Interestingly, the only Mesozoic critters that can really fit the mold of the "giant lizard" stereotype are mosasaurs, because they're ACTUAL lizards (although they likely didn't act like lizards)!

I have no idea why this qualifies as an SCP, sure its never never been seen before but scientists discover new species all the time. Pterodactyls aren't dinosaurs they're pterosaurs which were reptiles, unlike dinosaurs which were more closely related to birds; modern birds are technically considered dinosaurs.
Pterosaurs are nonetheless more closely related to birds and other dinosaurs than to crocodiles or any other living reptile, though they are not bird ancestors. Pterosaurs are also colloquially referred to as pterodactyls, particularly in fiction and journalism. However, technically, pterodactyl only refers to members of the genus Pterodactylus, and more broadly to members of the suborder Pterodactyloidea of the pterosaurs.
