    I'm an electrician. Unions are essential for the labor class. Even today in 2023 ive been reprimanded, spoken to by the supervisor (intimidated), and written up for taking a couple sick days off with a doctors note. And thats while im in the union. Ive worked non union too. In both union and nonunion ive seen guys get fired for coming in a few minutes late, for getting hurt (famous quote in the trades: "if you get hurt, you are fired before you hit the ground") Basically, the labor class is extremely cutthroat in most cities and unions are necessary for providing a semblance of power for the workers. Also pay and benefits are better while still outbidding nonunion shops for big projects (otherwise we wouldnt be in business, people outside this field pretend unions are bad, we have to compete with nonunion shops. Usually by being cheaper/safer/faster/efficient)

    • @Aeyamar
      @Aeyamar ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I think the general public discourse around unions having been so dominated by one side has lead to people having no understanding of how just cause standards actually work. It's not impossible to fire someone, it just forces the company to have open standards, documentation of misconduct, and an escalating process applied evenly to every employee. It's analogous to the right to due process to prevent the govt from arresting people for no reason.

    • @vgrepairs
      @vgrepairs ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Aeyamar yes exactly you get fired for getting hurt on the job. You get treated like dirt. Ive seen fellow union apprentices get kicked and shoved by their foremen and noone says anything. The union provides us basic health insurance, education, and retirement benefits. It isnt this all powerful tool that produces lazy workers, there are lazy workers in EVERY field.

    • @mrrodgers0
      @mrrodgers0 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      From what I've seen from studying labor econ, it happens when unions grow past the regional level into the national. (At least in the US) The administrative costs of representing members across a country as big and economically diverse as ours balloon really fast, and top leadership is too far removed from the average member to be properly held accountable. Unions need to big enough to throw their weight around in negotiation, but not so large that they become an interest group unto themselves, separate from the workers they represent.

    • @StealthNinja4577
      @StealthNinja4577 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Unions are ironically corporations seeking rent and monopolizing a commodity - they destroy industry productivity, limit employment, drive costs up onto consumers, end up doing the opposite of what they say they want i.e wealth growth and protection. Paying union dues is like paying the mafia for their "protection" and thinking you're in their club. It's hard for people to hear or accept these things because of how they've been lied to

      Unions are good and bad. The reason we have child labor laws* and the 40 hour work week is all thanks to unions. Unions that form a very much so a positive against corporate down pressures and firing. Plus they tend to foster comradeary between workers. Pisses management the fuck off, and that's always funny too me.

    The average person, especially some of Rudy Patreon members don't really know how business works. After M&A, leadership very often exits... not just at TCG Player. It doesn't matter if there is drama or not, leaders of companies like to be leaders of companies. When that is not an option, they leave for other opportunities.
    My company was part of a very large acquisition ($13B+) 3 years ago, I moved over to the larger company since and only 2 executives remain at my former company. The CEO and CFO were the 1st to go at around the 1 year mark - likely an agreement that kept them that long.
    100% possible that there are other reasons the CEO of TCG Player is leaving, but when we don't have any actual information otherwise, it is always wise to assume based on the odds/math, not conspiracy theories.

    There is a fee for unions. The good thing about unionizing is it CAN foster better work environments and better benefits offered from the employer. The problem is TCG would have to make drastic changes to keep compliant with the union agreement. This would create jobs and make TCG have to invest money into this. For me, in a state where they can fire you for no reason, it is job security. But it doesnt protect shitty employees or those who arent doing their job. With company buyouts, theres always changes in leadership. Nothing to see here. I hope the workers get better benefits and better work environment

I'm sure the CEO is happy to get out without having to deal with a union drive, even if he would've been amenable to it. As a business-owner, even if you're nominally pro-union (unlikely), it's still probably a headache. Anyway, unions are good. Also, it's illegal to fire employees for unionizing. Who was laughing about Batman Ninja? It's one of the only WS sets that's pretty much never sold for MSRP. Ok, maybe the very first week, but after that it was $80-90 and sells for ~$200 now.

    If the workers there were being treated well and paid fairly they wouldn't have even thought to create a union.
    This applies to every place that unionized, ever.
    Corporations only care about profit.
    Note that employees are not included in that last statement...

    I sold my Ebay stock at the peak. Was I supposed to hold it and loose? Ebay made a mistake and shoulda waited.
    Guess they had to much cash and that it was a good way to put it aside.

    Essentially yes that’s what unions are. But Unions also provide far better benefits, working conditions (normally, some unions are still corrupt.) and many other benefits. I work for UPS with Teamsters as my union. Unions are 100% necessary in todays work force with labor cuts and work conditions.

  • @KyleBaran90

    For "not caring", you did a pretty thorough 5 minute explanation of M&A and unions and how they're structured, which is probably the most valuable bit of this video

      As a union steward, I wouldn't say he explained much thoroughly or very correctly there. Which is not a surprise given it's not a thing he's experienced in, as he clearly says. So take his characterization of that aspect with a liberal amount of salt.

      @KyleBaran90 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Aeyamar Oh I know there's a lot more to it than that, but the quick gloss over seemed reasonable for people who don't have much experience with unions. It's more or less what my understand was prior. My comment was more focused on the M&A side of things

    I pay 5$ a month for my union. We get guaranteed cost of living raises. For example I work in shipping my company pays 23 to start at our location, or competitor pays 12.95 to start and they get .25 cent raises and only hire part time. So they give their employees 240 dollars more per year. We get a min. 1.25 for cost of living as well as a .50 yearly time with company raise. The other company, who I worked for as well is a revolving door of workers, many more packages get damaged or lost, and the overall offeciency of the company is going to shit.
    As for the making money, making money is fine if you're not trying to make so much money that your family if you have them doesn't have to work for generations. In order to make that kind of money you must be taking money from the working class families. Example 10 million at retirement isn't that much and isn't going to set your family for generations. If your kids are smart then you and your children will be set and your grandkids will have a nice setup. Now when you get into these people with 500 million plus, you only get that by being able to afford to legally cheat the tax system and not pay your fair share. The tax laws are set up to allow people at the top to skirt the line of legality where as working people can't afford to find those loopholes.
    It's crazy to me that people don't understand how company boards work. They are stepping stones for those people to make more personal money and they don't give a shot about the companies long term. They want to look good whole their there so they can move on to a higher paying company with bigger bonuses. Guaranteed the dude is ready to fucking party and enjoy his life instead of grinding away like a slave forever. To me its more respectable to just say wow I'm made and can quit and not keep trying to make more and more like a bezos or gates.
