  • Update Oct. 11, 2016: Samsung has officially discontinued the Galaxy Note 7 due to concerns about battery fires. We assume the company believed that after 2 recalls, trust and interest in the phone would be greatly diminished. RIP Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
    Lisa Gade reviews the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Samsung’s flagship for 2016 that replaces the Galaxy Note 5 (there is no Note 6!).
    ** Read our full written review here: www.mobiletechreview.com/phone...
    The Note 7 has a 5.7” Super AMOLED 2560 x 1440 display that supports touch and the included S Pen (Wacom EMR active digitizer) with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. The display’s sides are curved and the phone is made of Gorilla Glass 5 and metal. Like recent competing high end Android smartphones, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad core CPU with Adreno 530 graphics. It has 4 gigs of RAM and 64 gigs of internal storage plus a microSD card slot compatible with cards up to 256 gigs.
    The phone has myriad features including IP68 water resistance, both a fingerprint and iris scanner, LTE 4G, WiFi calling, VoLTE, NFC, fast charging over USB-C and fast wireless charging. It has the same excellent cameras as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge: 12MP rear with 4K video recording and a front 5MP camera. This Android 6 Marshmallow phone with a much improved TouchWiz UI lists for $879 in the US and it’s available in silver, black, coral blue (gold available outside the US in some countries).
    ** Shorty after launch, the Note 7 faced a recall due to concerns about the battery igniting (some batteries were defective). Samsung is now shipping what are supposed to be safe units and are replacing phones from the suspect batch via recall.

    Great review! You hit on most of the major reasons for picking up this phone. Well done again Lisa! One of my favorites functions (though if mentioned I missed it...sorry) is the secured folder option. I definitely think that all high end phones should have this ability and that it truly is an extremely underrated feature. Samsung went yard with this phone.

    Just a quick note about the pen going in one way, if the pen is inserted with the top of the pen in first, this is where the problem is, not which side of the pen goes in facing up.

    Lovely review! :) My dad just got the S7 Note and I have the S7 edge. Its amazing that its only negligibly wider than the S7 edge. Love the 64gb storage and the pen, but otherwise its not really so different from the S7 edge. I like the small refinements they made on the UI to make it more simpler tho. I hope to see those same refinements on the S7 edge as an update.

    Great excellent review!! Got one on Friday! I am loving it! Have you ever done a review on the ZTE Axon 7 or ZTE OnePlus 3? I hear and see they are good phones if you are on a budget. They don't have the same "bells and whistles" you have on the Note 7, that's the trade off for 1/2 the price.

    Good review, the note 7 is an awesome phone. So far the battery has been on par with the S7edge, which is a good thing. My two biggest complaints is action memo being gone from Samsung Notes and that the secure folder still requires a password the first time it is open after the phone is rebooted.
    Again, good review, it flowed well, some reviewers I can't stand to listen to for very long.

    Been using my Onyx Note 7 for a few days now and couldn't be happier. A few adjustments after using a Nexus 6p for the last year but this phone just does SO much more and is equally fast.
    Debloating didn't seem to make any difference in speed but freed up about 500 mb ram at startup and added about an hour (estimate from the battery screen) of phone life per battery charge.
    With Nova prime and the icons I've been using on my 6P (Switch UI pack), this thing is FAST and extremely minimal touch wiz.

    • @Alpha0YZ
      @Alpha0YZ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, can I ask you some questions about the Note 7? do the s-pen features work even with an alternative launcher like Nova? And how is the screen? I'm a little bit upset about the scratch test in the JerryRigEverything video...

    • @FastRedPonyCar
      @FastRedPonyCar 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the S-Pen and edge both operate independently from the launcher itself.
      Screen is great. Best phone screen on the market. The outside daylight visibility of the screen is astonishing. My Nexus 6P at full brightness by comparison is hard to tell if the screen is even on and the Note 7 screen is like looking at a printed piece of paper. It's incredible.
      Whether or not the screen can actually get scratched as easily as JRE's video would like for you to believe, that's still up for debated but last night, a knife slipped off my dinner plate onto the screen and did nothing.

    • @Alpha0YZ
      @Alpha0YZ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +culeforlife depends what you compare with. A 80$ android will always be inferior to a 800$ iPhone. But what do you get from this phone at this price point. You get 64gb Internal memory, you can expand it to 256gb with SD card, it's waterproof, it has a 2k super oled screen. And the size of the phone is smaller then the iPhone 6s plus, and that phone has a smaller screen.
      And you get all other gimicks without lag.

    Excellent review. Unfortunately my cell provider in Canada wanted 700$ tax in so is a pass. I got instead the Nexus 6P for 0$ and is awesome super fast. Software is better speakers too and the fingertouch works 100%. I cant wait for next year though to see the Galaxy X and the new S Note series with 4K displays and 6 gigs of Ram. To me is important because I am in to VR.

    Need some advice from a pro Videojournalist / MOJO perspective on buying my next phone for pro cellphone videojournalism purposes keeping budget in mind, please. I am not brand or OS loyal. In fact I currently have a Mac Notebook and a Note4 and is happy with both. However, although Note 4 can't handle all apps in full ex Filmic Pro as well as some hardware like mics. Note7 looks like a cool phone and app and hardware tech seems to be generally compatible and available for both iOS and Android nowadays. But being budget sensitive, I am considering waiting for the iPhone 7 so I can get the iPhone 6s Plus 128Gb at a lower price to be my main filming device. Would this be a wise thing to do?

    hey Lisa great review as always but i do have a few questions about the note 7.
    1st. Is it true that there is an option to change the resolution of the superamoled display?? that would help with battery life right? 2nd. i was told that the blue coral has gold accents.is that true? i cant see it in the video. 3rd.. does the USB-C charge the battery faster than samsung quick charge 2.0? Does that mean it has Qualcomm quick charge 3.0 or does it still uses Samsung quick charge 2.0 technology? and lastly, i saw online that the note7 has the newest MIMO technology. What does that mean?
