Nonstop Mix)", its honestly the most atmospheric and fitting with the boss fight! Love these videos regardless!

Hey SPG! I'm of the same opinion as you about classical music, the melodies are simple, the chords are a bit more complicated than the original melody of the music. Having said that, I have ten times less experience in composition, but one thing's for sure, I've learned what I know from the official scores of piano pieces. And that what you say is true. It's as you rightly mention, cinematic music has to be fairly faithful to the universe of the film, the game and above all the universe we want players, spectators etc. to want to hear.
Oh, the Leviathan Trilogy is one of my favorite song from Terraria Calamity! If you are looking for good video game music, then you can listen to some Epic Battle Fantasy soundtracks (Derelict Factory of Twisted Metal, Nymphis Fae or something else).
The Siren and the Leviathan are a tag team, an inseparable duo. I love calamity music cause, the more I listen to, the I enjoy because I start noticing things I wouldn’t have on my previous listens because of how well layered it is.
A recommendation alongside the Terraria OST and Calamity OST, the Terraria otherworldly OST. Originally a soundtrack designed for Terraria Otherworld back in 2015, but since the game's development was closed they added it as a "secret" soundtrack for Terraria 1.4, I believe, and the track is available on Steam as well.

I love the Leviathan Trilogy. The first time I played I got so confused by suddenly hearing a "Siren's Song/Call" as I was just finishing at the ocean, and seeing "???" on my radar, but stayed as close as possible to keep the music around. I also love how, when actually fought the boss, it's segmented as "The Siren's Song, The Siren's Battle, a brief interlude, The Leviathan Rises, Fighting Both to the end" 😁✨
it's really interesting hearing your takes on the story of these songs, and make me realy excited to hear your reaction to Roar of the Jungle Dragon. that whole song takes the player to "hell yeah i'm beating these hard bosses" to "oh god i'm defeating these hard bosses, am i the bad guy?"
I might get drowned out but may I suggest the Cassette Beasts' OST? All of the themes are bops and mutliple ones have a vocal version which also adds an extra instrument or two, some I suggest is Same Old Story, Wherever We Are Now, Cross Your Heart or Shot In The Dark, By the Campfire and Beat Down. Archangel Encounter is also a nice quick theme to listen to for it's purpose
Really have been loving this series so far, I absolutely love DM Dokuro's work on the Calamity ost (and other songs by other composers on it too!) and it's nice to see a music reaction series that doesn't have really over-the-top reactions to the music as well! As for other game ost suggestions, since you asked, I'd absolutely love to see a reaction to the various music from the PvZ franchise. It's got some music that's really iconic and I'm interested to see what you'd find in it that someone who doesn't have as much musical knowledge (like myself) wouldn't really notice!

I love the leviathan trilogy. Such an interesting series of songs for a boss fight. The first song is technically not part of the fight but plays when the siren spawns in the ocean. It doesn't attack you but as you might suspect the song is her sirens call to lure you in, then when you attack she goes on offensive with the second song then as she gets lower on health the gigantic monstrosity the leviathan shows up to aid her for the third song. The song names in order are sirens call, sirens warcry, and forbidden lullaby.

Actual fact. the leviathan trilogy was made from 3 soundtracks: siren's call, siren's war cry and the forbidden lullaby. All of these soundtracks will play during the boss fight with water elemental(/siren) and her friend leviathan, on surface of the deep ocean. And.. when leviathan spawns, it starts the monsoon and will play the forbidden lullaby (Sorry if my English is not good, I am russian)

I absolutely ADORE siren's war cry (the middle bit of the leviathan trilogy) however i always feel something is lost from the original version, which didn't contain it, and was instead composed of only siren's call and forbidden lullaby. I think it's the transition; the stark, sudden shift is lost in the leviathan trilogy. still absolutely gorgeous, and super dramatic
One thing I love about calamity interlude songs is it tell story but not story of someone but story of you it depends on you to interpret the story just like Terraria as a whole it have fix progression but it depends on you to walk exactly like the game intended or walk out of the way of game progression almost entirely
Devourer of gods nonstop mix is one of my favorite calamity songs. Someone in the comments was saying you reacted to them individually on steam but the nonstop mix is a different story they are so much better together plus you get a 4th version that has a short but beautiful guitar section

I might be the only one to say this, but I remember in your poll from some time back, I saw one of the options being Lisa: the Painful's OST. It would be SO nice to see you visit it, the game is so underrated, in many cases, tracks from the OST are more known than the game!
I really recommend Project Wingman’s OST. Its phenomenal. Professional Execution, Peacemaker I and II, Presidia, Kings - absolutely bombastic. Wolf in the Dark, Midnight Light - groovy as hell. And Showdown is - oh god, its so good.
no cap you gotta listen to Naktigonis - A Sarabande Of Thunder (phase 1 for ferryman), Naktigonis - Dance, If You Can! (phase 2 for ferryman), Naktigonis - The Gideshu March (the unofficial anthem for the Authority and ingame faction used as a marching tune.), and Naktigonis - Sin-Smelted Scoriae (one of the boss osts for Duke of Erisia)
A soundtrack I think you might like is the one from Starbound. It’s an eh game, but has some amazing orchestral pieces like The Deep and On The Beach at Night.
I literally started crying when you began playing "Silence before the Storms". I've been listening Dm Dokuro since 2020 and he didn't disappoint me so far, he always nails the atmosphere/vibe of the songs he makes.
Same bro I really wanted someone to listen and react to that music and it is one my favourite music like I don’t know why but whenever I listen to one my favourite musics of mine I get this feeling of connection like I could see a scene where the hero takes a stroll into the beach and sitting on a log with his sword and his helmet being placed beside him as he looks into the sun sitting and reflecting through his journey
I love how you interpreted this. Just to reference, heres what happens in the game during this soundtrack to see how unique you were. The “adventurous” part of the music will start playing when an NPC named Anahita spawns in the ocean biome with you nearby. The song is meant to act as a lure for the player to investigate. You describing it as entrancing definitely was accurate. The part where the drums kick in is after you attack the source of the song, Anahita. This part of the trilogy plays as you battle her. You describing it as an entire legion of men gives the song a whole new, yet very similar undertone. The part from the “Acid Jazz” onwards is when Anahita gets fed up with fighting you, and summons the titular Leviathan to aid her in combat. (You can actually see her in the top right of the Leviathan sprite!)
Have you checked out Jets’n’Guns soundtrack yet? It was all made by a Swedish SID-metal band called Machinae Supremacy and it combines 8-bit beeps and boops with heavy metal. It slaps severely.
You should give the Psychonauts 2's soundtrack a try! Beautifully composed, with so many faithful references to so many genres of music. Eye Shrine/PsyKings Sensorium are definitely some of my favorite tracks, as well as Lady Lucktopus, being beautiful homages to Early Prog/Art Rock and Big Band Jazz

"It's the type of music you would play for someone to relax" Yeah. except for when it's pre hardmode and you hear this theme while exploring the ocean and have to hope you don't trigger the fight by accident

Hey SPG, i hope youre good! While i will always suggest Bug Fables in the hopes it will get attention, I was also thinking, for something spooky, for halloween maybe, you could react to the Twisted Metal: Black soundtrack. Such as the main menu theme, rooftop theme, downtown, freeway battle.... Some are very ambient though but i think would be good for spooks. The rooftop theme is my favourite battle theme.
You should listen to regular Terraria music underground for the glowing mushroom biome, it has a very funky sound. It's completely crazy, and I love it.

Forbidden Lullaby was created before Infestation. The fact that those notes sound similar has to be coincidental

Really have been loving this series so far, I absolutely love DM Dokuro's work on the Calamity ost (and other songs by other composers on it too!) and it's nice to see a music reaction series that doesn't have really over-the-top reactions to the music as well!
As for other game ost suggestions, since you asked, I'd absolutely love to see a reaction to the various music from the PvZ franchise. It's got some music that's really iconic and I'm interested to see what you'd find in it that someone who doesn't have as much musical knowledge (like myself) wouldn't really notice!

I love the leviathan trilogy. Such an interesting series of songs for a boss fight. The first song is technically not part of the fight but plays when the siren spawns in the ocean. It doesn't attack you but as you might suspect the song is her sirens call to lure you in, then when you attack she goes on offensive with the second song then as she gets lower on health the gigantic monstrosity the leviathan shows up to aid her for the third song.
The song names in order are sirens call, sirens warcry, and forbidden lullaby.
I cannot wait until we get to Catastrophes Before the Calamities. It's hands down one of the best tracks in the ost.

Actual fact. the leviathan trilogy was made from 3 soundtracks: siren's call, siren's war cry and the forbidden lullaby. All of these soundtracks will play during the boss fight with water elemental(/siren) and her friend leviathan, on surface of the deep ocean. And.. when leviathan spawns, it starts the monsoon and will play the forbidden lullaby

I absolutely ADORE siren's war cry (the middle bit of the leviathan trilogy) however i always feel something is lost from the original version, which didn't contain it, and was instead composed of only siren's call and forbidden lullaby. I think it's the transition; the stark, sudden shift is lost in the leviathan trilogy. still absolutely gorgeous, and super dramatic
soon we'll be getting to the real heat of the OST
stuff like Fly of Beelzebub, Interstellar Stomper, Feral Amalgamation, etc

One thing I love about calamity interlude songs is it tell story but not story of someone but story of you it depends on you to interpret the story just like Terraria as a whole it have fix progression but it depends on you to walk exactly like the game intended or walk out of the way of game progression almost entirely
Devourer of gods nonstop mix is one of my favorite calamity songs. Someone in the comments was saying you reacted to them individually on steam but the nonstop mix is a different story they are so much better together plus you get a 4th version that has a short but beautiful guitar section

I really recommend Project Wingman’s OST. Its phenomenal. Professional Execution, Peacemaker I and II, Presidia, Kings - absolutely bombastic. Wolf in the Dark, Midnight Light - groovy as hell. And Showdown is - oh god, its so good.
The PS5 Frontline 59 side story also has some bangers, essentially the final boss fight
no cap you gotta listen to Naktigonis - A Sarabande Of Thunder (phase 1 for ferryman), Naktigonis - Dance, If You Can! (phase 2 for ferryman), Naktigonis - The Gideshu March (the unofficial anthem for the Authority and ingame faction used as a marching tune.), and Naktigonis - Sin-Smelted Scoriae (one of the boss osts for Duke of Erisia)
A soundtrack I think you might like is the one from Starbound. It’s an eh game, but has some amazing orchestral pieces like The Deep and On The Beach at Night.

I literally started crying when you began playing "Silence before the Storms". I've been listening Dm Dokuro since 2020 and he didn't disappoint me so far, he always nails the atmosphere/vibe of the songs he makes.
Same bro I really wanted someone to listen and react to that music and it is one my favourite music like I don’t know why but whenever I listen to one my favourite musics of mine I get this feeling of connection like I could see a scene where the hero takes a stroll into the beach and sitting on a log with his sword and his helmet being placed beside him as he looks into the sun sitting and reflecting through his journey

I love how you interpreted this. Just to reference, heres what happens in the game during this soundtrack to see how unique you were.
The “adventurous” part of the music will start playing when an NPC named Anahita spawns in the ocean biome with you nearby. The song is meant to act as a lure for the player to investigate. You describing it as entrancing definitely was accurate.
The part where the drums kick in is after you attack the source of the song, Anahita. This part of the trilogy plays as you battle her. You describing it as an entire legion of men gives the song a whole new, yet very similar undertone.
The part from the “Acid Jazz” onwards is when Anahita gets fed up with fighting you, and summons the titular Leviathan to aid her in combat. (You can actually see her in the top right of the Leviathan sprite!)
Silence before the storms is especially one of my favorites. It is not supposed to be part of the actual soundtrack. But I love it just the same.
I would recommend listening to the Rain World soundtrack. It is a mix of really ambient tracks as well as more intense ones
You should listen to the soundtrack for hi-fi rush. Specifically "Too Big to Fail," "Captive Normals," "My Heat Feels no Pain," and "The Fizzith"

Have you checked out Jets’n’Guns soundtrack yet? It was all made by a Swedish SID-metal band called Machinae Supremacy and it combines 8-bit beeps and boops with heavy metal. It slaps severely.

You should give the Psychonauts 2's soundtrack a try! Beautifully composed, with so many faithful references to so many genres of music. Eye Shrine/PsyKings Sensorium are definitely some of my favorite tracks, as well as Lady Lucktopus, being beautiful homages to Early Prog/Art Rock and Big Band Jazz

the zoologist didnt exist when it was drawn. It actually potrays DM Dokuro's OC, which is a theme in all three of the interludes.

Hey SPG, i hope youre good! While i will always suggest Bug Fables in the hopes it will get attention, I was also thinking, for something spooky, for halloween maybe, you could react to the Twisted Metal: Black soundtrack. Such as the main menu theme, rooftop theme, downtown, freeway battle.... Some are very ambient though but i think would be good for spooks. The rooftop theme is my favourite battle theme.
