5:18 Quick note regarding the Magpul magazine... All Zastava's magazines (be it polymer or metal) followers are shaped, in such a way to enable a bolt hold open feature after last round is fired. I was able to purchase an M72 RPK with the barrel that has the fins cut into it. It's a beautiful weapon that is of outstanding quality. Your countrymen make some damn fine weapons.

Zastava M72 does have fins/ribs and the barrel itself is heavier in order for the shooter to actually be able to provide suppressive fire, before the gun barrel overheats. When first I saw the initial prototype of Zastava's Assault Rifle, the Zastava M64, I was blown away, as it looked more modern than an Israeli Galil, only this was in 1964 waaay before Galil LoL. But it was deemed too expensive and so we have the M70 and its derivatives. For what it's worth the latest iteration of Zastava's next gen Assault Rifle for the Serbian Army, is called Zastava M19 ( /watch?v=KCKtHXLwKgE ) and it's the most radical modernization departure from the original and since it's modular, it supports both 7,62x39 and 6,5x39 ammo with a barrel swap. So yeah, our engineers are always on the move, dynamic, trying to push the threshold on the original. Kind regards from Serbia.

Just purchased one from Atlantic firearms. 999.99 shipped. Also bought a few little goodies aswell to enhance it when it comes in. From what I hear, these AK's are the best AK's for the money and probably going to be one of the last great imported AK's we will get. Cannot wait to get it in my hands
@@johnburrows1179 Both are built well, they are very high quality. It really depends on you. The M70s with the wood are awesome, and there are many different versions of furniture you could get. Both do not take AKM pattern rifle/pistol accessories, so it is important to look for Yugo pattern accessories. Both have performed very well and accurately at the range. Holding up to abuse such as being thrown on the ground a few times or just sustained fire. Zero malfunctions ever in about 2000 rounds fired. I think I like my ZPAP92 Alpha (pistol version 10in barrel, drilled rear trunnion for easy brace addition, as well as top rail dust cover for easy optics) more because it is smaller and I have a side folding brace on it. Makes it easier to transport around etc. It is also so snug to shoot. But so is the M70. Honestly man either is bad ass and you cannot go wrong. I just ordered a new wood set for my M70 rifle, excited to work on it again. I am not sure if my next AK is going to be another rifle or pistol. Cannot go wrong with either. If you do purchase one, give the rifle a good inspection to ensure that it is properly built, just like you would any other firearm.

Just didn't feel real, I wanted a real deal AK and that's what we have here. Obviously commercial production, but the real deal. Next AK will probably be a WBP rifle or pistol, want to try out the AKM platform and try to get crazy on one with modern parts.
Straight Shooter- awesome to hear. I have literally watched 1000s of TH-cam videos in the 3 months before I made up my mind to go for this one. I was looking at Arsenal, WASR-10, Palmetto State Armory and a few others but I also didn't want to spend $2-3k on a rifle. I am really pleased with the quality.
I currently am making layaway payments on this same model, I believe, only it has the dark brown furniture. Cost a little over $1,000 but it will be a very good rifle for me to enjoy (hopefully for many years!) Beautiful Zastava you have there! 😍👍
That's a beautiful M70. I've been considering picking one of these up for my collection. My first AKM was an NPAP that I still own. I feel that Zastava makes one of the best AKs for the price that you can get. I recommend that you pick up some of the 4th generation Magpul mags with the orange tab. The metal inserts make a huge difference. If you have about $60 to spare on a magazine then I really recommend the Bulgarian Arsenal waffle mags. They have a great lock up and probably the best feeding I've seen in an AK mag

Got mine today! I love it can’t wait to get it out. My only other ak is a gf3 akp and I already tell I’m gonna like it way better. My only complaint is the engraved read the owners Manuel on the receiver.

The manual says meters but the ranges I have been to all have distances set up in yard(s) intervals so that is why I referenced. I don't do metrics LOL
I just picked up my light maple z-pap from my ffl and its nice rifle, just wish zastava in america would put some kind of finish on the wood before selling.
@dgunearthed7859 There is no bayonet lug on this one. As far as the rear stock goes, once you remove the steal butt plate from the rear of the stock, there is a large diameter hole through the buttstock where a large bolt goes that keeps the stock from pulling out from the receiver. There is no secret compartment, although you could keep some batteries inside the hole. The rear stock butt plate is attached with a size 15 torx screw though so unless you have tools you won't be getting in there. Hope that answers what you are asking. Thanks!
I noticed that the light maple smells vaguely like maple syrup, whereas the dark maple has a much stonger syrup smell. Plus you can get waffle mags for it... hmm.
I have no regrets getting mine a few years ago. 3k rounds and she runs great. For the $$ don't think you can get anything better. Tons of aftermarket accessories for Yugo AKs on the market for upgrades or changes. Good luck with your decision, and thanks for the feedback-Doug.
I see everyone talking about Serbian red and walnut stocks. Where the heck is everyone finding these? Zero firearm store near me have any Zastavas except Sportsman’s warehouse which has a single option that’s all polymer with a triangle stock that I am not fond of. I should mention I am located within the peoples republic of Ch… I mean California. Do you purchase them online and have them sent to a local ffl near you?

That's all I could find was light Maple....lol I wanted a dark Maple or any dark one but the light maple grew on me especially after I put some boiled linseed oil on it.

@@404tactical7 yeah there nice and very reliable..i just got thru refinishing my maple stock with iodine..it was very simple and turned out with a dark red/orange hue..topped off with 7 coats of true oil..then 0000 steel wool too knock off the shine a bit..it really made the stripes pop..just in case you ever get tired of blonde...cheers
What's a trombone? These export models have chromed barrels, M70 in Serbia don't. That's more important than cheap night sights. We Americans, we have infra red optical night sights.

It's very inexpensive to finish. I like that the option is left to finish the wood to your personal liking. Just my opinion.
Apply a few coats of boiled linseed oil. It’s cheap.

Got mine from Amazon. Advertise as "Original Russian Unissued AK Sling". Looks top shelf. Its green and has hooks on both ends

What did you do about the loud ak sling on the butstock
I added an olive-green sling. Now I can drop rifle off to the side of the shoulder and draw a pistol.

@@404tactical7 yeah there nice and very reliable..i just got thru refinishing my maple stock with iodine..it was very simple and turned out with a dark red/orange hue..topped off with 7 coats of true oil..then 0000 steel wool too knock off the shine a bit..it really made the stripes pop..just in case you ever get tired of blonde...cheers

That rifle is shit made for export, the M-70 used in Serbia is the real thing, this one doesn't have a trombone or night sight, all in all, shit.

What's a trombone? These export models have chromed barrels, M70 in Serbia don't. That's more important than cheap night sights. We Americans, we have infra red optical night sights.
