Pretty sure the little doctor's knife is a newer version of what in Denmark, was called a "grisekniv" which translates into pig-knife.
They were small knives with black bakelite handle scales, and a carbon steel blade, they were called pig-knives because farmers used them to castrate piglets, before scalpels became a cheaper alternative.
You got a nicer one than me, even though mine is still nice! I like these little knives a lot! The wooden one is great!

These knives were actually meant as little scalpels for farmers and vets for castrating, like Christian Marcher said, and for cutting into ears and removing splinters or parasites form the animal, and cleaning wounds. So they have thin sharp, stainless steel blades with the fingerrest for more precision. They're not meant for cutting wood or any hard labor. They're neat little things.

This thing does look a lot like a scalpel, I really like it and will have to think about getting one.
A real sweet knife
I believe these were originally used for castrating animals, which is where the name comes from. A folding scalpel essentially. Easy to carry in the countryside, easy to keep sharp.
I wonder if it's the earlierst example of a folding knife with a pronounced finger choil.
Good looking little work knife, whatever it is called.
