It's all on you. You are operating the truck, period. It is your responsibility to make sure you are operating the ELD correctly just as having the truck and trailer registration and insurance with you. People make mistakes but you'll learn as you go. Make sure if you have fuel receipts, food receipts or hotel reciepts to use those to prove you were not operating 14 hours straight. Also print out a copy if your call log from your phone to prove you called your ELD company to report problems. That may help get the charges dismissed at court. Good luck!

Not having a license plate on your trailer and having a lift out is just asking to get pulled over. Also you not knowing the hours of service (Hos) is not good. This is basic information anyone that's driving a truck over the road need to know.

Hey man, I understand both side of the story.
However, even if that DOT inspector would like to give you a PASS, the fact that you are recording this interaction/inspection, means that video evidence EXIST that he gave you a PASS when he shouldn't. Also, the more he looked, the more violation keeps surfacing.
So he couldn't give you a PASS even if he wanted.

As a fellow truck driver IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE YOUR LOGGS UPDATE EACH DAY....ITS NOT A JOKE BECAUSE IF GOD FORBIDDING U WERE INVOLED IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND SOMEBODY DIE U WILL GO TO JAIL FOR LIFE OR LONG TIME JUST BECAUSE YOUR ELD LOGG WAS WRONG... AND ALSO IF U CAN'T HANDLE DRIVING THE 14HOURS LIKE U SAID BELIEVE ME I KNOW PEOPLE DROVE 36HOURS AND 24HOURS GUILTY AS CHARGE DO THAT.... AND THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE IS U MOST,MOST HAVE PAPER LOG JUST INCASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG WITH UR ELECTRONIC LOG LIKE IN THIS VIDEO U NEED TO CONTINUE ON PAPER LOG TILL YOUR ELD ITS FIXED AND BACK ONLINE....AND IF U DON'T CARRY PAPER LOG WITH U THATS A VIOLATION ALSO....I KNOW WE DON'T LIKE TO SEE THEM DOT FLASHING LIGHTS BEHINDS US BUT BELIVE IT OR NOT THEY SAVE UR LIFE AND OTHER PEOPLES LIFE ON THE ROAD BECAUSE ALOT OF TRUCK DRIVER DO NOT INSPECT THERE EQUIPMENT PERIOD TO DEPARTURE.... AND BY THE WAY THE LIGHTS OFF ROAD U HAVE PLEASE DON'T USE THEM SPECIAL AT NIGHT U GUYS THINK ITS COOL BUT ITS NOT WHEN I COME HEAD ON AT NIGHT WIT SOMEBODY HAS THOSE LIGHT IT GET US BLIND THEY ARE NOT COOL.... AND IF U DON'T WANT TO GET PULLED OVER OUT OF NOWHERE ALWAYS HAVE YOUR LIGHT WORKING BECAUSE THATS WHAT THEY BE LOOKING FOR JUST TO GIVE THEM A REASON TO PULL U OVER....BE SMART MY BROTHER BECAUSE IF U KEEP GETTING THEM VIOLATIONS YOUR CARGO INSURANCE WILL GO UP THE ROOF.....SO GOODLUCK AND IF U DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING ASK A FELLOW TRUCK DRIVER IN A TRUCK STOP AND THEY WILL HELP U....I KNOW I HELPED SO MANY FELLOWS.....GOODLUCK TO YOU

In the past days when we ran paper logs, guy had 2 log books. One to give the DOT when they asked for it and one to keep up with your pay. Yes drivers will drive for 24 hours and taking all kind of piles to stay up. Just a little FYI, the DOT stay on Hotshots because they are easy targets. Know all the laws because they will keep looking at Hotshots. It is all on you to know.

Also never be on the road without a paper log book. Where I am if we do not carry a paper log they will put us out of service. I have known people in the past before ELD`s to drive 24 hours straight. This is only sporadic Hot Shotting, maybe go out every 6 weeks or so for 2-5 days at a time to the customers that are buying them. Truly what I've been wanting, fits my lifestyle. So I've been cramming in many hours on TH-cam, ELD APP, HOS, Weigh Stations, All Relative Paperwork, Strap Securement, IFTA, you name it, I've studied it. As a trucker , it’s your responsibility to know your craft. That officer is nothing but respectful, you showed attitude. Your logs are off. But if you can grow from this, your gonna be great. Enjoy your videos. I’ve been trucking years. You have to own your mistakes.

The officer was being nice. He could have taken possession of your license and forced your renting a motel room for a 34 hour reset based only on what your log stated. Only then would you be able to go to the police department to have your license returned. Log book & hours of service laws are mandatory. This was an expensive lesson that you will not readily forget.

Hard lesson to learn. But hopefully it was learned. I ran paper logs from the start of my trucking career up till they made the elogs mandatory. It was drilled into my head to stay on top of it all from the get go. I’ve seen veteran drivers who slacked and paid the price big time with big fines for bad logs. Only been driving for 10 years but zero violations.
And the driving over the 14 is a common thing. Had a guy at an old job that got caught driving for 28 hours straight. So the officer wasn’t blowing smoke.

My friend, the officer was fair and he was trying to inform, calmly. He was only doing his job. The violations are easy preventable ones. It is the responsibility of the driver to make sure the equipment is working properly. In LE the rule is, if you didn’t report it or document it, then it never happened. Sorry brother, shake it off it’s just a lesson learned. Be safe out there.

I watched your video bro. Yea it’s crazy that you got 7 violations. Hopefully he had let you slide for the light bar. I can see why you were getting frustrated but at the same time he’s just doing his job as well. Them other officers set you up for failure because if they would’ve told you all these things, even though we are required to know as a driver, that would’ve been less of an headache. Sometimes those favors can eventually catch up to us. Hope things get better brother be safe out there on them on the roads.

And hotshots want to know why dot picks on you. You are the problem why they stop you guys so much why insurance is so high. You don't know the rules to do the job you have a truck and say I can do this eveybody else is. The officer did nothing wrong just his job and was very good at his job. You just like most other hotshots don't know the rules and only you are responsible for everything in your rig. Daddy will not always be there be a man. I know you don't want to hear this but truth hurts and needs to be said. Second time that light bar has got you pulled over can't fix stupid.
Enjoy this year cause nobody will insure you next year.

Man, I have a couple buddies who use to drive for a living and they both recently changed professions. This being one of the reasons, the red tape hassle has gotten out of hand and has made the profession very unappealing to get into. We are lucky there are still people who drive or this country would be screwed as we need truckers to keep this country going. Props to you.
