I like the "left over supports" for this big models, a few extra pieces to help the building process is a good thing. Thje building process is part of the fun
My father was a licenced aircraft engineer for British Airways and serviced Concorde for the lifetime of the aircraft. I can't wait to buy this and give it to him to build for me. So proud of him and his service on one of mankinds greatest technological achievements, and the model looks absolutely stunning! Amazing!
I have seen supports be used by Lego before, mostly in older Technic sets where they were used to keep front & rear wheels aligned. However, I'm pretty sure the leftovers of those sets were repurposed into later parts of the build. The Starry Night set also has a lot of extra 1x4 plates that are acknowledged in the manual, probably to give some leeway if you make a mistake building the back "wall". Overall though, I've never seen anything like the supports here. I do like them, though!
I have built many complex Lego sets, such as the 9800R Liebherr excavator. The tricks used in this set are without a doubt the most advanced building techniques I have every seen in a production Lego set. Normally these are only used to create the displays at the Lego land amusement parks. Definitely looking forward to building this.
A truly unique and substantial build with great, and unusual techniques throughout. Very impressed how solid, and stable the plane is given it's sheer length and precariously balanced stand. Also really like how all the parts all printed and not stickered. Needs to become the standard of all Lego Icons sets at some point given the 18+ target audience and how much they cost.
I quite like the livery they went with actually. The Concorde test livery is quite famous in its own right and was pretty much the only way you'd have seen Concorde looking between its First flight in 1969 and 1976 when airlines first began to fly it. There's an aircraft museum near where I live which has one of the original Concorde prototypes and thus it's in this livery too
Agreed. It's a vital care-about for any model airplane. As someone of pension age, I still like to swoosh my Lego Sopwith Camel biplane from time to time. 😅
Wow, I think last time I was really impressed by a Lego set was many years ago when I built the Arocs. Since then, I was always left after the impression that Lego could do more with their more complicated sets. And this Concorde is just wonderful in every way I can think of. Mad respect for the designing team that brought this to life. I hope one day they'll bring back the fun in Technic as well, because they are rocking the system builds nowadays. And thank you for making this video such an immersive experience, it really felt like I was building it :)
The orange connector at 3:45 is used for disassembly of the Concorde. When you push the axle in on step 140 after assembling the fuselage, it "fixes" the fuselage to the wing and you can damage the pieces with brute force disassembly. You can reach the orange connector with a long axle from the landing gear bay to undo step 140 before disassembly. Not too intuitive, but it's nice they considered it and learned from the AT-AT mishap...
$200 for a plane that over a meter long - best bang for the buck for '23! Can't wait to get a set to build and hang on the wall (hoping someone makes a custom 3D printed wall mount for this Concorde.
I was very impressed with your video and commentary. I love all the little comments you throw in as the build takes place as to how and why things are done and also how some parts can be a bit tricky to put together. The finished product looks great and I might just have to go out and buy it now. After watching your presentation and how well you came across in the video, I've now subscribed to your channel. Thanks again.
I’m currently 12 bags in. I’m so impressed with how amazing this build is so far. It’s absolutely huge. But the inside parts that make the Concorde what it is are phenomenal.
I'm not a big aviation enthusiast, but the Concorde is such a marvel of engineering and its elegance makes it truly iconic. Funnily enough, I was considering buying a Peugeot 9x8 Technic set at the store (I'm more of a Technic fan) but saw the Concorde at the same price -139€ - and my knees started to wobble a bit. Grabbed it, purchased it and I can't wait to start building the thing. At THAT price, the amount of pieces and the level of accuracy that you get makes this probably one of the best Lego sets you can buy at the moment.
I used to make single layer wings like those when I was a kid. Never thought it would actually be built this big. It's amazing! Really want one in my studio.
@RacingBrick you’ve shown the absolute BEST idea on how to utilize the awesome giant sized Lego technic supercar series by mounting it on a matching background (reminds me of Porsche’s history of great marketing) and then mounting to the wall vertically, I have just the space to put such a thing and now I can totally justify the few hundred dollar cost as the equivalent of a nicely framed whatever. Great job friend. Great review of the Concorde.
I just finished building this and enjoyed the build very much but I enjoy the finished result even more - looks amazing! What's more - it really is totally swooshable!
I got mine from the Lego store 9/4 as soon as they opened. 5 build hours later it’s done. I have to agree with you that it’s like building a big speed champions set. Engaging and not too repetitive and the finished model is awesome. It’s my new favorite also. As good as the space shuttle and Saturn V.
The only gripe I have with the set is the lack of landing gear doors, so the gear is always exposed which makes it looks a bit ugly. Certainly going to get my hands on the set though and perhaps look into covering the exposed landing gear even if that means loosing the gear retracting functionality.
I am with you on that , i was thinking the same thing when i get this set , my OCD needs a fix for those exposed landing gear but most wont care because it still is an amazing set ..
I just bought this set three hours ago but I can’t build it because I started building another set that I got at the same time and once I got to the 60th part turns out it wasn’t even in the set so I couldn’t even build any more than that, so I’ve just been sitting here with an unfinished Lego set looking for the piece for the past three hours
This set is awesome, and you detailed review convinced me to purchase a Concorde. Can’t wait to build it and use the various fantastic building techniques
Ok, after watching the review - this is awesome. So can we now expect to get a series of planes in speed champions approach? Ideally I would love to have WWII warbirds, but that's out of the question, so maybe just commercial airliners and small private planes and helicopters?
The Lego Concorde is my 20th (and biggest) model of Concorde! In various scales, plastic kits, desk models, diecast and the cobi one too - interestingly, i now have the same number of Concorde models as examples built of the real thing
I did some customisation for my lego Concord(e) set to look more like the 1976 - 1984 British Airways livery. I even customised the visor to look more realistic to 002 prototype's visor as well to the delta wings with more details with the numbers from 1 through 15 on them which was a pain since Lego got it in the mixed livery and they left some decals out.
Your way of explaining the build makes for the first time since my childhood, that I am actually interested about getting and building anything in Lego. And boy, my childhood is long gone. 😅
When I built the Discovery I felt it was fragile until a certain point, so the orange pieces are probably to counter those criticisms. I'm impressed with the set but I have nowhere to display it.
The orange connector helps you with disassembly because you push the shaft inside and lock the upper cover with no way to push it out. With the orange connector you have access to it from the bottom and you can use a screwdriver to push back the orange connector with the connected shaft 😊
Yet another great review from (in my opinion) the best Lego reviewer on TH-cam. I was waiting for your review on this one with anticipation and thankfully it came before VIP release date. I’m definitely putting my order in tomorrow; your detailed review has sealed the deal for me 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I think I understand the use of the orange Technic connector. The piece is connected to the black axel that you have to push in. Now you cant remove the panel, but also can't remove the axle. But I believe that if you open the landing gear, you can reach the orange connector and slid it back to remove the black axle. Still don't know how you are suppose to remove the grey axles with stops from the panels?
@edgarleft I believe that you'd be able to push the 8L grey axles out during the disassembly; the forward one once the block assembly from steps 261-264 is removed, and the rear appears that it could be removed in the same way but by pushing on the orange piece (at the appropriate rotational angle). But I don't, yet, have any desire to disassemble mine to confirm.
Just to add to the comments, I remember the Lego Technic Crawler (41999) having structural supports that weren't used in the end build. I've literally just finished this build and it's amazing.
Great video and I am excited to build mine. It is too bad that they didn't model after the first production model. I recall as a kid seeing the Concorde for the first time in my dad's Aviation Week magazine with British Airways on one side, and Air France livery on the other side as a special inaugural livery. Then again, I was 7 years old, but that's what i remember.
I'll have to hit Mall of America to grab one... Target stores carry a lot of the mid range kits, but rarely ones above $250. That's where the really fun kits start at... lol
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet but the 10248 Ferrari F40 comes with like, 4 1x4 green plates used for supports during the build that aren't included in the final model. That's the only set in my collection I can think of that has supports like that that aren't used in the final build
I finished withit. It is stunning. I also have the Discovery, but the Concorde overrules it. I've found the Ikea Billy + Höogbo combination to fit the Concorde diagonally and the shuttle with also fit into the upper part.
Really enjoyed your review. Your enthusiasm for this model really comes through. Having watched your video, I’ve now ordered the model. Can’t wait to build it!
Am 90% through this build, rather impressed with its size. Quite a simple fast, build. Must admit I got this same time as Eldorado Fortress and I REALLY REALLY enjoyed the fortress build. The way the base is build vs the original made for a great build, probably my favourite build ever, out of my vast collection, including ghostbusters house, nasa space shuttle, Apollo 11, Merc pumatic truck (my least fav) echo 1, both cranes trucks, Land Rover discovery etc etc
My first big build. And enjoyed every bit of it. Love this so much. Wish I had bigger hands and muscles to play with it hahaha. And a bigger table for display. But the smaller desk highlights how big this beast is.❤
Waiting for this set, all of the reviews including this one are very positive. Local it’s $299 (AUD) but have my name down for release on Monday. Cheers.
I waited until I finished my build before watching this video. What a fantastic build. Great video as always. My top set so far although I have a few boxes waiting to be built.
I knew I was going to buy this set the moment I saw the leaked images. But now that I know what an incredible build experience it is, I might have to buy two! 😂
The Van Gogh - Starry Night set also had larger than usual leftovers: 8 pieces of 1x4 and 4 pieces of 1x2 brick plates (from the 50-row high background board).
The big parts that where left at the end of the build where use to support the it! LEGO does this sometimes! For exemple in the LEGO Creator Expert Ferrari f40 they use two 1x4 green plates to support the back of the car during building!
This is a Lego set I want really badly... I've not bought any Lego in almost 7 years but this one has really caught my eye... I just don't have to he money as a student :((
My guess is that in the future there will be designers on rebrickable that will create a British Airways/Air France livery which you can buy and create a different livery so ima buy the set today and get the livery later
I typically go for the Lego automobiles and bikes (and occasional Star Wars sets). But I might actually throw money at this one. The build experience appears to be uniquely fun and challenging.
I remember this box sitting beside the Titanic in a Lego store in Singapore. I originally wanted the Titanic as it also was on a discount. But the weight kept me from buying it. 14 kilograms is no joke and I knew my luggage would be overweight when going home to Denmark. I had to go with the Concorde instead because I just wanted a cool plane to be in my apartment back in Denmark and because it weighed a little over 3 kilograms. I did build the Concorde while living at my cousin’s home but I didn’t thought of the size of this beautiful plane until it dawned upon me: Oh dear, it is so big! 😮😩 It can’t fit into my luggage and disassembling it was a pain. I thought nothing more of Concorde and went on my way onboard an Airbus A380 to Heathrow Airport, London. Unfortunately my mother I couldn’t get a direct flight to Copenhagen… but there was another surprise waiting just sitting and looking good at the runway. No, not our Scandinavian Airlines plane and a boy sitting behind kept blabbering about the Concorde. 🙄 He then said: Look! There’s the Concorde! I thought it was a joke and looked to my left. What treat for the eyes! Love at first sight 🥰 I have build my Concorde and I had to make room for it. So remember to have room to place it. 😎👍🏽
The orange parts are just like real life counterpart. In aerospace industries most commonly while aircraft still in early prototype phase, engineer would install various equipment and instrumentation to collect data from various place inside aircraft. And guess what, they mostly identified with orange colour. And after flight test phase finished, they removed all of that equipment before entering service

Been waiting for this one
I'm wondering why the planes wings don't use plates. Will it change the pricing of the set?
7:26 - if you’re doing fair and unbiased reviews, why don’t you mention or call out the obvious misalignment in the red striping?
@@Av-vd3wkhe did mention it wtf ?

If it doesn’t affect the price then I don’t mind it, and I welcome it
Would have been kind of cool if the parts were used for the stand or something.
@@noaho0862 true, but the stand's archway pieces are perfect for it regardless
@@raiden1425 definitely I just think it would have been interesting parts usage

I remember the Mustang used the pieces for the nitro tank as supports for the front bumper before being used to build said tank
Yeah, like with the mustang, some brick round 2 x 2 were used as support, but later used as 'nitro-tank' or so. So not really leftovers
Exactly what I was thinking of, 8421 and 42009 did this with the parts that synchronized the wheel axles, but they were used later in the build
It’s really too bad they didn’t use them in the stand.
The 10248 Ferrari F40 used extra pieces for stabilization that were not repurposed back into the set (I think green 1x4 plates).
I have built many complex Lego sets, such as the 9800R Liebherr excavator. The tricks used in this set are without a doubt the most advanced building techniques I have every seen in a production Lego set. I'm holding out for the Mega Blocks Tupolev Tu-144
I feel so damn happy that I have this amazing set!
Awesome review. Did you notice any color inconsistencies in white pieces?
dsoesnt really happen with the white i think, just dontn leave it in the sun
@@stonksrgud7645 If you pause the video around 9:44 you can see quite a bit of variation in the white parts
I don't really see color inconsistencies, but different pieces might have slightly different reflections so there's a perception of variation
The orange connector could be used for disassembly by putting a pin or axle in the pin hole and pulling? I think that makes sense
That will look epic at the side of the space shuttle
The orange parts are just like real life counterpart. In aerospace industries most commonly while aircraft still in early prototype phase, engineer would install various equipment and instrumentation to collect data from various place inside aircraft. And guess what, they mostly identified with orange colour. And after flight test phase finished, they removed all of that equipment before entering service
