  • Got inspired to try and piece together a new rig from what I have laying around. No direction, no real plan, the rat-king sling is born. A Ratrod Mud Truck? Maybe, lol.

    This has great potential. I'm thinking you want the rear suspension to be a little loose to let some weight transfer but not totally unload the front axle. If you don't already have softer springs laying around then try it like it is and decide if you need to make a change.

    I know this was a year ago.....but I've been using those same axles for a minute, front axles can't handle the juice. The 10.2 joint axles can fit, had to ditch the outermost bearing in the axle tube(u joint center line is off) but even though the geometry didn't turn out perfect, it has withstood a real beating, and a bunch of miles out in the woods. Even with a brushless setup

  • @backcountryrc1

    an idea for ya because you like rat rods is to grab a lesu 2x4/4x4 transfer case for the 1/14 tamiya tucks ( they share the same size shaft ) this would give twd to mess around with in lite mud 4wd for the deeper stuff.

    Keep going with it that looks bad@$$ rear steer is pretty common on the real mud trucks lots of power and torque, wheelies and what not. But looks better than the cookie cut trucks everyone are proud of paying too much lol. But have at it and play around with it, it looks awesome effin mint

  • @OldIronRC
    @OldIronRC 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's nice to see a crusty back on the bench Josh. Not sure if it will give you any more room, but some mud trucks have the motor at the back facing backwards. Maybe there is a way of putting that on the back as an exposed engine block, scale interior and hide electrics under a rusty tin hood?

  • @BlueDually4x4

  • @gregkeezee5969

    You going to have too run a panhard or do a axel mounted servo...I'll tell you why when you go to steer the truck the hole front is going to shift the servo arm will make it do that.. I spotted it when you had the truck flipped over messing with the servo... just thought I would help had the same problem when I done a chassis mounted servo on a scx10 one without a panhard it won't work

  • @BrentTheGent1

    I was waiting for you to mention the front CVD axle joints that bust too easy,,, i ordered 10 packs of spare axles though haha and have just put them onto a tube chassis crawler i have built, i did buy the tube chassis but it has come together good and so far its just the weather thats stopping me from enjoying it.

    I like where this build could go, put a diesel style engine or maybe a V8 put a transmission in that has dig to turn in the mud or maybe a two speed, it needs a fast motor in it, I like builds that come from parts two of my HPI Baja's started as a couple of box's of parts and a couple of bits I had to buy but they are my favorites out of all eight of my petrol 5th scale truck's and buggies.

    Killer lookin mud truck. Have you ever had luck finding semi cabs? And do you fab the Ford bodies yourself or is there a good company you use for your stuff?

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only semi cabs out there are the tamiya 1/14 scale ones. A little smaller than what I use. Bodies like this are 3dprinted. There are a ton of designs out there hiding in print file websites and 3d enthusiasts pages.

    How you can set servo on chassis and no panhard without having any bump steer while the shock compressed?

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has to sit as low as possible. If you can keep the steering link as horizontal to the ground at ride height the bump steer will be minimal to none. Without a panhard the 4 link has to be triangulated to prevent shifting side to side.
