Great o see you still resurrecting the trash pile Tim ! A bucket of Evapo-Rust would serve you well. Works great !You remind me of being in my gramp's Smithy. Only a coal forge with no power or lights, hammers all over the walls in racks and a blower soooo very much like yours. Sure brings back some wonderful memories. He would have been in 7th heaven in your shop ! That is a piece I would be proud to have in my kitchen my friend !

I assumed there was pretty much no chance of that happening as soon as he started. Nice thought, but no feasible way to work them down that thin while also setting forge welds and still have them there.

@bBgDog from Moondog, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with the rest of the world. I learn something new from every one of your videos. From my limited knowledge I don't think any of those inclusions compromise the integrity of the blade, but they certainly give it character! I would be proud of that cleaver if I had made it. I have a way to go on my learning experience before I make an item like this, but hope that someday I will be the proud owner of a handforged cleaver for my kitchen. The fact that you re-used an old tool at the end of it's life and gave it a new use for many years to come is admirable.

It’s cool to know you’re local. I had no idea Puyallup had a flea market, & I lived there for quite a while. Of course, that was 20 years ago, so maybe it’s a newer thing. I’ll have to check it out. Been looking for a source for used tools. Great video! Learned a bunch. Beautiful end result.

beautiful cleaver, as always you did a great job and i love the idea of recyling old tools. Yesterday i made my first piece of motorcycle chain damascus inspired by you, i watched your video twice it was a great help, i ended up with a six inch billet that was perfect first try..... beginners luck? I just want to say thank you for posting these videos they are highly informational and are an inspiration to people like me.

very rustic, old world w/ loads of character..
I got several $20 samurai swords which were hilarious, one bent like taffy when I slapped it against something (cut in half for two knife blades). Advertised as full tang, but had flimsy piece of threaded strip of metal (literally....not proper rod, but a scrap of metal). Another had plastic shipping strap packed into where the full tang should've been, but that one has a pretty good stainless blade that I've used harshly, put through many plastic water jug slicing tests. I welded strip on to make it full tang which drastically increased weight, then fill the huge plastic 'dragon motif' handle with Elmer's glue all Max ($10/eight ounces) which is awesome foaming polymer glue that filled it up entirely: that sword is tough as nails now.
