Amazing camera the a7iii. Shooting my family was never easier thanks to eye autofocus and face registration/focusing. Just found out a7iii is an amazing video cam as well! Autofocus based on faces!! I don’t have to do anything just frame the object!! Just amazing. A masterpiece of hardware.

Your recommendations are spot on. My first Sony was the a6500. A year later I got the a7iii. Love them both. I picked up the a7ii cause it was on sale & because I wanted a back up full frame. Though the video "features" are a disappointment, I do enjoy the images it produces.
Hi Michael, question for you since you have both. Im looking to trade in my Nikon D7100 to go fullframe mirrorless. Not looking to stay with Nikon since I like the direction Sony is going as a company. For a first time full frame user would you recommend going with the A7iii for $2k or A7ii for $900. Obviously the A7iii is newer and has some good upgrades, but if I dont do video do you think im missing out on too much? I like low light but Im wondering if the A7ii will be enough. Im looking at buying better glass with the money Im saving, for example im looking at the 24-105 f4 and later investing in a Sigma or Zeiss prime. Thanks

Bought the Sony A7II camera a few months ago and found it a really strong choice for portrait/landscape photography but after attempting to use its video features I am now looking to upgrade to either the A7III or A7RII

Your video is still very useful after these years. I would have gone with the A7RII instead of the A7II when actually I bought the latter just yesterday because the latter is lighter and my hand is not comfortable to hold heavy camera.
Hey Jason, @ 2:40 you are actually wrong with that point. The first ever full frame camera to have ibis was the Sony A900 DSLR back in 2007. However it wasn't as advanced as it is now and wasn't 5-axis like it is now. Since then Sony have slowly updated their ibis in models such as the A99 SLT and the A7ii, etc.
no shade to the 1cameraguy, but what got me to watch your video to the end compared to his was how digestible your phrasing was, how easy the points of difference were to understand, and most importantly, having the current camera up the right hand corner with the price! thanks for the video
This video was very helpful. I am a hybrid shooter myself and own the Canon 77D (which is in repair right now, because the on/off switch is broken). I really want the A7 III. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have a flexible screen like the Canon 77D.

I wanted High Resolution on a Budget so i went a very different route. Bought myself a used A7r (Mark I) and bought a 35mm 1.4 and a 85mm 1.8 Lens to shoot with. For Portrait and People Photography i´m quite satisfied and can now safe mony for the upgrade to an A7r Mark II. The Lenses will carry on. 36 Megapixel is plenty enough for me.
June 20201, I just picked up a new a7rii as a backup camera to my a7iii and also to use with my Sony 200-600mm G lens for shooting wildlife. They are going for a little over $1,000!

I just got a A7R III for a week now and for 2200$ brand new(I got a great deal) is a great camera. The IQ I get from it with my Tamrons 28-75 and 70-180 is AWSOME ! I used Nikon for over 10 years and my last true camera was a D810. So compared to that the RIII has better IQ, is a littler better at high iso, I like the touch screen, the IBIS , the AF (especially eye af) But the camera has some bad things too, like : 1. the evf could be better , 2. the buttons from the rear right side should be bigger, including the joystick, i really, really wanted my OK button to work like in the Nikons cameras, 3.the pasm dial should be moved in the left side and insted of it should be a little screen or at least a shutter dial, 4. the grip is to little ! my pinky doesn't fit and also the space between the grip and lens is too small, my hand barely fits and I have only average hands , 5. the lens detach button should be moved on the other side ! Now the placement is just stupid. And near the grip it should have aditional two fn buttons like the Nikons (I always programmed those on my cameras) 6. why the buttons don't have ilumination at this kind of price ? So in conclusion I like the camera and what images I can get from it, but the process is not that easy as on Nikon cameras (Sony could still learn a thing or two from them) , I needed 3 or 4 days just to learn the camera, customize all the buttons that I needed just to make it usable. Peace ;)
BH photo edu discount doesn’t stack (at least not for me) but you get very comparable Black Friday prices year round. For example, at the time the a7Riii was released (Dec 2017) at edu pricing it was only $2800, Sony FE 85mm $500, FE 28mm $380 & Zeiss 55mm for $850. Pricing has changed since, but definitely recommend to sign up if you’re a student!

I recently picked up the A7ii on eBay and I absolutely love it. It’s my first camera and love learning all the basics on it. Would you think it’ll be a good idea to sell it and get the a7iii as a beginner or stick to what I have and continue to work on the basics?
Keep it unless you really want 4k video or better autofocus. Having less advanced features or fewer features will help you focus on fundamentals. It's like playing an instrument, some people like to solve problems with equipment but technique is what it's all about.
As a casual and not intense in any direction, photographer, I still LOVE my A7 ii for more than one reason (Besides price) and one reason that you didn't clearly mention here. Its WEAK batteries!!! Yes, you heard me right and no mistake. Though the NP-FW50 s last very short (Cause of general frustration), they are extremely cheap from good thrid party manufactures and plenty to find out there. Then and most importantly, they have the common usability with numerous Sony's still and video cameras including all my 6000 series APC-s that are always with me. So no problem with variation in battery and charger need. A huge advantage IMHO. Now add a 2 battery power grip to any cam body you own and the problem of frequent battery change is solved, with the additional benefit of a much better grip. But then thanks for your great clip that though made 2 years back, still very useful.
Do you have any immediate recommendations if you’re coming from the a6500? Or wait off a bit? I’m considering upgrading my a6500 to the A7R III for better portrait photography :O but that A7 III lower price tho...

@Jason Vong, I was planning to buy a camera to my personal use. Mainly portraits/travel photography. Will a7ii be good enough for a casual Photography in 2019? I don't plan on shooting any videos with the camera.
A9 all day. That X factor, much more fun than anything else, and I own the R3. It’s simply so fun to use. The video is great, however I don’t use pp, too much processing work.

Thanks man... I have ALL Sony products now. Upgrading in 2019 and I am sold on the A7SIII. Should work well with DJI Ronin's and S Series Gimbals.

Use Neutral for the Creative Style to simulate Slog and Vivid for the Canon like colours for the A9.

Wilbur Yuen same here! Just got one yesterday and got the FE 1.8 50mm
5K budget. Would you get a A73 A7R2 or a A7R3 ? I plan on getting lenses from sigma ranging from 24mm to at least 200mm.

I was planning to buy a camera to my personal use. Mainly portraits/travel photography. Will a7ii be good enough for a casual Photography in 2019? I don't plan on shooting any videos with the camera.
A9 all day. That X factor, much more fun than anything else, and I own the R3. It’s simply so fun to use. The video is great, however I don’t use pp, too much processing work.
I have a sony a7sii, had it for about two years now, what would you suggest for an upgrade?
Hold off and see what's coming out this year. If you absolutely need a camera now, a7III
