Thank you for showing me that hydroponics really is doable! Ordering my supplies and excited to give this a try. I've been a conventional gardener for over a decade but hydroponics has seemed very daunting -- until now. Thank you again 😊

watercress is amazing was grown in the English winters for a Veg way back when .Brimming with more than 15 essential vitamins and minerals, gram for gram, watercress contains more vitamin C than oranges, more calcium than milk, more iron than spinach and more folate than bananas. This super-healthy plant will help to keep you in tiptop shape and ranks at the top of many superfood lists.

Hey Khang. My mom wanted some watercress, out of the blue, so, I decided to check out one of your videos and try to grow some indoor for her. Great info. Thanks and take care.

Great video thanks for sharing. Another suggestion -instead of dealing with those tiny seeds, is simply buying a bunch of watercress in the supermarket and using about 2 inches or so of the harder stems -many of which will already have roots -in your kratky or deep water hydro system

Nice video yet again, thank you. the roots coming out at the joints along the stem. As a teen I had a horse, not a car, and I roamed a rural area of S. California, sort of lived on my mares back. One day she and I were in a long gorge called La Barranca, it had a stream in the bottom of a 150 ft drop. We would go there and rest hang out, she would eat grass. I also foraged, I found watercress growing in the little stream also wild celery once, yes I ate them. I am curious how watercress might do in a lengthy container like crops that run? Anyway, thanks for the videos you are an inspiration to me. btw... 40+ years ago how pristine our water was, sure hope we can try to keep it clean or get it back to it's pristine conditions.

I 'm growing my water cress grew outdoor. It took forever to germinate and growing in the Fall, probably due to the old seeds, not growing as fast like in this clip. They've just starting to take off recently and survive some very cold frost down to 18 F ( with a little protection by plastic covering).

Cool, btw you can’t drown watercress roots as they grow almost fully submerged in the wild.

Thank you for your video! I don't enjoy growing outdoors because of the bugs, heat, and health issues, so I grow microgreens. I saved a lot of money by swapping out the rockwool with those green scrubbing pads. Love my microgreens salads.🥬

I like your videos a lot. I want to continue to do this but anytime I add nutrients in any system like this I always end up with a fly problem which I just don't want in my apartment. I dont believe they were aphids, but gnats. i am trying to grow my watercress outdoors now, but have not gotten seeds to sprout. I may have over watered, though the advice is to give plenty of water. sigh

Where I live, there are no hydroponic stores, or supplies. We do not have rockwool. If I want to do this, I will have to piecemeal it together. What are the nutrients? I am guessing N-P-K-Ca-Mg, but in what ratios? We can get peat, but it looks like rodent bedding. I have limited success with growing outdoors in soil using a pellet fertilizer I found (thank you Google Translate!) but this hydroponics looks somewhat simple and a little idiot-proof (good for me!), and I won't have to worry about bugs or the occasional typhoon.

James B I saw someone using just compost tea. I have fed my plants just water from growing sprouts and they love it. I also add sprout water to cutting I have stuck in bottles, and they do well in that for a long time. I also googled, a long time ago, homemade hydroponic nutrients and there were several results. It was too complicated for me. My sprout water and compost tea seem ok to me. I am getting some hydroponic nutrients from amazon, just to see if it really is better.

Thanks for the video. I have also watch the video narrowed by Kratky himself. Wondering if you reckon I can use coco coir as the medium? I am planning to grow them in a quart mason jar. Also, in his video i believe he had the bottom 1" of the net pot submerged in the reservoir at the start. Is there any particular reason you had reservoir level way below?

    • @KhangStarr

Most seeds sprout better when it's warmer, like peppers. I leave them under my grow lights to sprout.

Khang, be careful of your "s" ending words. Vietnamese people don't pronounce them, but for good English u need to. Example: "bring" should be "brings" for singular subjects. "grow" should be "grows" for singular subjects. Example: It grows well - NOT it grow well. Listen to your video.
