I'm sure the engineers and support personnel back at CSF that worked on this project appreciate the genuine recognition of its performance and design. It's nice for both manufacturer and consumer alike when a product exceeds expectations.
“Guys pushing stock turbos with tunes are likely to be pushing the stock turbos outside of their efficiency range, hence they need good intercoolers to make the most out of their tune” . Mike Kojima still giving me priceless tuning knowledge even after 30 years! Thanks Mike. Oh and awesome work from the CSF guys, a couple degrees above ambient is just crazy.
Got educated, i need a new intercooler.
The CSF rep called the GR engine a 4cyl lol
Ultimately cyl count doesnt matter for intercoolers
@@L3GACYxiNsTiiNcTwrong, horsepower is determined by the air mass and fuel entering the engine, displacement or cyl count doesnt matter
Whoops
@@DrSkrungleSaying those things don't matter is disingenuous to the complication that are these engine systems.
@@DrSkrungle Hey know it all, you missed the guys point, he was just simply pointing out that the CSF guy got it wrong. The car is a 3 cylinder and it was just that and that alone. He was not splitting silly hairs and introducing the drivel that you did into the mix. Go fly a kite.
You are like the gasoline racing version of gale banks
Gale Banks knows gasoline too. He just knows there is more profit in trucks, a much bigger market.
Gale started with the old grand national, so he knows gas.
There is just so much money in the diesel market.
My buddy met him at the DMAX plant. He said he was super cool down to earth as expected. I told him he should of got him to autograph his chest.
you are right I work in texas there a 100 to 1 trucks to cars
something about an effective intercooler always peaks my interest, love the clamps too! CSF makes some of the best cooling products, hands down
I wish tube & fin got more respect!
Sick review always love MotoIQ reviews and videos!
That is an incredibly competitive price for the performance and quality. Amazing!
I think the idea of stepped intercoolers is something that could really catch on in multiple application's.
The comprehensive touches like those smartly designed clamps and larger inlet pipes with custom adapter hoses really differentiate excellent products like CSF from the rest.
I want to take that Mini in the background and swap a GR drive train and chassis under it lol. Great numbers from a ots IC!
Yesssssss if Moto-iq dosnt do it .....we need to spam it to Mighty Car Mods ....be a great brother to the B18B powered mini
@@thedaredevil1907 I’ve only got to do one older Mini and it was a F20c swap 🙄. Such a pita but totally worth it once done!! Client still runs around with it after 15+yrs. But definitely would rather see that swap for sure!
@@thedaredevil1907 It has a B18C in it, some other shop did a terrible job and we are fixing it.
As always appreciate the enthusiasm Mike.
Can you guys or have you guys released a blog/ article about the testing and data? It would be cool to read and compare with other brands for someone who’s shopping around for an intercooler currently
We'll be publishing all of this on our website in the next couple of weeks and I'm sure MotoIQ will also have an article on the site as well - stay tuned!
Awesome thank you
WOW! Those numbers are crazy!
that is insane performance!! god damn !!
The clamps looks exactly like the Mishomoto Sure Grip line. I do wish Mishomoto sold them in black.
The only downside these have vs the Norma Torro is that the worm band is cut instead of stamped, so they might not be as strong under high boost pressure.
Love those hose clamps.
Great engineering, and great marketing. Good luck with this product line! I don't have a Corolla but can't wait to see one on the track.
Shoot, this is wicked cool, I'd love to hear what other makes/models they have, or are planning to have, replacements for!
would love a step core designed intercooler for the EVO 7,8,9. I wonder if CSF makes evo. to their website i go!
I need one of those for a 92 3000gt vr4. Twin tdo4 makes alot of heat.
I had heard years ago that mat/flat black radiators and intercoolers radiated heat better than brushed/polished aluminum sides/cores
It is true
I didn't know that
So which is better in case of an intercooler? By logic I would go with radiating, to let the heat escape.
The black one.
Blacks stay wining
Can I get one for a 3.5 ecoboost in a ford f150?
Praise: I love that they had an open fit in mind and created a hybrid styled inter cooler that produces results
Concern/Question: It appears that the volume on the new inter cooler is larger than the previous one. Does that cause a slower response time in power delivery? What are the negatives to a higher volume intercooler?
Not perceptible. None, besides cost.
Hey CSF, considering if the design is that solid, why don't you take that design, make it a core, and make it bigger or smaller and sell it as a core.
Probably won't fit on the GR Yaris without modifications? Any chance of a product for the GR Yaris?
Yet another video to go into my "car stuff" saved folder as I plan out this Datsun 620 build I have sitting in the garage. That being said, I'm not super surprised that an intercooler with twice the surface area performs way better than stock? What am I missing here?
That front grill is massive no wonder a full size intercooler dropped the temps that much. I think the key is not just the intercooler but the fact there was enough surface area and extraction to push enough volume of air to significantly reduce temps. It doesn't matter how big the heat exchanger is if it doesn't have a fluid to exchange heat into.
I wonder if it will bolt straight in to a GR Yaris? Any idea?
Is this worth running with no tune? Currently have a circuit, all I’ve done is cat back and mid pipe. Will I see gains with no tune without having to worry about causing any damage/issue if it got a bump in power?
Hi Mike how are you? What was the pressure drop on this? Thanks
We didn't measure it but it is way lower than stock due to the much larger core area and the much greater amount of tubes
does CSF make IC for '18 WRX FA20?
All the other cars are turbo 4 cylinder hot hatch, but the Corolla hatchback or the Corolla cross, or the basic XSE Corolla or the 85 AE86 hatchback 4 cylinder, one new car Yes we know it's a 300hp 3 cylinder Turbo AWD 🤯
This may seem like an obvious/silly question, but becuase this shares the same engine as the GRY, but a very different body would this fit in a GRY?
will CSF offer a GR Yaris version of this intercooler? Thx
I run a PROALLOY i/c,on my GRY in UK.
Did this intercooler have any impact on coolant temperatures? I'm asking as this intercooler has a much larger front surface area and that would cover over a greater portion of the radiator.
Not on the dyno, but that was not as rigorous as the track.
Are y'all gonna make a FMIC for the VA WRX? I would really like a kit that had a smaller IC core that clears the stock crash bar and is sized for guys living with the limits of the stock connecting rods. It seems like everything on the market is designed for 500hp + and is overkill for most of us.
Maybe you should ask CSF not us.
Sold
What are the absolute necessary mods that will make the presence of an intercooler - oil cooler combo desirable without creating other problems? Will all the above fit a GR Yaris? Please, come back with the oil cooler. In fact, I won't mind a proper diff cooler, too.
If you do track days
Can't tell if he said "268 degrees" or "to under 68 degrees". How high are the air temps going in with stock intercooler and whats the delta with the csf cooler?
The charge temp was reduced 268 degrees or 111 more than the stock intercooler.
@@motoiq Is that 268 F or C?
F, if it was C the turbo and the whole car would be in trouble!
Make CSF IC for BMW E60 535d please
Newbie question here. From what I've gathered in the video would this be worth running on a stock car without a tune or anything? I'm getting a 24 circuit edition in 10 days and I don't plan on doing anything major soon but summer is coming soon and I don't plan on driving the car "easy" every day.
Well it got 18 more hp
I just wanna see someone go sub 4s from 0-60, thats ALL i need out of the gr rolla for it to be perfect
Call this an intercooler? Now THIS is an intercooler!
How does the efficiency of this intercooler affect coolant and A/C temperature? Since it's really efficient at extracting heat from the charged air, will that become a problem for the condenser and radiator that sits behind it?
That is why it's tube and fin, we talked about it in the video
@@motoiq must’ve missed it. Will have to rewatch!
Noob question 🤔 do i need to tune my gr innorder to use this?
No
you guys said its a tube and fin core, but it really looks like a bar and plate... the tube on the tube and fin is usually a lot thinner, which is what helps with flow through it and to the radiator. But this one has a tall, bar and plate size, tube... which kinda defeats the reason for tube and fin? I guess there's weight. is there an engineering explanation to this?
@CSF are there plans for an intercooler for the FL5?
The owner of CSF ought to know what his core is!
@@motoiq you might misunderstood my question. I'm not trying to say its a bar and plate, more asking about the design of this particular tube and fin...
Oh sorry, the looks of it fooled me too.
Does anyone know: Does the GR Corolla's turbo have sensors to tell the ecu how fast its spinning???
It does not
It doesnt.
@@johnnygoesfast9397 how do you plan to that?
Mike, any word on when this will be available for sale?
Any day now
Sales guy said April 2024
As of yesterday, we started taking pre-orders on the JR x CSF Intercooler kits. 👍
Placed my order a few days ago@@JacksonRacingOfficial
Please do a mini cooper s build with affordable quality parts that are reputable please,(aka vitro build)
I Evan emailed eagle if they could/had rods but nothing.
I could not justify the cost from other company same liter as a single cam big end couple tho different 3x the cost for a mini?🧐
What are the dimensions of this fmic? Asking for my 06 OBXT.
It's very vehicle specific don't recommend you try.
@@motoiq well ya think they'll make one for pre fa20 wrx & sti?
call them
@@motoiq I do believe I will.
I wonder if i can modify this into a Audi TT MK1
I wonder how a Plazmaman would compare to other intercoolers. They're supposed to be the best money can buy for intake manifolds and intercoolers.
It doesn't have much more frontal area than stock but with a thicker core so most likely not as good. This is the best performing intercooler we have ever tested by far for any car.
Mike wearing his seatbelt on the dyno lol, he knows they dont always go well
So the car wont beep
Will the larger volume leave the car more laggy?
no
13:00 lmao
Makes me wonder if yall have ever tested WTA intercoolers.
We only ever used them on our LSR car
@@motoiqWould you ever consider exploring them in another video?
No because the application is so limited. Mostly race car only.
@@motoiqThats unfortunate, but I appreciate the responses thus far. Thanks for taking the time and for posting the great videos!
Wait my question is how is this gr corolla engine operating so well stock at 200° inlet air temps in the first place?
it has an exhaust and an intake, we said so in the video
@@motoiq no I completely understand that I put a turbo kit on a Corolla 2zr FE engine and saw ambient temps w just a basic intercooler idk I just think they could have taken IATs a little more serious w a turbocharged engine...what do i know tho im just learning still
I also drove that car for ten hours straight and never saw above 20° over ambient temps but I guess bc of how close the exhaust manifold is to the entire setup and they had very strict space in mind
It looks like tube/fin stock not bar/plate.
Yes that's correct - the stock intercooler is also tube/fin
Stating numbers without proof means nothing. A larger intercooler reduces response, and blocking more of the radiator inlet reduces radiator efficiency. What heat duty cycle can the intercooler handle?
We dynoed it, that's proof! We took our power numbers after saturating the intercooler with about 12 back to back pulls. If you don't like it don't run it. We would and we build a lot of fast and winning cars.
❤️🔥
Thay dude keeps calling the components "geeked" out. Yet... he's the one who is geeked lmao
have you all tested another GR Corolla intercooler? I'd be interested in seeing the SXTH Element Intercooler tested.
It will not perform as well, chunky bar and plate with about the same frontal area as stock.
I have the SXTH intercooler on my GR Corolla it performs very well. Maybe not as well as this one but much better than stock.
Do you happen to have data on it?
@motoiq it's on sxth website
There is no temp drop data on their website
Add also dyno graphs and test data
We talked about the data in the video, the power was irrelevant since we didn't tune for it, we were only testing for temperature drop but it was 18 hp. With tuning it will be much more.
@@motoiq sure but data is always better than sales talk
The data is in the video.
@@motoiqok at what point?
I don't know somewhere I think toward the beginning, it dropped the CAT 268 degrees, 111 degrees better than stock and 2-5 degrees above ambient and gained 18 hp with no changes and no tune to take advantage of it.
Huh...here is an inter cooler not listed on their CSF website and NO GR Corolla section?
Jackson racing
Now taking pre-orders on the JR x CSF Intercooler kits on our website. 😃
@@JacksonRacingOfficial So....trying to market ether...got it
Btw It’s a 3cyl not a 4cyl 😂😂.. but is other CSF intercoolers any gudd like that or is it just this one
where is the actual IAT data run to run? Us data nerds would like to see it!
We talked about it in the video it dropped the CAT 268 degrees, 111 degrees better than stock and 2-5 degrees above ambient and gained 18 hp with no changes and no tune to take advantage of it.
I need an intercooler for my LS swapped c/10 with a torqstorm supercharger
Hi Mike.
Now that's how you sell car parts
I can guarantee you that it had a lot to do with what was in front of it and what was behind it....
Guess you haven't tried out PWR.
We have and in this particular application, this is the most efficient intercooler we have ever tested, reducing the CAT 268 degrees. The data says it all. PWR makes some of CSF's cores for BMW applications.
3:06 huh???
111 degrees is significantly cooler
Do scions
3:03
Dude doesnt even know what car hes talking about 😂
whoops
can I put this on my subaru lol
Yes - BUT, how much Horsepower did it make from the upgrade? O.O #MuyIMPORTANTE
Something like 18 more with no other mods. The intercooler will allow tuning to safely extract much more than that.
@@motoiq AWESOME!!! Thanks for responding... =]
3 cylinder not 4 lol
Is he smilling all the time or is that just me
My CSF radiator it tooo efficient, my damn engine never warms up
Look at your thermostat
Put the thermostat back in
4 cylinder lmao...
hahahaha
all this blabbing how much hp was gained on stock motor and stock tune? lol
18 whp which is sorta immaterial because this was a test of cooling capability. If we tuned around the intercooler the gains would be a lot more but it would not be an intercooler test anymore.
@@motoiq true. Lol. Thanks for the response. But yea, those cooling numbers are insane.
I find it hard to believe it cooled under ambient temp . Only if if was dipped into liquid nitrogen 😂
Because it did not cool under ambient temp. It cooled to 2-5 degrees above ambient. We said so in the video.
CSF should've just let Mike make this vid, leave the slimey sales guy out, not interested in all his corporate jargon and sales buzz words.
Claims claims claims.
Care not about lowering temps.
How about an example of specific real world “gains”!?
And comparison to a stock one, in real life conditions.
Lower the temperature, more oxygen you have in same area. You cannot gain any power if you don't tune your car. If you car is now overheating (IC temps too high, then engine cuts ignition timing and you loose power). So this IC have very high efficiency and It can help reduce those temps to not have ignition cut. Also you can put more boost obviously and have much more power compared to the stock IC. Key is efficiency to dissipate heat, not to "Gain" power.
Not claims, data, we said how much cooler it lowered the intake temp over stock if you were paying attention. A dyno with temperature-controlled speed-dependent air velocity, testing with the bumper on and hood closed is repeatable real-life testing.
Are you a bot or do you just not think critically?
Lower intake temps, means more density, means more fuel can be burned. Measuring intake temp is a real world gain. People are the internet are dumb as fuck.
@@Clobercow1 exactly...
Nothing more than a paid commercial. No data shown, no dyno, no thermal imaging, no results. Just shameless promotion. Do better.
uh we gave the data. pay attention.
