Nice video with simple and precise instructions. One ingredient I did not see included is either ground split peas and or ground urdi daal (besan) which my Ma always included. She never used yeast. I guess that was the old time bara vs the modern version. Love your videos.

Basically kulchas? Eaten with channa dal? What a long journey from the homeland! Here kulchas and chick peas, puris and potato curry are to die for.
🤤 🤤 so delish I'd rather leave this to Trini experts to make for me though😆 🤣
Hello I am a trini and my name is Tricia I saw that you were picking your peppers on the outside on your patio do you have any tips for planting pimento peppers successfully ? I live in Miami Florida. Thank you.
Can I borrow your Bara recipe please I sell doubles in tnt and your recipe is by far the best I've seen
Husband did a good job with that bara , Thanks for posting
Our pleasure!
❤❤❤❤
These recipes are awesome! Thank you for sharing! Question- what do you think gives a softer bara? Sugar added to the dry ingredients (of yeast etc) and no baking powder? Or baking powder and no sugar? I’ve tried both as I’ve seen so many varying recipes … curious what you thought?
My bara is perfect. Give it a try! 😀
@@CookingWithRiaWill do and will let you know the results! Thank you!
@@CookingWithRiaso I gave it a shot and you’re right! 🎉this is by far the best recipe I have used to date and I have used several! Thanks so much!
Hi and thank you for sharing some of your beautiful culture with all of us! Can you please let me know what was the spice that you used , was it amchar masala? Thank you!

Yes amchar massala and geera(cumin). Thanks!
Very nice-:)
Many thanks
Tamarind stew next.Very informative.Thank you
Most welcome 😊
Bravo 👏🏽 Ria ❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰😋😋😋hubby to...
Hey Ria, I’ve missed watching you 😊
Thank you! 🥰
Can canned chickpeas be used instead to cut prep time?
Yes!
I cant seem to get Bandhania in the UK, if your using coriander (Cilantro) would you use the same ratios? Does Bandhania have a stringer or weaker flavour than coriander?
Bandhania aka culantro is stronger. Add to your liking.
How long do you cook a bara on each side for? Also, it seems like I haven't been flattening mine enough before frying because it always come out thick. I've been trying to get it to come out thinner for the longest.
If the oil is hot enough only a few seconds. Thanks.
Is it translucent when you lift it up?
Can the dough freeze?
I am Haitian and I love me some doubles and bake shark
Thanks

This is definitely good cooking techniques for getting that special finger licking goodness ! . . Question: Am I allowed to eat this scrumptious-ness with a knife & fork ?
Thanks. Do whatever makes you happy. 😀❤️
Yummy trini to the bone
My husband and I made doubles this weekend for the first time for Father’s Day. We took our kids to Trinidad for 12 weeks last year, and we’ve craved doubles since the day with left TT. We lived in Diego Martin, and I still keep in touch with my doubles lady. 😊 I made tamarind sweet sauce instead of mango. It was all delicious, but I am going to try your bara and channa recipe next time.
My oldest daughter loves aloo pie with cheese, channa, plenty sweet. She calls it “God’s work.” I want to make that next. Then, I need to make Maracas Bake and Shark with chicken. 🤤🤤
❤️🇹🇹❤️
Thank you for sharing. Hope you enjoy my recipes. 🥰
It's just a distant relative of Delhi's special Chana Bhatura .
With a variety of chutneys
Yes, you are right
Dear, I have a question, apart from the chickpea, do you put something else? like a yellow lentil or a yellow pea? Im doing the recip already lol
Yea split peas.
Please see the printable recipe.
Thanks and enjoy!
Does the Dahl have to soak over night as well?
No-thanks
Real trini doubles
How to make shadow Beni pork please
You make the chutney with the mango skin? Do you eat the skin?
Yes, most delicious part!
👏👏👍👌⚘
How much water did you use Ria
For channa or bara? Full recipe here: water for channa is listed in the instructions: cookingwithria.com/2018/12/how-to-make-trinidad-doubles-detailed-recipe-instructions/
I am of the knowledge that a Bara is made with a combination of flour and split peas/Dhal
Husband did a great job with the bara...but messy with the eating..😁😁
Sure is! 😂
Yellow split peas are called Dahl??
Yes that’s what we call it in Trinidad.
Filming suggestion: zoom out a tad bit. It was kind of hard to view.
Whatever device you're using to watch the incredible recipe, stand/sit 20 feet away. Simple fix, no need for her to zoom out, you can do that.
@@thetruthhurts599 I understand you have love/admiration/even slight fixated obsession, but it’s a constructive suggestion. I’m not attacking her or the recipe (did not mention any of those), simply camera angles.
I really suck, mine came out like bake again smfh 😕 wish I knew someone that could teach me how to make it in person
Press it out much thinner -almost see thru-and stack them on each other after frying to flatten. Don’t give up.
Why did my baras turn pink or red ince I fried them
Did you add baking soda? Did you use my recipe?
I used your recipe, yes I did add baking soda. I think I added a little garam masala to it. Could that be the reason?
I heard someone say once you could use masala I like the flavor so I added it. I won't next time.
Also, after I let the bara rest for the hour it's not as soft as yours. It's a little tough once I make the baras into small dough balls. I tried letting it rest longer as well, it's still tough. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've made this several times and the taste is awesome tho! Thanks Ria
