Prey 2 cancelled 2014. Prey 2 cancelled in 2024. Prey 2 to be cancelled in 2034
I'm just annoyed he referred to Arkane's _Prey_ as a reboot when the only thing it had in common with the earlier game was squatting on the name.
Hmm... I'm sensing a pattern here.
After a third game simply titled "Prey" comes out, of course.
Prey 2, Prey 2: 2, and Prey 2: 2 - II
@@snakebelmont There'd probably be a remake or a remaster or another reboot of Prey before we get Prey 2. (If it can find a new studio to helm it of course.)
But might like Half-Life, Portal and Left 4 Dead which seems to be allergic to the number 3. Prey is a franchise allergic to the number 2. 😹
Microsoft shuttering Tango as they were pitching Hi Fi Rush 2 is something I will never forgive them for
A crime punishable by Xbox death? Tempted to say the same for the execs but that's a bit too far. Homeless perhaps in that case.
Wanna know something even sadder, like a week after closing tango, a Microsoft exec or someone said Microsoft needs more Japanese devs....
@@InsomniaaronIt would be nice if Microsoft's earnings reports come out at the end of the financial year and you just see a steady drop from May onwards, lol. Maybe then they'll reconsider saying they need more games like the one they just shut down the studio behind.
God damn developers gotta start learning to say NO to microsoft, ubisoft, activision, bethesda…
You’d think they’d figure out by now that they’re only getting purchased so they can get their hands on their IPs. Why, I have no idea since they mostly just let them rot.
It's Microsoft. Didn't suprised us
The fact we now have two Prey 2s that will never see the light of day is frankly hilarious, in a morbid "time is a flat circle" kind of way.
Too soon bro, too soon.😂😂😂
Prey 2 (2) was never even leaked as in development, let alone announced.
Honestly.. I'm also disappointed there's next to a 0% chance of another Evil Within now too. Really enjoyed both of the first two.. But we can't have nice things
Still waiting on the original feel to True Detective...
3 seasons now that lacked the cosmic/eldritch horror that was in the first one...
Honestly, as someone who loved the original Prey, I was pretty sad that we never got its sequel. I didn't really care for the new Prey, but it is still kind of disappointing that apparently the name is cursed and those who were fans of that newer version now share in that pain.
Can't wait for another studio to do another "not connected at all, but still shares the same name" reboot that gets another new fanbase, only for it to never get a sequel either.
Alice: Asylum never even got considered for development but not getting that is a shame. especially considering it ended up leading to the creator not only giving up on trying to continue the series, but quitting the games industry entirely.
This I’m legit so disappointed we may never get another
Worth pointing out that American McGee & his studio worked on their design plans for years on their own budget before even trying to get the approval is just heart breaking.
man that was hard to hear about. I love the first game, second was solid, and just wanted to play more
Microsoft using their unlimited money to buy all the promising studios, then scrap them based on a single underperforming title is starting to become a pattern, and it doesn't look great for gaming.
Supposedly the Life By You devs weren't actually that far off from a player ready early access version but the project was canceled for the usual shareholder reasons
Just want someone to be worthy competition to EA cause the sims franchise has definitely been on a downwards spiral for a while
Probably for the best. The problems they currently have with city skylines is actually pretty terrible, worse than simcity😅 there's still stuff the failed sim city game does better than skylines and that should be concerning 😂
@@L-92761 Luckily there are still some other life sim games in active development. They all scratch a slightly different itch and LBY seems to be the only one that really catered to Sims 3 fans specifically but there's at least still some anti-EA hope to go around.
Similarities about the gaming industry & a criminal syndicate.
-All the money goes to the high ranking officials.
-Exhaust employees until they're useless.
-After an operation will get rid of the underlings.
-Uses loopholes to get around laws.
Bruh that's just capitalism.
If you work at a different kind office do they fire you after you did what they told you to do? Pretty sure other offices just transfer people to other projects and not fire the whole production floor.
@@hill2hell Its called Downsizing.
Downsizing is pretty different from getting fired. When downsizing get paid their severance fee or sue if it's not enough to what they should get.
Laid off or fired employees don't get paid and pretty sure they can't sue unless they got wrongfully terminated.
@@hill2hell Where have you been these past two years? Lots of non-gaming big companies laying off half their workforce hit the news. Gotta keep the profit line going up, if sales are not doing it, cutting costs through laying off workers is the next step.
Imagine living in a world where HiFi Rush 2 is canned, but Redfall gets released.
You do know that they're from completely different studies, right?
@@deannelson7027Both of them owned & closed by Microsoft. Your point?
@@theREALfearsKLOWNsTheir point is that those two things have nothing to do with each other. OP didn't necessarily mean they did, but the reply still stands.
@@Blue-EyesWhitePrivilege Again, considering Microsoft owned & closed both studios - and the release & canceling of both games were direct results of the timing of this event - it's wild to think they have nothing to do with each other.
Not sure which is sadder. The promising games we'll never get to play, or the AAA games that will come out this year that will make us say, "THIS? THIS IS WHERE YOU PUT YOUR TIME AND MONEY, INSTEAD?!"
And 90% of them will have many microtransactions that more than make up for the actual loss of copies sold, thus being considered a success by the people making decisions. People who throw money at microtransactions are actively making the gaming space worse for the rest of us.
Note that the 200 million copies sold figure attached to the Sims includes any DLC expansion as a copy. So by that logic, you bought 3 copies of Witcher 3, two copies of Elden Ring, five copies of Borderlands 2, etc.
The ACTUAL number of Sims base games sold total is around 40~50 million.
Numbers do lie.
Kind of like how either the DS or the PS2 have the most console sales of all time, but which one it is depends on whether or not you count the different iterations of DS, including the DSi (Ds vs DS Lite is one thing, since it's no different than the PS2 vs the PS2 slim, but the DSi is a weird one that's harder to decide how it fits in.)
There is something to be said about how THOROUGHLY the Sims marketing strategy is focused on DLC, admittedly - and that might be "that is bad, why are you doing that, oh wait you are Electronic Arts, okay I get it, still bad though", but it does mean you do have to kind of nod at the DLC. Maybe "Forty to fifty million sold, including thirty million large expansions and around seventy million smaller 'stuff packs'" would be worth the saying. I'm pulling the numbers out of my hat here.
Agreed. As someone who’s bought almost every version of Skyrim, I fully understand how game devs use their stats and sales numbers to lie to consumers. When it comes to actual “unique buyers” of most games I’d bet the true sales number is maybe as low as half of what they say. Tons of people bought the base game of Sims, Skyrim, Witcher, etc, but I’d be willing to bet most players aren’t buying season passes or DLCs, so they wait to buy the cheaper bundles/GotY/Complete editions of the game.
It’s even worse for app devs because they go by “total downloads” NOT actual sales. When tons of people have owned several models of phones and multiple devices by now, and they’re redownloading the app to their multiple, the unique sales numbers for an app might be as low as 20% of what they claim - especially for games like Minecraft! I’ve bought 3 versions of that myself for the Xbox 360, PS4 and Switch.
Just a note that Arkane Austin and Lyon developed Dishonored 1 together, with Austin making the Daud DLC on their own, while Lyon started production on Dishonored 2. Lyon then made Death of the Outsider while Austin worked on Prey.
Zenimax did them so dirty, insisting they make Redfall a live service game that no-one actually wanted 😢
Like buying BioWare and making them make Dest... Anthem. Yeah, that's not... really what Bioware does, EA.
@@patrickphelan279 Ironically, Anthem appears to have been Bioware's idea... which nobody could seem to figure out how to actually make.
@@jackharkness5454 I think I had heard that, but my brain refuses to retain that information, because it refuses to recognise a situation where one can, but does not, blame EA.
It gets even weirder when publishers clinging on to their trophy-IPs later decide that they actually want a sequal *now*, give it to some completely different studio to work and then wonder why it flopped in reviews. Shouldn't be too hard to find enough examples for a 7-video... :/
No one tell Jane that Spiders Man is both a real thing in comics and also one of creepiest concepts in marvel history.
Aw I love spiders man!
I mean the X-men has some pretty messed up stuff, but a spider man made of thousands of tiny spiders the consumes and replaces everything is definitely a high on the creepy concept list...
@whisperinwind87 Yeah, that's why I said "one of" lol. Marvels got some pretty horrifying stuff under their belt. Especially if we get into like the cancer universe or one of the marvel zombies runs.
@@Maniacal.Menagerie The "cancer universe" ?
@shadowcat1606 Yeah, it's a lot to explain in a comment thread, but if you are curious, look up Earth 10011. I'll warn you in advance, though, that storyline is bleak.
Now the opposite: Top 7 Terrible Games You'll Never Get To Play
I mean, spiderman the great web was already on this list
Wouldn't the true opposite be "Top 7 Terrible Games You Can Play"
@@toongrowner1nice one
@@imperatoriacustodum46677 Terrible Games You Wish You Couldn’t Play
It should be called "Top 7 Terrible Games You'll Never Haver To Play" then
Not getting Prey 2 is such a shame. 1st Prey and Moon-Crash were criminally underrated.
Bully 2 is another one that’s getting more and more unlikely to actually hit stores (physical or digital) anytime soon due to GTA 6 and the original being 18 years old as of right now
Yeah, the original is now old enough to play GTA5. So it's going to take Rockstar's approach and just spend all its time focusing on GTA5.
Spider-Mans is the most grammatically-correct phrasing, but Spiders-Man is a Spider-Man made of spiders who think they're Peter Parker.
Spider-Men, surely?
People really underestimate how weird the Spiderverse is.
Spiders-Mens

A group of spider people has a number of applicable names: a Thwipping, a menace, a responsibility, a quip/sarcasm.

No prey 2, no dishonored 3, rip arkane 😭
Dishonored games are developed by Arkane Lyon which still exists, not by Arkane Austin.
@@floofyhoots8129 I made the same mistake. Which one did Deathloop? I liked Deathloop a lot. ...Lyon! Hurrah.
This is how I found out Life By You was cancelled 😭
Same 😢😢
This is how I found out it existed!
Just got Paralives to cling onto now!
Cancellation is preferable to the new Paradox method of release and abandon.

7:13 Funnily enough, Jane, Spiders-Man is an alternate universe version of Spiderman and is actually a hive-minded swarm of thousands of tiny spiders that killed and ate no powers Peter Parker but somehow absorbed his consciousness in the process. Wracked with the guilt of killing Peter they became Spiders-Man to help people.
huh... so a bit like Blacklight becoming Mercer. (Just with a lot less 'holy crap this guy was EVIL!' and eating people.) Neat.

*Fans:* Yay! We'll see beloved IPs come back!
_~Microsoft goes through "cost cutting measures"~_
If Microsoft buys a studio that basically means the death of that studio's IPs. Even when they bought RARE all those years ago they didn't do anything with these IPs. Microsoft can't even keep it's own IPs alive (if it isn't Halo), let alone bought ones.
We can't have anything good anymore, not from Hollywood, nor from AAA companies. Just give up on them.
so all of this is due to Saints Row..knew it
I just wish game dev companies would stop selling themselves to production companies.
I wish game dev companies included a clause in their sale contract that if the studio is shut down it can just walk away with it's staff and all the IPs it had. Now it seems multibillion publishers are just shopping around for IPs to put on wall like some weird collectors...
@@Lanka0Kera The whole point, as far as publishers are concerned, of acquiring a dev are to gain the IPs, not the devs themselves. It's been that way since the 1990s.
"beware spoilers on the possibility of the following games existing"
Disco Elysium 2 😢
Oof - this whole story was horrifying. There really is no justice.
In fairness I’d rather it be dead than a soulless shell of its former self.
Silent Hills. I still can't believe Konami didn't go thougg with it considering the impact of P.T
Six and seven hit bloody hard. Evil Within 2 was superb, and closing down an award winning, suddenly beloved studio off the back of Hi Fi Rush is a real 4D chess move from Microsoft that's sure to win them many more fans.
It's a gambit that wouldn't have looked out of place during the darkest of their Xbox One days.
Microsoft was the real villain all along.
Hi, this comment is word-for-word stolen by a bot. Original post was made by @Pandalf_Darwin an hour prior.
It makes me so sad to see Tango get shut down. Hi-Fi Rush is one of the best games I've played and it absolutely deserves a sequel. You get a robot cat in it, for crying out loud!
Killing Prey games (original 2 and reboot 2 would have been awesome) was just another shot into the heart. Ubisoft canceling their games for xdefiant also irked me.
I love this video as a quiet, but strong protest against all the layoffs
The Prey 2 and Hi-Fi Rush 2 ones hurt. Corporate consolidation is the death of industry
Yet you can easily get your hands on 'Ride to Hell: Retribution'...
You will however never play a version that works.
What was that line "A delayed game may eventually be good-"?
No, Capcom has just seen over 10 years of growth. Many companies can't claim such a winning streak.
Hi Fi Rush was awesome. It's tragic that we won't get more of it. I guess it wasn't buggy enough for Bethesda to not consider it brand damaging. Can't have players expecting functional games, where said players don't have to finish development themselves with mod, now can we?
Bethesda softworks is different to Bethesda game studios. The latter is known for buggy open source games that reach mod heaven and the former is yhe umbrella company for Bethesda game studios, Tango gameworks, ID software and probably many more. The dark age might be axed as well.
@@crazyjack5646 Still using Bethesda as the namesake so it carries the stench, as far as reputation. They chose that.
Prey was amazing, and it absolutely deserves to have its sequel realized in earnest by its original dev team
It's a shame that Microsoft shut down the studio that made the Evil Within series, I would have liked to see a third game. The first two were pretty good survival horror games.
I thought they hinted at the end of the 2nd game you might find Joseph or maybe even play him. We will never know😢
the Great Web would've been AMAZING, at least for Ben Reilly fans, as he's been subjected to the roles of Jackal 2 and Chasm in the comics which also character assassinated him twice,
The endgame is just 12 variants of Paul
The worst part of the Tango closure is that it fully recontextualizes the "Shadowdrop Darling" story behind Hi Fi Rush into Microsoft send the game out to die so they have an excuse to shutter the studio when it flopped
Only it didn't fail so now Microsoft just looks like even more of an asshole for shuttering Tango.
...well, this is how I learn that _Life by You_ has been cancelled, apparently.
Putting all my hopes into Paralives now.
@@thundercookie3214 Yep - I actually often mistook both of those games for each other, but...well, that's no longer going to be an issue, now, haha.
Damnit, why did you have to remind me that Spiders-Man exists?
It feels like so many entertainment companies are making essentially complete projects and then cancelling them before release. Movies, tv shows, games. Such a shitty new trend
It's a crime that P.T. Silent Hill got cancelled too😢
Still today after more than 7 years since i last played and I still have nightmares about it
I liked the original Prey, the one from 2006. (It was doing portals before Portal did portals.) I liked what the second one was doing, it looked like Mirrors Edge crossed with Mass Effect: play a bounty hunter in a cyberpunk alien city. I'm not aware of another game doing anything like that. It could be set in a handful of existing sci-fi universes, too.
TITANFALL 3 sadly.... we'll never get it ....
To be fair , they never even fixed the issues with Titanfall 2 . Did you know that if you use Windows 10 with onedrive, TF2 doesnt save your game?
Shows that this wasnt the focus to the big wigs since the start
That cancelled Prey sequel where you're a space cowboy bounty hunter is one of the biggest missed opportunities in gaming, that trailer was so cool it lives in my soul
I really wish we had a Mandalorian game but it got cancelled unfortunately
The show DID feel very sidequesty. Excellent though.
Not a Legends game though, and since the show started jumping the shark because of The Book of Boba Fett and Season 3...
this is not the way 😢
Its a shame about that Sims-like game. Would've been interesting to have a more realistic take on the genre. But I'm still good with The Sims we have.
Btw; there's nothing wrong with removing the steps to the pool while Sims are in it. It's called experimenting plus they've really just gotta work on their upper strength to climb out the pool without steps or a ladder.
Yeah it was a real shame, a realistic take on the genre would've at least appealed to the realistic simmers, as the Sims series was always meant to be cartoony seeing as the Sims franchise was designed to be satirical since the 1st game.
So Arkham Knights but Spider-man. I also saw Silk in the promo, so there would have been hope for additional characters in DLC. Not that we ever will get it.
I will still never forgive Blizzard for canceling StarCraft: GHOST...
Oh man, that's an oldie.
I will forever mourn the loss of Spider-Man: The Great Web
If I remember correctly, there was a quite intriguing but ultimately failed crowdfunding campaign by a team spun out from former BioShock devs called "The Black Hand' or the "Dark Glove" or some such. Seemed like an interesting action adventure magic via hand endeavor., and I was slightly disappointed to see the campaign sink.
The Hi-Fi Rush cancel was nothing short of criminal.
The game was so good on release I would place it amoung one of the best games of the last decade.
10:58 - Including Strider Hiryu! I love that character.
i remember one of the sims games i played had a simspeak line that sounded like "You gotta wobble it" cracks me up every time.
I never heard that CFAS was going to have an SNK guest character.
Also CFAS gave way to Capcom Fighting Evolution, which even included one of CFAS's original characters in Ingrid, but...that game was probably Capcom's worst fighting game since Street Fighter: The Movie.
Mike talking about Skullomania as an unacceptable drawback to SF-EX, as if Skullo isn't one of the most famously beloved cult classic fighting game characters of all time.
Please tell Jane two Spider-Mans is called Spider-Men, and more than two is called Spider-Many.
Coming right after the spiderman entry, that weird spandex skeleton just read to me like another spidersmans.
Also, he's now my favourite character.
A game I was excited about long ago was MegaMan Legends 3 😢
Oh, Mega Man. Still on the moon.
The night in the woods devs next game not coming out will be a great loss imo.
RIP to the Deus Ex series. Guess we'll never find out what Adam Jenson (or his clone) got up to 😢
Microsoft was the real villain all along
And Sony. And EA. And Ubisoft. And Konami. And Nintendo. And WB. And Activision. And Sqenix.
@@ChristophBrinkmann oh yeah those too
Great vid 🤩
Never before in my life had I seen footage of Street Fighter EX 3, but, holy shit, it looks like some sort of uncanny valley Soul Calibur.
I'm not sure what Mike thinks he's pointing to there on the end card, but it doesn't line up with what he's saying and, well, that suits me fine, haha! 🤣Always great stuff, guys! Rock on!
Epic Mickey 3 was planned and supposedly in development so much so that Epic Mickey 2 ends on a literal cliffhanger setting up the third game. Was gonna be more that just one co-op possibly 4 player and feature the Pete's as the new antagonists. But then the studio got shut down along with any hopes of a return to Epic Mickey being dashed. That is till recently with the whole Epic Mickey Rebrushed going on. Will this result in the third game? Maybe not but hey Epic Mickey is back and that's enough of a win for me.
Hi-Fi Rush 2 and The Evil Within 3 hurt the most... Tango was such a wonderful studio.
I would have liked the Spider-Man one but after kill the Justice League they probably saw their game as too similar and didn't want to put another out into the market to die.
I do wonder if they got spooked by Gotham Knights' relatively poor reception (I think SSKtJL is too late to be a factor?) or if it was just deemed too expensive or something.
@@chriswest6988 maybe but game companies keep making bad discussions without any real logic behind them. Like with skull and bones releasing right next to sea of thieves on PlayStation two very similar games but only one is clearly going to survive and it's sea of thieves with its art style that'll age better and all the years of content that was worked on for Xbox and PC players is available on PlayStation now. While skull and bones I think people are going to go back to playing black flag or sea of thieves over that game.
Something tells me that we may still get some form of multiverse content for Spiderman 2 from Insomniac. The hook for that content/game was with the bot collection and the scene with Lara Croft at the bar. The concept seemed pretty sound in all honesty.
I really hope that wherever Shinji has ended up, he makes The Evil Within 3 (even if it's not named that but is fundamentally that game)
Eternal Darkness 2 is the first that comes to mind. And the "Darkstalkers Return" teaser still hurts my heart.
Well, FIRST to mind is Drakan 3, but I don't think it was ever announced, but seriously, why has no one picked up that license?
I know it's old news at this point but all the news about the Silent Hill 2 remake - just makes me more salty about the whole P.T. situation
I wanted to know what happens to Joseph in The Evil Within 3, but now we will never know 😢
Not gonna lie, I misunderstood the title for a second there. I thought at the start it was a list about great games you'll likely never play again and was like, Deadpool. Unless you bought digitally it before or have a physical copy, you're basically SOL. If that's not already on a previous list on the channel (can't remember if you did that already) you should do That list next.
I’m not a fan of co-op games, but I remember when I read about Ninja Theory’s Razer, I became intrigued. At least its cancelation lead to Hellblade, but I always wonder what might have been.
Speaking as a Division fan, I am crushed that Heartland got cancelled. I played in all the betas, and it looked like it was going to be a lot of fun. :(
Insomniac planned to make the reskinned red batman as MP game too?
01:41 Jane: "assume direct control"- Harbinger, is that you?
I was so excited for redfall but didnt get it because it was so buggy, but arkane is the studio that really got me into gaming and made me want to get into games design!
I wanted to see if Silksong was on this list...
I think the general consensus on Silksong is "If we keep believing REALLY HARD, it'll come out eventually!" ...I know that's what I'm doing. I'm believing really, really hard.
Prey 2 breaks my heart. Such an incredible game.
Also Splinter Cell remake, too
i really enjoyed Redfall i played it after the patch and by myself it was a fun shooter! Plus im really sad the story wont be finished i found it to be super interesting.
No mention of Scalebound, that game being cancelled hurts my soul to this day. A game where you get to fight alongside a dragon with DMC combat, yes please.
Mike literally mentions Scalebound within the first 20 seconds of this video while talking about the first video they made about this topic.
You made the right decision, Andy. This world is bull💩
Quick! Need help to choose a game from steam summer sale to play with friends. Phasmaphobia? State of decay 2?
Was that the Sonic level select cheat at the start?
It's the "Konami Code". Originally a cheat for the NES version of Gradius, and later used as a cheat code in other games. I don't believe Sonic used it though.
@@gwishart Ah, it's been a while!
@@gwishart Well, it's _most_ of the Konami code, since it skipped the last two button presses.
It would have literally been spiderman: kill the justice league
Another video, another day I’m grateful that the Wolf Among us 2 hasn’t been scrapped
Capcom Fighting All-Stars did eventually become Capcom Fighting Evolution, but yeah, they stayed away from 3D games until (the utterly sublime) Street Fighter IV.
At the end, Mike talks about videos we’ll never get to see.
As someone who's having to completely shift career tracks after five years of working in the games industry, this video hurts my heart.
No Golden Sun mention? We were one game away from finishing the story!
I don't know about anyone else, but I've got the one about Weird/Worst Guns You Don't Want in Your Armory, and the one about Unbelievable/Suspiciously Easy Ways You Got Good Karma. Can't predict the algorithm, I guess.
I hate to say this but we'll probably never see a Deus Ex Mankind Divided sequel and a proper ending to Adam Jensen's story. Something I would've asked for...
Big same. Also a full remake of the original with modern mechanics and gameplay, plus fixing the many problems it had.

No, Jane, we are not.
Microshaft is so brainless, I have no idea what they were even thinking shutting down Tango. "Wow, look at how successful Hi-Fi Rush is! Let's shut it down."
At least I live in peace knowing no matter dumb I am I will never make a decision more idiotic than that.
Microsoft is a 3 trillion dollar company. Hi-Fi Rush made around 6 million. That's 0.0002% by comparison, hardly even a rounding error as far as Microsoft is concerned.
It's pretty clear that Bethesda, id and possibly Machine Games were all that Microsoft were really interested in, but were forced to buy all of Zenimax in order to aquire them. Now they're just divesting themselves of the unwanted studios that came included as part of that deal.
@@Okusar Any company with that level of cold, anti-consumer, anti-worker mentality is worth boycotting. Or better yet, passing labor-reform for gamedevs.

Capcom did have a brilliant 3d fighting franchise in Power Stone. Still hoping they'd make a remake of Power Stone 2.
Anyone remember the vampire / hunters mod on half life that stuff was dope
