But you demonstrate in your video, that your knife ist not sharp after the sharpening process. You must visibly exert a lot of pressure on the tomato before the knife cuts in. This is anything but razor sharp.
By the way, since when do we have to put pressure to cut a tomato. Just lateral movement is required if the knife has any kind of sharpness ! And he also cuts the tomato the wrong way (tomato standing up !). We all know a tomato should be sliced while laying it on its side !
A) the steel of the bolt and nuts is way too soft to sharpen any knife steel. As you can see, the tomato still gets squished during cutting even after "sharpening" B) it is pretty dangerous to repurpose a power drill like this C) putting all the parts together takes much longer than using a measly 5-bucks drag-though sharpener that also will get you a better result. D) The botton-of-a-ceramic-cup-hack does work as the material is basically the same as that of a whetstone E) it works even better when you don't drag the blade in a radial motion (blade tip pointing towards the center of the cup) as shown here, but perpendicular to the coarse rim of the cup. F) While the ceramic part of the spark plug works as an abrasive, this method is a waste of time, effort and material.
100%, just buy a ceramic rod to hone the edge or a basic 20• carbide pocket sharpener. Hell; the edge of your car/truck window glass will hone the edge like a ceramic rod will. I used to put the finishing touch on my knives using the top edge of my truck window. Yes, it works. Just roll the window down to a comfortable height and work the knife edge across the top edge of the window, 10 strokes on one side before switching to the other side for 10 strokes. This helps maintain the same angle for each stroke. Do this until the desired sharpness is achieved. 1 or 2 minutes of that, done correctly, and it'll shave your hair.
I sharpen my knives at home....when i go to the woods.....i use the bottom of my ceramic coffee mug, have been doing that for years.....works for me......best of all the coffee mug is never forgotten......
If you cut out the ceramic part of a spark plug you are left with a tool that is useful for engine mechanics to find a cylinder's compression stroke . If the metal remains of the spark plug are screwed into an engine cylinder and a balloon is attached to where the ceramic fitted and the engine crank is slowly revolved the balloon will inflate . This will show the compression stroke , but not top dead centre ; it saves removing the valve covers to check for the compression stroke . It might also act as a rough guide to compression differences between cylinders , but that might be pushing the technique a bit far , I am not too sure ! Nothing to do with knife sharpening , but we are here to learn !
Except most people, including myself have difficulty with the right angle on both edges. While I can sharpen a plane blade extremely well, knives however need both edges sharp. I can get the somewhat, but not as sharp as they need to be.
@dj3114 put your stone on the coffee table and bend at the waist with your arms straight now your angle won't change. all the motion should come from the shoulder. Not the elbow
Depends on the hardness of the steel and the ceramic type of the mug. With very hard knife steel above 62 HRC, some ceramics are too soft. Then it needs diamond coated grinding surfaces.

That's awesome to hear! 😊 Let me know how it goes with the spark plug technique for glass cutting!
Or how about you just buy a knife sharpener!
Why buy a sharpener when you can get a razor-sharp edge with a spark plug? 😉🔪
@@CreativeHacker7because I actually get a razor sharp edge with a bench stone.
Went from plain Dull, to just Dull look at that…
Looks like you need a sharper eye to see the real magic happening 🔪✨.
The blades of a commercial jet engine (doesn't matter what model!) are really movin'. You get your dull knife blade up there and let it rub against them for a few seconds...blam....sharp! That's airline metal!
That's a creative technique! ✈️ Just be careful with those sharp knives! 🔪
You're sure squashing it definitely not very sharp.
Thanks for the feedback! Sharpening technique might not be for everyone, but it gets the job done 💪🔪.
