      Yo! Kinda sad you never got around to a formal review of this amp. The tube 60 is maybe the best modeling amp of all time. And by best, I don't mean necessarily the most accurate...I mean it's just the best sounding (which is what actually matters). Super cool that the amp tones/distortion is analog. Also cool
      That the effects were done by the Damage Control (aka Strymon) guys.

      @@kevinp_25I’m way late to the party but I’m genuinely thinking about buying a used one of these. Do you think it’s still worth buying in 2024? It sounds so damn good I’m just worried for the lack of support and discourse due to it being discontinued.

    In my opinion... the Vypyr 60 watt Tube series are tonally the best kept secret on the market to this very day~ especially for the price! The heavy tones you went through on this video really translated well! Great job, Taylor! 🤘😎👍

    The tube 60 & 120 are the best of Vypyr line and still holds its own. I've had one for a number of years and it's not going anywhere. If yours has the stock speaker, try swapping it out. A good speaker upgrade really lets this beast roar. Sounds even better through a proper 4x12 like that Mesa cab you had it sitting on.

    • @alexanderwastell5298
      @alexanderwastell5298 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wasn't much of a fan of the stock speaker either out of curiosity I paired it with a celestion 70/80 and ran it with a chopped bandit 112 together surprisingly it sounds really good wich is odd considering both speakers aren't anything special on their own infact I hate 70/80 with all of my heart but now I can't bring my self to get rid of either speaker.

    This amp is the best tube modeler to ever exist. And with the Sanpera 2 foot controller you can do so much more with it. I have one still to this day. Of course with all the Mesa gear i own, this Peavey sits in a closet with many other unused amps/tube amps. But it is a good amp for home use for sure. Tell Ya' What, I'm not a combo guy and always have and had a head and cab for the last 30 years but Just picked up one of these in near mint condition the other day and HHHooolllyyy Cooowww!!!!....Switched out the power tubes to Mesa str-420's and an 80's nos Jan phillips 12ax7wa....GGGaaa!!!!!!!!!!!! Will give my mesa mark iv a run for the money. What's also cool, is that when i plug in my boogie 1x12 cab out of the Vypyr's speaker out, The Vyper still produces sound out of the amp and doesn't cut the sound off like normal amps do when a separate cab's plugged in . I spread out the cab and the amp about 12 feet apart with a long speaker cable and it was pure brutal destruction in both directions with a faux stereo sound (6505) setting....Grab one of these...I'm a believer!

    Man that Kelly is so sweet . I’ve got a weird thing about Jackson’s headstocks . All the non reverse Jacksons I’ve played give me a claustrophobic illusion or something. It bothers me not being able to see much of the headstock . Is just a weird personal from my playing POV. They look great watching. They haven’t made a ton of cool affordable reverse headstock Kelly guitars. Kellys are my favorite explorer style guitar and I’m surprised more people don’t use them . You’re going to find your funny bone really quick playing one seated is the only drawback I have noticed . Anyway cool guitar and I’m glad to see some affordable gear getting some love . I wish Peavey would get back to making amazing value gear in the United States again .

But there's one thing, I can't be sure if its compatible with bass guitar and if so, is there a specific 'instrument channel' for that like in newer series? There are 3 banks A,B,C and 4 presets to each of those. Probably it doesn't matter what guitar I plug in: electric, semi-acoustic guitar or bass but Im not sure. Anyone knows?

    Had the 100w head version of this amp. Absolutely killer product, used it for shows and didn’t need a crazy pedalboard, just the sanpera controller that it came with. Even better when there was a backline provided.
    I only wish Peavey would take the OG tube version and make it into a mini head that could keep up with a drummer volume wise.
    And not gig volume wise, but full band practise in a tiny confined space volume wise. (I only say that as I have the 6505MH and although the tone in it is killer it couldn’t keep up at band practice).
    I already know as soon as you hook this up to the 4x12 it’ll sound killer. The hi gain tones in this amp are beyond legit.

    Can you get good tones out of this thing while having the volume low? Basically is this good for apartments, or do you need to have the volume cranked?

    • @shanemackay493
      @shanemackay493 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the 60W tube, it definitely sounds better once you pass 2 or 3 on the master knob. In my experience, that has been too loud for apartments. It does have a headphone jack output (3.5mm), so you can plug in pretty easily if needed.

      Katana is better.

    • @ordohereticus3427
      @ordohereticus3427 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheCyberMantis I’ve heard similar opinions from others, but it’s usually on grounds of software issues with the Vypyr Tube. Would you say that when it comes to heavy, high gain tones and that tube-like fullness and perceived loudness, the Katana still beats out a fully functioning Vypyr Tube?

    • @TheCyberMantis
      @TheCyberMantis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ordohereticus3427 It would come down to personal preference. All these solid-state digital things are typically used for practice, or band rehearsal. Nobody records albums with them. And usually, players use other stuff to gig with. Can you gig with a Katana head and a 4x12 cab? Sure. It would work. And if it gets dropped or knocked-over, you won't be crying about it. But would a EVH Stealth 100-watt head or a ENGL Fireball 100 sound better at your gig? Absolutely! So it depends on what you want. Do you want cheap convenience... or do you want the best sounds? For home practice use, the Katana or the Vypyr is great. Plus, they have built-in effects. That sweet tube head is going to need a pedal board, so that pushes the overall cost up even higher. You could spend $2k+ on the amp, and another $2k for a pedal board setup! $350 gets you a Katana head, effects included. Add the GA-FC footswitch for another $120, and go gigging. HUGE price difference, makes the Katana a serious option.

      WELL I'M GLAD YOU ASKED. I actually bought this to compare to the Katana MK2 head and another amp... That video is coming soon. Spoiler. They're both plenty loud, but I much prefer the tone on the vypyr so far, HOWEVER, I haven't even opened the MK2 Katana yet..
